Definitions

  • the invention relates to a muzzle brake for a barrel weapon with the features of the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a muzzle brake is known from GB-A-168 156.
  • gas outlet openings connected to the muzzle brake which are arranged diametrically opposite one another in a plane running parallel to the surface of the earth, can prevent gases escaping after the shot from striking the earth's surface and whirling up dust clouds obstructing vision.
  • the sleeve-like tube piece has a larger inner diameter than the weapon and it has only one plane around it Circumferential holes for gas passage.
  • the gas outlet openings are located in the tubular casing in rear-facing tubular lugs, through which the gases are to exit at different angles, if necessary, with the aid of additional bends for changing the recoil.
  • this device is unsuitable for the use of sabot projectiles.
  • a low-resistance outflow of the propellant gases is also not possible because of the small cross section for the gas passage and because of the shoulders of the collar protruding into the approaches.
  • US-A-3,858,481 shows a muzzle brake with approximately diametrically opposite outlet openings in a casing tube.
  • the gas passage bores are machined directly into the weapon barrel and lie side by side in parallel rows.
  • the jacket tube is arranged around the weapon barrel in such a way that the gases emerging from the bores are first passed parallel to the gun barrel and then emerge from the relatively narrow slot-like gas outlet openings in the jacket tube.
  • a tube brake is known in which resistance surfaces are formed in screwed parallel or helical ring grooves in the front end region of the weapon barrel and lead through the wall of the tube against these resistance surfaces to the outside to gradually reduce the resistance of the powder gases to have a growing effect.
  • this muzzle brake which is also not exchangeable, the gases escape around the pipe diameter. Visibility and obstruction by powder gases cannot be avoided.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a muzzle brake in which the visual impairment due to flue gases is significantly reduced and only lasts for a shorter period of time, so that when the projectile is fired, the path of the projectile and its target impact can be observed by optical means.
  • the muzzle brake should be replaceable, easy to manufacture and not susceptible to wear and should be particularly suitable for large-caliber weapons and for the use of sabot projectiles.
  • a disadvantageous influence of the sighting means by smoke gases as well as of the condition personnel by dust whirling up or the like should be avoided.
  • Fig. 1 shows a partial sectional view of the side view of the muzzle brake 10, which comprises a pipe section 22 (Fig. 3), the inner diameter of which is of the same caliber.
  • Bores 14 are made in the tube piece 22 and are arranged in a plurality of planes 15 running parallel and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the weapon barrel.
  • the bores 14 are uniform in each plane 15 on the circumference of the pipe section 22 spaced apart and preferably extend in the radial direction.
  • the design of the inner diameter of the pipe section 22 of the same caliber ensures that when sabot projectiles are fired, the sabot detachment can only be initiated after the projectile has emerged from the muzzle of the muzzle brake.
  • bores 14 ' are arranged at an angle ⁇ to the longitudinal axis of the tube in conical surface areas lying one behind the other.
  • the bores 14 and 14 ' are angularly offset from one another in adjacent planes 15 or in adjacent conical lateral surfaces in such a way that they lie "at a gap" to one another. It is thereby achieved that on the inner lateral surface of the muzzle brake 10 there is a uniform distribution between the cross-sectional areas of the bores 14, 14 'and the inner tubular lateral surface.
  • the ratio of the area occupied by the bores to the total inner surface area should expediently not be greater than about 0.5. In this way, the life of the muzzle brake is increased because wear is very even.
  • the cross-sectional areas of the bores 14, 14 ′ are preferably circular; however, other cross-sectional shapes are possible, but they are more difficult to manufacture.
  • annular grooves are made in the outer circumferential surface 40 of the pipe section 22, into which the outlet openings of the bores 14 each lying in a plane 15 open.
  • the grooves 13 are arranged in evenly spaced marriages running parallel to one another and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube in such a way that they also form the outlet openings connect the holes 14 'together.
  • the grooves 13 thus form channels running around the pipe section 22, which very effectively discharge the flue gases emerging from the interior through the bores 14 and 14 '.
  • a spiral-shaped groove can also be provided, which winds around the pipe section 22 of the muzzle brake 10 and connects all outlet openings of all bores 14, 14 'to one another.
  • the pipe section 22 of the muzzle brake 10 is coaxially surrounded by a casing tube 12 which rests gas-tight on the webs present between the grooves 13 and which comprises diametrically opposite extensions 21 with outlet openings 30 arranged there.
  • these outlet openings are arranged in a plane lying parallel to the surface of the earth, in order to ensure that escaping gases can only escape laterally and do not contribute to the raising of dust clouds obstructing the view.
  • the muzzle brake is expediently designed to be screwed onto the weapon barrel. In this way it is easy to replace and can be exchanged for other muzzle brakes if necessary without having to replace the entire barrel.
  • a particularly good effect of the muzzle brake is achieved by the novel arrangement of bores 14, 14 'and circumferential grooves 13.
  • the smoke gases generated during the shot are effectively removed, with the result that an unavoidable visual obstruction by these smoke gases only lasts for a comparatively short period of time compared to conventional solutions.
  • This offers the particular advantage that when a projectile is fired, the path of the projectile and its target impact can be observed with optical means. Furthermore, it is possible to increase the cadence without the accuracy of the target suffering because of a lack of observation of the target due to smoke obstruction.
