DEUTSCHES
Es ist bekannt, lichtempfindliche bzw. lichtleitfĂ€hige Schichten fĂŒr elektrophotographische Verfahren, speziell
fĂŒr das ? Elektrofax «-Verfahren (s. Radio Corporation of America Review 15 [1954], S. 462 bis 468), aus Lösungen
von schichtbildenden Kunststoffen in organischen Lösungsmitteln unter Zusatz von lichtempfindlichen
Stoffen auf geeignete Unterlagen zu vergieĂen. Das dabei verwendete Bindemittel muĂ einen elektrischen
spezifischen Widerstand aufweisen, der gröĂer ist als derjenige der photoleitfĂ€higen Substanz und
gröĂer als der spezifische Widerstand der Unterlage. Die besten Ergebnisse wurden erzielt bei Verwendung
von Bindemitteln, deren elektrischer spezifischer Widerstand mindestens IO10 Ω/cm oder mehr betrug.
BewĂ€hrt hat sich hierfĂŒr vornehmlich ein Silikonharz, das als 60°/0ige Lösung in aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen,
z. B. Toluol, im Handel ist.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daĂ es besonders vorteilhaft ist, als Bindemittel fĂŒr die Herstellung lichtleitfĂ€higer
Schichten fĂŒr elektrophotographische Verfahren in organischen Lösungsmitteln lösliche, hydroxylgnippenhaltige
harzartige Stoffe zu verwenden, deren Oxygruppen ganz oder zum Teil mit Isocyanaten umgesetzt worden sind.
FĂŒr die Umsetzung können Mono- oder Polyisocyanate, insbesondere Monoisocyanate, fĂŒr sich allein oder in
Gemischen mit Diisocyanaten verwendet werden. Das MengenverhÀltnis der Umsetzungskomponenten kann
dabei so gewÀhlt werden, daà auf eine Hydroxylgruppe eine oder weniger als eine NCO-Gruppe zur Anwendung
kommt. Beispielsweise seien die folgenden harzbildenden Verbindungstypen genannt, die mit Isocyanaten zu den
Verfahrensprodukten umgesetzt werden:
A. Hydroxylgruppenhaltige Polyester von PolycarbonsÀuren und Polyalkoholen, wobei die Alkoholkomponente
in ĂberschuĂ angewandt wird. Als PolycarbonsĂ€uren kommen hierfĂŒr vornehmlich aromatische DicarbonsĂ€uren,
wie PhthalsÀure, IsophthalsÀure, TerephthalsÀure, 4,4' -DiphenylÀther- dicarbonsÀuren, wie
BernsteinsÀure, AdipinsÀure, MethyladipinsÀure, SebacinsÀure, MaleinsÀure, FumarsÀure, DekandicarbonsÀure,
dimerisierte ĂlsĂ€ure, ZitronensĂ€ure, in Betracht. Des weiteren können in untergeordnetem MaĂe auch MonocarbonsĂ€uren
mitverwendet werden, wie z. B. BenzoesĂ€ure, StearinsĂ€ure, ĂlsĂ€ure, LeinölfettsĂ€ure, RizinusölsĂ€ure.
Geeignete Anteile an diesen SĂ€uren sind z. B. 1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die Menge der
PolycarbonsÀuren.
Als Beispiele fĂŒr Polyalkohole, die fĂŒr sich allein oder im Gemisch zur Herstellung der Hydroxylgruppen
enthaltenden Polyester herangezogen werden können, seien genannt: Glykol, DiÀthylenglykol, TriÀthylenglykol,
Butandiol, Butendiol, Butindiol, Hexandiol, Oktadekandiol, HydrochinondioxÀthylÀther, LeinölsÀuremonoglycerid,
ĂlsĂ€uremonoglycerid, 4,4'-Di-(/?-Ă€thoxy)-Verfahren zur Herstellung

Zur Modifizierung der Polyester können auch hier monofunktionelle Alkohole in untergeordnetem MaĂe
mitverwendet werden, wie z. B. Butanol, Hexanol, Octadecylalkohol. Es kommen hierfĂŒr Anteile von etwa
1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die Menge der Polyalkohole, in Frage.
B. Als harzbildende Verbindungen kommen ferner Epoxydharze in Frage, beispielsweise auf der Basis
mehrwertiger Phenole oder mehrwertiger Alkohole, die von ihrer Herstellung her freie Hydroxylgruppen enthalten
oder bei denen zusÀtzlich durch saure oder alkalische Verseifung der Epoxydgruppen Hydroxylgruppen
ausgebildet werden, weiterhin thermoplastische bzw. lösliche Harze, die durch Umwandlung von Epoxydharzen
mit Mono- und/oder PolycarbonsÀuren bzw. deren Anhydriden, mit Phenolen oder Aminen entstanden
sind, also allgemein harzartige thermoplastische Produkte auf Epoxydbasis, die von vornherein Hydroxylgruppen
besitzen oder diese durch bekannte Methoden erhalten.
C Weiterhin können harzartige Kondensationspro^ dukte verwendet werden, wie sie durch UmÀtherung
von Verbindungen, die zwei oder mehrere aromatisch gebundene âCH2-OR-Gruppierungen besitzen, mit
Polyalkoholen erhalten werden, wobei letztere im ĂberschuĂ eingesetzt werden. (Produkte dieser Art sind in
der Patentanmeldung F 22756 IVb / 39 c beschrieben.)
D. SchlieĂlich kommen noch Polyoxyverbindungen in Frage, die durch Kondensation von Polyalkoholen

mit Aldehyden erhalten werden, wobei als Polyalkohole solche bevorzugt werden, die keine cyclischen Acetale
bilden, wie beispielsweise Hexandiol, Butan-bis-Ă-dioxĂ€thylĂ€ther, Trimethylolpropan-trioxĂ€thylĂ€ther, weiterhin
aromatische Polyalkohole mit aliphatisch gebundenen l Hydroxylgruppen, die durch Umsetzung von aromatischen
Polyoxyverbindungen mit Glykolchlorhydrin erhalten werden.
Als Aldehydkomponente eignet sich in erster Linie Formaldehyd, jedoch sind auch andere Aldehyde, wie Îș
ζ. Î. Acetaldehyd, Benzaldehyd, Crotonaldehyd, verwendbar. (Diese Produkte sind in der Patentanmeldung
F18175 IVb / 39c beschrieben.)
FĂŒr das vorliegende Verfahren werden beispielsweise die unter A bis D aufgefĂŒhrten oder auch andere Poly- i;
hydroxylverbindungen, gegebenenfalls auch Gemische dieser, mit Isocyanaten zweckmĂ€Ăig in der WĂ€rme
umgesetzt.
Bevorzugt werden hierbei solche Isocyanate verwendet, die weitgehend lichtechte Kondensationsprodukte liefern, a
wie beispielsweise Butylisocyanat, Hexylisocyanat, Cyclohexylisocyanat, Toluylen-2,6-diisocyanat, DiÀthyl-methylphenylen-diisocyanat,
4,4'-dicyclohexylmethan-diisocyanat, 4, 4'- Diphenyl -dimethylmethan-diisocyanat,
m-Xylylendiisocyanat, l-cc-IsocyanatoÀthyl-3-isocyanato- 2, benzol.
Die Mengen an Isocyanat werden so gewÀhlt, daà in organischen Lösungsmitteln lösliche Umsetzungsprodukte
erhalten werden, die bei Verwendung eines Unterschusses an Isocyanaten noch freie Hydroxylgruppen besitzen 3'
können.
Die mit diesen Harzen hergestellten Schichten sind lichtecht und alterungsbestÀndig und unterscheiden sich
in den elektrischen Eigenschaften nicht von den Silikonharzschichten. Sie besitzen aber den Vorteil der Alkohollöslichkeit
und des wesentlich geringeren Preises.
Als lichtempfindliche bzw. lichtleitfĂ€hige Stoffe können die dafĂŒr bekannten Verbindungen verwendet werden,
beispielsweise Zinkoxyd, Arsentrisulfid, Bleijodid, Bleichromat, Cadmiumj odid, Quecksilberj odid, Aluminiumjodid,
Zinkjodid, Antimonoxyd, Antimonsulfid, Cadmiumsulfid, ferner Anthracen, Acenaphthen, Chrysen,
Terphenyl bzw. p-Diphenylbenzol, Benzanthron, 1,5-Dicyannaphthalin, 1,4-Dicyannaphthalin, Aminophthalodinitril,
Nitrophthalodinitril.
Die Sensibilisierung dieser Schichten kann bei Verwendung von Isocyanatharzen als Bindemittel in der
ĂŒblichen Weise mit den bekannten Verbindungen erfolgen.
Ein besonderer Vorteil dieser Isocyanatharze ist ihre Anwendbarkeit als wĂ€Ărige Dispersion. Die Herstellung
einer solchen wĂ€Ărigen Dispersion, die sich als Bindemittel fĂŒr lichtleitfĂ€hige Schichten eignet, erfolgt wie
nachstehend beschrieben.
Man stellt eine Lösung des Harzes in TrichlorÀthylen oder einem entsprechenden Lösungsmittel her und
emulgiert mit geeigneten Mitteln, indem man die Harzlösung in den geschmolzenen Emulgator, z. B. ein
Umsetzungsprodukt von AbietinsĂ€ure mit Ăthylenoxyd, unter RĂŒhren langsam eintrĂ€gt und anschlieĂend die
erforderliche Menge Wasser unter gutem RĂŒhren einlaufen lĂ€Ăt. Um die lichtleitfĂ€hige Substanz in diese
Dispersion einzuarbeiten, ist es zweckmĂ€Ăig, dann ein Schutzkolloid, z. B. Gummiarabikum, zusĂ€tzlich zu
verwenden.
Als lichtleitfÀhige Komponente sind alle bereits oben beschriebenen Verbindungen verwendbar.
Die mit dieser wĂ€Ărigen Dispersion hergestellten Schichten werden bei erhöhter Temperatur, vornehmlich
bei 60 bis 90° C, getrocknet. Sie sind dann so weit hydro-
phob, daà die Feuchtigkeitsaufnahme aus der Luft so minimal ist, daà das Verfahren auch nach lÀngerem
Lagern der Schichten bei einer Luftfeuchtigkeit von etwa 8 bis 90% nicht beeintrÀchtigt wird.
200 g eines Umsetzungsproduktes, das durch Vakuumveresterung von 3 Mol PhthalsÀureanhydrid, 3 Mol Trimethylolpropan,
1 Mol Pentaerythrit und nachfolgender Umsetzung mit 5 Mol Cyclohexyhsocyanat hergestellt
wurde, werden in 1000 ecm Alkohol gelöst. In diese Harzlösung rĂŒhrt man 600 g Zinkoxyd ein und behandelt
diese Mischung mehrere Stunden in einer KugelmĂŒhle. Sie wird dann auf eine geeignete Unterlage, wie
z. B. Papier, vergossen und kann bei Raumtemperatur getrocknet werden.
250 Gewichtsteile eines Umsetzungsproduktes, das durch Vakuumveresterung von 3 Mol PhthalsÀureanhydrid,
3 Mol Trimethylolpropan, 1 Mol Pentaerythrit und 1 Mol VorlauffettsÀure (C9 bis C10) und nachfolgender
Umsetzung mit 4,8 Mol CyclohexyĂsocyanat hergestellt wurde, werden mit 1000 Gewichtsteilen Alkohol versetzt
und gemeinsam mit 750 Gewichtsteilen Zinkoxyd in einer KugelmĂŒhle gemischt und geschĂŒttelt. Die Mischung
ist gebrauchsfertig, wenn das Harz vollstÀndig im Alkohol in Lösung gegangen ist. Die Aufarbeitung erfolgt wie
im Beispiel 1.
300 Gewichtsteile eines Umsetzungsproduktes, das durch Vakuumveresterung von 2 Mol PhthalsÀureanhydrid,
1 Mol AdipinsĂ€ure, 4 Mol Trimethylolpropan und anschlieĂende Umsetzung mit 4,8 Mol Cyclohexylisocyanat
hergestellt wurde, werden in 1000 Gewichtsteilen Alkohol gelöst. Man trÀgt 670 Gewichtsteile Zinkoxyd
ein und schĂŒttelt auf einer SchwingmĂŒhle. Die Mischung wird auf einer geeigneten Unterlage vergossen
und getrocknet.
200 Gewichtsteile eines Umsetzungsproduktes gemÀà Beispiel 2, in welchem CyclohexyHsocyanat durch die
Àquivalente Menge BenzyHsocyanat ersetzt worden ist, werden in 1000 Gewichtsteilen Alkohol gelöst. In diese
Lösung gibt man 200 Gewichtsteile p-Diphenylbenzol und schĂŒttelt auf einer KugelmĂŒhle. Die Aufarbeitung
erfolgt wie im Beispiel 1.
1000 Gewichtsteile einer 20°/0igen Lösung des im Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Umsetzungsproduktes in Alkohol,
900 Gewichtsteile Zinkoxyd und 0,13 Gewichtsteile Bengahosa werden in einer KugelmĂŒhle gemischt und
gemahlen. Die Mischung wird auf Papier vergossen und getrocknet.
100 Gewichtsteile eines auf dem ĂŒbHchen Wege aus 4,4'-Dioxy-diphenyl-dimethylmethan und Epichlorhydrin
hergestellten Epoxydharzes mit einem EpoxydÀquivalent von 1150 und 0,12% aktivem Wasserstoff werden
zunÀchst mit 10,6 Gewichtsteilen BenzoesÀure bei 150°C umgesetzt. Das harzartige, 5,8% Hydroxylgruppen enthaltende
Produkt wird sodann bei 140 bis 160°C mit 34 Gewichtsteilen CyclohexyHsocyanat nachbehandelt.
100 Gewichtsteile dieses Umsetzungsproduktes werden in 400 Gewichtsteilen Essigester gelöst. Man trÀgt
380 Gewichtsteile Zinkoxyd ein und schĂŒttelt einige
Claims (5)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von lichtleitfĂ€higen Schichten fĂŒr elektrophotographische Verfahren, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daĂ als Bindemittel fĂŒr lichtleitfĂ€hige Substanzen in organischen Lösungsmitteln
lösliche Umsetzungsprodukte aus hydroxylgruppenhaltigen Harzen und Isocyanaten verwendet werden,
in denen die Hydroxylgruppen ganz oder teilweise mit Isocyanaten umgesetzt worden sind.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daĂ Umsetzungsprodukte aus hydroxylgruppenhaltigen
Harzen und Monoisocyanaten verwendet werden, in denen auf eine Hydroxylgruppe eine oder weniger als eine NCO-Gruppe zur Anwendung
gelangt.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daĂ solche Umsetzungsprodukte verwendet
werden, in denen die Hydroxylgruppen teilweise mit Diisocyanaten bzw. einem Gemisch aus
Mono- und Diisocyanaten umgesetzt worden sind.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daĂ die Umsetzungsprodukte als wĂ€Ărige
Dispersionen verwendet werden.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daĂ als Umsetzungsprodukte solche
verwendet werden, die aromatische Ringe enthalten
