Description
A. 1 bis 99 Gewichtsteilen seines ersten Copolymeren mit einem Ethylenanteil von 60 bis
85 Mol-% und einem MjMn-Verhältnis von
unter 4 und
B. 99 bis 1 Gewichtsteilen eines zweiten Copolymeren mit einem Ethyjenanteil von 30 bis
70 Mol-% und einem MJA/n-Verhältnis von
unter 8 besteht, wobei
a) der Ethylengehalt des ersten Copolymeren über demjenigen liegt, der zu einem
maximalen Fließpunkt der Mischung führt und der Ethylengehalt des zweiten Copolymeren
unter demjenigen liegt, der einen maximalen Fließpunkt der Mischung bewirkt,
b) der Ethylengehalt des ersten Copolymeren mindestens 5 Mol-% größer ist als der des
zweiten Copolymeren und
c) die beiden Copolymeren in getrennten Verfahren hergestellt worden sind und
außer den oben genannten Eigenschaftsunterschieden sonst gleiche Eigenschaften aufweisen.
2. Schmierölmischung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Polymerenmischung als C3-bis
Ci8-Olefin Propylen enthält.
3. Schmierölmischung nach den Ansprüchen 1 und
2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie eine Polymerenmischung enthält, worin mindestens eines der
Copolymeren ein Terpolymeres ist.
4. Schmierölmischung nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis
3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die öllösliche Polymermischung in einer Menge von 0,01 bis
5 Gew.-% im Schmieröl enthalten ist.
5. Schmierölmischung nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis
4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie außerdem einen Fließpunktserniedriger enthält.
6. Konzentrat für die Verwendung in den Schmierölen nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 5, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß es die Mischung der beiden öllöslichen Copolymeren in einem Verdünnungslösungsmittel
enthält.
Die Erfindung betrifft Schmierölmischungen mit verbessertem Viskositätsindex sowie Konzentrate zur
Erzielung dieses verbesserten Viskositätsindexes in Schmierölen.
Schmieröle werden aufgrund unterschiedlicher Kriterien bewertet, die für die jeweils vorgesehene
Verwendung des Öls von Bedeutung sind. Einer der wichtigeren Faktoren ist der Viskositätsindex. Es ist
allgemein bekannt, daß ein niedriger Viskositätsindex (V.l.) große Viskositätsänderungen bei sich ändernder
Temperatur anzeigt, während ein hoher V.l. angibt, daß sich die Viskosität bei Temperaturänderungen nur
geringfügig ändert
ίο Die Anmelderin hat überraschenderweise gefunden,
daß man den Viskositätsindex und damit den Fließpunkt eines Schmieröls wesentlich verbessern kann, wenn man
dem Schmieröl nicht nur ein Ethylencopolymeres, sondern zwei Ethylencopolymere der in den Patentansprächen
angegebenen Art mit unterschiedlichem Ethylengehalt zugibt.
Die Zugabe einer Mischung der beiden Copolymeren verhindert einen unerwünschten Anstieg des Fließpunktes,
der auftritt, wenn man wie bisher nur ein Ethylencopolymeres zufügt, wie später anhand von
experimentellen Daten noch näher dargelegt ist. Das unterschiedliche Verhalten einer Copolymermischung
im Vergleich zu einzelnen Copolymeren mit gleichem Ethylengehalt war nicht vorauszusehen. Eigentlich hätte
man erwarten müssen, daß auch mit der Mischung der gleiche unerwünschte Effekt hervorgerufen würde wie
mit den einzelnen Copolymeren.
In der DE-OS 18 10 085 sind Schmierölmischungen auf der Basis von Mineral- oder synthetischen
Esterschmierölen beschrieben, denen ein Ethylen-Propylen-Copolymeres
zugesetzt ist. Diese Copolymeren erhält man durch Copolymerisation von Ethylen und
Propylen im Molverhältnis 6 :4 bis 3 :7. Sie haben ein
durchschnittliches Molekulargewicht von 1000 bis 3000.
Trotz der verwendeten hohen Mengen an diesen Copolymeren liegt der erzielte Viskositätsindex unter
dem, der eifindungsgemäß mit sehr geringen Mengen einer Mischung aus zwei hochmolekularen Ethylen-Propylen-Copolymeren
erhalten wird. Der DE-OS ist auch nicht zu entnehmen, daß man durch Zugabe einer
Mischung aus zwei Copolymeren mit unterschiedlichen Ethylengehalten den bei Verwendung nur eines
Copolymeren unerwünschten Anstieg des Fließpunktes verhindern kann.
In der US-PS 30 68 306 ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von öligen Polymeren mit niedrigem
Molekulargewicht beschrieben, die etwa 3 bis 15 Mol-% Ethylen enthalten und selbst als Schmiermittel und nicht
als Schmiermittelzusätze dienen, und somit ebenfalls
so keinen Hinweis auf die Verwendung zweier Ethylencopolymerer
mit unterschiedlichem Ethylengehalt zur Erzielung eines verbesserten Viskositätsindexes von
Grundschmierölen vermittelten.
Das erste und das zweite der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Copolymeren werden durch Copolymerisation
von Ethylen mit einem C3- bis Qe-a-Olefin sowie
gegebenenfalls einem copolymerisierbaren dritten Monomeren, nämlich einem C4- bis C|g-«-Olefin oder einem
C6- bis C28-aliphatischen oder alicyclischen nichtkonjugierten
Diolefin hergestellt.
Das C3- bis Cie-oc-Olefin kann linear oder verzweigt
sein, wobei die Verzweigung 3 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatome von der Doppelbindung entfernt ist. Zwar
verwendet man vorzugsweise nur ein einziges Olefin,
ti5 doch können auch Gemische von C3- bis Qe-Olefinen
eingesetzt werden. Geeignete C3- bis Cie-«-Olefine sind
z.B. Propylen, 1-Buten, 1-Penten, 1-Hexen, 1-Hepten,
1-Octen, 1-Nonen, 1-Decen, 4-Methyl-l-penten, 4-Me-
thyl-l-hexen, 5-Methyl-l-hexen, 4,4-Dimethyl-l-penten,
4-Methyl-l -hepten, 5-Methyl-l -hepten, 6-Methyl-1 -hepten,
4,4-Dimethyl-1-hexen, 5,6,5-Trimethyl-l -hepten und
deren Gemische.
Ethylen-Propylen Copolymere werden bevorzugt Das verwendete dritte Monomere, bei dem es sich um
ein oder mehrere C4- bis Cig-a-Olefine oder Ce- bis
Crs-Diolefine handelt, ist vorzugsweise linear, kann aber
auch verzweigt sein, wobei die Verzweigung 3 oder mehr Kohlenstoffatome von der Doppelbindung entfernt
ist. Obwohl auch hier definierte Monomere bevorzugt werden, sind Gemische der olefinischen
Monomeren ebenfalls verwendbar. Die Menge des dritten Monomeren im Terpolymeren kann 0 bis
lOMol-%, beispielsweise 0,1 bis 5,0Mol-% (0 bis
37,0 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,3 bis 18,5 Gew.-°/o) betragen.

15 Geeignete Diolefine sind z. B. bicyclische, alicyclische
und aliphatische nicht konjugierte Diolefine mit vorzugsweise 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, insbesondere
1,5-Cyclooctadien, 1,4-Hexadien, Dicyclopentadien,
5-Methylen-2-norbornen, 5-Vinyl-2-norbornen, i,5-Cyclodecadien, 2,4-Dimethyl-2,7-octadien, 3-(2-Methyl-lpropenyl)-cyclopenten,
1,5-Octadecadien sowie 5-Ethyl'den-2-norbornen.
Die Copolymeren aus Ethylen und höheren «-Olefinen, die als erstes und zweites Copolymeres verwendet
werden, erhält man dadurch, daß man zunächst Gemische aus den monomeren Bestandteilen herstellt,
welche die folgenden Mengen, jeweils bezogen auf 100 Teile Lösungsmittel, enthalten. Sofern nichts anderes
angegeben ist, beziehen sich alle vorliegend angegebenen Teile auf das Gewicht.

Weitere verträgliche Bestandteile, einschließlich solcher, die sich unter Bildung von Tetrapolymeren
einpolymerisieren lassen, können ebenfalls zugegen sein.
Das Monomerengemisch kann in Gegenwart einer katalytischen Menge einer Katalysatorzusammensetzung,
die als aktiven Bestandteil ein Übergangsmetall und als Co-Katalysator eine Organometallverbindung
enthält, in einzelnen Ansätzen oder kontinuierlich zu dem gewünschten Polymeren polymerisiert werden. In
typischer Weise kann die Katalysatorzusammensetzung enthalten:

a) eine Übergangsmetallverbindung, vorzugsweise ein Halogenid, eines Metalles der Gruppe IB bis
VIIIB und VIII des Periodensystems der Elemente mit einer Atomzahl in den Bereichen 21 bis 30, 39
bis 48 und 57 bis 80. Bevorzugt werden Titantetrachlorid, Vanadinoxychlorid und Vanadintetrachlorid;
b) eine Organometallverbindung eines Metalls der Gruppen IA, HA, IIB und ΠΙΑ, vorzugsweise eine
Organoaluminiumverbindung R„A1X3 _ „, wobei R
ein Kohlenwasserstoffrest, insbesondere ein Alkyl-, Aryl-, Aralkyl- oder Alkarylrest, X ein Halogenatom
und η eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 3 ist. Bevorzugt werden Diethylaluminiumchlorid, Triisobutylaluminium
und Ethylaluminiumsesquichlorid.
Besonders zweckmäßig sind Katalysatorzusammensetzungen, die 0,00001 bis 0,0001 Mol, z. B. 0,00005 Mol
Übergangsmetallhalogenid und 0,00007 bis 0,0007 Mol, z. B. 0,00035 Mol Organoaluminiumverbindung je
100 Teile Lösungsmittel enthalten.
Die Polymerisation zur Herstellung des ersten Copolymeren mit einem größeren Ethylengehalt von 60
bis 85 Mol-% kann durchgeführt werden, indem man 0,1 bis 10, z. B. 4,7 Teile Ethylen, 0,1 bis 20, z. B. 2,8 Teile
a-Olefin, insbesondere Propylen, und gegebenenfalls 0
bis 1,0, z. B. 0,22 Teile eines Diolefins, ζ. B. 5-Ethyliden-2-norbornen
sowie 4 · 10~6 bis 4 · ΙΟ-3, z. B. 2,35 ■ 10~4
Teile Wasserstoff und 100 Teile eines flüssigen inerten
Verdünnungs- und Lösungsmittelmediums einleitet, das Vanadiumxychlorid als Katalysator und Ethylaluminiumsesquichlorid
als Co-Katalysator in katalytischen Mengen von beispielsweise 0,0017 bis 0,017, insbesondere
0,00865 !eilen Katalysator und 0,0084 bis 0,084, z. B. 0,042 Teilen Co-Katalysator auf je 100 Teile Verdünnungsmittel
enthält. Das an der Reaktion nicht teilnehmende Verdünnungs- und Lösungsmittelmedium
kann ein aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoff, wie Toluol, ein gesättigter aliphatischer Kohlenwasserstoff, wie
Heptan, Pentan und Hexan oder ein Chlorkohlenwasserstoff, wie Tetrachlorethylen sein. Alle Reaktionsschritte sollten in Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff, Feuchtigkeit,
Kohlendioxid oder anderen schädlichen Verunreinigungen durchgeführt werden. Vorzugsweise sind
alle Ausgangsverbindungen und die Katalysatoren rein und trocken und befinden sich unter einer Inertgasatmosphäre,
z. B. unter Stickstoff oder Methan.
Während der Polymerisation kann das Reaktionsgemisch gerührt werden, wobei die Temperatur auf —40
bis 1000C, z.B. —10 bis 70°C, vorzugsweise auf etwa
3O0C und der Druck zwischen 0 und 71,9, vorzugsweise zwischen 0 und 22,3 und insbesondere auf 5,3 bar
gehalten wird. Die Reaktionszeit beträgt 1 bis 300, vorzugsweise 3 bis 60 und insbesondere 15 Minuten.
Nach Beendigung der Umsetzung wird das Reaktionsgemisch zur Isolierung der gebildeten Copolymeren
aufgearbeitet.
Vorzugsweise steuert man den F.thylengehalt des
Copolymeren durch Variieren des Molverhältnisses Ethylen zu Propylen.
Die Herstellung des ersten Copolymeren aus beispielsweise 4,7 Teilen Ethylen, 2,8 Teilen eines
höheren «Olefins und 235 ■ 10-"Teilen Wasserstoff
läßt sich durch Aufrechterhalten dieses Verhältnisses während der Umsetzung auf 0,1 bis 10, vorzugsweise auf
0,5 bis 4 und insbesondere 2,5 durchführen, da auf diese Weise ein erstes Copolymeres mit einem Ethylengehalt
von 60 bis 85 Mol-% (50 bis 79 Gew.-%) und insbesondere 75 Mol-% (65 Gew.-%) hei gestellt
werden kann.
Die Herstellung des zweiten Copolymeren aus beispielsweise 3,0 Teilen Ethylen, 4,9 Teilen eines
höheren a-Olefins und 6 · 10~5 Teilen Wasserstoff kann
durch Aufrechterhalten dieses Verhältnisses während der Umsetzung auf 0,01 bis 10, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 4
und insbesondere 0,9 bewirm werden, da auf diese Weise ein zweites Copolymeres mit einem Ethylengehalt
von 30 bis 70 Mol-% (20 bis 60 Gew.-%) und insbesondere 54 Mol-% (44 Gew.-%) gebildet wird. Das
erfindungsgemäß verwendete erste Copolymere läßt sich wie folgt kennzeichnen:

Ein bevorzugtes erstes Copolymeres mit hohem Ethylengehalt ist z. B. das Copolymere des Südafrikanischen
Patentes 69/5527, d. h. ein öllösliches Polymeres aus Ethylen und einem C3- bis C|8-«-Olefin, das durch
die folgenden Parameter gekennzeichnet ist:
Ethylengehalt etwa 60 bis 80 Moi-% (53-73Gew.-%),
Gehalt von unter etwa l,3Gew.-% an einer Polymerfraktion, die in n-Decan bei 45° unlöslich
ist,
Kristallinitäumter 25%,
Verhältnis MJMn unter 4,0,
aufgrund der Viskosität ermitteltes mittleres Molekulargewicht 10 000 bis 200 000.
Ein besonders bevorzugtes erstes Copolymeres ist das in Beispiel 1 der genannten Südafrikanischen
Patentschrift beschrieben. Dieses Copolymere aus Ethylen und Propylen enthält 77 Mol-% (69 Gew.-%)
Ethylen.
Weitere Beispiele für erste Copolymere sind:
a) ein Copolymeres aiis Ethylen und Propylen mit
einem Gehalt von 75 Mol-% (67 Gew.-%) Ethylen, das bei 55°C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung einer
Katalysatormischung aus VOCI3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)3Al2Cl3 als Co-Katalysator bei einem
Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 2,5 hergestellt wurde;
b) ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 72 Mol-% (63 Gew.-%),
das bei 35°C und 5,Gbar unter Verwendung einer
Katalysatormischung aus VOCI3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)3AI2CIj als Co-Katalysator bei einem
Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 2,5 hergestellt wurde;
c) ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 76 Mol-% (68 Gew.-%),
das bei 55° C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung einer Katalysatormischung aus VOCI3 als Katalysator
und (C2Hs)2AlCl als Co-Katalysator bei einem
Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 2,5 hergestellt wurde;
d) ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 75 Mol-% (67 Gew.-%),
das bei 55° C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung einer Katalysatormischung aus Vanadium-tris-(acetonylacetat)
als Katalysator und (C2Hs)3Al2Cl3 als
Co-Katalysator bei einem Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 3,2 hergestellt wurde;
e) ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen, Propylen und 5-Methylen-2-norbornen mit einem Ethylengehalt
von 74 Mol-% (64 Gew.-%), einem Propylengehalt von 24 Mol-% (35,7 Gew.-%) und einem 5-Methylen-2-norbornen-Geha!t
von 2 Mol-% (0,3 Gew.-%), das bei 550C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung
einer Katalysatormischung aus VOCl3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)2AlCl als Co-Katalysator bei
einem Ethylen-Propylen Mol verhältnis von 2,5 hergestellt wurde.
Das zweite erfindungsgemäß verwendete Copolymere läßt sich durch die folgenden Eigenschaften

Molverhältnis von 0,9 und einem Ethylengehalt von 54 Mol-% (44 Gew.-%).
Andere Beispiele für geeignete zweite Polymere sind die folgenden:

b) ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 53 Mol-% (43 Gew.-%),
das bei 55° C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung einer Katalysatormischung aus § Vanadium-tris-(acetonyiacetat)
ais Katalysator und (C2Hs)3Al2Ci3 als
Go-Katalysator bei einem Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 0,8 hergestellt wurde;

5-Methylen-2-norbornen von 2 Mol-% (03 Gew.-%), das bei 550C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung
einer Katalysatormischung aus VOCl3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)3Al2CI3 als Co-Katalysator
bei einem Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis von 0,9 hergestellt wurde.
Das erste und das zweite Copolymere werden dem Grundschmierol erfindungsgemäß in den folgenden
Gewichtsanteilen zugesetzt:

Für jedes Grundschmieröl, das erfindungsgemäß verbessert werden soll, gibt es einen charakteristischen
Wert des Ethylengehaltes in Gew.-%, bei dem der Fließpunkt ein Maximum erreicht. Dieser Wert läßt sich
durch Zugabe einer Standardmenge von z. B. 0,7 Gew.-% einer Reihe von Ethylen-Propylen Copolymeren
mit unterschiedlichen Ethylengehalten sonst aber ähnlichen Eigenschaften zu dem Grundschmieröl
bestimmen. Wenn man den Fließpunkt des Öles als Funktion des Ethylengehaltes aufträgt, stellt man fest,
daß es für jedes Öl einen Punkt gibt, bei dem der Fließpunkt ein Maximum erreicht. In typischer Weise
liegt dieser Punkt bei 36 bis 70, gewöhnlich bei 40 bis 65 und insbesondere bei 54% Ethylen. Dies entspricht 46
bis 78 Mol-%, bzw. 50 bis 74 Mol-% und insbesondere 63 Mol-%.
Ebenso beobachtet man, daß es zu beiden Seiten dieses Maximums einen Punkt für den Ethylengehalt
"ibt, bei dem der Füeßpunkt des behandelten Öles ein
Minimum erreicht. Das niedrigere Minimum liegt in typischer Weise bei 25 bis 60 Gew.-% (33 bis 69 Mol-%),
gewöhnlich bei 35 bis 55 Gew.-% (45 bis 64 Mol-%) und insbesondere bei 45 Gew.-% (55 Mol-%) Ethylen, das
obere Minimum in typischer Weise bei 55 bis 80 Gew.-% (64 bis 86 Mol-%), gewöhnlich bei 60 bis
75 Gew.-% (69 bis 82 Mol-%) und insbesondere bei 67 Gew.-% (75 Mol-%) Ethylen, wie aus der Zusammenstellung
der Tabelle V ersichtlich ist Sie gibt Ethylen-Propylen Copolymere mit den angegebenen Ethylengehalten
und Verdickungseigenschaften wieder, die zu dem in der späteren Tabelle VIII aufgeführten
Schmieröl mit den dort genannten Zusätzen gegeben wurden. Dann wurde die Viskosität jeder Probe bei
98,9° C (Centistoke) und —17,8° C (Poise) gemessen. Die
Ergebnisse sind nachfolgend zusammengestellt:

um das Vergleichsöl der Tabelle VIII auf die gleiche Viskosität zu verdicken.

bei Verwendung dieser Vorrichtung bei -19,4°C.

Die Werte der Tabelle V zeigen, daß der Fließpunkt Tabelle VI
bei einem herkömmlichen Grundschmieröl, das Zusätze
einschließ'ich eines den Fließpunkt herabsetzenden Bestandteile
Mittels enthält, ein Maximum durchläuft, das in diesem Fall bei etwa 65 Mol-% Ethylen liegt.
Berücksichtigt man, daß bei unterschiedlichen Ethy-
lengehalten unterschiedliche Fließpunkte festgestellt werden, so erkennt man, daß Ethylen-Propylen Copolymere
vermieden werden müssen, deren Ethylengehalt 4c gleich oder etwa gleich demjenigen ist, der zu einem
maximalen Fließpunkt führt. Bei der praktischen Durchführung der Erfindung wird das erste Copolymere
so ausgewählt, daß sein Ethylengehalt über demjenigen liegt, der zu einem maximalen Fließpunkt der Mischung
führt. Er liegt gewöhnlich im Bereich von 50 bis 79 Gew.-% (60 bis 85 Mol-%) und insbesondere von
etwa 62 bis 70 Gew.-% (71 bis 78 Mol-%). Das zweite Copolymere wird so ausgewählt, daß sein Ethylengehalt
unterhalb demjenigen liegt, der einen maximalen Fließpunkt der Mischung bewirkt. Er liegt bei 22 bis
60Gew.-% (30 bis 70 Mol-%) und insbesondere bei etwa 40 bis 55 Ge\v.-% (50 bis 64 Mo!-%). Dabei ist der
Ethylengehalt des ersten Copolymeren um mindestens 5 Mol-% größer als der des zweiten Copolymeren.
Überraschenderweise hat man gefunden, daß der Viskositätsindex eines Grundschmieröls, dem vorzugsweise
ein den Fließpunkt erniedrigendes Mittel zugesetzt wird, um 5 bis 50%, beispielsweise 25%
ansteigt und meistens im wesentlichen konstant bleibt, so
wenn man ein Gemisch der beiden Copolymeren in einer Menge von 0,01 bis 5,0 Gew.-%, z. B. 0,7 Gew.-%,
zusetzt.
Die beiden Copolymeren können in einem Verdünnungsmittel vorgemischt werden. Geeignet hierfür sind
u. a. Toluol, Hexan, Heptan, Isooctan und Schmieröle. a) Solche Vermischungen können die folgende Zusammensetzung

Das Gemisch der beiden Copolymeren kann dem Grundschmieröl allein zugefügt werden. Man kann es
aber auch in Kombination mit anderen Viskositätsindexverbesserern und weiteren Zusätzen anwenden, z. B.
zusammen mit Fließpunkterniedrigern, aschefreien Dispergiermitteln, z. B. dem Reaktionsprodukt von
Polyisobutylenbernsteinsäureanhydrid und Tetraethylcnpcntarnin,
mit Zusätzen vom Detergep.styp, z. B.
Bariumnonylphenolsulfi'd.Calcium-tert.-amyl-phenolsulfid,
Nickeloleat, Bariumoctadecylat, Calciumphenolstearat, Zink-diisopropylsalicalat, Aluminiumnaphthenat,
Calciumcetylphosphaten, Barium-di-tert-amyl-phenyolsulfid,
Calciumpetroleumsulfonat, Zinkmethylcyclohexyl-thiophosphat
und Calciumdichlorstearat
Die Vorteile des erfindungsgemäßen Zusatzes werden besonders deutlich, wenn das Schmieröl einen
Fließpunkterniedriger in einer Menge von 0 bis 1,0, z. B. von 0,7 Gew.-%, enthält. Beispiele für solche verwendbaren
Fließpunkterniedriger sind:
atkylierte Naphthaline, d. h. Naphthaline, die z. B.
mit chlorierten Paraffinwachsen in Gegenwart von Friedel-Crafts-Katalysatoren alkyliert wurden,
b) Polymere, einschließlich Copolymere von n-Alkylmethacrylaten,
c) Polymere, einschließlich Copolymere von n-Alkylacrylaten,
d) Copolymere von Di-n-alkylfumarat und Vinylacetat,
e) Copolymere von «-Olefinen,
f) Copolymere oder Terpolymere von a-Olefinen und
Styrol und/oder Alkylstyrolen.

Der erfindungsgemäße Zusatz verbessert den Viskositätsindex und übt dabei nur einen geringen oder gar
keinen unerwünschten Einfluß auf den Fließpunkt aus. Gewöhnlich wird der Fließpunkt sogar erniedrigt, wenn
öle verwendet werden, die keinen Fließpunkterniedriger enthalten.
In Gegenwart eines Fließpunkterniedrigers wird der erstrebte Anstieg des Viskositätsindexes erreicht, ohne
daß die Wirkung des Fließpunkterniedrigers verschlechtert wird. Häufig tritt sogar eine Verbesserung
ein.
Allgemein kann man sagen, daß der erfindungsgemäße Zusatz der Polymermischung besonders brauchbar
ist, wenn dem Grundschmieröl 0,05 bis 2,0 Gew.-% eines Fließpunkterniedrigers zugesetzt sind. Die Fließpunkterniedriger
haben gewöhnlich ein Molekulargewicht nach Staudinger von 1000 bis 50 000 und weisen meist
geradkettige Alkylreste mit 6 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen auf, die als Seitenketten an ein Kohlenwasserstoffgerüst
gebunden sind. Dieses ist häufig ein Polymethylengerüst oder ein aromatischer Rest, z. B. ein Naphthalinrest, an
den die Alkylseitenketten direkt an Kohlenstoffatome des Kerns gebunden sind. Beispiele sind Copolymere
von Λ-Olefinen oder alkylierten Naphthalinen. Bei einer
anderen Art sind die Alkylgruppen über Ester- oder Etherbindungen an den Kern gebunden, z. B. bei
Copolymeren von Dialkylfumaraten und Vinylacetat.
Als Grundöl für den erfindungsgemäßen Zusatz eignet sich »Solvent 150 Neutral« mit den folgenden
Eigenschaften:

Eine Schmierölzusammensetzung, die bereits verschiedene Zusätze, einschließlich eines Fließpunkterniedrigers
enthält und sirh erfindungsgemäß behandeln läßt, kann in folgender Weise zusammengestellt sein:
1. 92,5 Gew.-% LP Solvent 150 N (lösungsmittelraffiniertes Kohlenwasserstoff-Schmieröl mit niedrigem
Fließpunkt und einer Viskosität von 31,9-34,1 cSt bei 37,80C, einem Viskositätsindex
von 105 und einem Fließpunkt von etwa -18° C).
2. 4,5 Gew.-% eines aschefreien Dispergiermittels aus
dem Kondensationsprodukt von 1 Mol Tetraethylenpentamin mit 2,8 Mol Polyisobutenylsuccinimid
in 5O°/oiger Lösung in LP Solvent 150 N.
3. l,0Gew.-% eines Antioxydations- und Stabilisierungsmittels,
nämlich Zinksalze des Reaktionsproduktes von P2S5 und C4-C5 aliphatischen Alkoholen
als 75%iges Konzentrat in einem Schmieröl als Verdünnungsmittel.
4. l,5Gew.-% eines Rostschutzmittels vom Detergenstyp,
aus einem Calciumsulfonatkonzentrat in Schmieröl mit einer Basenzahl von etwa 300 und
einem Gesamtcalciumgehalt von etwa 11,4Gew.-°/o aus alkylaromatischen Sulfonsäuren
mit einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 420 (in Form des Natriumsalzes).
5. 0,5 Gew.-% eines Fließpunkterniedrigers aus einem 50/50 Gew.-%-Gemisch von
a) dem in Gegenwart von AICb erhaltenen Kondensationsprodukt von 1) Naphthalin und
2) einem zu etwa 23% chlorierten Wachs mit einem Erweichungspunkt von 50,6°C mit dem
Molekulargewicht etwa 2000 und
b) dem Kondensationsprodukt aus äquimolaren Mengen eines Di-(C8-C)8-alkyl)-fumarats mit
Alkylgruppen einer geradzahligen Kohlenstoffzahl und Vinylacetat mit dem Molekulargewicht
etwa 15 000.
Die nachfolgenden Beispiele, in denen sich alle Angaben auf das Gewicht beziehen, sofern nichts
anderes angegeben ist, erläutern die Erfindung.
a) Beide Copolymeren bestanden aus Ethylen-Propylen
Copolymeren, die bei 1500C durch Kontakt mit Kupferoxid und Molekularsieben gereinigt worden
waren. Das als Lösungsmittel verwendete n-Heptan wurde durch Hindurchleiten durch eine Schicht
aus Aluminiumoxid und Kieselsäuregel gereinigt. Der Wasserstoff wurde durch Hindurchleiten durch
eine Schicht aus Kieselsäuregel getrocknet.
Zur Herstellung des ersten Copolymeren wurden 4,7 Teile Ethylen, 2,8 Teile Propylen und 2,35 · ΙΟ-7 Teile Wasserstoff zusammen mit 100 Teilen n-Heptan, 0,0094 Teilen VOCI3 als Katalysator und 0,034 Teilen Ethylaluminiumsesquichlorid in den Reaktor gegeben. Die Katalysatorzusammensetzung hatte ein Al: V-Mo!verhä!tnis von 5,0.
Nach einer Verweilzeit von 20 Minuten wurde der Produktstrom abgezogen und einer Wasserdampfdestillation unterworfen, die zu einem lösungsmittelfreien Rohprodukt führte, das anschließend getrocknet wurde. Die Eigenschaften dieses Produktes sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle IX aufgeführt.
Zur Herstellung des ersten Copolymeren wurden 4,7 Teile Ethylen, 2,8 Teile Propylen und 2,35 · ΙΟ-7 Teile Wasserstoff zusammen mit 100 Teilen n-Heptan, 0,0094 Teilen VOCI3 als Katalysator und 0,034 Teilen Ethylaluminiumsesquichlorid in den Reaktor gegeben. Die Katalysatorzusammensetzung hatte ein Al: V-Mo!verhä!tnis von 5,0.
Nach einer Verweilzeit von 20 Minuten wurde der Produktstrom abgezogen und einer Wasserdampfdestillation unterworfen, die zu einem lösungsmittelfreien Rohprodukt führte, das anschließend getrocknet wurde. Die Eigenschaften dieses Produktes sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle IX aufgeführt.
Das zweite Copolymere wurde in ähnlicher Weise wie das erste Copolymere hergestellt, mit der

der Tabelle VIII.
In diesem Beispiel wurden 0,7 Teile eines 50/50 Gew.-%-Gemisches des ersten Copolymeren
und des zweiten Copolymeren der Tabelle IX verwendet. Dieses Gemisch, das 54 Gew.-°/o Ethylen
enthielt, wurde zu 100 Teilen des Vergleichsöls der Tabelle VIII gegeben.
b) Es wurde wie unter a) gearbeitet, jedoch wurden zu dem Grundöl der Tabelle VIII lediglich 0,7 Teile
eines einzigen Copolymeren gegeben. Das Copolymere wurde nach dem für das erste Copolymere in
der Tabelle VIII angegebenen Verfahren hergestellt, wobei jedoch das Ethylen : Propylen Molverhältnis
so modifiziert wurde, daß ein Produkt mit einem Ethylengehalt von 54 Gew.-% erhalten
wurde.
Der Viskositätsindex und die Fließpunkte für die Schmierölmischungen gemäß a) und b) sind in der
folgenden Tabelle angegeben:
ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 57 Mol-%(41 Gew.-°/o),dasbei55°C
und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung von VOCh als Katalysator und (C2H5)JAI2CI3 als Co-Katalysator hergestellt
wurde, wobei das Ethylen-Propylen Molverhältnis 0,5 betrug;
ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen und Propylen mit einem Ethylengehalt von 53 Mcl-% (43 Gew.-%), das bei 55°C
und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung von Vanadium-tris-(acetonylacetat) als Katalysator und von (C2Hs)3Al2Cb als
Co-Katalysator erhalten wurde, wobei das Ethylen : Propylen Molverhältnis 0,8 betrug;
ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen, Propylen und 5-Methylen-2-norbornen, das 50 Mol-% (40 Gew.-%) Ethylen, 48 Mol-% (59,7 Gew.-%) Propylen und 2 Mol.-% (0,3 Gew.-%) 5-Methylen-2-norbornen enthält und bei 55°C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung von VOCI3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)2AICl als Co-Katalysator erhalten wurde, wobei das Ethylen : Propylen Molverhältnis
ein Copolymeres aus Ethylen, Propylen und 5-Methylen-2-norbornen, das 50 Mol-% (40 Gew.-%) Ethylen, 48 Mol-% (59,7 Gew.-%) Propylen und 2 Mol.-% (0,3 Gew.-%) 5-Methylen-2-norbornen enthält und bei 55°C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung von VOCI3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)2AICl als Co-Katalysator erhalten wurde, wobei das Ethylen : Propylen Molverhältnis
20 0,9 betrug.

a) In diesem Beispiel wurden 0,7 Teile eines 66/34 Gew.-%-Gemisches aus dem ersten und dem
zweiten Copolymeren der Tabelle IX verwendet. Dieses Gemisch mit einem Ethylengehalt von
57,3Gew.-% wurde 100 Teilen des Grundschmieröls der Tabelle VIII zugesetzt. Der Viskositätsindex
des Produkts lag bei 135 und der Fließpunkt bei -31,7°C.
b) Der Zusatz von 0,7 Teilen eines einzigen Copolymeren mit einem Ethylengehalt von 57,3 Gew.-%
erhöhte den Viskositätsindex zwar auf 135, doch stieg der Fließpunkt auf —23,3°C an.

Die vorstehenden Ergebnisse zeigen, daß der Zusatz der Polymermischung gemäß der Erfindung (a) eine
Erhöhung des Viskositätsindexes um 20 auf einen Wert von ! 35 ermöglichte, ohne daß hierdurch der Fließpunkt
verändert wird. Die Zugabe nur eines Polymeren vermag zwar ebenfalls den Viskositätsindex auf 135 zu
erhöhen, jedoch wird gleichzeitig der Fließpunkt in unerwünschter Weise auf — 17,8°C erhöht.
Vergleichbare Ergebnisse werden erreicht, wenn man anstelle des ersten Copolymeren gemäß Beispiel 1 ein
Copolymeres aus 74 Mol-% (64 Gew.-) Ethylen, 24 Mol-% (35,7 Gew.-%) Propylen und 2 Mol-%
(0,3 Gew.-%) 5-MethyIen-2-norbornen verwendet, das aus den angegebenen Monomeren in Gegenwart von
Wasserstoff bei 55° C und 5,6 bar unter Verwendung von VOCl3 als Katalysator und (C2Hs)2AlCl als
Co-Katalysator hergestellt wurde, und als zweites Copolymeres anstelle des zweiten Copolymeren gemäß
Beispiel 1 eines der folgenden:
Während also durch den Zusatz der Copolymermischung nach 1) der Viskositätsindex um 20 Punkte auf
135 erhöht und gleichzeitig der Fließpunkt auf —31,7°C verringert wurde, stieg bei Zusatz eines vergleichbaren
einzigen Polymeren gemäß b) der Viskositätsindex zwar ebenfalls auf 135, doch wurde gleichzeitig der
Fließpunkt um 8,4° C auf — 23,3° C erhöht.
Dieses Beispiel zeigt ebenfalls, daß bei Verwendung von zwei Ethylen-Propylen Copolymeren mit verschiedenem
Ethylengehalt anstelle eines einzigen Copolymeren mit etwa dem kritischen Gehalt an Ethylen ein
Schmieröl mit wesentlich niedrigerem Fließpunkt erhalten wird.
In diesem Versuch wurde zu getrennten Anteilen des Öls der in der nachfolgenden Tabelle XI angegebenen
Zusammensetzung einmal ein einziges Ethy'en-Propylen
Copolymeres und zum anderen eine Mischung aus Ethylen-Propylen Copolymeren gegeben:

Claims (1)
1. Schmierölmischung mit einem größeren Gewichtsanteil eines Grundschmieröls und einem den
Viskositätsindex verbessernden kleineren Gewichtsanteil einer Polymere ^.mischung zweier öllöslicher
Copolymerer aus Ethylen und einem C3- bis
Ci8-a-Olefin sowie 0 bis 10 Mol-% eines C4- bis
Ci8-a-Olefins oder eines C6- bis Cjg-aliphatischen
oder acyclischen nicht konjugierten Diolefins, wobei die Copolymeren eine Kristallinität von unter
25%, ein ~MJM„-Verhältnis von unter 8 und ein
aufgrund der Viskosität ermitteltes durchschnittliches Molekulargewicht 10 000 bis 200 000 haben,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Polymerenmischung aus
