Definitions

  • the present invention relates to washing and cleaning linen in a washing machine, a liquid detergent being gradually introduced into the washing medium from a refillable device placed in the drum of the machine with the linen to be washed.
  • Liquid detergent compositions for washing clothes are on the market. They have various advantageous properties compared to the numerous granular detergent compositions, but their use has not spread as far as one might have thought given their qualities, due to a certain unsuitability for use in the most of the washing machines currently on the market.
  • the dispensers for the dose of detergent agent used in each washing cycle are, in general, ill-suited to the collection of agents liquids and their subsequent dispersion in the washing bath; most of the machines currently used by housewives were in fact designed when there were only powder or granular detergents on the market.
  • the Applicant has found that, frequently, part of the liquid detergent composition placed in the machine's dispenser, before starting it up, was unusable for washing.
  • the detergent is completely entrained with the first ml of water introduced into the machine, and these, in most cases, will go directly to fill the drain circuits of the machine in which the operation of previous wash had left very little water.
  • the detergent When the detergent has entered this circuit, it will practically no longer migrate towards the washing bath impregnating the laundry. whether during the filling of the machine, or during the actual washing, and it will be eliminated with the first emptying.
  • the losses that is to say the unused washing product, can be significant, particularly in certain types of washing machines where a non-negligible proportion of the liquid composition put in the dispenser intended for a solid washing product, will not be not used.
  • the level of loss depends in particular on the volume of the drainage circuit before the pump, the speed of arrival of water, the position of the water entry point.
  • the present invention which eliminates these unavoidable losses, is particularly useful.
  • US Pat. No. 3,108,722 describes a device intended to contain a liquid softener and to diffuse it into the laundry during the final rinsing, at the end of the washing cycle. Once filled with the desired amount of fabric softener, the device is closed and placed with the laundry in the drum of the washing machine. The device then has no opening allowing the diffusion of the liquid softener. During all the first phases of the cycle, which correspond to the actual washing of the laundry, the device remains closed, moving freely inside the machine. During spinning at high speed, the device is pressed against the walls of the drum and, thanks to the presence of a ventilation system sensitive to the action of centrifugal force, at least one opening is unmasked.
  • US-A-4,014,105 proposes to solve the same problem, that is to say that of packaging, with a liquid product, laundry already washed. It exposes by criticizing them, the drawbacks of the known solutions, which consist in adding the softener, or other conditioning agent, in the final rinsing cycle of the washing machine, and it proposes a different technique, according to which one makes diffuse the conditioning liquid in a drying drum, where the laundry is already washed.
  • the technique taught by patent US-A-4,014,105 consists in using a dryer and a diffuser device having permanent openings and which can move freely inside the dryer. The conditioning agent, such as the softener, gradually diffuses to settle on the laundry. At the end of the operation, the dry and softened linen is collected.
  • Patent US-A-4,014,105 therefore describes only a process for conditioning in a dryer the laundry already washed, so as to avoid the addition of softener in the washing machine, in particular during the final rinsing of the washing cycle. .
  • the invention relates to washing and cleaning the laundry in a washing machine of a common type with a detergent in liquid form, whose viscosity is such that it can flow freely, even at room temperature.
  • said agent is gradually released into the washing bath from a device placed in the drum of the machine with the laundry to be washed, instead of being introduced from the dispenser provided by the manufacturer of the washing machine to receive the washing product.
  • the object of the invention is defined in claim 1.
  • a predetermined quantity is poured into a suitable device - depending in particular on the quantity of the laundry to be washed and the degree of soiling of the capacity of the machine - of a cleaning agent. liquid detergency, the device is then placed in the drum of the machine with the washing machine, then the normal washing cycle of the machine is started and allowed to run, the device containing the washing product being preferably placed towards the top of the tank, in the drum.
  • the drum does not rotate until the filling of the tub is completed, the device will not begin to empty until there is a sufficient amount of water to avoid the prolonged contact of dry or just damp laundry with concentrated detergent.
  • the device at the bottom of the drum, in particular in the case where the latter enters in rotation from the start of the admission of water, or even in the middle of the laundry.
  • the housewife will easily choose the position best suited to the particular circumstances of her washing.
  • the device is taken out of the washing machine with the clean linen and set aside for later use.
  • This device comprises at least one filling orifice, of sufficient dimensions so that the introduction of the washing agent is easy whatever the viscosity and the shape of the mouth of the container which contained the agent.
  • This orifice is provided with suitable closing means which may be mobile, integral or not with the body of the device, such as capsule and other plugs or permanently, such as the chimneys fixed around the neck of the orifice and entering the device whose length and diameter at the internal end are such that a liquid having penetrated into the device practically does not come out of it. It is understood that, in the latter case, the filling orifice can be confused with one of the liquid vents, with which the device must be provided.
  • the number and shape of these liquid vents are not critical; you can have a single vent, two to ten or a multitude of very small vents, up to about 100; devices with two to four vents are preferred, through which the liquid will be gradually released.
  • the diameter of the vents is generally between 2 mm and 10 mm for devices comprising from 2 to 8.
  • vents for the liquid not being generally provided with closing systems must be located above the maximum level of filling of the device; their respective positions can be any, however.
  • Those skilled in the art will be able to determine, by routine tests, the number of these vents, according to their shape, their position and the viscosity of the liquid washing agent used, so that the all of said agent is poured into the washing bath in approximately 1 to 10 minutes, preferably in approximately 3 minutes. It must obviously be taken into account that, for the same device filled with a given washing agent, the emptying time will depend on the diameter of the drum of the machine in which it will be used, its rate of rotation, and even the rate filling the drum with laundry.
  • the device can be made of various materials, which must be unbreakable and resist up to a temperature of approximately 100 ° C.
  • Many synthetic polymers will be suitable, for example low density polyethylene, polypropylene or other elastomers.
  • the walls of the device can be made of a transparent material, or will have a transparent window so that the housewife can see the level reached by the liquid in the device during the filling operation, to avoid any untimely overflow.
  • the device may carry marks, indicating the volume of liquid introduced when the mark is reached; the same device can then be used for washing machines of different capacities, or will make it possible to adapt the quantity of washing agent to the operation to be carried out.
  • the device moreover, has a non-rough exterior surface and does not have sharp angles, to eliminate any risk of premature wear of the laundry by friction: its walls are relatively rigid, however, so that the handling of the filled device does not is not made difficult by their deformation resulting from the pressure exerted by the fingers which grip it.
  • the device may have a sufficiently large base so that it is perfectly stable and that an awkward gesture, in particular during filling with the washing agent, does not cause it to overturn.
  • Means for fixing the device to the machine drum such as suction cups or hooks are provided in a variant of the device of the invention. They limit the noise due to the rolling of the device in the drum during the washing cycle and its friction on the laundry during spinning, the device is, in any case, pressed against the walls of the drum with the laundry.
  • the device described above is filled with a liquid detergent of viscosity generally between 0.1 and 0.4 Pas.
  • a liquid detergent of viscosity generally between 0.1 and 0.4 Pas.
  • liquid detergent compositions used in the invention may, in addition, contain optical brighteners, perfumes, dyes, opacifiers, antioxidants. load bactericidal agents and the like.
  • the surfactants present in the compositions used in the invention can be anionic, nonionic, ampholyte or zwitterionic, their mixtures can also be used. Examples of these surfactants are cited in patent application EP-A-0 028 865; a cationic surfactant can also be added to it, as in this patent application, page 5, line 32 to page 7, line 21.
  • the amount of surfactant present in the liquid compositions is generally between 5% and 70% by weight of the whole, and it is generally a function of the presence or absence of detergency builders; it is lower in the presence of these.
  • the well-known adjuvants mention will be made of the alkaline salts of phosphates and polyphosphates of nitrilotriacetic acid, of citric acid or also of synthetic zeolites.
  • the liquid vehicle of the composition can be water, an organic solvent such as aliphatic mono and polyalcohols having up to 6 carbon atoms and their ethers or their mixtures.
  • sequestering agents such as polyacrylates, polymaleates and copolymers of unsaturated acids and methyl vinyl ether, but also soil suspending agents.
  • soil suspending agents such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone and sodium carboxymethylcellulose.
  • hydrotropes such as salts of alkyl aryl sulfonic acids and foam regulators such as C16 to C22 fatty acids, and polysiloxanes. All these compounds can be introduced into liquid washing compositions which can be used in the invention, in variable amounts. well known to the specialist.
  • Polydialkylsiloxanes can also be introduced into the liquid washing compositions for their softening properties.
  • the amount of liquid washing agent used obviously depends on the composition of the agent, the nature and condition of the laundry to be washed and the capacity of the washing machine.
  • the devices according to the invention may contain from 100 to 400 ml of liquid approximately and their total internal volume will be from approximately 150 ml to approximately 500 ml, but it is perfectly possible to design smaller devices for very effective washing agents, or larger devices for washing machines in use in communities.
  • the device of Figure 1 has a maximum diameter of 105 mm and a height of 65 mm without the screw cap.
  • the assembly 1 is made of transparent polyethylene.
  • the walls are 0.6 mm thick.
  • the diameter of the filling orifice 2 is 40 mm and that of the two vents for the liquid 3 is 5 mm; these are located 45 mm from the bottom of the container (distance measured on a vertical).
  • On the body of the device there are two level 4 markers corresponding respectively to the 130 ml and 180 ml volumes. Around the neck of the device can possibly be tightened a metal wire ending in hooks which can adapt to the holes made on the surface of the drums.
  • the device of FIG. 2 is a hollowed-out sphere 80 mm in diameter, truncated so that the container rests on a flat bottom and whose lid 1 with hinge 2, lockable. has the shape of a spherical cap adapting to the shape of the sphere and to the orifice 3 for introducing the liquid which has been formed by a cut along a plane.
  • the opaque polypropylene device has a transparent window 4, where two volume marks are drawn 5. The vents for the liquid 6, three in number, are located above the upper filling level.
  • the device of FIG. 3 is a hollowed out crown 6 cm in outside diameter and 3 cm in inside diameter, in which a circular hole of 2 cm has been made, to serve as a filling orifice 1.
  • This orifice 1 is provided with 'a hinged cover 2 and a locking device 4.
  • Four orifices 3 mm in diameter are provided in the upper part of the crown.
  • the device of the invention shown in FIG. 1 with 220 ml of a liquid washing agent consisting of:
  • the filled device is placed in a commercial washing machine with horizontal loading, above the laundry to be washed and the washing and spinning cycle is allowed to proceed normally. At the end of the operation, the laundry and the device are removed from the machine.
  • the latter contains only a few drops of water and can be stored for later use.
  • 3.2 kg of laundry are introduced into a BRANDT top-loading washing machine with a capacity of 5 kg, the drum of which is rotated during the filling of the tank with water.
  • a device according to FIG. 1 is placed on the linen, filled with 180 ml of a liquid washing agent, with a viscosity of 0.12 PaS. It is noted that all the washing agent passes into the washing bath in 1 min 30, after the rotation of the drum while the complete cycle of the machine lasts approximately 50 min.
  • Washing is carried out under the same conditions as in Example 2 but with a PHILIPS brand washing machine, the device then releases the washing agent in 3 minutes.
