Definitions

  • the invention relates to an electric cigar lighter for motor vehicles, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
  • Such a cigar lighter is known from US-A-27 90 061.
  • a switch can be actuated via a lockable knee joint connection, the locking of the knee joint being unlockable by means of a bimetallic element, so that the switching contact is interrupted when unlocking.
  • the bimetallic element engages after a certain deformation, which corresponds to a certain temperature, in the area of the articulation, so that the two legs of the knee joint are arranged at an angle to one another by the action of a spring and the switching contact is thereby interrupted.
  • a cigar lighter is also known from FR-A-14 77 588, in which an ignition module with a contact element is held on a mating contact by means of an electromagnet.
  • the circuit of the electromagnet can be interrupted by means of a bimetal element, whereby the contact is interrupted by means of a spring and the ignition module springs back into its starting position.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of proposing a simple and functionally designed cigar lighter in which, after the ignition insert or the ignition module has been pressed into the metal socket fastened to the vehicle, the heating disk resistor is heated up very quickly to the temperature required for lighting a cigarette, without that the user must release the control button for the duration of a waiting period. It is less dangerous for a driver to hold the steering wheel with one hand and press the control button with the other hand for two or three seconds than to be mentally distracted for a longer period of time and with one hand the control button of the To operate the cigar lighter, the first time to push in the control button and the second time to remove the ignition insert.
  • the ohmic resistance of the heating disc resistance must be quite low. Compared to conventional cigar lighters, this leads to a higher current consumption (of the order of 25 to 30 amperes), but this takes place only for a relatively very short time.
  • the bimetal contact element only has the task of protecting the cigar lighter from overheating, which would inevitably lead to the destruction of the heating disc resistance within a few seconds if the user depressed the control button too long.
  • the elastic, arranged between the bimetallic element and the contact cap element of the cigar lighter according to the invention prevents damage or destruction of the contact cap by the electric arc, which inevitably arises when the current of the cigar lighter according to the invention is high when the contacts are opened.
  • the energy consumption of the igniter according to the invention is low compared to known devices of this type.
  • the current consumption of 25 to 30 amperes is limited to a duration of approximately two seconds, so that the energy requirement for each ignition process is approximately 50 to 60 ampere seconds is, while a conventional lighter with a bimetallic contact terminal requires an energy of the order of 120 ampere-seconds for each ignition process.
  • the cigar lighter in the embodiment of the invention shown here has a metal bushing 10 with a substantially cylindrical side wall 12 and a bottom wall 14.
  • the metal bushing 10 can be attached in a known manner (not shown) attach it to a dashboard or other supporting part of a vehicle.
  • a circumferential flange 16 serves as a stop at the installation site.
  • a pull-out ignition insert or an ignition assembly 18 is inserted into the metal bushing 10.
  • This assembly 18 consists of a metal sleeve 20 which is slidably inserted into the socket 10.
  • a small metal cup 22 with a bottom wall 24 is slidably inserted in the sleeve 20.
  • a small metal spindle 26 which has a shaft 28 which extends through a central bore 30 in the bottom wall 24.
  • a metal contact cap 34 is attached to this shaft 28 and has a converging outer edge 36 toward the inside.
  • a heat-insulating washer 32 is inserted between the contact cap 34 and the bottom wall 24 of the cup 22.
  • An electrical resistance element 38 which is formed in a known manner from a flat wire bent into a spiral, is held in the contact cap 34 in an electrically insulated manner.
  • the middle end of the resistance element 38 is electrically connected to the shaft 28, which fixes this element in a slot 40 inserted into the shaft, while the outer end of the resistance element 38 is electrically connected to the contact cap 34.
  • the edge 36 of the contact cap 34 projects forward relative to the resistance element 38.
  • the metal spindle 26 has a section provided with a thread 42, onto which a hub 44 of an operating button 46 made of insulating plastic is screwed.
  • the control button 46 has an outer casing 48 which, together with the hub 44, forms a ring groove.
  • the metal sleeve 20 has a part 50 with an enlarged diameter, which is surrounded by the jacket 48. Between the part of the sleeve 20 inserted into the socket 10 and the widened part 50, a radial wall part 52 is formed which serves as an intercepting shoulder for one end of a helical spring 54, the other end of which rests against the bottom of the ring groove of the operating button 46.
  • the displaceable part which essentially consists of the spindle 26, the contact cap 34 with the inserted resistance element 38 and the operating button 46, is pressed back into the rest position shown in FIG. 1 by the spring 54, in which when the metal sleeve 20 is inserted into the socket 10, the contact cap 34 assumes a retracted position in the sleeve, see FIG. 1.
  • the plate 56 is attached to the wall 14 by means of two fastening elements 58, see FIG. 2, which are worked out of this wall by punching and bending.
  • the plate 56 has a bore 60 into which a tubular extension 62, also machined out of the bottom wall 14, engages for centering.
  • a contact lug or a contact plate 66 for the electrical connection to the outside and one end of a strip or plate-shaped bimetallic contact element 70 are fastened between the attachment 64 and the body 68.
  • an elastic element 72 here an elastic metal strip or metal plate, lies against that surface of the body 68 which lies opposite the surface directed towards the extension 64.
  • the package consisting of the shoulder 64, the body 68, the contact element 70, the contact plate 66 and the elastic element 72 is held together by a hollow rivet 74.
  • the two elements 70 and 72 lie transversely or diametrically and one behind the other in a bottom part of the metal bushing 10, which is provided with opposite ventilation openings 76 and 78.
  • the bimetal contact element 70 is electrically connected to the connection plate 66.
  • the elastic element 72 is electrically connected to the rivet 74, but is insulated both from the socket 10 and, in the rest position, from the bimetal contact element 70.
  • the two strip-shaped or plate-shaped elements 70 and 72 carry corresponding, mutually facing contact pieces 80 and 82 at their free ends lying in the opening 76.
  • the bimetal contact element 70 is deformable under the action of heat and then bends to the bottom wall 14 hon or to the right in FIGS. 1 and 3.
  • the movable member comprising the contact cap 34 is in a retracted position with respect to the elastic member 72 by the action of the spring 54.
  • the operating button 46 is pressed, whereby the movable part and the contact cap 34 are moved forward against the force of the spring 54, that is to the right in FIGS. 1 and 3.
  • the contact cap 34 thereby emerges from the metal sleeve 20.
  • the protruding outer edge 36 of the contact cap 34 comes into contact with the elastic element 72 and bends it to the right — with reference to FIGS. 1 and 3 — until the contact piece 82 of this element comes into contact with the contact piece 80 of the bimetal contact element 70 as shown by the solid lines in FIG. 3.
  • the elastic element 72 takes over the function of an electrical interconnection element between the bimetallic contact element 70 and the outer edge of the electrical resistance element 38.
  • the center of the resistance element 38 is via the spindle 26 of the cigar lighter, via the cup 22, the metal sleeve 20 and the metal socket 10, which in turn is provided with a contact tongue 84, is electrically connected to ground.
  • the resistance element 38 begins to heat up. Its ohmic value is chosen so that the resistance glows within one to two seconds.
  • a resistance value of e.g. B. 0.6 ohms can be selected, so that there is occasionally a current consumption of over 25 A. Such a current is permissible if it flows only during the period of time necessary to make the resistance element 38 glow while the control button 46 is depressed. Conversely, if the user holds the control button in longer than necessary, the resistance element 38 would be damaged after five to ten seconds.
  • the heat of the resistance element 38 is transferred to the bimetail contact element 70, both by radiation, by heat conduction and by convection as a result of the air flow occurring through the openings 76 and 78.
  • the electrical current that flows through this element also contributes to the heating of the bimetal contact element 70. If the element 70 reaches a predetermined target temperature or, in other words, a predetermined connection time of the resistance element 38, which does not exceed two seconds, is reached, then the electrical connection between the two elements 70 and 72 or, as a result of the deformation of the bimetal contact element 70, interrupted between the contact pieces 80 and 82, thereby opening the circuit.
  • the shape of the bimetallic contact element 70 in the deformed state is shown in broken lines in FIG. 3 and is designated 70a.
  • the user can pull the igniter out of the metal socket 10 and light the cigarette in the usual way by holding the resistance element 38, which remains glowing for a few seconds, to the cigarette. As soon as the heat source formed by the resistance element 38 is eliminated, the bimetal contact element 70 returns to its shape and position shown in FIG. 1.
