Definitions
- the invention relates to an air-cooled internal combustion engine of the type mentioned in the preamble of the first claim.
- This arrangement has the advantage that the camshaft or camshaft housing is aligned indirectly via the intake pipe.
- the intake manifold itself must be mounted in such a way that no connection is required or must be aligned anyway, since a nozzle is required for each cylinder head.
- the camshaft can be arranged laterally or above or below the intake pipe.
- Another advantage of the invention is the fact that the dimensions of the internal combustion engine are practically not affected by the attachment of the camshaft to the intake pipe.
- the camshaft and the valve actuation devices can be accommodated in a housing common to all the cylinder heads lying in a row.
- this is time-consuming when a cylinder is repaired.
- claim 4 proposes to separate the housings for the camshaft and for the valve actuators for each cylinder.
- this has the advantage that a cylinder or cylinder head can now be removed without having to remove the camshaft housing or the housing of the adjacent valve actuation devices.
- only a single type of housing for the valve actuation device needs to be kept available regardless of the number of cylinders.
- the camshaft housing is - as another development (claim 6) suggests - advantageously connected to the intake manifold via the fastening screws for the camshaft bearings or the bearing cover - if a bearing shell is cast in one piece with the housing.
- the camshaft can also be mounted directly on the intake pipe, the intake pipe also taking over the housing function.
- Claim 8 proposes a particularly simple sealing of the valve guide on the housing base for the valve actuation devices.
- the advantage of this arrangement is that the housing can be removed without having to dismantle the valve springs.
- Fig. 1 the single cylinder head of an air-cooled internal combustion engine, not shown, is shown at 1. It includes a. a valve 2, a valve chamber 3 and an air intake duct 4.
- an intake pipe 5 connects laterally to the cylinder head 1, from which a connecting duct 6 branches off into the air inlet duct 4.
- the housing 7 has a U-shaped cross section where the outer leg 7.1 is significantly higher than the inner 7.2.
- the housing 7 is closed on its two non-visible end faces, the camshaft being driven in a manner known per se by a chain inside or a toothed belt outside the housing 7 by the crankshaft or another suitable shaft of the internal combustion engine.
- the camshaft 8 itself is mounted in split bearing switches 9 and 10.
- the fastening screws 11 for the bearing shells are fastened in the intake pipe 5, so that the housing 7 is simultaneously held on the intake pipe 5 by them.
- Another housing 12 is arranged laterally on the housing 7 and on the cylinder head 1. It is attached to the cylinder head 1 via screws 13, 14 and to the housing 7 via a screw-nut connection 15.
- the valve actuation device 16 each consisting of two rocker arms 17, the rocker arm block 18 which is fastened to the housing base, the rocker arm shaft 19 and the valve adjusting screws 20 are accommodated.
- the housing 12 is arranged at the same height as the housing 7 by means of suitable spacer disks 21 if all the housings can be closed by a common cover 22. This height compensation can be omitted when using separate lids.
- Each valve is actuated by the camshaft 8 against the force of the valve spring 23 via the rocker arms 17. This is clamped between the upper valve plate 24 and the lower valve plate 25, which forms a unit with the valve guide 26.
- the valve guide 26 penetrates the bottom of the housing 12.
- a collar 27 surrounding the valve spring 23 is arranged on the valve plate 25. The collar 27 has such a height that it projects securely into the space enclosed by the housing 12.
- a sealing ring 28 is provided, the strength of which corresponds to that of the spacer 21 used in each case. The interior of the housing is thus sealed oil-tight.
- the cover 22 is first removed, then the housing 12 is released. It can then be lifted off the cylinder head together with the rocker arms 17 and their attachment. Then the cylinder head 1 is detached from the intake pipe 5 and after loosening the cylinder head screws, it can be lifted off the cylinder pipe with the valves.
- the housing 7 is shown in one piece with the intake pipe 5 and the housing 12 is shown in one piece with the cylinder head 1.
- an elongated hole is provided for the screw-nut connection 15 in order to compensate for the different overall heights.
- a seal 30 is provided between each housing, and separate covers 31 and 32.
- a commercially available valve guide 33 can now be used, since sealing is no longer necessary here.
- bearing blocks 34 are made in one piece with the intake pipe 5. This requires a much larger position diameter of the camshaft 8, since it is now pushed axially through the bearing blocks.
- the bearing blocks can also be divided, in which case the lower part with the suction pipe is made in one piece and the cover is screwed on.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 It is of course also possible to carry out a combination of the variants of the invention shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, for example to design the housing 12 separately from the cylinder head 1 and the housing 7 in one piece with the intake pipe 5.
