Description
Vanadinpentoxid und Titandioxid enthaltende Trägerkatalysatoren sind als Oxidationskatalysatoren für
die Herstellung von Carbonsäuren oder Carbonsäureanhydriden durch Oxidation von aromatischen oder
ungesättigten aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen in der Gasphase bekannt. Katalysatoren der genannten Art,
die aus einem kugelförmigen inerten Träger und der darauf in dünner Schicht aufgebrachten katalytisch
wirksamen Masse aus Vanadinpentoxid und Titandioxid bestehen, werden z.B. in der DT-PS 14 42 590
beschrieben. Sie haben für die kontinuierliche Herstellung von Phthalsäureanhydrid aus o-Xylol oder
Naphthalin großtechnische Bedeutung erlangt.
Es wurden auch schon Katalysatoren vorgeschlagen, die in der katalytisch aktiven Masse geringe Mengen an
Natrium oder Kalium und an Antimon enthalten (DT-OS 22 60 615).
Diese bekannten Katalysatoren erreichen ihre optimale Wirkung hinsichtlich Ausbeute und Belastbarkeit
erst nach einer gewissen Betriebsdauer. Auch sind die Ausbeute und die Belastbarkeit, die mit solchen
Katalysatoren erreicht werden, noch verbesserungsbedürftig.
Aus der DE-OS 23 21799 sind Vanadinpentoxid,
Titandioxid und Alkalipyrosulfat enthaltende Katalysatoren bekannt, die als weiteren Bestandteil 0,5 bis 20
Gew.-% Antimontrioxid enthalten. Im Beispiel 7 (s. Tabelle I) dieser Offenlegungsschrift wird eine Katalysatormischung
der Zusamensetzung 3 Gew.-% Vanadinpentoxid, 4 Gew.-°/o Antimontrioxid, 23 Gew.-%
Rubidiumpyrosulfat und 70 Gew-% Titandioxid beschrieben.
Dieser Katalysator enthält somit 9 Gew.-% an Rubidium und Antimon in einem Atoroverhältnis
Rb: Sb von 1; 0,4, Bei der Verwendung dieses
Katalysators für die Herstellung von Phthalsäureanhydrid aus o-Xylol (s. Tabelle II) wird Phthalsäureanhydrid
in nur mäßigen Ausbeuten erhalten.
Es war deshalb die Aufgabe gestellt, Trägerkatalysatoren
zu finden, die ihr Wirkungsoptimum bereits kurz
ίο nach Beginn der Oxidationsreaktion erreichen und
außerdem eine höhere Ausbeute und Belastbarkeit ermöglichen.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß ein Vanadinpentoxid, Titandioxid, Antimon und Rubidium enthaltender
Trägerkatalysator, der erhalten wird durch Aufbringen eines Gemisches, das Verbindungen des Vanadins,
Antimons und Rubidiums, feinverteiltes Titandioxid und Wasser oder ein organisches Lösungsmittel enthält, auf
einen inerten nicht porösen Träger in der Weise, daß der Träger nach Trocknung in dünner Schicht mit der
katalytisch wirksamen Masse beschichtet ist, die 1 bis 40 Gew.-% Vanadinpentoxid, 60 bis 99 Gew.-% Titandioxid
und, bezogen auf die katalytisch aktive Masse, geringe Mengen an Antimon und Rubidium enthält,
wobei der Vanadinpentoxidgehalt des fertigen Trägerkatalysators 0,05 bis 4 Gew.-% beträgt, diese gewünschten
vorteilhaften Eigenschaften aufweist, wenn man das Aufbringen so vornimmt, daß die katalytisch aktive
Masse 0,1 bis 10 Gew.-% an Rubidium und Antimon in
JO einem Atomverhältnis Rb : Sb von 1 :2,5 bis 1 :30
enthält.
Die vorteilhaften Eigenschaften der erfindungsgemäßen Katalysatoren waren nicht vorhersehbar, da in der
DE-OS 23 21 799 (s. Seite 4) angegeben ist, daß der Zusatz der Rubidiumverbindung nicht zu der gewünschten
Aktivitätsverbesserung führt
Als inertes nicht poröses Trägermaterial enthalten die neuen Katalysatoren gesinterte oder geschmolzene
Silikate, Porzellan, Tonerde, Siliciumcarbid, Rutil oder
•to Quarz. Der Träger hat vorteilhaft die Gestalt einer
Kugel mit einem Durchmesser von 3 bis 12 mm oder Ringform.
Die auf den Träger aufgebrachte katalytische Masse hat eine Schichtdicke von beispielsweise 0,03 bis 1 mm,
vorzugsweise von 0,05 bis 0,4 mm. Die aktive Masse macht etwa 3 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent des Trägerkatalysators
aus.
Das verwendete Titandioxid liegt vorteilhaft als Anatas mit einer inneren Oberfläche von 5 bis 50,
vorzugsweise von 5 bis 20 mVg und einer Korngröße von kleiner als 1 μ, ζ. B. 0,4 bis 0,8 μ, vor. Der Gehalt an
Rubidium und Antimon in der aktiven Masse beträgt 0,1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, vorzugsweise 0,5 bis 5
Gewichtsprozent. Das Atomverhältnis zwischen Rubidium und Antimon liegt dabei zwischen 1 :2,5 und 1 :30,
vorzugsweise zwischen I ; 10 und 1 :20.
Der geforderte Gehalt an Rubidium und Antimon in der aktiven Masse wird dadurch erreicht, daß der
aktiven Masse entsprechende Mengen an Rubidium- und Antimonverbindungen zusetzt. Geeignete Rubidiumverbindungen
sind z. B. das Oxid, Hydroxid, Cafbonat, Acetat, Nitrat, Vanadat oder das Sulfat. Diese
Verbindungen gehen bei der Herstellung des Katalysators bis auf das Sulfat, das Vanadat und das Oxid, die
(>5 unverändert bleiben, in das Oxid über, so daß das
Rubidium im fertigen Katalysator als Rubidiumoxid, Rubidiumvanadat oder Rubidiumsulfat vorliegt. Geeignete
Antimonverbindungen sind z. B. Antimontetroxid,
Antimontrioxid, Antimonsulfat, Antimonvanadat und Atnmoniumantimon-IU-tartrat, Im fertigen Katalysator
liegt das Antimon als Antimontrioxid, Antimonvanadat oder Antimonsulfat vor.
Die Herstellung des Katalysators erfolgt durch Aufbringen der aktiven Masse auf den Träger in an sich
üblicher Weise, Beispielsweise verfährt man so, daß man Vanadinpentoxid oder eine Vanadinverbindung, die
beim Erhitzen in Vanadinpentoxid übergeht, wie Ammoniumvanadat oder das Oxalat, Formiat, Acetat,
Tartrat oder Salicylat des Vanadins in Wasser oder einem organischen Lösungsmittel, wie Formamid,
Äthanolamin, Diäthylacetamid oder einem Alkanol mit dem feinverteüten Titandioxid, unter Zugabe- der
genannten Rubidium- und Antimonverbindung mischt, und die Mischung, die meist eine breiförmige Konsistenz
hat, z. B. in einer Dragiertrommel auf den auf 100 bis 4500C vorerhitzten Träger aufsprüht. Das feinverteilte
Titandioxid erhält man z. B. durch Mahlen, vorteilhaft in eiser Kolloidmühle. Ein nachträgliches
Erhitzen des so beschichteten Katalysatorträgers auf z. B. 200 bis 5000C unter oxidierenden oder reduzierenden
Bedingungen kann bei der Herstellung des Katalysators von Vorteil sein. Man erhitzt den
Katalysator zu diesem Zweck z. B. in Gegenwart eines Gemisches aus o-Xylol und Luft oder eines Gemisches
aus Luft und Schwefeldioxid.
Die neuen Katalysatoren eignen sich für die Herstellung von Carbonsäuren oder Carbonsäureanhydriden
durch Oxidation von aromatischen oder ungesättigten aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen in der Gasphase,
wie für die Herstellung von Phthalsäureanhydrid durch Luftoxidation von o-Xylol i-ud/oder Naphthalin
oder von Pyromellitsäureanhydrid durch Luftoxidation von Durol oder anderen 1,2,4,5-Tetri; .ikylbenzolen. Die
Durchführung der Oxidationsreaktion erfolgt auf an sich bekannte Weise.
Bei der Verwendung für die Herstellung von Phthalsäureanhydrid wird der neue Trägerkatalysator
z. B. in einem Röhrenofen, dessen Rohre einen Durchmesser von 18 bis 40 mm und eine Länge von I bis
4,0 m haben, angeordnet und mit dem gasförmigen Gemisch aus o-Xylol und/oder Naphthalin und Luft in
Berührung gebracht. Vorteilhaft verwendet man Katalysatorträger, deren Durchmesser etwa Ui der lichten
Weite der verwendeten Rohre entspricht.
Zur Temperaturregelung werden die Rohre mit einer Salzschmelze umgeben, in der man eine Temperatur
von 360 bis 4500C einhält. Die stündliche Belastung pro
Liter Katalysator beträgt im allgemeinen 2 bis 8 Nm3 Luft, die mit bis zu 100 g Kohlenwasserstoff pro Nm3
beladen ist.
a) Herstellung des erfindungsgemäßen
Katalysators 1
Katalysators 1
600 g Steatit-Ringe mit einem äußeren Durchmesser von 8 mm, einer Länge von 6 mm und einer Wandstärke
von 1,5 mm werden in einer Dragiertrommel auf 26O0C
erhitzt und mit einer Suspension, bestehend aus 400 g Anatas mit einer inneren Oberfläche von 11 mVg, 73,2 g
Vanadyloxalat (Vanadiumgehalt entspricht 41 % VaO5),
500 g Wasser, 100 g Formamid, 0,55 g Rubidiumcarbonat
und 10,75 g Antimontrioxid besprüht, bis das Gewicht der aufgetragenen katalytischen Masse 10%
vom Gesamtgewicht des Katalysators ausmacht. Der Vanadinpentoxidgehalt des Trägerkatalysators beträgt
0,64 Gew,-%.
Die katalytisch aktive Masse enthält 2,15 Gew.-% Rubidium und Antimon, bezogen auf Titandioxid und
Vanadinpentoxid. Das Atomverhältnis Rubidium
Antimon beträgt 1 :15,7.

b) Vergleichskatalysator II
Der Katalysator II wird wie Katalysator I hergestellt, wobei man der Suspension jedoch kein Rubidiumcarbonat zugibt
c) Vergleichskatalysator III
Der Katalysator III wird wie Katalysator I hergestellt, wobei man der Suspeosion jedoch kein Antimontrioxid
zugibt
d) Oxidation
Ein 3,20 m langes Eisenrohr mit einer lichten Weite von 25 mm, das zur Temperaturregelung von einer
Salzschmelze umgeben ist, wird auf 2,80 m mit dem Katalysator I gefüllt Durch das Rohr werden stündlich
4,5 Nm3 Luft mit Beladungen an 97gew.-°/oigem o-Xylol bis 42 g geleitet. In zwei weiteren Eisenrohren werden
unter den gleichen Bedingungen die Katalysatoren II und III geprüft.
Mit den Katalysatoren werden die in folgender Tabelle zusammengefaßten Ergebnisse erhalten (Ausbeute
bedeutet das erhaltene Phthalsäureanhydrid in Gew.-%, bezogen auf 100%iges o-Xylol bzw. Naphthalin):

Claims (4)
1. Vanadinpentoxid, Titandioxid, Antimon und
Rubidium enthaltender Trägerkatalysator, erhalten durch Aufbringen eines Geroisches, das Verbindungen
des Vanadins, Antimons und Rubidiums, feinverteiltes Titandioxid und Wasser oder ein
organisches Lösungsmittel enthält, auf einen inerten nicht porösen Träger in der Weise, daß der Träger
nach Trocknung in dünner Schicht mit der katalytisch wirksamen Masse beschichtet ist, die 1
bis 40 Gewichtsprozent Vanadinpentoxid, 60 bis 99 Gewichtsprozent Titandioxid und bezogen auf die
katalytisch aktive Masse, geringe Mengen an Antimon und Rubidium enthält, wobei der Vanadinpentoxidgehalt
des fertigen Trägerkatalysators 0,05 bis 4 Gewichtsprozent beträgt, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß man das Aufbringen so vornimmt, daß die katalytisch aktive Masse 0,1 bis 10
Gew.-% an Rubidium und Antimon in einem Atomverhältnis Rb : Sb von 1 :2,5 bis 1 :30 enthält
2. Trägerkatalysator nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die katalytisch aktive Masse 0,5
bis 5 Gewichtsprozent an Rubidium und Aniimon enthält.
3. Trägerkatalysator nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die katalytisch aktive Masse
Rubidium und Antimon in einem Atomverhältnis Rb : Sb von 1 :10 bis 1 :20 enthält.
4. Verwendung der Trägerkatalysatoren nach Anspruch 1 für die Herstellung von Phthalsäureanhydrid
durch Luftoxidation von o-Xylol und/oder Naphthalin.
