Definitions
- the invention relates to a mortar ammunition with an explosive-filled projectile jacket which tapers in a front part, on the outer circumference of which preformed projectiles, preferably balls and inserts forming several projectiles, are arranged distributed over the circumference and length.
- a multi-purpose warhead of a missile is known from EP-A-0 159 389 (a document according to Article 54 (3) EPC). This has explosive-accelerable balls in a rear section and explosive inserts to form projectiles in the front section arranged on the circumference. Such a multi-purpose warhead is too expensive for mortar ammunition to combat lightly armored targets due to the special design measures to be provided.
- this object is achieved in that the preformed projectiles are mounted in a rear part of the projectile jacket and the inserts forming projectiles during the detonation of the explosive are evenly distributed on the front part over the circumference and length of the front part on circumferential lines of the projectile jacket .
- the projectiles formed during the detonation act at high speed and thus high penetration.
- the preformed projectiles work in a scattering area with a high scatter density.
- the mass of each of the charges forming a projectile when the explosive is detonated is greater than the mass of one of the preformed fragments. This increases the penetration rate.
- the projectile jacket 1 has a front part 7 tapering towards the front. This is provided with openings 8. Seen from the outside, concave, dome-shaped inserts 9 are inserted into these. Each insert 9 is a projectile-forming body, for example made of copper. The surface of the additionally introduced body 10, which consists of foam or fire mass, is flush with the surface of the front part 7.
- the projectile-forming bodies 9 are evenly distributed on four circumferential lines 11, 12, 13 and 14.
- the projectile-forming bodies 9 of the individual circumferential lines are offset from one another (cf. FIG. 1).
- each body 9 is significantly larger than the mass of one of the steel balls 5 (see FIG. 1).
- the volume of one of the bodies 9 is approximately twenty to forty times that of the steel balls 5.
- the deposits form 9 projectiles.
- the bodies 9 take on a projectile shape. They are accelerated to a very high initial speed of around 2000 to 2500 m / s. These projectiles have a penetration performance that is at least sufficient for lightly armored targets.
- the steel balls 5 are accelerated when the explosive 2 is ignited. Their penetration rate is lower than that of the projectiles formed from the bodies 9. Their scatter density is much greater than that of the projectiles.

Description
- Fig. 1
Fig. 1).
Fig. 1).
