Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种液晶显示设备。
背景技术
一般将常规液晶显示器构造为具有设置在显示区域100之外的垂直驱动电路101和水平驱动电路102,如图6(a)所示。
如图6(b)所示,在上述显示区100中,在多条垂直信号线201和多条水平信号线202的交叉处分别设置显示像素203。将上述垂直信号线201连接到上述垂直驱动电路101,另一方面,将水平信号线202通过未示出的视频信号输入线连接到上述水平驱动电路102。上述显示像素由薄膜晶体管(例如TFT薄膜晶体管)204、电容器205和像素电极206构成。附图标记207表示电容器线。
假设,作为彩色液晶显示器(下文简称为液晶显示器),有通过向上述液晶显示器增加含有具有三原色RGB的颜料或色素的树脂构成的滤色器而使其通过配置而能够显示彩色的液晶显示器,或者采用没有滤色器的三个液晶显示器屏板,并通过分别向其输入RGB光和信号,并由其组成图像而实现彩色显示的投影仪或投影电视,以及仅采用一个同样没有滤色器的液晶显示器屏板,并通过控制输入到所述屏板的光和信号实现彩色显示的投影仪或投影电视。随着以个人计算机作为典型代表的数字设备的迅速普及,对于这样的彩色液晶显示器的需求也变得多样化,对诸如更高分辨率和高保真度彩色复现的增强图像质量的需求不断增大。
因此,即便在透射型液晶显示器至今仍占据主导地位的投影仪和投影电视市场,对具备进一步提高图像显示质量的能力的反射型液晶显示器的需求也在增大。
反射型液晶显示器的优势在于,其能够比透射型液晶显示器更为容易地实现下述方面。(1)通过减小像素区域(最小显示单元)而缩小尺寸,(2)在不缩小尺寸的情况下进行像素倍增,以及(3)通过减小像素之间的点阵状黑 色显示区域提高图像的流畅性,由于液晶显示器的结构,所述点阵状黑色显示区域的出现是不可避免的。
但是,如果进行像素倍增或使像素区域缩小尺寸,那么在大量线路耦合的波动或来自相邻线路的噪声的影响下,容易发生信号波形的失真(rounding),由此产生了降低图像显示质量的风险。
因此,有人提出了一种通过向垂直信号线和水平信号线的部分或整体提供接地屏蔽线,以降低与相邻线路或元件的耦合噪声和由其进入的噪声,由此提高图像显示质量的方法(例如,参考专利文献1)。
专利文献1:日本专利申请公开JP6011684A。
也就是说,由于屏蔽线的电势是恒定的,因此人们认为有可能实现不受来自外部的噪声等干扰的稳定驱动,由此提高图像质量。
但是,如上述专利文献1所述,在此类向垂直信号线和水平信号线的部分或整体提供接地屏蔽线的结构当中,提高了线路覆盖密度,存在在每一像素内发生诸如像素和屏蔽线之间短路等故障的风险。
因此,尽管图像质量肯定将得到提高,但是具有降低产品成品率的风险。
例如,如果是诸如DRAM等的存储器,可以提供所谓的冗余救济电路,所述电路具有预先提供的用来利用熔丝等与发生故障的块进行切换的备份块,但是,在液晶显示器中,尽管可以对块进行切换,但是这种做法是不适用于彩色液晶显示器的,因为其像素和滤色器是相互对应设置的。
发明内容
因此,本发明的目的在于提供一种能够解决上述问题的液晶显示设备。提供了一种液晶显示设备,其中:在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处分别设置显示像素;分别向上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供屏蔽线;并且将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为使得上述显示像素显示黑色的值。
也就是说,提供了一种液晶显示设备,其特征在于包括:分别设置在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处的显示像素,以及分别为上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供的屏蔽线,且其特征在于:将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为使得上述显示像素显示黑色的值。
此外,其特征还在于,在常黑模式中,将上述屏蔽线设置为与公共电极的电势相同或相近的值。
此外,其特征还在于,在常白模式中,将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为施加至显示像素的电势的最大值、最小值或与其接近的值。

具体实施方式
本发明涉及一种液晶显示设备,其特征在于:在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处分别设置显示像素;分别向上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供屏蔽线;并且将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为使得上述显示像素显示黑色的值。
即,所述液晶显示设备包括:设置在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处的显示像素,以及分别为上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供的屏蔽线,将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为使得上述显示像素显示黑色的值。
这时,在常黑模式中,优选将上述屏蔽线设置为与公共电极的电势相同或相近的值。另一方面,在常白模式中,优选将上述屏蔽线的电势设置为施加至显示像素的电势的最大值、最小值或者与其接近的值。
也就是说,通过分别向上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供屏蔽线实现像素倍增和像素区域的小型化,并防止在线路耦合量的波动和来自相邻信号线的噪声的影响下信号波形发生失真,与此同时,还有可能针对诸如由屏蔽线的提供引起的线路覆盖密度的增大而导致的线路短路的故障而提供冗余。
液晶显示设备中冗余的基础在于“其如何在人眼上反映为缺陷”。因此,在液晶显示器中,可以将“人眼无法识别的缺陷”作为无缺陷对待。
因此,考虑到具有冗余的缺陷(故障),就彩色液晶显示设备而言,如果在具有RGB(红、绿和蓝三原色)混合色的图像中,仅有一种颜色显示 为黑色,那么人眼很难区分。因此,即使在像素和屏蔽线之间发生短路,如果将屏蔽线的电势设置为使显示像素显示黑色,那么人眼就不能捕捉到线路短路故障造成的缺陷,因此看起来与无瑕疵产品没有区别。
为了驱动液晶,采用AC驱动,其中,向每一像素提供相对于公共电极的电势的矩形信号。此外,在液晶显示设备中,根据不向像素施加电压的显示状态是白色还是黑色划分出常白模式和常黑模式两种模式。
因此,如果将每一屏蔽线的电势设置在使显示像素近乎显示黑色的电势范围内,即使在像素和屏蔽线之间发生短路,人眼也无法从外观上区分,因此能够将其作为无瑕疵产品处理。
顺便提及,允许采用实现近乎黑色的显示的电势范围的原因在于,液晶显示设备未必一定要具有完全黑色的状态,而且由于液晶具有电压阈值的特性,可以允许所述电势具有某种程度的宽度。
也就是说,就常黑模式而言,未必要求与公共电极的电势相同。另一方面,就常白模式而言,未必总要将所述电势设置为施加至垂直信号线的电压的最大值或最小值,也可以将其设置在实现近乎黑色显示的电势范围内。如果情况允许,可以将其接地。
此外,在根据本发明实施例的液晶显示设备中,屏蔽线不需要专用电源,因此可以使其采用液晶显示器中使用的其他电源,由此消除了增加成本的风险。
实施例
在下文中,将通过参考附图描述本发明的优选实施例。具体而言,本发明适用于彩色液晶显示设备,因此,在下述说明中,将以彩色液晶显示设备来描述本发明。图1是示出了根据本发明实施例的彩色液晶显示设备的横截面图的示意图,图2是示出了根据本发明的实施例的彩色液晶显示设备的显示区域的平面图的示意图。
如图1所示,在根据本发明的实施例的彩色液晶显示设备(以下称为液晶显示设备)1中,在硅基板(Si基板)10上形成包括晶体管11、电容器12和像素电极13的显示像素14,在其上形成用于起着图像信号线作用的垂直信号线15(参考图2)的第一金属层16,在第一金属层16上形成用于起着栅极(控制信号)线路作用的水平信号线17(图2)的第二金属层18,在 这一第二金属层18上形成作为光反射板的第三金属层19。

也就是说,通过设置使得透过滤色器23的光在后方设置的起着光反射器作用的第三金属层19上受到反射,并再次穿过滤色器23,从而在入射侧被作为输出光得到拾取,由于通过各显示像素14对光进行了合成,因此这一输出光能够显示具有预期色调的图像。
此外,在本发明的这一实施例中,除了上述基本结构之外,分别为垂直信号线15和水平信号线17提供屏蔽线3。
即,在上述垂直信号线15的两侧和上述水平信号线16的两侧设置屏蔽线3,从而分别在其间插置上述垂直信号线15和水平信号线16。
在图2的平面图中对其进行了图示。即,按矩阵图案设置多个显示像素14,在所述多条垂直信号线15和多条水平信号线17的交叉处设置各显示像素14。并且,设置多条屏蔽线3,从而分别插置上述垂直信号线15和水平 信号线17。
设置屏蔽线3的目的在于降低与相邻线路或元件之间的耦合噪声和由其进入的噪声,由此,通过防止在上述噪声的作用下信号波形发生弯曲,使在液晶显示设备1中提高图像显示质量成为可能。
注意,在本发明的这一实施例中,尽管在平面图(参考图2)中示出了屏蔽线3按方形包围每一显示像素14,但是,对于显示像素14而言,至少一条或一条以上屏蔽线3就足够了。此外,如图1所示,将第一金属层16用于垂直信号线15,将第二金属层18用于水平信号线17,但是这种布置不限制所述线路的使用目的。可以倒换所述使用目的,或者可以通过设置使水平信号线17与(例如)晶体管11的栅电极等同时形成。此外,尽管在晶体管11和电容器12形成于同一基板上,但是(例如)也可以使电容器12形成于金属线路之内,或者层压在晶体管11上。
在具有上述结构的液晶显示器1中,这一示范性实施例的特征在于,将上述屏蔽线3的每一电势设定为使每一显示像素在该电势下显示黑色或近乎黑色的电势。
使所述电势不只限于黑色显示的值,而是处于可实现近乎黑色显示的值的原因在于,由于液晶相对于电压具有固有阈值,因此,屏蔽线3的电势可以具有某种程度的宽度。例如,在采用由±5V驱动的液晶的情况下,所述电势为黑色显示电压的±2.5V左右几乎不存在问题。注意,在附图中,实线表示将在下文中描述的常白模式,虚线表示常黑模式。
如图4所示,为了驱动液晶,采用AC驱动,凭借所述AC驱动向每一像素提供相对于透明电极24的电势的矩形波信号。根据不向像素施加电压的显示状态是白色还是黑色划分出上述常白模式和常黑模式两种模式。注意,在图4中,在耦合等影响的作用下,施加至每一显示像素的电压在顶部和底部不会取得恒定值,因此,透明电极24的电势(a)不会取得处于所施加的顶部和底部电压之间的中央位置的值。但是,为了简化说明,图示中透明电极24的电势(a)处于中央位置。
因此,作为本发明实施例中屏蔽线3的具体电势,如果就常黑模式而言,将其设置在与透明电极24的电势(a)相同的值或者与其接近的值。
另一方面,就常白模式而言,将屏蔽线3的电势设置为施加至显示像素14的电压的最大值、最小值或者与其接近的值。
通过以这种方式在常黑模式和常白模式之间有差别地设置屏蔽线3的电势,即使在显示像素14内发生线路短路,也能够恒定地显示黑色,由此使由线路短路引起的显示故障达到人眼无法分辨的程度。
也就是说,在考虑具有冗余的故障时,在混合了RGB(红/绿/蓝三原色)的图像中,如果在图像中只有一个像素显示黑色,那么人眼很难分辨出这一黑色显示。
因此,如图5所示,就显示预定图像的情况而言,如果(例如)在滤色器23中对应于绿色(G)的显示像素14G内发生了由线路短路引起的故障,那么假设将屏蔽线3的电势设置为使这一显示像素14G显示黑色,那么显示像素14G将不会显示绿色而是显示黑色。注意,在图5中,附图标记28表示作为所谓的黑矩阵的光遮挡膜,其设置于各显示像素14之间。
如上文所述,在具有RGB的混合色的图像当中,人眼难以分辨出具有故障的显示像素14的存在,从而使该故障不被注意到,由此使液晶显示器设备1自身被作为标准产品处理。
如上所述,通过设置使得能够按单位像素分配屏蔽线3的电势,将其电势设置为使每一显示像素显示黑色的电势,或者与其接近的电势,从而使其近乎显示黑色,这样,即使在显示像素14内发生诸如线路短路的故障,由于人眼无法识别这一故障,因此有可能将其作为无瑕疵产品处理。
因此,根据本发明的实施例,通过提供屏蔽线3,能够提高液晶显示设备1的图像质量,还可以降低噪声,由此提高进一步降低元件尺寸的可能性,并通过像素倍增提高图像质量,以顺应市场需求,和/或使降低缩小液晶显示屏板尺寸的成本成为可能。
此外,通过提供屏蔽线3,由于提高了线路密度,因此,能够同时实现为晶体管11遮挡入射光,由此扩大入射光裕量(margin)。
此外,就屏蔽线3引起的线路密度的增大可能导致的短路故障而言,由于通过将屏蔽线3的电势设置为使每一显示像素显示黑色的电势,或者将其设置为使每一显示像素近乎显示黑色的电势而提供(impart)冗余,由此能够像无瑕疵产品一样看待故障,从而有可能防止产品成品率降低。此外,由于屏蔽线3不需要专用电源,因此没有提高成本的风险,由此促进了整体成本的降低。
此外,通过依据常白模式和常黑模式合理设置屏蔽线3的电势,变得有 可能在任何模式下都能容易地提供冗余。
尽管通过上文所述的实施例的实例和根据本发明的实例描述了本发明,但是本发明不限于此。
也就是说,本发明的特征在于主要在多条垂直信号线15和多条水平信号线17的交叉处分别设置显示像素14,并且分别向上述垂直信号线15和水平信号线17提供屏蔽线3,此外,本发明的特征还在于,将上述屏蔽线3的电势设置为使上述显示像素14显示黑色的值,其中,液晶种类或液晶显示设备1的结构不受具体限制。此外,本发明不限于本发明的示范性实施例中的模拟驱动,本发明适用于诸如数字驱动等的任何其他驱动方法。工业实用性
根据本发明,由于在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处分别设置显示像素,分别为上述垂直信号线和水平信号线提供屏蔽线,以及将上述屏蔽线3的电势设置为使上述显示像素显示黑色的值,因此,即使发生了诸如线路短路的故障,由于是人眼无法识别的,因此,能够将所述故障当做不是故障而是无瑕疵产品一样处理。由此,在提高图像质量的同时,也有可能防止产品成品率降低。
此外,不管是常白模式还是常黑模式,都能够容易地提供冗余,此外,屏蔽线不需要专用电源,由此可以使其采用液晶显示器内使用的任何其他电源。
Claims (3)
1.一种液晶显示设备,其特征在于:
在多条垂直信号线和多条水平信号线的交叉处分别设置显示像素;
分别向所述多条垂直信号线和所述多条水平信号线提供各自的屏蔽线;以及
将所述屏蔽线的电势设置为使所述显示像素显示黑色的值。
2.根据权利要求1所述的液晶显示设备,其特征在于:
在常黑模式中,将所述屏蔽线的电势设置为等于或几乎等于公共电极的电势的值。
3.根据权利要求1所述的液晶显示设备,其特征在于:
在常白模式中,将所述屏蔽线的电势设置为施加至所述显示像素的电压的最大值、最小值、与该最大值接近的值、或与该最小值接近的值。
