Description
- Diese Erfindung betrifft die Herstellung von Dithiophosphorsäuren.
- Dithiophosphorsäuren, die wichtige Zwischenstufen bei der Herstellung von Schmierstoff- und Öladditiven sind, werden allgemein durch Umsetzung von Phosphor(V)sulfid (auch als Tetraphosphordekasulfid, P&sub4;S&sub1;&sub0;, bezeichnet) mit einem geeigneten Alkohol oder Phenol hergestellt. Die Reaktion verläuft gemäß der Gleichung:
- P&sub4;S&sub1;&sub0; + 8 ROH T 4 (RO)&sub2;PS&sub2;H + 2 H&sub2;S
- wobei ROH der Alkohol oder das Phenol ist.
- Gemäß US-A-3 274 300 (Van Wazer et al.) werden verbesserte Ausbeuten an Dialkyldithiophosphorsäuren (in dieser Beschreibung als O,O-Dialkylphosphordithiate bezeichnet) erhalten, wenn der Alkohol mit einem Phosphorsulfid und einem Überschuß an Schwefel umgesetzt wird. Gemäß dieser Beschreibung ist es wesentlich, eine ausreichende Menge an Schwefel zu verwenden, um für ein atomares Verhältnis von Schwefel zu Phosphor von mindestens 2,6 zu sorgen, d. h. mehr Schwefel, als zur Bildung von Phosphor(V)sulfid erforderlich ist, und dieser Überschuß an Schwefel muß in bösung oder in chemischer Kombination mit dem Phosphor in der Phosphorsulfidzusammensetzung vorliegen. Eine mechanische Mischung von Schwefel mit Phosphor(V)sulfid ergibt ein schlechteres Ergebnis und gemäß einem Vergleichsbeispiel führt die Umsetzung von Phosphor(V)sulfid mit n-Butanol bei der Rückflußtemperatur (etwa 114ºC) in Gegenwart von zusätzlichem Schwefel, um für ein gesamtes atomares Verhältnis von Schwefel zu Phosphor von 3,5 zu sorgen, zu einer Ausbeute an Dibutyldithiophosphorsäure (O,O-Dibutylphosphordithioat) von nur etwa 60 %.
- Wir haben nun überraschenderweise gefunden, daß hervorragende Ausbeuten an Dithiophosphorsäureri durch Umsetzung von Phosphorsesquisulfid (P&sub4;S&sub3;) mit elementarem Schwefel und dem erforderlichen Alkohol oder Phenol bei erhöhter Temperatur erhalten werden können. Die Umsetzung verläuft anscheinend nach der Gleichung:
- P&sub4;S&sub3; + 7/8 S&sub8; + 8 ROH T 4 (RO)&sub2;PS&sub2;H + 2 H&sub2;S
- (wobei ROH der verwendete Alkohol oder das verwendete Phenol ist). Diese Reaktion hat die gleiche gesamte Stöchiometrie wie die Umsetzung von Phosphor(V)sulfid mit einern Alkohol, es ist aber völlig unerwartet, daß Phosphorsesquisulfid mit Schwefel bei den relativ niedrigen Temperaturen, die in dem neuen Verfahren verwendet werden, reagiert und es ist in der Tat nicht eindeutig, daß das neue Verfahren über Phosphor(V)sulfid als Zwischenstufe abläuft.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung liefert demnach ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Dithiophosphorsäure, bei dem Phosphorsesquisulfid mit Schwefel und einem Alkohol oder Phenol bei erhöhter Temperatur umgesetzt wird, wobei das gesamte atomare Verhältnis von Schwefel zu Phosphor mindestens 2,5 zu 1 beträgt.
- Das Verfahren wird vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur von etwa 85ºC bis 150ºC und am zweckmäßigsten bei der Rückflußtemperatur des verwendeten Alkohols oder Phenols durchgeführt. Der Reaktionsmischung kann ein Lösungsmittel zugesetzt sein, ist aber üblicherweise nicht notwendig, wenn der Siedepunkt des verwendeten Alkohols oder Phenols nicht über der Zersetzungstemperatur der Ausgangsmaterialien oder der Reaktionsprodukte liegt.
- Eine weite Vielfalt van Alkoholen oder Phenolen kann in dem neuen Verfahren verwendet werden, wobei insbesondere ein- und mehrwertige, geradkettige oder verzweigte aliphatische Alkohole mit bis zu 20, vorzugsweise 3 bis 10 Kahlenstoffatomen, die substituiert sein können, z. B. mit einem Mercaptorest der Formel R'-S-, wobei R' ein substituierter oder nicht substituierter aliphatischer Rest mit bis zu 12 Kohlenstoffatomen ist, oder mit einem Acyloxyrest mit bis zu 20 Kohlenstoffatomen, und Alkylphenole mit bis zu 20 Kohlenstoffatomen in dem Alkylrest eingeschlossen sein können. Spezifische Beispiele für Alkohole und Phenole, die in dem neuen Verfahren verwendet werden können, sind n-Butanol, 2-Ethylhexan-1-ol, Isobutanol, Glycerin, Glycerinmonooleat, p-Nonylphenol und p-Dodecylphenol. Mischungen von Alkoholen und Phenolen können auch verwendet werden, z. B. Isopropanol und sec.-Hexanol, sec.-Butanol und Isobutanol, sec.-Butanol und 2-Ethylhexanol, und Isobutanol und Isopentanol. Da aus praktischen Gründen ein flüssiges Produkt möglicherweise gegenüber einem festen kristallinen Produkt bevorzugt ist, ist die Verwendung von Mischungen aus Alkoholen und/oder Phenolen oft bevorzugt.
- Der Anteil des Schwefels in Bezug auf das Phosphorsesquisulfid soll mindestens für die Stöchiometrie der Reaktion wie oben beschrieben ausreichend sein. Sowohl das Phosphorsesquisulfid als auch der Schwefel können von normaler Synthesequalität sein und in feinteiliger Form vorliegen.
- Dithiophosphorsäuren können mit basischen Zinkverbindungen unter Bildung der entsprechenden Zinkdikohlenwasserstoffdithiophosphate umgesetzt werden, die wohlbekannte Schmierstoffadditive sind, die überwiegend als Antiverschleißmittel verwendet werden, aber auch Antioxidationswirkung liefern. Die Herstellung solcher Zinkdithiophosphate und deren Verwendung in Schmierölzusammensetzungen ist Fachleuten wohlbekannt.
- Das Schmieröl, zu dem das Metalldithiophosphat gegeben werden kann, schließt Mineralschmieröle und synthetische Schmieröle und Mischungen derselben ein. Die synthetischen Schmieröle schließen Poly-α-olefine, Diesteröle wie Di(2-ethylhexyl)sebacat, -azelat und -adipat, komplexe Esteröle wie solche, die aus Dicarbonsäuren, Glykolen und entweder einwertigen Säuren oder einwertigen Alkoholen gebildet sind, und Silikonöle ein.
- Das Schmierölbasismaterial für die erfindungsgemäßen Antioxidansadditive ist typischerweise adaptiert, um durch Einbringung von einem oder mehreren Additiven unter Bildung von Schmierölzusammensetzungen (d. h. Formulierungen) eine gewählte Funktion auszuüben.
- Repräsentative Additive, die typischerweise in solchen Formulierungen vorhanden sind, schließen Viskositätsmodifizierungs mittel, Korrosionsschutzmittel, andere Oxidationsschutzmittel, andere Reibungsmodifizierungsmittel, Dispergiermittel, Antischaummittel, Antiverschleißmittel, Stockpunktsenkungsmittel, Detergentien und Rostschutzmittel ein.
- Viskositätsmodifizierungsmittel verleihen dem Schmieröl Betriebsfähigkeit bei hoher und tiefer Temperatur und lassen es bei erhöhten Temperaturen scherstabil bleiben und auch eine akzeptable Viskosität oder Fließfähigkeit bei niedrigen Temperaturen zeigen.
- Viskositätsmodifizierungsmittel sind im allgemeinen Kohlenwasserstoffpolymere mit hohem Molekulargewicht einschließlich Polyester. Die Viskositätsmodifizierungsmittel können auch derivatisiert sein, um andere Eigenschaften oder Funktionen wie zusätzliche Dispergierfähigkeitseigenschaften einzuschließen.
- Diese öllöslichen viskositätsmodifizierenden Polymere haben im allgemeinen durchschnittliche Molekulargewichte (Gewichtsmittel) von etwa 10³ bis 10&sup6;, z. B. 20 000 bis 250 000, bestimmt durch Gelpermeationschromatographie oder Membranosmometrie.
- Repräsentative Beispiele für geeignete Viskositätsmodifizierungsmittel sind beliebige im Stand der Technik bekannten Typen einschließlich Polyisobutylen, Copolymere aus Ethylen und Propylen, Polymethacrylate, Methacrylatcopolymere, Copolymere aus einer ungesättigten Dicarbonsäure und Vinylverbindung, Interpolymere aus Styrol und Acrylestern und Styrol/Isopren-Copolymere.
- Korrosionsschutzmittel, auch als antikorrosive Mittel bezeichnet, verringern die Degeneration metallischer Teile, die von der Schmierölzusammensetzung kontaktiert werden. Beispiele für Korrosionsschutzmittel sind phosphosulfurierte Kohlenwasserstoffe und die Produkte, die durch die Umsetzung eines phosphosulfurierten Kohlenwasserstoffs mit einem Erdalkalimetalloxid oder -hydroxid, vorzugsweise in Gegenwart eines alkylierten Phenols oder eines Alkylphenolthioesters und außerdem vorzugsweise in Gegenwart von Kohlendioxid, erhalten werden. Phosphosulfurierte Kohlenwasserstoffe werden durch Umsetzung eines geeigneten Kohlenwasserstoffs wie eines Terpens, einer schweren Erdölfraktion eines C&sub2;- bis C&sub6;- Olefinpolymers wie Polyisobuten, mit 5 bis 30 Gew.% eines Phosphorsulfids für 1/2 bis 15 Stunden bei einer Temperatur im Bereich von etwa 65 bis etwa 316ºC (150 bis 600ºF) hergestellt. Die Neutralisation des phosphosulfurierten Kohlenwasserstoffs kann durch die in US-A-1 969 324 gelehrte Weise bewirkt werden.
- Oxidationsschutzmittel verringern die Tendenz der Mineralöle, während des Betriebes zu altern, wobei sich die Alterung durch Oxidationsprodukte wie Schlamm und firnisartige Ablagerungen auf den Metalloberf lächen und durch Viskositäterhöhung bemerkbar machen kann. Solche Qxidationsschutzmittel schließen ZDDPS, aromatische Amine wie alkylierte Diphenylamine und Phenyl-α-naphthylamin, gehinderte Phenole, Kupferverbindungen, Erdalkalimetallsalze von Alkylphenolthioethern, die vorzugsweise C&sub5;- bis C&sub1;&sub2;-Alkylseitenketten haben, z. B. Calciumnonylphenolsulfid, Barium-t-octylphenylsulfid, Dioctylphenylamin, Phenyl- α-naphthylamin, phosphosulfurierte oder sulfurierte Kohlenwasserstoffe, usw., ein.
- Reibungsmodifizierungsmittel dienen dazu, den Schmierölzusammensetzungen wie Automatikgetriebe-Flüssigkeiten die richtigen Reibungseigenschaften zu verleihen.
- Repräsentative Beispiele geeigneter Reibungsmodifizierungsmittel finden sich in US-A-3 933 659, das Fettsäureester und -amide offenbart, US-A-4 176 074, das Molybdänkomplexe von Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrid-aminoalkanolen beschreibt, US-A-4 105 571, das Glycerinester dimerisierter Fettsäuren offenbart, US-A-3 779 928, das Salze der Alkanphosphonsäure offenbart, US-A-3 778 375, das Reaktionsprodukte eines Phosphonats mit einem Oleamid offenbart, US-A-3 852 205, das S-Carboxyalkylen(kohlenwasserstoff)succinimid, S-Carboxyalkylen(kohlenwasserstoff)succinamidsäure und Mischungen hiervon beschreibt, US- A-3 879 306, das N-(Hydroxyalkyl)alkenyl-succinamidsäuren oder -succinimide offenbart, US-A-3 932 290, das Reaktionsprodukte von Di-(niedrige Alkyl)phosphiten und Epoxiden offenbart und US- A-4 028 258, das das Alkylenoxidaddukt von phosphosulfurierten N-(Hydroxyalkyl)-alkenylsuccinimiden offenbart. Die besonders bevorzugten Reibungsmodifizierungsmitteln sind Succinatester oder deren Metallsalze aus kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten Bernsteinsäuren oder -anhydriden und Thiobisalkanolen, wie in US-A- 4 344 853 beschrieben.
- Dispergiermittel halten ölunlösliche Stoffe, die durch Oxidation während des Gebrauchs entstehen, in der Flüssigkeit suspendiert und verhindern so die Ausflockung von Schlamm und Niederschlägen oder Ablagerungen auf Metallteilen. Geeignete Dispergiermittel schließen Alkylsuccinimide mit hohem Molekulargewicht, das Reaktionsprodukt von öllöslichem Polyisobutylenbernsteinsäureanhydrid mit Ethylenaminen wie Tetraethylenpentamin, und deren borierte Salze ein.
- Stockpunktsenkungsmittel senken die Temperatur, bei der die Flüssigkeit fließfähig ist oder gegossen werden kann. Solche Senkungsmittel sind wohlbekannt. Typisch für solche Additive, die brauchbarerweise die Tieftemperaturfließfähigkeit der Flüssigkeit optimieren, sind C&sub3;- bis C&sub1;&sub8;-Dialkylfumarat/Vinylacetatcopolymere, Polymethacrylate und Paraffinnaphthalin. Die Kontrolle des Schäumens kann durch ein Antischaummittel vom Polysiloxantyp, z. B. Silikonöl und Polydimethylsiloxan, erfolgen.
- Detergentien und Metallrostschutzmittel schließen die Metallsalze von Sulfonsäuren, Alkylphenolen, sulfurierten Alkylphenolen, Alkylsalicylaten, Naphthenaten und anderen öllöslichen Mono- oder Dicarbonsäuren ein.
- Hochbasische ("überbasische") Metallsalze wie die hochbasischen Erdalkalimetallsulfonate (insbesondere Ca- und Mg-Salze) werden oft als Detergentien verwendet.
- Kupfer- und Bleikorrosionsschutzmittel und Antiverschleißmittel schließen Boratester, Thiadiazole wie Derivate von 2,5- Dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazol und Benzotriazole ein.
- Einige dieser vielfältigen Additive können mehrere Wirkungen liefern, z. B. ein Dispergiermittel-Oxidationsschutzmittel. Diese Annäherung ist wohlbekannt und braucht hier nicht weiter ausgearbeitet zu werden.
- Zusammensetzungen, die diese konventionellen Additive enthalten, werden typischerweise in Mengen, die effektiv sind, um ihre normale erwartete Funktion zu bewirken, mit dem Basisöl vermischt. Repräsentative wirksame Mengen solcher Additive werden wie folgt illustriert: Zusammensetzungen Viskositätsmodifizierungsmittel Korrosionsschutmittel Oxidationsschutzmittel Dispergiermittel Stockpunktsenkungsmittel Antischaummittel Antiverschleißmittel Reibtingsmodifizierungsmittel Detergentien/Rostschutzmittel Mmeralölgrundstoff Differenz bis auf 100%
- Alle genannten Gewichtsprozente beziehen sich hier auf den Gehalt an aktivem Bestandteil (active ingredient, a. i.) des Additivs und/oder auf das Gesamtgewicht eines beliebigen Additivpakets oder einer Formulierung, das aus der Summe der a. i. Gewichte von jedem Additiv und dein Gesamtgewicht des Öls oder Verdünnungsmittels besteht.
- Die Menge der Dithiophosphatmischung, die dem Schmieröl zugesetzt wird, ist ein geringer Gewichtsanteil, vorzugsweise weniger als 20 Gew.%, insbesondere 0,2 bis 2,0 und insbesondere 0,5 bis 1,5 Gew.%.
- Additive für Schmieröle werden allgemein als Konzentrate in Lösungsmittel (z. B. Öl) zur Einbringung in die Masse des Schmieröls vertrieben. Erfindungsgemäß umfaßt ein Konzentrat ein Lösungsmittel und 20 bis 90 Gew.% des erfindungsgemäßen Metalldithiophosphats. Geeignete Lösungsmittel schließen Kerosin, aromatische Naphthas, Mineralschmieröle, etc. ein. Solche Konzentrate können ein oder mehrere andere Schmieröladditive wie oben beschrieben enthalten, um ein Paket zu bilden, welches mit Schmierstoffbasismaterial unter Bildung einer Schmierölzusammensetzung verdünnt werden kann.
- Das folgende Beispiel illustriert die Erfindung.
- Phosphorsesguisulfid (3,0 g, 13,6 mmol) und Schwefel (3,06 g, 11,9 mmol) wurden in unter Rückfluß siedendem n-Butanol (8,9 g, 120 mmol) 2 Stunden bei 110ºC erhitzt. Es entwickelte sich Schwefelwasserstoff und der Schwefel löste sich langsam auf. Die Analyse des Produkts durch ³¹P-NMR zeigte, daß die Ausbeute des erwarteten O,O-Dibutyldithiophosphats 92 % betrug, bezogen auf den Phosphorgehalt.
- Gewünschtenfalls kann das Produkt von dem überschüssigen n- Butanol in bekannter Weise, z. B. durch fraktionierte Destillation, getrennt werden.
Claims (4)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Dithiophosphorsäure, bei dem
Phosphorsesquisulfid in Gegenwart eines Alkohols oder
Phenols bei 85 bis 150ºC mit Schwefel umgesetzt wird, wobei das
gesamte atomare Verhältnis von Schwefel zu Phosphor
mindestens 2,5:1 beträgt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem der Alkohol ein ein- oder
mehrwertiger, geradkettiger oder verzweigter aliphatischer
Alkohol mit 3 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen oder ein Alkylphenol
mit bis zu 20 Kohlenstoffatomen im Alkylrest ist.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, bei dem der Alkohol n-Butanol
oder 2-Ethylhexan-1-ol ist.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2 oder 3, bei dem die Umsetzung bei
der Rückflußtemperatur des verwendeten Alkohols bewirkt
wird.
