DEUTSCHES
Die Erfindung betrifft Zusatzmittel für .Schmieröle,
die aus einer Mischung eines Oxyds oder Hydroxyds mehrwertiger Metalle mit einem Dispergiermittel
bestehen.
Beim normalen Betrieb von Verbrennungsmotoren bilden sich Säuren im Schmieröl selbst und im Verbrennungsraum.
Die im Schmieröl selbst gebildeten Säuren werden normalerweise durch Oxydation des
Schmieröls während des Betriebes verursacht. Die sich bildenden organischen Säuren und Feroxyde zersetzen
das Schmieröl und tragen zum Verschleiß durch Korrosion bei. Die Säuren im Verbrennungsraum
stammen normalerweise von Verbrennungsprodukten des Betriebsstoffs. Wenn z. B. hochschwefelhaltige
Betriebsstoffe in Dieselmotoren Verwendung finden, 1S
bildet sich Schwefelsäure aus dem Schwefel, die ihren Weg in das Motorgehäuse zusammen mit durchtretenden
Gasen findet.
Man hat den Schmierölen große Mengen von Reinigungsmitteln als Dispergiermittel und gelegentlich
auch als Neutralisierungsmittel für diese Säuren zugesetzt, z. B. Calciumcetylphenolat. Ein Teil des
Calciumcetylphenolats reagiert aber mit der gebildeten Schwefelsäure aus den hochschwefelhaltigen Brennstoffen
und bildet Calciumsulfat, neutralisiert die Wirkung dieser Säuren und entzieht einen Teil des
Reinigungsmittels seinem beabsichtigten Zweck.
Anstatt verhältnismäßig teure organische Verbindungen zur Neutralisation der während des Betriebs
gebildeten Säuren zu verwenden, wäre es zweckmäßiger, dazu billige anorganische Substanzen zu benutzen.
Ebenso ist es zweckmäßiger, ein Reinigungsmittel in einer Schmierölmischung hauptsächlich für den beabsichtigten
Zweck zu benutzen und nicht zur Neutralisierung von Säuren. Außerdem werden anorganische
Stoffe, die verwendet werden können, um Säuren in Schmierölen zu neutralisieren, größere Mengen Säure
je Gewichtseinheit neutralisieren als organische Verbindungen.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man unter Verwendung von zweibasischen Alkoholen kolloidale Dispersionen
(kolloidale Lösungen) von Oxyden und Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle in Schmierölen erhalten kann,
die durch Dispergiermittel stabilisiert werden. Die Oxyde und Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen Metalle
werden gewöhnlich in einem zweibasischen Alkohol aufgelöst (oder dispergiert). Die zweibasischen
Alkohollösungen (oder Dispersionen) werden sodann innig mit Schmierölen gemischt und bilden Dispersionen
von Oxyden und Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle, die dann durch Dispergierungsmittel stabilisiert
werden.

paraffinische undgemischtbasische Mineralöle, Schmiermittel aus Kohleprodukten und synthetische öle, ζ. Β.
Alkylenpolymere (so Propylen-, Butylen- usw. Polymere und ihre Mischungen), Polymere vom Typ der
Alkylenoxydpolymere, Dicarbonsäureester und flüssige Ester von Phosphorsäuren. Synthetische öle vom Typ
der Alkylenoxydpolymere, die verwendet werden können, umfassen z. B. die Polymere von Alkylenoxyd
(z. B. Propylenoxydpolymere) und deren Abkömmlinge sowie auch die Alkylenoxydpolymere, die man
durch Polymerisation von Alkylenoxyden (z. B. Propylenoxyd) in Gegenwart von Wasser oder Alkoholen,
etwa Äthylalkohol, erhält, und Ester vom Typ der Alkylenoxydpolymere, z. B. acetylierte Propylenoxydpolymere,
die durch Acetylierung von Propylenoxydpolymeren, die Hydroxylgruppen enthalten, entstehen.
Synthetische öle vom Typ der Dicarbonsäureester
umfassen die, die durch Veresterung von Dicarbon··-
säuren, z. B. Adipin-, Azelain-, Suberin-, Sebacin-, Alkenylbernstein-, Fumar-, Maleinsäure usw., mit
Alkoholen, wie Butylalkohol, Hexylalkohol, 2-Äthylhexylalkohol, Dodecylalköhol usw., entstehen. Beispiele
für synthetische Dicarbonsäureesteröle sind Dibutyladipinat-, Dihexyladipinat-, Di-2-äthylhexylsebacinat-,
Di-n-hexylfumaratpolymere usw.
Synthetische öle vom Typ der flüssigen Ester von
Phosphorsäuren umfassen die Ester der Phosphorsäure, ζ. B. Tricresylphosphat, die Ester der Phosphonsäure,
z. B. den Diethylester der Dekanphosphonsäure,

oder andere Ester dieser Art, wie ζ. B. die, die man!
durch Umsetzung von Alkylphosphonylchloriden mit Hydroxyl enthaltenden Verbindungen, wie Phenolen
und aliphatischen Alkoholen, und mit Olefinoxyden, wie Propylenoxyd, erhält.
Oxyde und Hydroxyde mehrwertiger Metalle, die nach dieser Erfindung in Schmierölen dispergiert
werden, sind die Oxyde und Hydroxyde der Metalle der Gruppen II, III, IV und VIII des Periodischen
Systems der Elemente, insbesondere von Calcium, ίο Myristinsäure, Palmitinsäure usw.
Magnesium, Strontium, Barium, Blei, Zinn, Zink, Dispergiermittel aus Sulfonaten
Cadmium, Eisen, Kobalt, Nickel und Aluminium. Wegen ihrer Wirksamkeit werden besonders die
Oxyde und Hydroxyde von Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, Blei und Zink benutzt.
Die zweibasischen Alkohole, die zur Dispergierung der Oxyde und Hydroxyde mehrwertiger Metalle in
Schmierölen nach vorliegender Erfindung verwendet werden, sind zweibasische Alkohole mit bis zu
Dispergiermittel, die zur Stabilisierung der Dispersionen von Oxyden und Hydroxyden der mehrwertigen
Metalle nach der vorliegenden Erfindung verwendet werden, sind Sulfonate, Sulfate, Phosphate, Thiophosphate,
Phosphonate, Thiophosphonate, Phenolate, Naphthenate, Carboxylate usw. von mehrwertigen
Metallen. Die als Dispergiermittel genannten Carboxylate sind Metallsalze von Carbonsäuren mit mindestens
12 Kohlenstoffatomen, ζ. B. von Laurinsäure,
mehrwertiger Metalle entsprechen den Formeln
(RSO3)^N und [(R)8ASO3I1M,
Wert der Wertigkeit des mehrwertigen Metalls entspricht. Die bevorzugten Metalle sind Calcium,
Barium, Strontium, Magnesium, Zink und Blei.
außerdem kleinere Mengen von Substituenten, wie Chlor, Brom, Sauerstoff, Hydroxylgruppen usw.
Beispiele für geeignete Reste sind Dodecan, Hexa-

oder verzweigtkettiger, gesättigter oder ungesättigter, hauptsächlich Kohlenwasserstoff darstellender Rest
mit einem Molekulargewicht von etwa 150 bis 800, A ein aromatischer Rest, wie Benzol, Naphthalin,

In Anbetracht der größeren Mengen von Oxyden
und Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle, die damit in 25 »Hauptsächlich Kohlenwasserstoff« darstellende Reste Schmierölen dispergiert werden können, ist Äthylen- enthalten hauptsächlich Wasserstoff und Kohlenstoff, glykol der bevorzugte zweibasische Alkohol.

Die Menge des zweibasischen Alkohols hängt zum Teil von der Natur des verwendeten zweibasischen
Alkohols, zum Teil von der Menge der zu dispergie- 30 decan, Eikosan, Triakontan, Reste, die sich von
renden Oxyde und Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen Erdölkohlenwasserstoffen ableiten, wie Weißöl, Wachs,
Metalle ab. Bei Verwendung von zweibasischen Aiko- Olefinpolymere (z. B. Polypropylen und Polybutylen
holen mit niedrigem Molekulargewicht, z. B. Äthylen- usw.). Zu Sulfonsäuren, die zur Herstellung dieser
glykol, wird eine größere Menge in Schmieröl disper- Sulfonate verwendet werden, gehören auch die in öl
gierter Oxyde und Hydroxyde erhalten als bei Ver- 35 löslichen, aus Erdöl erhaltenen Sulfonsäuren, wie die
wendung von zweibasischen Alkoholen mit höherem »Mahagony«-Säuren, und die synthetischen Sulfon-Molekulargewicht
(z.B. Propylenglykol), wenn beide säuren, die nach verschiedenen synthetischen Verfahren
in gleichen Gewichtsmengen gebraucht werden. hergestellt werden.
Der zweibasische Alkohol wird in solcher Menge Beispiele für Metallsulfonate sind Calcium-Weißöl-
verwendet, daß die Oxyde oder Hydroxyde der mehr- 40 Benzolsulfonat, Magnesium -Weißöl- Benzolsulf onat,
wertigen Metalle in einer angemessen kurzen Zeit Calcium-Dipolypropen-Benzolsulfonat, Magnesiumdispergiert
werden. Die Gewichtsverhältnisse von Dipolypropen-Benzolsulfonat, Calcium - Mahagonyzweibasischem
Alkohol zum Oxyd und Hydroxyd Erdölsulf onat, Magnesium -Mahagony- Erdölsulf onat,
eines mehrwertigen Metalls können vorzugsweise Calcium-Triakontylsulfonat und Magnesium-Triakon-50

Die Temperaturen zur Herstellung der Dispersion
von Oxyden und Hydroxyden der mehrwertigen
Metalle in dem Schmieröl mittels der zweibasischen
Alkohole hängen ebenfalls in hohem Grade von der
Natur der Oxyde und Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen 55 in der R ein gerad- oder verzweigtkettiger, gesättigter Metalle und der zweibasischen Alkohole ab. Bevorzugt oder ungesättigter, hauptsächlich Kohlenwasserstoff werden Mindesttemperaturen angewandt, bei denen
sich die Dispersionen bilden. In den meisten Fällen
ist es nicht notwendig, über Temperaturen von etwa
204° hinauszugehen. Normalerweise reichen Tempe- 60
raturen von 121 bis 177° aus, wenn nötig, können
Temperaturen bis herunter zu 93° angewandt werden.
Sobald die Oxyde und Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen
Metalle gemäß vorliegender Erfindung in den Schmierölen dispergiert worden sind, werden die Dispersionen 65 Penten, Isopenten, 3-Methylpentan, Hexan, Hexen, durch Zusatz von Dispergiermitteln stabilisiert, die Isohexan, Isohexen, Isoheptan, Heptan, Hepten, einen Teil der Schmierölzusammensetzung bilden. Oktan, Okten, Isooktan, Cetan, Hexadekan, Octa-Nach. der Stabilisierung wird der zweibasische Aiko- dekan, Tetradekan, Dodekan, von hydrierten Olefmhol durch Destillation od. dgl. aus dem Schmieröl polymeren und mit aliphatischen . oder cycloaliphaentfernt. 7° tischen Resten substituierten aromatischen Kohlen-

Sobald die Oxyde und Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen

Gemäß dieser Erfindung zu verwendende Phosphonatdispergiermittel

enthaltender Rest mit 7 bis 60 Kohlenstoffatomen und M ein zweiwertiges Metall, vorzugsweise Calcium,
Barium, Magnesium, Blei und Zink ist.
Die kohlenwasserstoffartigen Reste können von cycloaliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen, wie Methylcyclohexan,
Diäthylcyclohexan, Cetylcyclohexan, Tetralin usw., von aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen,
wie Propan, Propen, Butan, Buten, Isobutan, Pentan,
Wasserstoffen, wie Toluol, Xylol, Hexylbenzol, Cetylbenzol,
Oktadecylbenzol, Cyclohexylbenzol usw., abgeleitet sein.
Geeignete Reste können auch aus Kohlenwasserstoffmischungen, wie z. B. Benzin, Kerosin, mineralischen
Schmier öl -fraktionen (z. B. Weißöl) und Paraffinwachs, stammen.
Die hier benutzten Phosphonate können aus Phosphonylchloriden
und Phosphonsäuren und deren Estern hergestellt werden.
Phosphatdispergiermittel, die hier benutzt werden, sind Metallsalze von substituierten Abkömmlingen von
Säuren des Phosphors, z. B. der phosphorigen Säure, Unterphosphorsäure, Orthophosphorsäure und Pyrophosphorsäure.
Vorzugsweise sind die Phosphate dieser Erfindung Metalle von substituierten Oxysäuren
des fünfwertigen Phosphors mit den folgenden Strukturformeln

in denen R und R' Alkyl, Aryl, Alkaryl, Aralkyl oder cyclische, nicht benzolartige Reste bedeuten. Vorzugsweise
werden substituierte Phosphorsäuren mit mindestens 12 Kohlenstoffatomen verwendet und besonders
bevorzugt alkyl- oder arylsubstituierte Phosphorsäuren mit mindestens 12 Kohlenstoffatomen im
Molekül. Beispiele der zur Bildung von Salzen mehrwertiger Metalle verwendeten substituierten Phosphorsäuren
sind: Mono- und Dilaurylphosphorsäure, Mono- und Dicetylphosphorsäure, Mono- und Dioctadecylphosphorsäure,
Mono- und Dicyclohexenylphosphorsäure, Mono- und Dicetylpheny !phosphorsäure usw.
Die hier als Dispergiermittel in Betracht kommenden Naphthenate sind die Salze mehrwertiger Metalle
mit Naphthensäuren, d. h. die Salze mehrwertiger Metalle mit Carboxylsäuren der Naphthene, insbesondere
Calcium-, Barium-, Zink-, Blei-, Strontium-, Magnesium-, Mangan- und Kupfersalze der Erdöl-Naph
then s au ren.
Die als Dispergiermittel verwendbaren Phenolate sind Salze mehrwertiger Metalle mit Phenol und substituierten
Phenolen. Beispiele von Phenolaten mehrwertiger Metalle umfassen Calcium-, Barium-, Strontium-,
Eisen-, Blei-, Zink-, Mangan-, Magnesium- und Kupfersalze von Octylphenol, Decylphenol, Laurylphenol,
Pentadecylphenol, Cetylphenol, Triakontylphenol usw.
Die Dispergiermittel werden in der Mischung in Mengen von mindestens 1 Gewichtsteil auf je 0,2 Gewichtsteile
der Metalloxyde oder -hydroxyde benutzt. Mit 1 Gewichtsteil Dispargierüngsriiittel kann man 0,2
und mehr Gewichtsteile von Oxyden oder Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle stabil dispergieren. So kann
z. B. 1 Gewichtsteil Blei-Mähagonysulfonat 0,7 Gewichtsteile
Bleioxyd stabil dispergieren. Mit 5 Gewichtsteilen Calcium - Mahagonysulfonat kann man
1 Gewichtsteil Calciumhydroxyd stabil dispergieren. Auf prozentualer Grundlage kann man je nach dem
verwendeten Dispergiermittel und dem dispergierten Oxyd und Hydroxyd des mehrwertigen Metalls 0,02
bis 7 Gewichtsprozent Oxyd und Hydroxyd in dem Schmieröl dispergieren.
Wenn die Metalloxyde und -hydroxyde im Schmieröl dispergiert worden sind und die Dispersion
mit einem Dispergiermittel stabilisiert worden ist, ist das behandelte Schmieröl klar und filtrierbar. Die
wirksam stabilisierte kolloidale Dispersion ist einer klaren Lösung ähnlich, die ohne Entfernung irgendeines·
Bestandteiles filtriert werden kann.
Das mehrwertige Metall des Dispergiermittels kann dasselbe oder ein anderes sein wie das mehrwertige
Metall des dispergierten Oxyds oder Hydroxyds. So kann man z. B. ein Calciumsulfonat benutzen, um in
einem Schmieröl eine Dispersion von Bleioxyd oder aber eine Kalkdispersion zu stabilisieren.
Bei der Dispergierung kann man die Oxyde oder Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen Metalle im Schmieröl
mit Dispergierungsmitteln mischen, ehe sie mit dem zweibasischen Alkohol gemischt werden, oder die
Oxyde oder Hydroxyde der mehrwertigen Metalle können mit dem zweibasischen Alkohol und dem Dispergierungsmittel
vermischt werden, bevor diese Mischung dem Schmieröl zugesetzt wird, oder alle Bestandteile können gleichzeitig miteinander vermischt
werden. Vorzugsweise mischt man die zweibasischen Alkohole und die Metalloxyde oder Hydroxyde zuerst,
um eine kolloidale Dispersion oder Lösung des Metalloxyds oder Hydroxyds in den mehrwertigen Alkoholen
zu erhalten, bevor man sie mit dem Schmieröl und dem Dispergierungsmittel vermischt.
In der folgenden Tabelle wurde als Dispergiermittel Calcium - Mahagony - Erdölsulfonat benutzt.
Spalte 3 der Tabelle gibt die Menge Calcium im Schmieröl vor der Dispergierung an, und Spalte 8 die
Menge Calcium, die im Schmieröl nach der Dispergierung und Filtrierung vorhanden ist. Die Dispersionen
wurden durch Erhitzen von Mineralöllösungen von Calcium-Mahagony-Erdölsulfonat und Calciumoxyd
in Gegenwart von Äthylenglykol auf 143 bis 149° für eine Dauer von 3 bis 11 Stunden hergestellt. In allen
Beispielen der Tabelle wurde Äthylenglykol als zweibasischer Alkohohl angewandt.

* Diese Zahlen beziehen sich auf die endgültige Calciumraenge, die in dem Schmieröl vorhanden war, nachdem das CaO stabil
darin dispergiert worden war.
Die folgenden Beispiele illustrieren die Wirksamkeit
der mehrwertige Metalle enthaltenden. Phosphate und Thiophosphate für die Stabilisierung von Dispersionen
von Oxyden und Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle in Schmieröl.
Beispiel ,
Kolloidale Dispersionen von Calciumoxyd in
Schmieröl, stabilisiert mit Calciumnaphthenat
Schmieröl, stabilisiert mit Calciumnaphthenat
Eine Mischung von 370 g einer Mineralöllösung von Calciumnaphthenat (die Öllösung enthielt 2,57% Ca)
und 130gCalciumoxyd in Äthylenglykol (dieÄthylenglykollösung
enthielt 3,6% Ca) wurde 2 Stunden auf 183° erhitzt. Mit Rücksicht auf die zunehmende
Viskosität wurden weitere 100 g Mineralöl zugesetzt, worauf die Mischung noch eine weitere Stunde erhitzt
wurde. Sodann wurde das Äthylenglykol durch Erhitzen auf 232° bei atmosphärischem Druck entfernt.
Die so bereitete Dispersion enthielt 2,89% Ca, wovon 2,02% aus dem Calcium im Calciumnaphthenat
stammte.
Wie erwähnt, sind Oxyde und Hydroxyde mehrwertiger Metalle, die in der beschriebenen Weise dispergierbar
sind, wertvoll als Zusatzmittel zu Schmierölen, um die Gesamtleistung des Motors zu erhöhen.
Wie sich bei einem angepaßten L-1-Caterpillar-Motor-Probeversuch
erwies, helfen diese Dispersionen von Oxyden und Hydroxyden mehrwertiger Metalle, die
Kolbenmäntel sauber zu halten, die Bildung von Ablagerungen in den Ringnuten und den Kolbenringregionen
zu verhindern und somit Korrosion zu vermindern. Dieser Probeversuch wurde mit einer Einzylinder-Caterpillar-Maschine,
die eine Auspufftemperatur von 427° hatte, unter Verwendung eines Brennstoffes
mit 0,1% Schwefelgehalt 120 Stunden lang durchgeführt.
Caterpillar-Motor-Versuche (L-I) wurden mit einer
Schmierölzusammensetzung angestellt, die sulfuriertes Diparaffinsulfid, sulfuriertes Calciumcetylphenolat,
Zinkcetylphenyldithiophosphat und Calcium-Mahagony-Erdölsulfonat
enthielt, wodurch insgesamt 0,028 % Ca dem öl beigefügt wurde (jedoch in keinem
Fall dispergiertes Calcium). Die oberste Ringnutablagerungszahl war 42 (der Wert »0« bedeutet eine
saubere Nut und der Wert »100«, daß die Nut mit harzartigen Ablagerungen gefüllt ist). Nach einem
Versuch mit derselben Schmierölzusammensetzung, in dem Calciumoxyd mit Hilfe yon Calcium-Mahagony-Erdölsulfohat
(mit einem Gehalt von 0,013% an dispergiertem Calcium) im Schmieröl dispergiert worden
war, war die oberste Ringnutablagerungszahl 23. Die stabilisierte Dispersion von Calciumoxyd bewirkte
also eine Verminderung der Ablagerung in der obersten Ringnut um ungefähr 45 % (von 42 auf 23),
verglichen mit der Wirkung von Calcium-Mahagony-Erdölsulfonat allein.
Außer den Bestandteilen dieser Erfindung können auch andere Zusatzmittel in den Schmierölen verwendet
werden, z. B. Oxydationsverhinderungsmittel, wie die organischen Phosphorester (z. B. Zinkcetyldithiophosphat
und Calciumcetylphenyldithiophosphat), Metallsalze der Dithiocarbamidsäuren (z. B.
dibutyldithiocarbaminsaures Zink), Sulfide (z. B. sulfurierte Diparaffinsulfide, sulfurierte Olefine, Reaktionsprodukte
von P2S5-Pinen usw.), Amin (Phenyla-naphthylamin,
1, 4-Diamino-(dodecyl)-anthrachinon, p, p'-Dioctyldiphenylamin, N-Diäthylthiocarbamyl-pphenylendiamin
usw.).
Außerdem können die Schmieröle den Stockpunkt herabsetzende Mittel, ferner korrosionsverhindernde
Mittel, den Viskositätsindex von Kohlenwasserstoffölen verbessernde Mittel usw. enthalten.
Claims (5)
1. Zusatzmittel für Schmieröle, bestehend aus einer Mischung eines mehrwertigen Metalloxyds
oder -hydroxyds mit einem Dispergiermittel, wobei das Dispergiermittel in der Mischung in einer
Menge von mindestens 1 Gewichtsteil auf je 0,2 Gewichtsteile der anteiligen Metalloxyde oder
-hydroxyde vorhanden ist.
2. Zusatzmittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Dispergiermittel ein Sulfonat,
ein Phosphonat oder ein Naphthenat eines mehrwertigen Metalls ist.
3. Zusatzmittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Dispergiermittel ein öllösliches
Salz eines mehrwertigen Metalls mit einer Carbonsäure ist.
4. Zusatzmittel nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Dispergiermittel
ein Calciumsulfonat ist.
5. Zusatzmittel nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Metalloxyd
Calciumoxyd ist.
