Description

The subject of the invention is a fireplace hearth comprising at least two first cast iron plates, one of which forms the base of the hearth and the other of which forms a wall of the hearth, these first plates comprising, on their rear face remote from the fire, grooves, a fluid circuit consisting of at least one coil being engaged and maintained in these grooves by second plates fixed against said rear faces of the first plates.

Such a hearth is described in French patent 1 552582 and comprises a fluid circuit through a coil engaged in grooves made in one face of two cast iron plates, one of these plates forming the base of the chimney, the other of these plates forming a wall of the hearth. The coil is held in the grooves by an iron plate which covers it. However, this fireplace has no air heating circuits.

In US patent 1 649881. there has been described a furnace with double corrugated rear wall delivering passage to air to be heated and water pipes to be heated engaged in bores of the rear wall integral with the furnace. This type of fireplace cannot easily be adapted to existing chimneys; its manufacture and repairs prove difficult because the water and air circuits came in one piece with the wall of the stove.

In US Patent 4,080,701, a double-walled metal construction has been described in which are engaged water pipes exposed to the flames of the hearth of a chimney. The present invention which aims to remedy the drawbacks of the prior art is characterized, for this purpose, in that said second plates consist of cast iron plates having on their rear face away from the fire ribs against which are applied sheet metal plates intended to delimit an air circuit.

The advantages obtained are a construction allowing on the one hand an easy adaptation to already existing chimneys and easy interventions of repairs and cleaning of the circuit of fluid and air, and on the other hand an effective heating as well of the fluid as air. The cast iron plates acting as a heat accumulator transfer heat to the coil by contact, in a more regular way and simultaneously protect the coil from any possible deterioration due to contact with embers, exposure to fire or thermal shock. .

  • Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing a variant.
  • FIG. 6 is a schematic view of a closed-circuit heating installation connected to the chimney, shown in FIG. 5.

The chimney shown in Figure 1 includes a hearth whose base consists of a cast iron plate 1 having on its underside two grooves 2, 3 in the form of coils, in which are housed two copper coils of a pipe water (see fig. 2). This cast iron plate 1 rests on a second cast iron plate 4 having ribs 5 on its underside (see fig. 3). A double set of sheet metal plates 6 spaced from one another and applied against the ribs 5 of the cast iron plate 4, delimits an air inlet passage 7 which circulates between the ribs 5 of the cast iron plate 4 in contact with which the air heats up.

The bottom of the hearth also includes a cast iron plate 1a having on the back two grooves in the form of coils in which the copper coils of the water pipe extend. This cast iron plate 1a is applied against a cast iron plate 4a, provided on the back with ribs 5 against which is applied a double set of sheet metal plates 8 spaced from one another. Thus, the air, after having circulated between the ribs 5 of the cast iron plate 4, then circulates between the ribs 5 of the plate 4a, in contact with which it continues to heat up before escaping through an opening 9 practiced in the vicinity of hood 10 of the chimney. This hot air increases the ambient temperature of the room in which the chimney is located. Optionally, this opening 9 could be connected to a duct intended to heat a neighboring room. The hot water brought to the base of the hood 10 by the coils taken between the cast iron plates 1a and 4a, then passes through a coil taken between two perforated cast iron plates 11 arranged parallel to the base 1 of the fireplace at the entrance from the hood. One of the plates 11 has, on its face opposite the other, grooves 21 in which this coil is housed (see fig. 4). The openwork parts 12 of the plates 11 allow the passage of smoke from the hearth into the hood 10. Simultaneously, the coil taken between the cast iron plates 11 benefits from an additional supply of heat which heats the water passing through it.

According to the variant shown in Figure 5, the coil disposed in the extension of the coils taken between the cast iron plates 1a and 4a, can be caught between non-perforated cast iron plates 11a fixed to the bottom of the hood. One of the plates 11a present on its face opposite the other, grooves in which this coil is housed.

Many other variants can be envisaged. For example, the side walls of the hearth can also be covered with an assembly of cast iron plates 1a and 4a for heating the air and the water. It is the same for the side and front walls of the hood which could be lined with cast iron plates 11a in which would be taken coils supplied with water.

However, the water circuit has been replaced by an oil circuit 13 connected to a reservoir 14 comprising a water heater 15 on the one hand and a coil 16 for supplying appliances 17 for space heating. There is only shown in this figure the coils taken between the cast iron plates 1-4 and 1a-4a and the coil taken in the non-perforated cast iron plates 11a which are part of the oil circuit 13 connected to the oil tank 14. A circulation pump 18 makes it possible to circulate the oil from the reservoir 14 in the coils taken in the cast iron plates 1-4, 1a-4a and 11a shown in FIG. 5, in a closed circuit, which makes it possible to raise the temperature of the oil contained in the reservoir 14 provided that a fire is lit in the chimney. This heat is then transmitted by the oil from the reservoir 14 to a coil 16 containing water, whether or not added with an antifreeze product, which circulates in a closed circuit between the coil 16 and a radiator 17 by means of a circulation pump 19. It is thus possible to heat one or more attenuating rooms in the room where the chimney is installed by means of one or more radiators 17. Simultaneously, part of the heat is transmitted by the oil to the water contained in the water heater 15 which is connected directly to the pipe 20 for supplying water to the radiators 17 and to the sanitary appliances not shown.

Many variants of the installation shown in Figure 6 can be considered. Among other things, the oil circuit can be replaced by a water circuit; the heating circuit of the radiators 17 can be interrupted while maintaining the heating circuit of the water contained in the water heater 15. Alternatively again, the circuit 13 can be connected directly to one or more radiators 17. In this case, the tank 14 and the water heater 15 are eliminated.
