Definitions

  • the invention relates to a refractory lining for vessels and ovens with a liquid metal insert, in particular for pig iron transport vessels, such as pipe pans and torpedo pans, with an expansion space provided at least in some areas between the furnace jacket or the permanent lining and the wear lining which is laid seamlessly and a mass which is arranged under pressure and is flexible that contains granular refractory material.
  • the expansion space is created by introducing a compressible backfill material between the furnace jacket or the permanent lining and the wear lining laid without joints.
  • the object of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages mentioned and to fill the expansion space with a mass which is resistant to treading and manipulation, but is sufficiently compressible under the pressure which occurs due to the thermal expansion of the refractory bricks, namely at a pressure which is far below the Quarry limit lies, whereby an exact laying of the wear lining is to be made possible.
  • this object is achieved in that the expansion space with a compressible, hydraulically settable, water-provided backfill consisting of 4-20% by weight of expanded perlite, 15-25% by weight of alumina cement, based on the dry mass , 5-4 wt .-% plasticizers, such as cellulose ether, e.g. B. carboxymethyl cellulose, and the rest is filled to 100 wt .-% of refractory base material.
  • plasticizers such as cellulose ether, e.g. B. carboxymethyl cellulose
  • the fireproof base material of the backfill can consist of magnesite, mullite, corundum, chrome ore, sillimanite, forsterite or mixtures thereof.
  • the backfilling mass is, depending on the desired consistency, provided with a water addition of 35-45% by weight based on the dry mass.
  • Expanded perlite is used as a compressible component of the backfill.
  • Perlite is around liparite or quartz porphyry glasses of volcanic origin. When this rock with many small water inclusions is heated to over 1200 ° C, it expands by 15 to 20 times its volume to form an expanded product with microfine, largely closed pores. Expanded perlite has the following typical composition:
  • Expanded perlite is used for the purposes of the invention in a grain size of approximately 0-5 mm with a relatively small fine fraction below 0.5 mm.
  • composition (in% by weight)
  • a mass of the composition according to Example B was mixed with an addition of 40% by weight of water, based on the dry mass, and between two refractory stones of normal stone format in a layer thickness of 10 mm and under a preload of 0.2 N / mm 2 applied. After drying for 2 hours at room temperature, the mass layer in the hydraulically set state showed the following compressibility depending on the load:
  • the hydraulically set mass is compressible to about 50% at a load of 10 N / mm 2 , which corresponds approximately to the pressure caused by the stone expansion and which is far below the quarry limit, which ensures a safe expansion absorption and for every occurring in practice Pressure a very good clamping of the refractory lining are guaranteed.
  • the dry mass shows practically no changes or segregation during transport, despite the vibrations that occur, as well as during storage and stacking after filling in sacks or containers.
  • the backing of the pig iron vessel is first freed of dust and moistened. Then the backfill compound mixed with water can be applied in the entire cylindrical part of the vessel in one step in the desired thickness. This can be done similarly to the application of a plastering mortar, which is common in the construction industry, i.e. using a trowel or a plaster. It is also possible to use a gate locking machine to apply the mass. The mass adheres so well that it adheres completely overhead and does not fall off. The required uniform application thickness - depending of the expected stone expansion - can be achieved by pulling off with a slat provided with spacer nails.
  • the mass is tread-resistant about 2 hours after the application is complete, and the delivery of the wear lining made of refractory stones can then be started.
  • appropriate heat must be provided for drying or longer waiting times are required.
  • the mass can also be used as a hydraulically setting coating or plastering compound in other furnace units in which the wear lining should specifically move in the direction of the permanent or insulating lining or the sheet metal jacket of the furnace due to the laying without expansion inserts, e.g. B. in Mazieres furnaces, drum furnaces of the non-ferrous metal industry, proboscis of steel degassing plants.
  • the mass has a similar compressibility in the dry state as in the hydraulically set state, it can also be used as a dry backfilling mass.
