Description
- Die vorliegenden Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Verbindungen, die als Antioxidationsmittel und insbesondere als Antioxidationsmittel zur Verwendung in Schmiermitteln geeignet sind.
- Aus dem Artikel von Richter et al., "The Condensation of 2- Hydroxyethylsulfides with Alkohols and Phenols", Journal of Polymer Science, Vol. XLI, Seiten 4076-4079, ist bekannt, daß die Umsetzung eines β-Dithiodialkanols in Anwesenheit von Salzsäure mit einem Alkohol zu dem entsprechenden Ether als Reaktionsprodukt führt. Die darin angewandte Methode ist auch in der US-PS 2,582,605, erteilt am 15. Januar, 1952, beschrieben.
- Aus der DE 1,520,040A ist bekannt, daß Guerbet-Alkohole mit Thiodialkylolen in einem Molverhältnis von 1:0.5 bis 0.9 kondensiert werden können. In der US-PS 4,366,307, erteilt am 28. Dezember 1982 an Singh et al., sind nicht-kristallisierende, gegen Wasser, Lösungsmittel, Brenn- und Treibstoffe und Temperatur beständige, flüssige Polythioether mit 2 bis 4 endständigen Resten und mindestens 8 Schwefel-enthaltende Grundeinheiten beschrieben.
- In der US-PS 2,230,966, erteilt am 4. Februar, 1941 an Reid, sind Alkylthiodiethylsulfid-Zusammensetzungen beschrieben. Diese Verbindungen können in Schmiermitteln und insbesondere als Transformatoren- Flüssigkeiten und Motoröle verwendet werden.
- Weitere Informationen bezüglich der Polymerisation von β-Thiodialkanolen finden sich in der Arbeit von Woodward, "Thioglykol Polymers I Hydrochloric Acid-Catalyzed Auto Condensation of Thiodiglycol", Journal of Polymer Science, Vol. XLI, (1959) Seiten 219-223. Darin besitzen die Hydroxylreste in β-Stellung relativ zum Schwefel in der aliphatischen Kette eine außergewöhnliche Reaktivität. Weitere Informationen über solche β- Dialkanole finden sich in der Arbeit von Andrews et al., "Thioglycol Polymers III Copolymerization of Thiodiglycol and Similar Thioglycols with Aliphatic Hydroxy Compounds", Journal of Polymer Science, Vol. XLI (1959) Seiten 231-239. Darin sind Copolymere beschrieben, die man aus Dihydroxyverbindungen erhält, wobei eine der Verbindungen Thiodiglykol ist.
- In der US-PS 3,450,771, erteilt am 17. Juni 1969 an Dombro, sind organische Sulfide beschrieben, die durch Umsetzung eines Mercaptans, wie n-Octylmercaptan, mit einem Alkohol, wie Methanol, in einem alkalischen Medium hergestellt werden können. Dombro beschreibt darin sein Verfahren, das zur Abtrennung von Mercaptanen aus Erdölerzeugnissen geeignet ist.
- In einem Artikel von Fokin et al.,"Nucleophilic Substitution of Hydroxyl Groups in 2-Alkyl(Aryl)-Thioethanols", in Bull. Acad. Sci. U.S.S.R. Div. Chem. Sci., 1982, Seite 1667, wird die Homokondensation von 2- Alkylthioethanolen beschieben. Aus dieser Druckschrift ist auch bekannt, daß ein 2-Alkylthioethanol mit einem Alkohol zu einem Produkt umgesetzt werden kann, das sowohl Schwefel- als auch Ether-Brücken enthält. Darin sind auch aromatische, Schwefel-enthaltende Verbindungen mit β- Hydroxygruppen und deren Reaktionseigenschaften beschrieben. Die Fokin Druckschrift beschreibt keinen besonderen Nutzen oder speziellen Vorteil der Zusammensetzungen.
- In der US-PS 4,031,023, erteilt am 21. Juni, 1977 an Musser und Koch, sind Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen, die Hydroxythioether verwenden, Verfahren zur Verwendung solcher Verbindungen in Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen und Additivkonzentrate zur Herstellung solcher Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen beschrieben. Diese Zusammensetzungen besitzen endständige Mercaptan- und Hydroxygruppen.
- Erfindungsgemäß wurde festgestellt, daß verschiedene Produkte aus Thiodialkanolen, die mit einem Mercaptan umgesetzt wurden, hergestellt werden können. Es wird weiterhin beschrieben, daß β-Thiodialkanole polymerisiert werden können, und daß die endständigen Hydroxygruppen am polymerisierten Thiodialkanol mit dem Mercaptan blockiert sind, wie später beschrieben wird.
- Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Zusammensetzungen sind besonders effektiv als Antioxidationsmittel in Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen und sie sind in der Lage, in spezialisierten Verwendungen als Schmiermittel per se mit außergewöhnlichen Antioxidationseigenschaften zu wirken.
- Wenn nicht anderes angegeben beziehen sich die Prozentangaben und Verhältnisse in der Beschreibung und in den Ansprüchen auf das Gewicht, Temperaturen sind in Grad Celsius angegeben und Drücke in KPa.
- Gemäß einem Aspekt betrifft die vorliegenden Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel
- R-S-(CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-Sx-CH&sub2;CH&sub2;O)y-CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-Sx-CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-S-R¹
- wobei x den Wert 1 oder 2 hat, y den Wert 0 hat oder größer ist, und die Reste R und R¹ gleich oder verschieden und C&sub2;&submin;&sub2;&sub4;-Hydrocarbylreste sind, mit der Maßgabe, daß mindestens einer der Reste R und R¹ etwa 5 bis etwa 24 C-Atome enthält,
- umfassend die Umsetzung von mindestens einem Äquivalent eines Mercaptans der allgemeinen Formel RSH und mindestens einem Äquivalent eines Mercaptans der allgemeinen Formel R¹SH, wobei die Reste R und R¹ gleich oder verschieden und C&sub2;&submin;&sub2;&sub4;-Hydrocarbylreste sind, mit der Maßgabe, daß mindestens einer der Reste R und R¹ etwa 5 bis 24 C-Atome enthält, mit mindestens zwei Äquivalenten eines β-Thiodialkanols ausgewählt aus der Gruppe Thiodiglykol, Dithiodiglykol und deren Gemischen.
- Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Verbindungen können in Automatikgetriebeölen oder in einer kleineren Menge mit einer größeren Menge eines Öls mit Schmierviskosität verwendet werden.
- Verschiedene bevorzugte Merkmale und Ausführungsformen der vorliegenden Erfindung werden nun hier beschrieben, schränken die Erfindung aber nicht ein.
- Der erste Aspekt des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens betrifft die darin verwendeten Mercaptane. Mercaptane sind eine Gruppe von organischen Schwefelverbindungen; das sind Schwefelwasserstoffderivate, in der gleichen Art wie Alkohole Derivate von Wasser sind. Mercaptane werden im allgemeinen auch als Thiole bezeichnet. Mercaptane besitzen typischerweise eine -SH-Gruppe im Molekül.
- In dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren enthalten die Mercaptane eine einzelne Thiol- oder -SH-Gruppe. Die Mercaptane können aliphatischen Charakter und die allgemeine Formel
- RSH OR R'SH
- haben. Das Mercaptan ist in dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren höchst reaktiv, und das Mercaptan (SH) kondensiert mit der Hydroxylgruppe des Thioalkohols, wie später beschrieben wird, unter Bildung des gewünschten Produkts und Wasser.
- Das Mercaptan ist zweckmäßig eine Verbindung, die eine aliphatische oder aromatische Hydrocarbylgruppe R (oder R¹) besitzt, die dem Produkt mindestens einen in Öl dispergierbaren oder öllöslichen Charakter verleiht.
- Ist das Mercaptan eine aliphatische Verbindung, so enthält es im allgemeinen etwa 2 bis etwa 24 C-Atome, vorzugsweise etwa 4 bis etwa 18 C-Atome, mit der Maßgabe, daß die Umsetzung mit mindestens einem Äquivalent eines Mercaptans mit mindestens 5 C-Atomen durchgeführt wird. Beispiele für diese Mercaptane sind Methylmercaptan, Ethylmercaptan, Propylmercaptan, n-Butylmercaptan, n-Pentylmercaptan und die verschiedenen Isomeren dieser Verbindungen. Weitere Mercaptane schließen Dodecylmercaptan ein. Ein Beispiel eines aromatischen Mercaptans ist Thiophenol. Weitere geeignete Mercaptane sind Heterocyclen, die (-SH)-Gruppen enthalten, wie Mercaptothiadiazole und Mercaptobenzothiazole. In der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es sehr wünschenswert, daß das Mercaptan im wesentlichen keine Hydroxylgruppen enthält, sodaß das Reaktionsprodukt des β-Thiodialkanols und des Mercaptans auch im wesentlichen keine Hydroxylgruppen besitzt.
- Die zweite Komponente des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens ist ein β- Thiodialkanol, in dem sich das die Sulfidbrücke bildende Schwefelatom zwei C-Atome von einer oder von beiden Hydroxylgruppen entfernt befindet.
- Das β-Thiodialkanol ist Thiodiglykol oder Dithiodiglykol mit der allgemeinen Formel
- HO-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-Sx-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-OH
- wobei x den Wert 1 oder 2 hat.
- Das β-Thiodialkanol enthält vorzugsweise pro Grundeinheit nur ein Schwefelatom, d.h. x hat den Wert 1. Jedoch ist es tragbar und unter einigen Bedingungen wünschenswert, daß x den Wert 2 hat. Dies führt dann im Molekül zu einer Disulfidstruktur. Es sind auch Zusammensetzungen möglich, die Gemische aus Monosulfid und Disulfid bilden. Für ein Automatikgetriebeöl ist das Monosulfid erwünscht. In Motoren-Ölen sind einige Disulfide erwünscht, um ihnen Antiverschleiß- sowie Antioxidationseigenschaften zu verleihen.
- Bezüglich der Strukturformel für die nach dem vorstehend beschrieben erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Produkte hat y den Wert 0 oder größer, vorzugsweise den Wert 1 bis 5 für Polymere, und insbesondere den Wert 1 bis 3. Eine derartige Polymerization wird erhalten, wenn mindestens ein Äquivalent Thiodialkanol im Überschuß verwendet wird. Die Polymerization des Thiodialkanols kann unabhängig von ihrer Einführung in das Mercaptan durchgeführt werden, oder kann in situ durchgeführt werden, z.B. in einer sogenannten Ein-Topf-Reaktion, wobei das Thiodialkanol und das Mercaptan nebeneinander vorliegen. Soll ein Produkt erhalten werden, in dem y den Wert 0 hat, so wird zuerst das Mercaptan in das Reaktionsgefäß eingebracht und danach das Thiodialkanol langsam zugesetzt. Sind längere Polymere erwünscht, z.B. wenn y eine große Zahl ist, dann ist es möglich, erst nach der Polymerisation des Thiodialkanols das Mercaptan zuzugeben.
- Bezüglich der vorstehend beschriebenen Strukturformel ist es wünschenswert, daß einer der Reste R oder R¹ ein aliphatischer Rest ist. Eine weitere wünschenswerte Variation ist, wenn einer der Reste R oder R¹ ein aromatischer Rest ist. Ist R oder R¹ ein aliphatischer Rest, ist es wünschenswert, daß der aliphatische Rest 4 bis 1 8 C-Atome, vorzugsweise 6 bis 18 C-Atome enthält, so daß mindestens einer der Reste R oder R¹ 5 bis 24 C-Atome enthält.
- Wie schon vorstehend erwähnt, wird das Produkt mit einem Mercaptanrest blockiert (RS oder R¹S)
- Man erreicht dies, wenn bei der Herstellung zwei Äquivalente Mercaptan pro zwei Äquivalente Thiodialkanol vorliegen. Ist das Thiodialkanol eine difunktionelle Verbindung, so wird sie an jedem Ende des Thiodiglykolmoleküls mit einem Äquivalent eines Monomercaptans umgesetzt wobei zwei Äquivalente Wasser freigesetzt werden. Dadurch entsteht das gewünschte Reaktionsprodukt. Da das Mercaptan etwas langsamer reagiert als das Thiodialkanol polymerisiert, ist es möglich, zwei Äquivalente des Mercaptans und eine wesentlich höhere Anzahl an Thiodialkanoläquivalenten zu verwenden, um das gewünschte Reaktionsprodukt zu erhalten. Das Äquivalentgewicht des Thiodialkanols ist die Hälfte seines Molekulargewichts.
- Das Mercaptan und das Thiodialkanol werden in einem geeigneten Reaktionsgefäß umgesetzt, das wegen des üblen Geruches des Mercaptans mit einer Kühlfalle ausgerüstet ist. Es ist wünschenswert, daß jegliches nicht umgesetztes Mercaptan aus dem Reaktionsprodukt ausgewaschen wird, um bei der darauffolgenden Umsetzung jeden unangenehmen Geruch im Arbeitsbereich zu vermeiden. Es ist jedoch zur Verwendung in den später beschriebenen Schmiermitteln möglich, kleine Mengen des Mercaptans oder des Thiodialkanols oder des polymerisierten Thiodialkanols dem Endprodukt einzuverleiben.
- Die Temperaturbedingungen zur Durchführung der Umsetzung liegen im allgemeinen bei etwa 50ºC bis etwa 200ºC, vorzugsweise bei etwa 100ºC bis etwa 150ºC. Das Reaktionsgemisch wird geeigneterweise mit mäßiger Geschwindigkeit gerührt, sodaß ein Vermischen der Inhaltsstoffe und damit eine vollständige Umsetzung erreicht wird. Die Umsetzung erfolgt vorzugsweise säurekatalysiert. Geeignete Säuren dafür sind Mineralsäuren, wie Schwefelsäure oder Phosphorsäure oder eine organische Säure, wie p- Toluolsulfonsäure. Der Katalysator muß nicht aus dem Endprodukt entfernt werden; gewünschtenfalls kann der Katalysator mittels Basen-Behandlung und Filtration entfernt werden.
- Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Verbindungen sind in verschiedenen Schmiermittelprodukten und insbesondere in Kraftfahrzeugschmiermitteln geeignet. Die Schmiermittel enthalten im allgemeinen einen Schmiermittelgrundstoff, das ein Öl mit Schmierviskosität ist, wie nachstehend beschrieben wird. Die erhaltenen Produkte sind Peroxidzersetzungsmittel und Metallkomplexbildner.
- In den Schmiermitteln und in den funktionellen Flüssigkeiten der vorliegenden Erfindung können nicht-raffinierte, raffinierte und reraffinierte Öle (und Gemische dieser Öle untereinander) der vorstehend genannten Typen verwendet werden. Nicht-raffinierte Öle sind solche Öle, die direkt aus einer natürlichen oder synthetischen Quelle ohne weitere Reinigungsschritte gewonnen werden. Ein nicht-raffiniertes Öl ist beispielsweise ein direkt durch Erhitzen erhaltenes Schieferöl, ein direkt aus der Destillation erhaltenes Mineralöl oder ein direkt aus einer Veresterungsreaktion erhaltenes Esteröl, welches ohne weitere Verarbeitung verwendet wird. Raffinierte Öle gleichen den nicht-raffinierten Ölen, mit dem Unterschied, daß sie nach einer oder mehreren Reinigungsmethoden weiterbehandelt wurden, um eine oder mehrere Eigenschaften zu verbessern. Viele dieser Reinigungstechniken sind dem Fachmann bekannt, wie Flüssig-Flüssig-Extraktion, Säuren- oder Basenextraktion, Filtration, Perkolation usw.. Reraffinierte Öle werden aus Prozessen erhalten, die denen der einfachen Raffination ähneln und auf raffinierte Öle angewendet werden, die bereits in Verwendung waren. Solche reraffinierten Öle sind auch als regenerierte oder aufbereitete Öle bekannt und werden oft zusätzlichen Verfahrenschritten unterworfen, um verbrauchte Additive und Ölzersetzungsprodukte zu entfernen.
- Die hier verwendeten synthetischen Schmieröle schließen Kohlenwasserstofföle und halogensubstituierte Kohlenwasserstofföle ein, wie polymerisierte und copolymerisierte Olefine (wie Polybutene, Polypropene, Propen-Isobuten-Copolymere, chlorierte Polybutene u.s.w., Poly-(1-hexene), Poly-(1-octene), Poly-(1-decene) usw. und Gemische davon), Alkylbenzole (wie Dodecylbenzole, Tetradecylbenzole, Dinonylbenzole, Di-(2-ethylhexyl)-benzole usw.), Polyphenyle (wie Biphenyle, Terphenyle, alkylierte Polyphenyle usw.), alkylierte Diphenylether und alkylierte Diphenylsulfide und deren Derivate, Analoga und Homologe und ähnliche.
- Eine weitere Gruppe bekannter synthetischer Schmieröle sind Alkylenoxidpolymere und -copolymere sowie deren Derivate, in denen die terminalen Hydroxylgruppen durch Veresterung, Veretherung usw. modifiziert sind. Beispiele hierfür sind Öle, die durch Polymerisation von Ethylenoxid oder Propylenoxid hergestellt sind, die Alkyl- und Arylether dieser Polyoxyalkenpolymere (wie Methyl-poly(isopropylenglykolether) mit einem mittleren Molekulargewicht von etwa 100, Diphenylether aus Polyethylenglykol mit einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 500 bis etwa 1000, Diethylether aus Polypropylenglykol mit einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 1000 ± 500 usw.) oder deren Mono- und Polycarbonsäureester, wie Essigsäureester, gemischte C&sub3;-C&sub8;-Fettsäureester, oder die C&sub1;&sub3;- Oxosäurediester des Tetraethylenglykols.
- Eine weitere geeignete Gruppe synthetischer Schmieröle umfaßt die Ester von Dicarbonsäuren (wie Phthalsäure, Bernsteinsäure, Alkylbernsteinsäuren und Alkenylbernsteinsäuren, Maleinsäure, Azelainsäure, Korksäure, Sebazinsäure, Fumarsäure, Adipinsäure, das Dimer der Linolsäure, Malonsäure, Alkylmalonsäuren, Alkenylmalonsäuren usw.) mit den verschiedensten Alkoholen (wie Butanol, Hexanol, Dodecanol, 2- Ethylhexanol, Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglykolmonoether oder Propylenglykol usw.). Spezielle Beispiele dieser Ester sind Dibutyladipat, Di-(2-ethylhexyl)- sebazat, Di-n-hexylfumarat, Dioctylsebazat, Diisooctylazelat, Diisodecylazelat, Dioctylphthalat, Didecylphthalat, Dieikosylsebazat, der 2- Ethylhexyldiester des Linolsäuredimers, der komplexe Ester aus der Reaktion von 1 Mol Sebazinsäure mit 2 Mol Tetraethylenglykol und 2 Mol 2- Ethylhexansäure usw.
- Für synthetische Öle verwendbare Ester schließen solche aus C&sub5; bis C&sub1;&sub2;- Monocarbonsäuren und Polyolen und Polyolethern, wie Neopentylglykol, Trimethylolpropan, Pentaerythrit, Dipentaerythrit, Tripentaerythrit usw. ein.
- Eine weitere Gruppe verwendbarer synthetischer Schmiermittel umfaßt auf Silikonen basierende Öle wie Polyalkyl-, Polyaryl-, Polyalkoxy- oder Polyaryloxysiloxanöle und Silikatöle (wie Tetraethylsilikat, Tetraisopropylsilikat, Tetra-(2-ethylhexyl)-silikat, Tetra-(4-methyl-2- ethylhexyl)-silikat, Tetra-(p-tert.-butylphenyl)-silikat, Hexyl-(4-methyl-2- pentoxy)-disiloxan, Poly-methyl-siloxane, Poly-methylphenyl-siloxane usw.). Andere synthetische Schmieröle schließen flüssige Ester von Phosphorenthaltenden Säuren (wie Tricresylphosphat, Trioctylphosphat, Diethylester der Decylphosphorsäure usw.), polymere Tetrahydrofurane und ähnliches ein.
- Polyolefinoligomere werden im allgemeinen durch Polymerisation von alpha- Olefinen erhalten. Von alpha-Olefinen verschiedene Olefine können zur Herstellung eines erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren synthetischen Öls oligomerisiert werden. Jedoch diktiert die Reaktivität und Verfügbarkeit von preiswerten alpha-Olefinen deren Auswahl als Oligomerenquelle.
- Die synthetischen Schmieröle auf Basis von Polyolefinoligomeren, die für die vorliegenden Erfindung geeignet sind, schließen Öle auf Kohlenwasserstoffbasis und auf Basis halogensubstituierter Kohlenwasserstoffe ein, wie die polymerisierten und copolymerisierten Olefine, z. B. Oligomere, einschließlich Polybutylene, Polypropylene, Propylen-Isobutylene-Copolymere, chlorierte Polybutylene, Poly(1-hexene), Poly(1-octene), Poly(1-decene), ähnliche Verbindungen und deren Gemische.
- Im allgemeinen wird das Oligomer aus einem Monomer mit etwa 6 bis 18 C- Atomen erhalten. Besonders bevorzugt zur Verwendung als Monomer zur Bildung des Oligomers ist Decen, und insbesondere 1-Decen. Die Nomenklatur alpha-Olefin ist ein Trivialname und die IUPAC Nomenklatur einer 1-en Verbindung kann die gleiche Bedeutung wie in der vorliegenden Erfindung haben.
- Obwohl die Herstellung des Oligomers aus einem alpha-Olefin nicht essentiell ist, ist sie erwünscht. Da normalerweise Verzweigung an der Stelle beobachtet wird, an der die Olefinmonomeren verbunden sind, wird das Oligomer aus einem alpha-Olefin gebildet. Außerdem kann jede weitere Verzweigung im Olefingerüst auch eine Viskositätserhöhung des schließlich erhaltenen Öls bewirken. Es ist auch wünschenwert, daß das aus dem alpha-Olefin hergestellte Polymer hydriert ist. Die Hydrierung des Polymers wird nach bekannnten Methoden durchgeführt. Durch Hydrierung des Polymers wird der Angriff freier Radikale auf nach der Polymerisation verbleibende Allyl-Kohlenstoffatome auf ein Mindestmaß beschränkt.
- Zusätzliche Verbindungen, die gegebenenfalls den auf Kohlenwasserstoffbasierenden Flüssigkeiten zugesetzt werden, sind Viskositätsverbesserer, die in den erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen eingeschlossen sein können. Die Viskositätsindexverbesserer umfassen polymerisierte und copolymerisierte Alkylmethacrylate und gemischte Ester oder Styrol- Maleinsäureanhydrid-Copolymere, die mit Stickstoff-enthaltenden Verbindungen umgesetzt sind.
- Polyisobutenverbindungen werden im allgemeinen auch als Viskositätsindexverbesserer verwendet. Die Menge an Viskositätsverbesserer, die im allgemeinen den kompletten, Schaltgetriebeflüssigkeiten zugesetzt werden kann, ist etwa 1 Gew.-% bis etwa 50 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise etwa 10 Gew.-% bis etwa 25 Gew.-%.
- Zinksalze werden den Schaltgetriebeschmiermitteln ebenfalls zugesetzt. Zinksalze, wie Zinkdithiophosphate, werden im allgemeinen als EP-Additive verwendet. Die Zinksalze werden in einer Menge von etwa 0.02 Gew.-% bis etwa 0.2 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von etwa 0.04 Gew.-% bis etwa 0.15 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Zink, zugesetzt.
- Zusätzliche Inhaltsstoffe, die in einer Getriebeflüssigkeit eingeschlossen sein können, sind Fettsäureamide, die als zusätzlicher Reibungsmodifizierer, insbesondere zur Verringerung des statischen Reibungskoeffizienten geeignet sind. Weitere geeignete hier eingeschlossenen Verbindungen sind Dichtungsquellmittel, wie Sulfone und Sulfolane. Aus der US-PS 4 029,587, erteilt am 14. Juni an Koch, sind geeignete Dichtungsquellmittel bekannt. Eine weitere in der vorliegenden Erfindung geeignete Verbindung ist ein Antischaummittel, wie ein Siliconöl. Jeder andere typische Inhaltsstoff kann ebenfalls eingeschlossen sein, wie Stockpunktverbesserer, Farbstoffe und Duftstoffe.
- Folgende Verbindungen werden im allgemeinen zusätzlich in Getriebeflüssigkeiten, Motorölen oder Hydraulikflüssigkeiten verwendet.
- EP-Additive und Korrosions- und Oxidationsinhibitoren, die in den erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen eingeschlossen sein können, sind beispielsweise chlorierte aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe wie chloriertes Wachs; organische Sulfide und Polysulfide, wie Benzyldisulfid, Bis- (chlorbenzyl)-disulfid, Dibutyltetrasulfid, geschwefelter Methylester der Ölsäure, geschwefeltes Alkylphenol, geschwefeltes Dipenten und bigeschwefeltes Terpen; phosphorgeschwefelte Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie das Reaktionsprodukt eines Phosphorsulfids mit Terpentin oder Ölsäuremethylester; Phosphorester einschließlich Dikohlenwasserstoff- und Trikohlenwasserstoffphosphiten, wie Dibutylphosphit, Diheptylphosphit, Dicyclohexylphosphit, Pentylphenylphosphit, Dipentylphenylphosphit, Tridecylphosphit, Distearylphosphit, Dimethylnaphthylphosphit, Oleyl-4- pentylphenylphosphit, Polypropylen-(Molekulargewicht 500)-substituiertes Phenylphosphit, diisobutylsubstituiertes Phenylphosphit, Metallthiocarbamate, wie Zinkdioctyldithiocarbamat und Bariumheptylphenyldithiocarbamat, Gruppe-II-Metallsalze von Dithiophosphorsäuren wie Zinkdicyclohexyldithiophosphat, Zinkdioctyldithiophosphat, Bariumdi(heptylphenyl)-dithiophosphat, Cadmiumdinonyldithiophosphat und das Zinksalz einer Dithiophosphorsäure, erhältlich aus der Umsetzung von Phosphorpentasulfid mit einem äquimolaren Gemisch aus Isopropanol und n-Hexanol.
- Viele der vorstehend genannten EP-Additive und Korrosions- und Oxidationsinhibitoren dienen auch als Antiverschleißmittel. Zinkdialkyldithiophosphate sind gut bekannte Beispiele.
- In den erfindungsgemäßen Hydraulikflüssigkeiten besonders geeignete Antiverschleißmittel werden aus einer Phosphorsäure der allgemeinen Formel
- (R'O)&sub2;P-S-SH
- bei einer Reaktionstemperatur von etwa 50ºC bis etwa 200ºC, wobei jeder Rest R' unabhängig voneinander ein auf Kohlenwasserstoffgruppen basierender Rest ist, oder deren Phosphorsäurevorstufe, mit mindestens einem Phosphit der allgemeinen Formel
- (R"O)&sub3;P
- hergestellt, wobei der Rest R" ein auf Kohlenwasserstoffgruppen basierender Rest ist. Der Rest R' ist vorzugsweise ein Alkylrest mit etwa 3 bis etwa 50 C-Atomen, und der Rest R" ist vorzugsweise ein aromatischer Rest. Das Salz ist vorzugsweise ein Zinksalz. Das Salz kann auch ein Mischsalz aus mindestens einer genannten Phosphorsäure und mindestens einer Carbonsäure sein. Diese Antiverschleißmittel werden ausführlicher in der US-PS 4,263,150 beschrieben. Diese Antiverschleißmittel sowie die vorstehend beschriebenen Antiverschleißmittel können in den erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen in einer Menge von etwa 0.1 Gew.-% bis etwa 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von etwa 0.25 Gew.-% bis etwa 1 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der genannten Flüssigzusammensetzungen, vorliegen.
- Weitere Oxidationsinhibitoren, wie sterischgehinderte Phenole (z.B. 2,6-Di- (tert.-butyl)-phenol), aromatische Amine (z.B. alkylierte Diphenylamine), Alkylpolysulfide, Selenide, Borate (z.B. Epoxid/Borsäure-Reaktionsprodukte), Dithiophosphorsäure, Ester und/oder Salze, und die Dithiocarbamate (z.B. Zinkdithiocarbamat) sind in den Flüssigkeitszusammensetzungen der Erfindung besonders geeignet. Diese Oxidationsinhibitoren sowie die vorstehend beschriebenen Oxidationsinhibitoren liegen vorzugsweise in den erfindungsgemäßen Flüssigkeiten in einer Menge von etwa 0.05 Gew.-% bis etwa 5 Gew.-%, insbesondere von etwa 0.25 bis etwa 2 Gew.-% vor, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Zusammensetzungen.
- Die in den erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen besonders geeigneten Rostinhibitoren sind Alkenylbernsteinsäuren, -anhydride und -ester, vorzugsweise Tetrapropenylbernsteinsäuren, Säure/Ester und deren Gemische, Metall-(vorzugsweise Calcium und Barium)-sulfonate, die Aminphosphate und die Imidazoline. Diese Rostinhibitoren liegen vorzugsweise in einer Menge von etwa 0.01 Gew.-% bis etwa 5 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt von etwa 0.02 Gew.-% bis etwa 1 Gew.-% vor, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht des Produkts.
- Stockpunktverbesserer können den hier beschriebenen Schmierölen zugesetzt werden. Die Verwendung solcher Stockpunktverbesserer in Ölen zur Steigerung der Tieftemperatureigenschaften ist dem Fachmann bekannt; vgl. beispielsweise C.V. Smalheer und R. Kennedy Smith, "Lubricant Additives", Lezius-Hiles Co., Hrsg., Cleveland, Ohio, 1967, Seite 8.
- Beispiele für Stockpunktverbesserer sind Polymethacrylate, Polyacrylate, Polyacrylamide, Kondensationsprodukte von Halogenparaffinwachsen und aromatischen Verbindungen, Vinylcarboxylatpolymere und Terpolymere von Dialkylfumaraten, Vinylestern von Fettsäuren und Alkylvinylethern.
- Erfindungsgemäß geeignete Stockpunktverbesserer, Verfahren zu deren Herstellung und deren Verwendung sind in folgenden US-Patentschriften beschrieben: 2,387,501, 2,015,748, 2,655,479, 1,815,022, 2,191,498, 2,666,746, 2,721,877, 2,721,878 und 3,250,715.
- Antischaummiftel werden zum Hemmen oder Verhindern der Bildung stabiler Schäume verwendet. Typische Antischaummittel sind Silicone oder organische Polymere. Weitere Antischaummittel sind von Henry T. Kerner, "Foam Control Agents", Noyes Data Corporation, 1976, auf den Seiten 125-162 beschrieben.
- Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Verbindungen werden im allgemeinen in Automatikgetriebeölen, Hydraulikflüssigkeiten, funktionellen Flüssigkeiten oder Schmierölzusammensetzungen in einer Menge von etwa 0.025 Gew.-% bis etwa 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von etwa 0.1 Gew.-% bis etwa 2 Gew.-% verwendet. Da die Produkte der Erfindung oleophil sind, gestaltet sich das Vermischen der Produkte relativ einfach. Ist eine Verwendung der nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Produkte in einer wasserhaltigen Zusammensetzung beabsichtigt, so ist es wünschenswert, daß solche Hilfsstoffe und gegebenenfalls andere Verbindungen mitverwendet werden, um die aktiven Inhaltsstoffe im wäßrigen Präparat stabil zu dispergieren. Wird eine wäßrige Zusammensetzung verwendet, so beträgt im allgemeinen der Wasseranteil bis zu 85%, vorzugsweise bis zu 90%, und der Rest ist der aktive lnhaltstoff der Erfindung und andere Verbindungen, die typischerweise derartigen wäßrigen Präparaten einverleibt werden.
- Die folgenden Beispiele sind erfindungsgemäße Beispiele.
- Ein Reaktionsgefäß wird mit 2 Mol n-Dodecylmercaptan und 400 ml Toluol beschickt. 5 g p-Toluolsulfonsäure als Katalysator werden dem Reaktionsgemisch zugesetzt. Das Reaktionsgemisch wird unter Rückfluß im Stickstoffstrom erhitzt und mit einem Mol Thiodiglykol innerhalb ca. 2 Stunden tropfenweise versetzt. Die Reaktion wird solange weitergeführt, bis kein Wasser mehr entsteht.
- Der Säurekatalysator wird mit 50%-iger wäßriger Lauge neutralisiert und das Lösungsmittel wird bei vermindertem Druck abdestilliert. Das Reaktionsprodukt wird bei 80ºC filtriert. Das Filtrat ist das Produkt.
- Ein Produkt wird aus einem Gemisch von Mercaptanen erhalten. 1 Mol Mercaptobenzthiazol, 1 Mol Dodecylmercaptan und 400 ml Toluol werden in das Reaktionsgefäß eingebracht. Das Reaktionsgemisch wird unter Rückfluß erhitzt und mit 5 Gramm Schwefelsäure als Katalysator versetzt. Die Temperatur wird beibehalten und unter Rühren werden 1 Mol Thiodiglykol innerhalb ca. 2 Stunden in Anteilen zugesetzt. Die Reaktion wird solange weitergeführt, bis kein Wasser mehr entsteht.
- Das Lösungsmittel wird unter vermindertem Druck entfernt und das Produkt wird filtriert. Das Filtrat ist das Produkt.
- Ein Reaktionsgefäß wird mit 2 Mol Thiodiglykol, 2 Mol Thiophenol, 400 ml Toluol und 5 Gramm Schwefelsäure als Katalysator beschickt. Das Reaktionsgemisch wird unter Rückfluß erhitzt und die Reaktion wird solange weitergeführt, bis kein Wasser mehr entsteht.
- Der Säurekatalysator wurde mit 50%-iger wäßriger Lauge neutralisiert und das Lösungsmittel wird unter vermindertem Druck entfernt. Das Produkt wird filtriert. Das Filtrat ist das Produkt.
- Eine Reihe von Automatikgetriebeölen ohne Zusatz der üblichen Antioxidationsmittel wird hergestellt und als Produkt A, B und C bezeichnet. Die drei Produkte (A, B und C) werden jeweils mit 1 Teil des Reaktionsprodukts von Beispiel I bis III versetzt.
- Ein viertes Automatikgetriebeöl D wird hergestellt. Das Produkt D ist das gleiche wie A, jedoch wird 1 Teil eines octylierten Diphenylamins als weiteres Antioxidationsmittel zugesetzt.
- Die Verbindungen der Erfindung sind ausgezeichnete Antioxidationsmittel in den Automatikgetriebeölen. Als weitere Variation der Erfindung wird gemäß Produkt B ein Automatikgetriebeöl hergestellt, wobei die Thiodiglykolverbindung des Antioxidationsmittels durch ein entsprechendes Disulfid ersetzt ist.
Claims (3)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel
R-S-(CH&sub2;CH&sub2;SxCH&sub2;CH&sub2;O)y-CH&sub2;CH&sub2;SxCH&sub2;CH&sub2;-S-R¹
wobei x den Wert 1 oder 2 hat, y den Wert 0 hat oder größer ist, und die
Reste R und R¹ gleich oder verschieden und C&sub2;&submin;&sub2;&sub4;-Hydrocarbylreste sind,
mit der Maßgabe, daß mindestens einer der Reste R und R¹ etwa 5 bis etwa
24 C-Atome enthält,
umfassend die Umsetzung von mindestens einem Äquivalent eines
Mercaptans der allgemeinen Formel RSH und mindestens einem Äquivalent
eines Mercaptans der allgemeinen Formel R¹SH, wobei die Reste R und R¹
gleich oder verschieden und C&sub2;&submin;&sub2;&sub4;-Hydrocarbylreste sind, mit der Maßgabe,
daß mindestens einer der Reste R und R¹ etwa 5 bis 24 C-Atome enthält, mit
mindestens zwei Äquivalenten eines β-Thiodialkanols ausgewählt aus der
Gruppe Thiodiglykol, Dithiodiglykol und deren Gemischen.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei RSH und R¹SH gleich sind.
3. Verfahren nach Anspuch 1 oder 2, wobei mehr β-Thiodialkanol-
Äquivalente als Mercaptan-Äquivalente vorliegen.
