Definitions

  • the invention relates to a means for improving the dampening of offset printing forms.
  • DE-OS-2 625 604 describes dampening solutions based on acidic alcohol / water solutions with mono- and polyvalent low-alkyl alcohols and glycol ethers with molecular weights of 170 or less, in which no more than four successive carbon atoms should be present.
  • These fountain solutions contain polyacrylamides, acids and their salts, optionally together with hydroxymethylcellulose, in an amount of 0.001 to 5% by weight.
  • Metal nitrates and organic chelating agents are also added.
  • the dampening solution additives consist of silicon dioxide or mixed oxides, with polyhydric alcohols and citrate buffers optionally being added. No further details are given on the type and mode of action of the polyhydric alcohols.
  • the product should also be biodegradable.
  • H. Collagen that is not cross-linked or denatured by aging or other treatment is known and has the following properties:
  • the a chain consists of two subunits a 1 and a 2 , each of which has a molecular weight of approximately 100,000 and differ slightly from one another in the type of the amino acids forming them.
  • the ⁇ chain consists of two subunits: ⁇ 11 , which consists of two Subunits a 1 is constructed, and ⁇ 12 , which consists of a subunit a 1 and a subunit a 2.
  • the two subunits ⁇ 11 and ß 12 have a molecular weight of approximately 200,000.
  • each helix is a straight-chain polypeptide chain, which is referred to as a telopeptide, with a length of approximately 5 nm.
  • a collagen can be obtained, for example, from supporting and connective tissues of the tendons, ligaments, cartilage and proteinaceous bone substance and the skin of, in particular, young animals, for example calves , can be obtained by extraction with weakly acidic aqueous solution.
  • Native, soluble elastin is a non-cross-linked fiber protein that is closely related to collagen and the main component of the elastic fibers in the tendons.
  • hydrolysates of native collagen and / or of native elastin surprisingly proved to be the solution to all of the above-mentioned difficulties which arise with the previously known water-soluble polymers occurred.
  • Extensive printing tests and measurements of surface tensions have shown that these hydrolysates are equally well adsorptively bound to the non-printing surfaces of the offset printing form and to the printing blanket and ensure an excellent, permanent hydrophilizing effect of the dampening solution.
  • these polymers are absolutely non-toxic. They can be produced by known methods, for example enzymatically.
  • the deamidation of the collagen molecule is expediently carried out by the action of alkalis or acids. It is based on an ammonia elimination from glutamine and asparagine with conversion into the corresponding acids:
  • the collagen molecule Apart from deamidation, the collagen molecule must therefore retain all the other properties of the soluble collagen.
  • the dampening solution is preferably adsorbed on the surface areas on which dampening solution was already present. This behavior is advantageous if the amount of dampening solution added is subject to certain fluctuations during the printing process (interruption of the printing process), so that the hydrophilic surfaces can be temporarily undersupplied in this regard.
  • the proposed dampening solution contains 0.01 to 3% by weight of organic polymers, based on the total weight of the solution, under conditions of use. Higher concentrations can lead to undesirable gel formation on the printing surface, smaller amounts no longer show a sufficient hydrophobing effect. At least the collagen and / or elastin hydrolyzates as active ingredients must be included.
  • the pH of the dampening solution according to the invention is between 4.5 and 5.5. If it is smaller, the printing plate will be perfectly clean; however, it can be chemically attacked and the paper and ink can be adversely affected. The drying of the ink is also delayed. When the pH is above 7, the binder in the printing ink is usually saponified.
  • buffers known per se such as e.g. Sodium citrate / citric acid or starch citrates have been found to be suitable.
  • the setting and stabilization of the optimal surface energy of the dampening solution i.e. its ability to produce a thin, stable and uniform film on the hydrophilic surfaces of the printing form, is preferably carried out according to the present invention by adding non-polymeric alcohols and / or alkane diols with OH groups in ( 1,2) or (1,3) position, the chain length n of which, based on the C atoms, is n,> 6, concentrations of 0.05 to 1.0% by weight being the most advantageous. These substances also act as defoamers in the specified proportions.
  • Polymers or short-chain alcohols do not show this combination of effects, or, as in the case of isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, amounts of 8-15% are required in order to set the same surface energies as above.
  • the values of the polar components of the specific free surface energy are not at all achieved with these latter alcohols.
  • the alcohols according to the invention have no toxic effects in the amounts stated, especially since they become volatile even under the conditions of use of the printing process.
  • the dampening solution according to the invention small amounts of known organic complexing agents, for. B. ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) or hydroxyethylenediaminetriacetic acid (HEDTA).
  • EDTA ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid
  • DTPA diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid
  • HEDTA hydroxyethylenediaminetriacetic acid
  • the pH values of the dampening solution according to the invention can therefore be individually adjusted without further ado. Nevertheless, any interruption in the printing process does not lead to a deterioration in the dampening film, which is usually the case when using conventional dampening solutions.
  • the amount of waste when starting up the printing unit is therefore minimal; in the best case it can even be printed without rejects.
