Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung öllöslicher oder in Öl dispergierbarer Metallverbindungen zur Verzögerung der durch Ruß auftretenden Erhöhung der Viskositätsrate eines Schmiermittels für Dieselmotoren.
- Schmiermittel, insbesondere für Dieselmotoren mit niederer Drehzahl und hohem Drehmoment, erleiden über die Zeit einen Viskositätszuwachs. Dieser Viskositätszuwachs wird durch das allmähliche Einsetzen eines Viskositätsanstiegs im Dieselmotor-Schmiermittel deutlich und dadurch, daß die Rate der Viskositätserhöhung mit der Zeit beschleunigt wird. Schließlich wird die Viskositätszunahme so hoch, daß der Ölfluß im Motor vermindert ist.
- Ein zweiter Faktor ist, daß das Schmiermittel im Sumpf allmählich eindickt und nicht mehr zur Schmierung zur Verfügung steht. Wenn das eingedickte Schmiermittel den Ölpumpeneinlaß nicht passieren kann, resultiert ein Motorschaden.
- Somit führt der Viskositätszuwachs zu einem unerwünschten Verschleiß des Motors, insbesondere in der Kälte. Die wichtigste vorbeugende Maßnahme zur Vermeidung von Schäden durch übermäßigen Viskositätszuwachs ist, eine kleine Menge Öl aus dem Sumpf abzulassen und die Viskosität des Schmiermittels zu messen. Dabei entsteht das Problem, das richtige Zeitintervall zur Prüfung des Sumpfes zu bestimmen. Wird die Rate der Viskositätsänderung beschleunigt, so müssen die Prüfintervalle der Schmiermittelviskosität in kürzeren Abständen erfolgen, um sicherzustellen, daß kein Motorschaden auftritt.
- Aus der Veröffentlichung von Covitch, Humphrey und Ripple, "Oil Thickening in the Mack T-7 Engine Test", SAE Fuels and Lubricants Meeting, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 23. Oktober 1985, ist bekannt, daß verschiedene Verbindungen einem Dieselmotorschmiermittel zugesetzt werden können, um die Eindickung des Öls einzuschränken. Darin wird mitgeteilt, daß sich Ruß, der als Produkt bei der unvollständigen Verbrennung in Dieselmotoren gebildet wird, im Schmieröl sammelt. Die Anwesenheit von Ruß im Kurbelgehäuse steht im Zusammenhang mit der Viskositätserhöhung und der Viskositätsratenerhöhung in den Schmiermitteln.
- Aus der US-PS-4816038, EP-A-238632 ist bekannt, daß verschiedene Metall komplexe von Mannichbasen von Übergangsmetallen in Brenn- und Treibstoffen verwendet werden können. Zusätzlich kann eine Schiff-Base einverleibt werden. Aus der US-PS-4664677, EP-A-159333 ist bekannt, daß zur Verringerung der Entzündungstemperatur von Abgasteilchen aus Dieselmotoren Gemische von manganhaltigen Salzen und Kohlenwasserstoff-lösliche, kupferhaltige Salze als Brenn- und Treibstoffadditive verwendet werden können.
- Aus der AU-P-591710 sind Dieselmotorschmiermittel bekannt, die als Additive Alkalimetallsalze enthalten, um unerwünschte Viskositätserhöhungen in Dieselmotoren auf ein Mindestmaß zu beschränken. Darin werden weiterhin Dispersants beschrieben, die in Schmiermittel für Dieselmotorkurbelgehäuse verwendet werden. Aus der Au-A-578726 sind Übergangsmetall-haltige, kohlenwasserstoff-lösliche Zusammensetzungen bekannt, die aschefreie Dispersants und phenolische Antioxidationsmittel enthalten.
- Aus der Reissue US-PS 29,661 ist eine Testzusammensetzung bekannt, die ein neutrales, raffiniertes SAE Öl umfaßt, das ein Succinimid-Dispersant, Calciumphenate und als Oxidationskatalysator eine Lösung von Metallnaphthenaten in Kerosin, einschließlich Kupfer, Eisen, Zinn, Mangan und Blei enthält. Der Grund für den Metalleinschluß ist dabei, die Oxidation des Öls als ein Teil des Tests zur Bestimmung der Effektivität des verwendeten Dispersants rasch zu erhöhen.
- Aus der US-PS 4,529,408 ist bekannt, daß durch Einverleiben eines Metalls in Kohle in einer Menge von einigen Teilen pro 1000 Teile deren Verbrennung verbessert, Asche-Korrosion modifiziert und Oberflächenverschmutzung und Ascheverschlackung vermindert werden kann. Die darin vorgeschlagenen Materialien schließen Mangandioxid, Eisenoxid, Manganknollen, Sand und deren Gemische ein.
- Aus der US-PS 4,411,774 ist bekannt, daß Abfallöl verschiedene Metalle in Konzentrationen im ppm-Bereich enthält, wie Zinn, Blei, Kupfer, Aluminium, Eisen, Chrom, Zink, Magnesium, Nickel, Barium, Natrium, Calcium, Vanadium, Molybdän, Bor und Mangan. Das Abfallöl kann auch Silicium, Phosphor und möglicherweise Silber enthalten.
- Aus der US-PS 4,049,562 ist bekannt, daß die Anti-Oxidationsaktivität eines Öls durch die Anwesenheit einer Lösung von Naphthenaten von Kupfer, Eisen, Mangan, Blei und Chrom geprüft werden kann. Außerdem wird erwartet, daß diese Metallverteilung in einem verwendeten Kurbelgehäuseöl eines Dieselmotors gefunden wird.
- Aus der US-PS 4,122,033 sind verschiedene Übergangsmetalle als Oxidationsinhibitoren bekannt. Aus der US-PS 3,652,616 sind Brenn- und Treibstoff- und Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen bekannt, die Metalle wie Zink, Mangan, Chrom, Kupfer, Kobalt, Vanadium, Titan, Molybdän, Silber, Cadmium, Wolfram oder Quecksilber enthalten. Aus der EP-A-0024 146 ist die Verwendung von Kupfer als Antioxidationsmittel in Schmiermitteln bekannt.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem Befund, daß verhältnismäßig kleine Mengen bestimmter Übergangsmetalle in einer öllöslichen Form in einer Dieselmotor-Schmiermittelzusammensetzung verwendet werden können, um im wesentlichen die durch Ruß auftretende Viskositätserhöhung und die Viskositätsratenerhöhung (erheblich) zu vermindern. Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Zusammensetzungen sind in Dieselölen, die einer raschen Viskositätszunahme ausgesetzt sind, besonders wirkungsvoll.
- Wenn nicht anders angegeben, beziehen sich in der Beschreibung und in den Ansprüchen die Prozentangaben und die Anteile auf das Gewicht. Die Temperaturen sind in ºC angegeben.
- Die Erfindung betrifft somit die Verwendung einer öllöslichen oder in Öl dispergierbaren Metallverbindung, wobei das Metall ausgewählt ist aus Mangan, Titan, Kobalt und deren Gemischen, zur Verzögerung der durch Ruß auftretenden Erhöhung der Viskositätsrate eines Schmiermittels in einem Diselmotor-Schmiermittelsystem, das zur Rußbildung neigt, wobei die Metallverbindungen als Metall in einer Menge von 30ppm bis 500ppm des Schmiermittels vorliegen.
- Verschiedene bevorzugte Merkmale und Ausführungsformen der Erfindung werden nun an Hand nicht einschränkender Beispiele beschrieben.
- Erfindungsgemäß wird also eine Zusammensetzung verwendet, die eine mehrwertige Metallverbindung und ein Dieselmotor-Schmieröl umfaßt. Die Metallverbindung schließt organische und anorganische Verbindungen des Mangans, Titans, Kobalts und deren Gemische ein.
- Vorzugsweise enthält die metallische Verbindung Mangan oder Titan. Außerdem werden hier auch Metallphenate, -salicylate,-phosphonate, - dithiocarbamate und -naphthenate verwendet. Die Metallnaphthenate sind bevorzugt.
- Beispiele für anorganische Metallverbindungen sind Oxide, Hydroxide und Carbonate. Organische und anorganische Metallverbindungen werden erfindungsgemäß auch als Gemische verwendet. Die verwendete Metallmenge sollte ausreichen, um die Viskositätsratenerhöhung zwischen 100 und 150 Stunden im Mack T-7 Test zu verzögern. Der Anstieg der Viskositätsratenerhöhung sollte während des 100 bis 150 Stundenintervalls einen Wert von weniger als 0.1, vorzugsweise weniger als 0.08 haben.
- Bevorzugt verwendete organische Metallverbindungen sind Salze von mindestens einer organischen Säure. Werden Gemische aus organischen und anorganischen Metallverbindungen verwendet, ist es sehr erwünscht, daß eine organische Metallverbindung eingesetzt wird, die zur Dispergierung der Metallverbindung im Schmiermittel beiträgt.
- Organische Säuren, die zur Herstellung der organischen Metallverbindungen verwendet werden, sind Carbonsäuren, insbesondere solche mit 1 bis 30 C- Atomen, Sulfonsäuren, insbesondere solche mit einer aromatischen Ringstruktur (z. B. Benzolring), substituiert mit einer oder mehreren Alkylgruppen mit 4 bis etwa 30 C-Atomen, und Phosphorsäuren, die in ihrer Struktur eine oder mehrere organische Gruppen mit 1 bis etwa 30 oder mehr C-Atomen enthalten. Vorzugsweise ist die organische Säure ein Gemisch aus organischen Säuren, die durchschnittlich mindestens 7 C- Atome, vorzugsweise etwa 4 bis etwa 30, insbesondere 6 bis 30 C-Atome pro Carboxylgruppe enthalten.
- Solche Carbonsäuren, Sulfonsäuren und Phosphorsäuren sind bekannt. Die Carbonsäuren können Mono- oder Polycarbonsäuren (bei Verwendung der zu letztgenannten, dann typischerweise die Di- oder Tricarbonsäuren) sein.
- Monocarbonsäuren schließen sowohl niedere C&sub1;&submin;&sub7;-Carbonsäuren (z. B. Essigsäure, Propionsäure) und höhere C&sub8;&sbplus;-Säuren (z. B. Octansäure, Decansäure), als auch Fettsäuren mit etwa 12 bis 30 C-Atomen ein. Die Neo-Säuren, wie Neooctansäure und Neodecansäure, können ebenfalls verwendet werden.
- Die Fettsäuren sind häufig Gemische aus geraden und verzweigten Carbonsäuren, z. B. mit 5 Mol-% bis etwa 30 Mol-% geradkettigen Säuren und etwa 70 Mol-% bis etwa 95 Mol-% verzweigten Säuren. Andere technische Fettsäuregemische, die höhere Anteile von geradkettigen Säuren enthalten, werden auch verwendet. Gemische aus der Dimerisierung von ungesättigten Fettsäuren können auch verwendet werden.
- Höhere Carbonsäuren schließen die bekannten Dicarbonsäuren ein, die durch Alkylierung von Maleinsäureanhydrid oder deren Derivaten hergestellt werden. Die Produkte derartiger Umsetzungen sind kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierte Bernsteinsäuren, -anhydride und ähnliche. Dicarbonsäuren mit niederem Molekulargewicht, wie Polymethylen-verbrückte Säuren (wie Glutarsäure und Adipinsäure) können ebenfalls zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallsalze verwendet werden, ferner die substituierten Bernsteinsäuren mit niederem Molekulargewicht, wie Tetrapropenylbernsteinsäure und deren Analoga bis etwa C&sub3;&sub0;-substituierte Säuren.
- Substituierte Bernsteinsäureanhydride mit höherem Molekulargewicht, Säuren und Analoga, die zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallsalze verwendet werden, sind in einer Vielzahl von Patentschriften beschrieben, insbesondere solchen, die als Dispersant verwendete acylierte Verbindungen betreffen. Typische Säuren mit hohem Molekulargewicht werden durch Umsetzung einer Polyisobuten-Fraktion mit 30 bis 400 C- Atomen (meist 50 bis 250) mit Maleinsäureanhydrid hergestellt. Derartige Verbindungen sind in den US-PSen 3,172 892, 3,219 666 und 3,272 746 beschrieben. Andere Monocarbonsäuren mit ähnlichem Molekulargewicht können durch Alkylierung von Acrylsäure und deren Analoga hergestellt werden. Gemische derartiger Säuren können auch verwendet werden.
- Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallverbindungen können auch aus Carbonsäuren und sauren Hydroxyverbindungen, wie alkylierten Phenolen, hergestellt werden. Derartige Verbindungen sind in der US-PS 4,100,082, insbesondere in den Spalten 15 bis 17, beschrieben.
- Typischerweise sind die zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallsalze benutzen organischen Säuren Carbonsäuren, Sulfonsäuren oder deren Gemische, oder Verbindungen mit beiden funktionellen Gruppen.
- Die Sulfonsäuren, die zur Herstellung der Metallverbindungen verwendet werden, schließen aliphatische Sulfonsäuren ein. Beispiele derartiger Sulfonsäuren sind Mahagonisulfonsäuren, Sulfonsäuren aus raffinierten Rückstandsfraktionen (aus bright stock), Sulfonsäuren aus Schmierölfraktionen mit einer Saybolt-Viskosität von etwa 100 Sekunden bei 37ºC bis etwa 200 Sekunden bei 99ºC, Sulfonsäuren aus Rohvaselin (Petrolatum), mono- und poly-Wachs-substituierte Sulfon- und Polysulfonsäuren von z. B. Benzol, Naphthalin, Phenol, Diphenylether, Naphthalindisulfid, Diphenylamin, Thiophen, alpha-Chlornaphthalin usw., andere substituierte Sulfonsäuren, wie Alkylbenzolsulfonsäuren (wobei die Alkylgruppe mindestens 8 C-Atome besitzt), Cetylphenyl-monosulfidsulfonsäuren, Dicetylthianthren-disulfonsäuren, Dilaurylbetanaphthylsulfonsäuren, Dicaprylnitronaphthalinsulfonsäuren und Alkarylsulfonsäuren, wie Dodecylbenzol-(Sumpf)-sulfonsäuren. Dodecylbenzol-(Sümpfe) sind hauptsächlich Gemische aus Mono- und Didodecylbenzolen.
- Die aliphatischen Sulfonsäuren schließen Paraffinwachssulfonsäuren, ungesättigte Paraffinwachssulfonsäuren, hydroxysubstituierte Paraffinwachssulfonsäuren, Hexapropylensulfonsäuren, Tetraamylensulfonsäuren, Polyisobutensulfonsäuren, worin der Polyisobutenrest 20 bis 7000 oder mehr C-Atome enthält, Chlorsubstituierte Paraffinwachssulfonsäuren und Nitroparaffinwachssulfonsäuren, cycloaliphatische Sulfonsäuren, wie Petroleum-naphthen-sulfonsäuren, Cetylcyclopentylsulfonsäuren, Laurylcyclohexylsulfonsäuren, Bis-(di-isobutyl)-cyclohexyl-sulfonsäuren und mono- oder poly- Wachs- substituierte Cyclohexylsulfonsäuren ein.

- Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallsalze können auch aus Phosphorsäuren hergestellt werden. Derartige Phosphorsäuren sind aus einer Reihe von US-Patentschriften und aus der Literatur bekannt. Beispielsweise beschreibt die US-PS 4,191,658 Phosphorsäuresalze der allgemeinen Formel (I)
- in der M das zuvor genannte Metall oder Metallgemisch ist, jeder Rest R¹ und R² ein Kohlenwasserstoffrest, jeder Rest X¹, X², X³ und X&sup4; ein Sauerstoff- oder Schwefelatom ist, und a und b den Wert 0 oder 1 haben.
- Die aus organischen Säuren hergestellten Salze können durch Umsetzung der organischen Säure mit dem Metall, vorzugsweise Mangan, wie Manganoxid, Manganhydroxid oder Mangancarbonat, hergestellt werden.
- Ein besonders bevorzugtes Verfahren zur Herstellung der Metallverbindung verläuft über überalkalisierte Salze. Überalkalisierte Salze sind Salze von organischen Säuren, die mehr Metall enthalten, als zum Neutralisieren der vorliegenden Säure nötig ist. Mit anderen Worten, sie enthalten pro Äquivalent des Säurerestes mehr als ein Äquivalent Metall. Derartige Salze sind aus den US-Patentschriften 3,827,979, 3,312,618, 2,616,904, 2,616,905, 2,595,790 und 3,725,441 bekannt. Überalkalisierte Mangan- und Kupfersalze von organischen Säuren sind aus den US-Patentschriften 2,695,910 und 4,162,986 bekannt.
- Erfindungsgemäß besonders bevorzugt sind Kohlenwasserstoff-lösliche Mangansalze von organischen Säuren. Stark überalkalisierte organische Manganmetallzusammensetzungen umfassen einen Manganoxid-hydroxydcarboxylat-Komplex, wobei der Metallgehalt teilweise mit Sauerstoff in einem mehrkernigen Metalloxidkristallkern und teilweise mit mindestens zwei unterschiedlichen Monocarbonsäuren oder einem Gemisch aus einer oder mehreren Monocarbon- und Monosulfonsäuren mit mindestens zwei C- Atomen als Hydroxy-metallcarboxylat und Hydroxy-metallsulfonatreste enthalten, chemisch verknüpft ist; vgl. z. B. US-PS 4,191,658.
- Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Metallverbindungen sind kohlenwasserstoff-lösliche Verbindungen. Der hier verwendete Ausdruck "kohlenwasserstoff-löslich" wird zur Bezeichnung von Verbindungen verwendet, die in normalerweise flüssigen Kohlenwasserstoffen löslich oder stabil dipergierbar sind. Der hier verwendete Ausdruck "stabil dispergierbar" bedeutet, daß die Zusammensetzung in dem Schmiermittel bis zu einem Gehalt dispergiert werden kann, um dadurch die gewünschte Funktion zu erfüllen. Somit ist z. B. eine Zusammensetzung kohlenwasserstoff-löslich, wenn sie in einem Schmieröl suspendiert werden kann, und dadurch das Öl die Funktion eines Schmiermittel übernehmen kann.
- Die Kombination des Öls, der Metallverbindung und gegebenenfalls eines Dispersants kann in üblicher Weise erreicht werden. Gemische aus Mangan und Titan, Mangan und Kobalt, Titan und Kobalt werden auch verwendet. Metall-Molverhältnisse der zuvor genannten binären Kombinationen, erstes Metall zu zweitem Metall, sind etwa 15 : 1 bis 1 : 15, vorzugsweise etwa 10 : 1 bis 1 : 10.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung befaßt sich auch mit der Verwendung weiterer Additive. Solche Additive schließen z. B. Detergents und Dispersants des aschebildenden oder des aschefreien Typs ein.
- Beispiele für aschebildende Detergents sind öllösliche, neutrale und basische Alkali- oder Erdalkalimetallsalze von Sulfonsäuren, Carbonsäuren oder organischen Phosphorsäuren, die mindestens eine direkte Kohlenstoff- Phosphorbindung aufweisen, wie das Produkt der Umsetzung eines Olefinpolymers (wie Polyisobuten mit einem Molekulargewicht von 1000) mit einem phosphorierenden Agens, wie Phosphortrichlorid, Phosphorpentasulfid, Phosphorheptasulfid, Phosphortrichlorid und Schwefel, weißem Phosphor und ein Schwefelhalogenid oder Phosphorthiochlorid. Die am häufigsten verwendeten Salze dieser Säuren sind die Natrium-, Kalium-, Lithium-, Calcium-, Magnesium-, Strontium-, und Bariumsalze.
- Der Ausdruck "basisches Salz" wird zur Bezeichnung von Metallsalzen verwendet, in denen das Metall in stöchiometrisch größeren Mengen vorliegt als der organische Säurerest. Die allgemein angewendeten Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser basischen Salze beinhalten das Erhitzen einer Mineralöllösung der Säure mit einem stöchiometrischen Überschuß eines metallischen Neutralisierungsmittels, wie einem Metalloxid, -hydroxid, -carbonat, -bicarbonat oder -sulfid, auf Temperaturen von etwa 50ºC und Filtrieren des erhaltenen Produkts.
- Die Verwendung eines "Promoters" im Neutralisierungsschritt zur Verbesserung des Einbaus eines großen Metallüberschusses ist ebenfalls bekannt. Beispiele für verwendbare Promotoren sind phenolische Verbindungen, wie Phenol, Naphthole, Alkylphenole, Thiophenol, geschwefelte Alkylphenole und Kondensationsprodukte von Formaldehyd mit einem Phenol, Alkohole, wie Methanol, 2-Propanol, Octanol, Cellosolve, Carbitol, Ethylenglykol, Stearylalkohol und Cyclohexanol, und Amine, wie Anilin, Phenylendiamin, Phenothiazin, Phenyl-β-naphthylamin und Dodecylamin. Ein besonders wirksames Verfahren zur Herstellung der basischen Salze umfaßt das Mischen einer Säure mit einem Überschuß an basischem Erdalkalimetall-Neutralisierungsmittel und mindestens einem Alkohol-Promoter und Carbonisierung des Gemisches bei höherer Temperatur (z. B. 60 bis 200ºC).
- Aschefreie Detergents und Dispersants werden so genannt, obwohl das Dispersant abhängig von seiner Konstitution bei der Verbrennung auch nichtflüchtiges Material hervorbringen kann, wie Boroxid oder Phosphorpentoxid; es enthält gewöhnlich aber kein Metall und erzeugt somit bei der Verbrennung keine metallhaltige Asche. Viele Arten von aschefreien Detergents und Dispersants sind dem Fachmann bekannt, jedes kann in den Schmiermitteln der vorliegenden Erfindung verwendet werden. Dies wird nachstehend erläutert:
- (1) Die Reaktionsprodukte von Carbonsäuren (oder deren Derivate), die mindestens etwa 30 und vorzugsweise mindestens etwa 50 C-Atome enthalten, mit Stickstoff enthaltenden Verbindungen wie Aminen, organischen Hydroxyverbindungen, wie Phenolen und Alkoholen, und/oder basischen, anorganischen Komponenten. - Wie vorstehend beschrieben betrifft die Erfindung Additive für Dieselmotor- Schmiermittel. Im allgemeinen umfassen die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen als Hauptbestandteil ein Öl mit Schmierviskosität und eine geringere Menge der Manganverbindung oder einer anderen Metallverbindung.
- Der hier verwendete Ausdruck "geringere Menge" bedeutet, daß diese "geringere Menge" eines spezifischen Materials mit weniger als 50 Gew.-% in den Zusammensetzungen enthalten ist.
- Der hier verwendete Ausdruck "Hauptbestandteil" bedeutet, daß als "Hauptbestandteil" ein spezifisches Material mit einer Menge von mehr als 50 Gew.-% in den Zusammensetzungen enthalten ist.
- Die Menge der Metallverbindung, die dem Schmieröl in der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Zusammensetzung zugesetzt ist, stellt in den behandelten Schmiermittel-Zusammensetzungen 30 ppm bis 500 ppm Metall bereit, vorzugsweise 35 ppm bis 350 ppm Metall, insbesondere 40 ppm bis 150 ppm Metall, bezogen auf das Gewicht der Zusammensetzung.
- Das Öl mit Schmierviskosität, das zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Dieselmotor-Schmiermittel verwendet wird, kann auf natürlichen Ölen, synthetischen Ölen oder deren Gemischen basieren.
- Natürliche Öle schließen tierische und pflanzliche Öle (z. B. Rizinusöl und Specköl) wie auch Mineralschmieröle, wie flüssige Mineralöle und mit Lösungsmitteln oder Säuren behandelte Mineralschmieröle des Paraffin-, Naphthen- oder gemischten Paraffin-Naphthentyps, ein. Öle mit Schmierviskosität, die aus Kohle oder Schiefer gewonnen werden, sind auch verwendbar. Synthetische Schmieröle schließen ein Kohlenwasserstofföle und halogensubstituierte Kohlenwasserstofföle, wie polymerisierte und copolymerisierte Olefine (wie Polybutene, Polypropylene, Propen-Isobuten- Copolymere, chlorierte Polybutene, Poly-(1-hexene), Poly-(1-octene), Poly- (1-decene) usw. und Gemische davon); Alkylbenzole (wie Dodecylbenzole, Tetradecylbenzole, Dinonylbenzole, Di-(2-ethylhexyl)-benzole usw.); Polyphenyle (wie Biphenyl, Terphenyle, alkylierte Polyphenyle usw.), alkylierte Diphenylether und alkylierte Diphenylsulfide usw., sowie deren Derivate, Analoga, Homologe und ähnliche.
- Eine weitere Gruppe bekannter verwendbarer synthetischer Schmieröle sind Alkylenoxidpolymere und -copolymere sowie deren Derivate, in denen die terminalen Hydroxylgruppen durch Veresterung, Veretherung usw. modifiziert sind. Beispiele sind Öle, die durch Polymerisation von Ethylenoxid oder Propylenoxid hergestellt sind, die Alkyl- und Arylether dieser Polyoxyalkenpolymere (wie Methyl-polyisopropylenglykolether mit einem mittleren Molekulargewicht von 1000, Diphenylether aus Polyethylenglykol mit einem Molekulargewicht von 500 bis 1000, Diethylether aus Polypropylenglykol mit einem Molekulargewicht von 1000 bis 1500 usw.) oder Mono- und Polycarbonsäureester daraus, wie Essigsäureester, gemischte C&sub3;-C&sub8;-Fettsäureester oder die C&sub1;&sub3;- Oxosäurediester des Tetraethylenglykols.
- Eine weitere geeignete Gruppe verwendbarer synthetischer Schmieröle umfaßt die Ester von Dicarbonsäuren (wie Phthalsäure, Bernsteinsäure, Alkylbernsteinsäuren und Alkenylbernsteinsäuren, Maleinsäure, Azelainsäure, Korksäure, Sebazinsäure, Fumarsäure, Adipinsäure, das Dimer der Linolsäure, Malonsäure, Alkylmalonsäuren, Alkenylmalonsäuren usw.) mit den verschiedensten Alkoholen (wie Butanol, Hexanol, Dodecanol, 2- Ethylhexanol, Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglykolmonoether, Propylenglykol usw.). Spezielle Beispiele dieser Ester sind Dibutyladipat, Di-(2-ethylhexyl)sebazat, Di-n-hexylfumarat, Dioctylsebazat, Diisooctylazelat, Diisodecylazelat, Dioctylphthalat, Didecylphthalat, Dieicosylsebazat, der 2- Ethylhexyldiester des Linolsäuredimers, den komplexen Ester aus der Reaktion von einem Mol Sebazinsäure mit zwei Mol Tetraethylenglykol und zwei Mol 2-Ethylhexansäure usw.
- Für synthetische Öle verwendbare Ester schließen auch solche aus C&sub5; bis C&sub1;&sub2;-Monocarbonsäuren und Polyolen und Polyolethern wie Neopentylglykol, Trimethylolpropan, Pentaerythrit, Dipentaerythrit, Tripentaerythrit usw. ein.
- Eine weitere Gruppe verwendbarer synthetischer Schmiermittel umfaßt auf Silikonen basierende Öle wie Polyalkyl-, Polyaryl-, Polyalkoxy- oder Polyaryloxysiloxanöle und Silikatöle (wie Tetraethylsilikat, Tetraisopropylsilikat, Tetra-(2-ethylhexyl)-silikat, Tetra-(4-methyl-hexyl)silikat, Tetra-(p-tert-butylphenyl)-silikat, Hexyl-(4-methyl-2-pentoxy)disiloxan, Polymethylsiloxane, Polymethylphenylsiloxane usw.). Andere synthetische Schmieröle schließen flüssige Ester von Phosphor-enthaltenden Säuren (wie Tricresylphosphat, Trioctylphosphat, Diethylester der Decylphosphonsäure usw.), sowie polymere Tetrahydrofurane und ähnliches ein.
- In der vorliegenden Erfindung können nicht raffinierte, raffinierte und reraffinierte Öle sowie natürliche oder synthetische Öle (und Gemische von zwei oder mehreren Ölen) der vorstehend genannten Typen verwendet werden. Nicht-raffinierte Öle sind solche Öle, die direkt aus einer natürlichen oder synthetischen Quelle ohne weitere Reinigungsschritte gewonnen werden. Ein nicht-raffiniertes Öl wäre beispielsweise ein direkt durch Erhitzen erhaltenes Schieferöl, ein direkt aus der Destillation erhaltenes Mineralöl oder ein direkt aus einer Veresterungsreaktion erhaltenes Esteröl, welches ohne weitere Verarbeitung verwendet wird.
- Raffinierte Öle gleichen den nicht-raffinierten Ölen, mit dem Unterschied, daß sie in einem oder mehreren Reinigungsschritten weiterbehandelt wurden, um eine oder mehrere Eigenschaften zu verbessern. Viele dieser Reinigungstechniken sind dem Fachmann bekannt, wie Flüssig-Flüssig- Extraktion, Nachdestillation, Hydrobehandlung, Hydrokracken, Säuren- oder Basenextraktion, Filtration, Perkolation usw.
- Reraffinierte Öle werden aus Prozessen erhalten, die denen der einfachen Raffination ähneln, und auf raffinierte Öle, die bereits in Verwendung waren, angewendet werden. Solche reraffinierten Öle sind auch als regenerierte oder aufbereitete Öle bekannt und werden oft zusätzlichen Verfahrenschritten unterworfen, um verbrauchte Additive und Ölzersetzungsprodukte zu entfernen.
- Besonders bevorzugt leitet sich das hier verwendete Öl von einem Mineralöl ab. Gleichzeitig werden die größten Wirkungen der hier verwendeten verschiedenen Metalle in Ölen gefunden, die sich von einem Mineralöl ableiten.
- Der Wirkung der durch Ruß auftretenden Erhöhung der Viskosität und der Viskositätsrate eines Schmiermittels kann durch regelmäßige Zugabe von frischen Schmiermittelanteilen, die mit den erfindungsgemäßen Metallverbindungen behandelt wurden, verzögert werden. Somit kann ein am Anfang (Metall)-unbehandeltes Schmiermittel bei Verwendung eines behandelten Schmiermittels beim Ölwechsel diese Vorteile genießen. Die Metallverbindung kann auch zusammen mit einem Verdünnungsöl dem Kurbelgehäuse zugesetzt werden, wobei die Metallverbindung in einem Überschuß von 1 bis 25 (als Metall) gegenüber dem Metallgehalt in einem normalen Öl vorliegt. Auf diese Weise wird in einem Dieselmotor- Kurbelgehäuse, das 20 bis 25 Liter eines unbehandelten Öls enthält, durch Zusetzen von bereits einem Liter Additiv das richtige Niveau an Metallverbindung erreicht.
- Das Schmieröl wird erfindungsgemäß typischerweise in einer Menge von 75 Gew.-% bis 99.5 Gew.-% der Zusammensetzung, vorzugsweise von etwa 80 Gew.-% bis etwa 99 Gew.-% verwendet. Die Verdünnungsöle (Schmiermittel), die als verschiedene Additive vorliegen, sind in den vorstehenden Mengen eingeschlossen. Das vorstehend beschriebene Dispersant wird im allgemeinen in einer Menge von 0.05 Gew.-% bis 20 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise von 0.1 Gew.-% bis 15 Gew.-% der Zusammensetzung verwendet.
- Die hier verwendeten Dieselmotor-Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen enthalten vorzugsweise im wesentlichen kein Blei, Eisen, Aluminium oder Zinn in irgendeiner Form. Die Abwesenheit der vorstehenden Metalle ist erwünscht, weil sie Metalle oder Materialien verschleißen, die normalerweise einen Teil des Motors umfassen. Die Anwesenheit von Verschleiß-Metallen während der Analyse durch ein Fahrzeugparkbesitzer zeigt gewöhnlich ein Motorverschleißproblem an. Somit ist es wünschenswert, wenn Verschleiß-Metalle nicht in den Schmiermitteln vorliegen, da derartige Metalle die Genauigkeit der analytischen Meßmethoden zum Nachweisen von Verschleißerscheinungen verringert. Die als nicht wünschenswert beschriebenen Metalle können auch als Oxidationskatalysator wirken, wodurch das Öl oxidiert und dadurch vorzeitiger Ölwechsel erforderlich wird.
- Die Gesamtbasenzahl des Dieselmotor-Schmiermittels liegt typischerweise zwischen 0 und 25, vorzugsweise zwischen 1 und 15. Die Gesamtbasenzahl zeigt an, daß das Schmiermittel in der Lage ist, den Wechseln aufgrund des Säurezuwachses standzuhalten. Säurezuwachs verursacht erhöhte Korrosion und eine höhere Basenzahl entspricht einem Widerstand gegenüber Säurezuwachs.
- In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform enthalten die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Dieselmotor-Schmiermittel auch mindestens ein öllösliches neutrales oder basisches Erdalkalimetallsalz mindestens einer sauren organischen Verbindung. Derartige Salze werden im allgemeinen als aschebildende Detergents bezeichnet. Die saure organische Verbindung kann mindestens eine Schwefelsäure, Carbonsäure, Phosphorsäure, ein Phenol, Salicylat oder deren Gemische sein.
- Calcium, Magnesium und Barium sind bevorzugte Erdalkalimetalle. Es können Salze verwendet werden, die ein Gemisch aus zwei oder mehreren dieser Erdalkalimetallkationen enthalten. Diese Salze können neutral oder basisch sein. Die neutralen Salze enthalten Erdalkalimetalle in einer Menge, die ausreicht, um die sauren Gruppen im Anionteil zu neutralisieren. Die basischen Salze enthalten einen Überschuß an Erdalkalimetallkationen.
- Die Menge an Erdalkalimetallsalz in den erfindungsgemäßen Dieselmotor- Schmiermitteln kann in einem weiten Bereich variieren, und die geeigneten Mengen können vom Fachmann leicht bestimmt werden. Das Salz kann als Hilfs- oder Zusatz-Detergens wirken. Die Menge an erfindungsgemäßem Erdalkalimetallsalz-Dieselmotor-Schmiermittel kann etwa 0 Gew.-% bis etwa 5 Gew.-% oder mehr, vorzugsweise 0.5 Gew.-% bis 4 Gew.-% der Zusammensetzung betragen.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft auch die Verwendung anderer Additive in Dieselmotor-Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen. Diese anderen Additive schließen übliche Additive ein wie Antioxidationsmittel, EP-Additive, Korrosionsinhibitoren, Stockpunktverbesserer, Farbstabilisatoren, Antischaummittel und andere dem Fachmann bekannte Additive zur Herstellung von Dieselmotor-Schmiermitteln. Werden Antioxidationsmittel verwendet, so sind Antioxidationsmittel vom Amin-Typ, wie alkylierte Arylamine bevorzugt. Vorzugsweise werden sterisch gehinderte tert.-butyl.- Phenole nicht verwendet. Werden sie verwendet, so sollten sie zusammen mit einem zweiten Antioxidationmittel verwendet werden.
- EP-Additive und Korrosions- und Oxidationsinhibitoren sind beispielsweise chlorierte aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie chloriertes Wachs; organische Sulfide und Polysulfide, wie Benzyldisulfid, Bis-(chlorbenzyl)disulfid, Dibutyltetrasulfid, geschwefelte Ölsäuremethylester, geschwefeltes Alkylphenol, geschwefeltes Dipenten und geschwefeltes Terpen, phosphorgeschwefelte Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie das Reaktionsprodukt eines Phosphorsulfids mit Terpentin oder Ölsäuremethylester; Phosphorester einschließlich Dikohlenwasserstoff- und Trikohlenwasserstoffphosphiten, wie Dibutylphosphit, Diheptylphosphit, Dicyclohexylphosphit, Pentylphenylphosphit, Dipentylphenylphosphit, Tridecylphosphit, Distearylphosphit, Dimethylnaphthylphosphit, Oleyl-4-pentylphenylphosphit, Polypropylen-(Molekulargewicht 500)-substituiertes Phenylphosphit, diisobutylsubstituiertes Phenylphosphit, Metall-thiocarbamate, wie Zinkdioctyldithiocarbamat und Bariumheptylphenyldithiocarbamat, Gruppe-II- Metallsalze von Dithiophosphorsäuren, wie Zinkdicyclohexyldithiophosphat, Zinkdioctyldithiophosphat, Bariumdi-(heptylphenyl)-dithiophosphat, Cadmiumdinonyldithiophosphat und das Zinksalz einer Dithiophosphorsäure aus der Umsetzung von Phosphorpentasulfid mit einem äquimolaren Gemisch aus Isopropanol und n-Hexanol.
- Viele der vorstehend genannten EP-Hilfsadditive und Korrosions- und Oxidationsinhibitoren dienen auch als Antiverschleißmittel. Zinkdialkyldithiophosphate sind gut bekannte Beispiele dafür.
- Stockpunktverbesserer sind besonders bevorzugte Additive, die meist den hier beschriebenen Schmierölen zugesetzt werden. Die Verwendung solcher Stockpunktverbesserer in öligen Zusammensetzungen zur Steigerung der Tieftemperatureigenschaften von öligen Zusammensetzungen ist dem Fachmann bekannt; vgl. beispielsweise C.V. Smalheer und R. Kennedy Smith, "Lubricant Additives", Lezius-Hiles Co., Hrsg., Cleveland, Ohio, 1967, Seite 8.
- Beispiele für verwendbare Stockpunktverbesserer sind Polymethacrylate, Polyacrylate, Polyacrylamide, Kondensationsprodukte von Halogenparaffinwachsen und aromatischen Verbindungen, Vinylcarboxylatpolymere und Terpolymere von Dialkylfumaraten, Vinylestern von Fettsäuren und Alkylvinylethern. Erfindungsgemäß verwendbare Stockpunktverbesserer, Verfahren zu deren Herstellung und deren Verwendung sind in folgenden US-Patentschriften beschrieben:

- Antischaummittel werden zum Hemmen oder Verhindern der Bildung stabiler Schäume verwendet. Typische Antischaummittel sind Silicone oder organische Polymere. Weitere Antischaummittel sind in dem Buch von Henry T. Kerner, "Foam Control Agents", auf den Seiten 125-162, Noyes Data Corporation, 1976, beschrieben.
- Viskositätsverbesserer liegen typischerweise in einer Menge von 5 bis 1 5 Gew.-% der Zusammensetzung vor. Viskositätsverbesserer halten die Viskosität bei Erhöhung der Schmiermitteltemperatur mehr oder weniger konstant. Beispiele für Viskositätsverbesserer sind hydrierte Styrol-/Isopren- Copolymere, Maleinsäureanhydrid-/Styrol-Copolymere, Olefincopolymere, wie Ethylen-/Propylen-Copolymere, Styrol-/Butadien-Copolymere und Homopolymere, wie Polybutylen.
- Die Erfindung wird durch die folgenden Beispiele weiter erläutert. Andere Ausführungsformen der Erfindung werden dem Fachmann nach der Betrachtung der Beispiele offensichtlich.
- Eine komplette Schmiermittelzusammensetzung wird hergestellt aus:

- Mangan-dialkylbenzolsulfonat mit einem durchschnittlichen Alkylbenzol-Molekulargewicht von 300 bis 380, als Manganmetall 50ppm
- Das Produkt von Beispiel I ergab zwischen 100 und 150 Betriebsstunden eine Mack T-7 Test-Steigung von 0.018. Ein Durchgangssteigungswert im gegenwärtigen Mack T-7 Test beträgt 0.04 oder weniger. Das gleiche Präparat ohne Mangansals ergibt einen Testwert von 0.16.
- Eine komplette Schmiermittelzusammensetzung wird hergestellt aus:

- Dieses Präparat ergab eine Mack T-7 Steigung von 0.035, wobei ein Wert von 0.04 annehmbar ist. Der Steigungswert im Test in Abwesenheit von Mangan beträgt 0.16.
- Eine komplette Schmiermittelzusammensetzung wird hergestellt aus:

- Das Kobalt-haltige Präparat ergibt beim Mack T-7 Test einen Steigungswert von 0.068 und zeigt eine Verbesserung von mehr als 50% gegenüber den Präparaten, die kein Kobalt enthalten. Die Viskositätserhöhung im Schmiermittel ist über den Zeitraum von 100 bis 150 Stunden in Abwesenheit von Kobalt um 58% größer.
- Eine komplette Dieselmotorschmiermittelzusammensetzung wird hergestellt aus:

- Der Mack T-7 Test zeigt als Resultat bei der Titanverbindung einen Steigungswert von 0.026. Wenn Titan nicht verwendet wird, ist die Viskositätserhöhung über der Grundlinie 182%.
- Eine komplette Schmiermittelzusammensetzung wird hergestellt aus:

- Dieses Beispiel verwendet Mangansalicylat mit 450ppm Mangan.
Claims (13)
1. Verwendung einer öllöslichen oder in Öl dispergierbaren
Metallverbindung, wobei das Metall ausgewählt ist aus Mangan, Titan, Kobalt
und deren Gemischen, zur Verzögerung der durch Ruß auftretenden Erhöhung
der Viskositätsrate eines Schmiermittels in einem Dieselmotor-
Schmiermittelsystem, das zur Rußbildung neigt, wobei die
Metallverbindungen als Metall in einer Menge von 30ppm bis 500ppm des
Schmiermittels vorliegen.
2. Verwendung nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Schmiermittel ein Öl mit
Schmierviskosität umfaßt, das in einer Menge von 75 bis 99.5 Gew.-% des
Schmiermittels vorliegt.
3. Verwendung nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei die Metallverbindung
Mangan enthält, das als Metall in einer Menge von 30ppm bis 500 ppm des
Schmiermittels vorliegt.
4. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei die
Metallverbindung als Metall in einer Menge von 35ppm bis 350ppm vorliegt.
5. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei das
Schmiermittel eine Gesamt-Basenzahl von 0 bis 25 hat.
6. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei das
Schmiermittel im wesentlichen kein Blei enthält.
7. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei die
Metallverbindung ein Sulfonat, Carboxylat, Phosphonat, Salicylat, Phenolat
oder Naphthenat ist.
8. Verwendung nach Anspruch 7, wobei das Carboxylat sich von einer
Fettsäure mit 6 bis 30 C-Atomen pro Carboxyl-Gruppe ableitet.
9. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei das
Schmiermittel zusätzlich ein Viskositätsverbesserer in einer Menge von 5 bis
15 Gew.-% des Schmiermittels enthält.
10. Verwendung nach einem der Ansprüche, wobei das Schmiermittel
zusätzlich ein Dispersant enthält.
11. Verwendung nach Anspruch 10, wobei das Dispersant ausgewählt ist
aus Phosphor-enthaltenden, Olefinpolymeren, Amin-Dipersants, Mannich-
Dispersants und Alkali- und Erdalkalimetallsalzen von Carbonsäuren und
organischen Phosphorsäuren.
12. Verwendung nach Anspruch 10 oder 11, wobei das Dispersant in einer
Menge von 0.05 bis 20 Gew.-% des Schmiermittels vorliegt.
13. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei das
Schmiermittel zusätzlich eine Zinkverbindung enthält.
