Abstract
本发明提供一种制造高效率、长寿命的有机电致发光元件的方法。采用金属化合物作为电子输送层,发光分子采用能利用三重项发光的金属络合物,并通过将主要起着空穴输送作用的有机物质配置得将其包围,从而达成的。
Description
技术领域
本发明涉及采用了液相工艺方法的有机电致发光装置及其制造方法以及电子仪器。
背景技术
构成有机电致发光的有机EL元件,一般在阳极和阴极之间具有由有机发光材料形成的有机发光层,从两电极注入的电子和空穴在发光层内再结合,激发能量以光的形式释放出。这种有机EL装置由于在各电极与发光层之间电荷的注入壁垒高,所以通常制成分别形成阳极缓冲层的空穴注入层(也可以叫作“空穴输送层”)与形成阴极的电子注入层(也可以叫作“电子输送层”)层叠结构。
其中特别是关于电子注入材料(也可以叫作“电子输送材料”),在原理上与氧等反应性高,即在通常状态下产生化学反应的可能性高,所以很难长时间保持可靠性。因此,阴极也包括在内起电子注入输送作用的部分就会变成劣化的一个主要原因。另一方面,对于有机电致发光的要求日益增加,其中可靠性一项变成一个大课题。过去以来采用某些有机材料的电子注入输送层不能充分满足要求,需要作根本的改善。

发明内容
本发明目的在于提供一种可靠性高、即寿命长的有机电致发光元件。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种包括本发明涉及的有机电致发光装置的电子仪器。
本发明涉及的有机电致发光装置,
在处于基体上制膜的电极和与其相对向的电极之间的功能性有机物层上,至少含有金属氧化物的微粒和金属络合物以及有机物。
本发明涉及的有机电致发光装置,就形成劣化重要原因的电子注入和传播而言,不是仅由有机物进行,而是由与无机物的混合物达成。
本发明涉及的有机电致发光装置中,除了所述发光功能部以外,也可以存在至少一层或多层空穴注入层、空穴输送层、电子注入层、或电子注入层。
本发明涉及的制造方法中,若采用液相工艺方法,与气相工艺方法相比,借助于简易的方法就能形成所述发光功能部。这种液相工艺方法,可以采用旋涂法、浸涂法或液滴喷出法。
本发明涉及的电子仪器,包括本发明涉及的有机电致发光装置。

具体实施方式
以下说明本发明的实施方式。
参照图1、图2说明本实施方式涉及的有机电致发光装置的一个实例。图1是表示有机电致发光装置1的示意图,图2是示意表示图1中沿着A-A线断面结构的断面视图。
有机电致发光装置1,如图1所示,在其实际显示区域4具有发出绿(G)光的点,能够由它进行单色显示。
如图2所示,本实施方式的有机电致发光装置1,构成为底部出射型。因此,由于是从基板20一侧取出光线的构成,所以采用透明或半透明基板作为基板20,例如玻璃、石英、树脂(塑料、塑料薄膜)等。
还有,当有机电致发光装置是所谓的顶部出射型的情况下,由于形成一种从作为所述基板相对向侧的密封基板(图示略)侧取出光线的构成,所以也可以采用透明基板和不透明基板中任何基板作为基板20。作为不透明基板,例如可以举出对氧化铝等陶瓷、不锈钢等金属片材实施了表面氧化等绝缘处理的,或者热固性树脂、热塑性树脂等。
本实施方式中,将有机电致发光元件设置在基体100上。基体100具有基板20、和在基板20上形成的电路部11。
电路部11具有在基板20上形成的例如由氧化硅层组成的保护层12、在保护层12上形成的驱动用TFT123、第一层间绝缘层15、和第二层间绝缘层18。驱动用TFT123具有由硅组成的半导体层13、在半导体层13上形成的门绝缘层14、在门绝缘层14上形成的门电极19、源电极16和漏电极17。
将有机电致发光装置元件在电路部11上。有机电致发光元件包括起阳极作用的像素电极23、在此像素电极23上形成的将从像素电极23的空穴注入/输送用的空穴注入层70、在此空穴注入层70上形成具有发光功能的有机发光层60、和在此有机发光层60上形成的阴极50。在图示的实例中虽然没有记载,但是必要时可以在有机发光层60与阴极50之间设置将来自阴极50的电子注入/输送用的电子注入层。
具有这种结构的有机电致发光元件1,在其有机层60中,因从空穴注入层70注入的空穴与来自阴极50的电子结合而产生发光。
起阳极作用的像素电极23,本实施方式中由于是底部出射型的,所以可以用透明导电材料形成。作为透明导电材料虽然可以使用ITO(铟锡氧化物),但是此外也可以使用例如氧化铟-氧化锌系无定形材料(铟锌氧化物:IZO/アイ·ゼツト·オ-)(注册商标)(出光兴产株式会社制造)等。
像素电极23的膜厚并无特别限制,例如可以设定在50~200纳米。而且通过对像素电极23的表面实施氧等离子体处理,可以对其赋予亲液性,同时还可以将电极表面洗净和调整功函数。关于氧等离子体处理,例如可以在等离子体功率100~800kW、氧气流量50~100毫升/秒、基板输送速度0.5~10毫米/秒钟、基板温度70~90℃的条件下进行。
空穴注入层70可以采用例如拜尔公司出品的PEDDOT:PSS【化1】作为空穴输送材料。可以采用例如将PEDOT等聚噻吩衍生物与PSS等的混合物溶解在极性溶剂中的材料。作为极性溶剂,例如可以举出异丙醇(IPA)、正丁醇、γ-丁内酯、N-甲基吡咯烷酮(NMP)、1,3-二甲基-2-咪唑啉二酮(DMI)及其衍生物,卡必醇乙酸酯、丁基卡必醇乙烯酯等乙二醇醚类等。当然并不限于此,没有此层的情况下也是可能的。

作为构成发光功能层60的材料,可以考虑以有机物质形式的有聚乙烯基咔唑【化2】、三烯丙基胺系高分子(例如ADS公司制造的ADS254BE【化3】)等,作为金属络合物,可以考虑在配位基上带有2,2’-双联吡啶-4,4’-二甲酸【化4】的三配位的铱金属络合物,作为金属化合物微粒的可以考虑氧化锆和氧化钛、氧化硅等。

阴极50形成得将发光功能层60和有机贮存格(bank)层221覆盖。
作为形成阴极50用的材料,应当是能在发光功能层60侧(下部一侧)形成功函数小的材料,可以使用例如钙、镁等。而且在上部一侧(密封侧)能够使用比发光功能部60一侧功函数高的材料,例如铝。这种铝还具有能将发光功能部60所发出的光线反射的反射层的功能。关于阴极50的膜厚没有特别限制,例如可以定为100~1000纳米,更优选20~500纳米。其中由于本实施方式是底部出射型的,所以此阴极50无需特别的透光性。
形成像素电极23的第二层间绝缘层18的表面,被像素电极23、例如以氧化硅等亲液性材料为主体的亲液性控制层25、和丙烯树脂和聚酰亚胺等组成的有机贮存格层221所覆盖。而且,在像素电极23上被设置在亲液性控制层25上的开口部25a,和被设置在有机贮存格层21上的开口部2221a的内部,将空穴注入层70和发光功能层60从像素电极侧依次顺序层叠。其中,本实施方式中的亲液性控制层25的“亲液性”,是指至少比构成有机贮存格层221的丙烯树脂、聚酰亚胺等材料具有更高亲液性的。
实施例
以下参照图3(a)~(c)、图4(a)、(b),说明本实施方式涉及的有机电致发光装置1的一种制造方法实例。其中,图3、图4所示的各断面视图,是与图1中沿着A-A线的断面部分对应的图。
(1)首先如图3(a)所示,用公知方法在基板20的表面上形成图2所示的电路部11,得到基体100。进而形成作为像素电极23的透明导电层将基体100的最上层(第二层间绝缘层18)全面覆盖。而且通过将此透明导电层图案化形成像素电极23。
(2)接着如图3(b)所示,在像素电极23和第二层间绝缘层18上形成由绝缘层组成的亲液性控制层25。然后在亲液性控制层15中,处于不同的两个像素电极23之间的位置上形成的凹部上,形成黑底层(图中未示出)。黑底层(black matrix),具体讲例如能用金属铬以溅射法对着亲液性控制层25的上述凹状部分成膜。
(3)进而如图3(c)所示,在亲液性控制层25的所定位置,形成有机贮存格层221,以使具体地覆盖所述黑底层。作为有机贮存格层的形成方法,例如将丙烯树脂、聚酰亚胺树脂等抗蚀剂溶解在溶剂中后,通过旋涂法、浸涂法等各种涂布方法将其涂布形成有机物质层。这种有机物质层的构成材料,只要是不将其溶于后述的液体材料溶剂中,借助于蚀刻等方法容易图案化的即可。然后通过光刻技术和蚀刻技术将有机物质层图案化,通过在有机物质层上形成开口部221a,以形成有机贮存格层221。
接着通过等离子体处理形成显示亲液性的区域和显示疏液性的区域。具体讲,该等离子体处理由预加热工序,由:将有机贮存格层221的上面和开口部221a的壁面及像素电极23的电极面23c、亲液性控制层25的上面分别制成亲液性的工序;将有机贮存格层221的上面和开口部221a的壁面制成疏液性的工序;和冷却工序构成。
也就是说,将被处理体(在基体100上层叠了像素电极23、有机贮存格层221等的层叠体)加热至所定温度,例如70~80℃,然后作为亲液化工序,进行大气气氛下以氧作为反应气体的等离子体处理(氧等离子体处理)。接着作为疏液化工序,进行大气气氛中以四氟甲烷作为反应气体的等离子体处理(CF4等离子体处理),其后将为等离子体处理而加热的被处理体冷却至室温,能够在所定处赋予亲液性和疏液性。
另外,在CF4等离子体处理中,对于像素电极23的电极面23c和亲液性控制层25虽然多少会有些影响,但是由于作为像素电极23的材料的ITO和作为亲液性控制层25的材料的氧化硅、氧化钛等对氟缺乏亲和性,所以在亲液化工序中被赋予的羟基不会被氟所取代,可以保持亲液性。
(4)然后如图3(c)所示,进行空穴注入层70的形成。形成这种空穴注入层70时,可以采用液相工艺方法形成数纳米~数百纳米的薄膜的方法。所谓液相工艺方法是指,将希望成膜的材料溶解或分散制成液体,借助于旋涂法、浸涂法或液滴喷出法(喷墨法)等用此液体制成薄膜的方法。旋涂法和浸涂法适于全面涂布,而液滴喷出法则适于在任意处将薄膜图案化。这种液相工艺方法,在以下所述发光功能部、电子注入层、阴极等的成膜工序中采用液相工艺方法的情况下也同样。
在此空穴注入层形成工序中,通过采用液滴喷出法将空穴注入层形成材料涂布在电极面23c上,无需借助于蚀刻等图案化的情况下,就能在所定位置形成空穴注入层70。
用液滴喷出法(喷墨法)选择性涂布孔穴注入层形成材料的情况下,首先在液滴喷头(图示略)中充填空穴注入层形成材料,使液滴喷头的喷嘴面对位于在亲液性控制层25上形成的所述开口部25a内的电极面23a,一边使液滴喷头与基材作相对运动,一边从喷嘴向电极面23c喷出每滴液量受到控制的液滴。
从喷嘴喷出的液滴,在经过亲液性处理的电极面23c上扩展,充满在亲液性控制层25的开口部25a内。在其另一方,在经过疏液(油墨)处理的有机贮存格层221的上面,液滴不会附着。因此,即使液滴偏离所定的喷出位置而被喷出在有机贮存格层221的上面,该上面不会被液滴所湿润,弹落的液滴会转入亲液性控制层25的开口部25a内。这样一来,容易而正确地向所定位置供给液滴。
空穴注入层70,如上所述,可以使用例如PEDOT:PSS作为空穴输送材料。其中不是空穴注入层70也无妨。
(5)进而如图4(a)所示,在空穴注入层70上形成发光功能部60。这种发光功能部60的形成工序与空穴注入层70相同。例如利用液滴喷出法分别在所定处的空穴输送层70上喷出后,进行干燥,在有机贮存格层221上形成的开口部221a内形成发光功能部60。
作为构成发光功能部60的材料,包括上述物质,以有机物形式的可以举出聚乙烯基咔唑、聚芴系高分子衍生物、(聚)苯撑乙烯撑衍生物、聚苯撑衍生物、聚噻吩衍生物、三烯丙基胺衍生物等;以金属络合物形式的可以举出配位基上具有2,2’-双联吡啶,-4-4’-二甲酸的三配位基铱金属络合物;以金属化合物微粒形式的可以举出氧化锆和氧化钛、碳化硅等。
以下说明本件最佳实施方式中发光功能部的实施方式。首先进行络合物的合成。将上述的2,2’-双联吡啶,-4-4’-二甲酸(东京化成制造)溶解在水、醇(乙醇、异丙醇等)、二甲基甲酰胺等极性溶剂中。此外再事先将氯化铱溶解在同样溶剂中。将溶解浓度调整到相对于三个配位基有一个金属。溶解后将二者混合搅拌。经过2~3分钟时间充分反应后,用剥离漏斗取出沉淀物。然后用乙醇洗涤、干燥。至此完成铱络合物。接着因为此络合物配位在氧化锆上,所以将络合物溶解在含卤溶剂(这里是氯仿)中后,适当添加到利用含有其它同种溶剂的溶剂使氧化锆处于分散状态之处。为了使其产生充分反应,添加终止后继续搅拌一日。这样将形成被铱络合物覆盖的氧化锆微粒。进而将聚乙烯基咔唑和ADS254BE溶解在二甲苯。甲苯、环己基苯、二氢苯并呋喃等非极性溶剂中,向其中添加经过上述处理的氧化锆。充分分散后,利用液相工艺方法涂布在空穴注入层70或阳极23例如ITO上。这里所述液相工艺方法,与上述同样是指利用旋涂法、浸涂法或液滴喷出法(喷墨法)等制作薄膜的方法。
上述工序,也可以将用适当方法将氧化锆涂布固定在阳极23例如ITO上的物质浸渍在上述络合物溶液中。这种情况下,从其上涂布在上述非极性溶剂中溶解的聚乙烯基咔唑溶液,形成发光功能部。图5表示示意图。
这样能够得到一种在基体100上至少形成了阳极(像素电极)23、空穴注入层70和发光功能部60的层叠体500。
(6)接着在必要时形成未图示的电子注入层。在此电子注入层的形成工序中,采用液滴喷出法在发光功能层60上涂布电子注入层形成材料。
(7)然后如图4(b)所示,在发光功能层60上形成阴极50。在此阴极50的形成工序中,例如采用蒸镀法和溅射法等使铝等阴极材料成膜。
其后,借助于密封工序形成密封基板30。在此密封工序中,为了防止水份和氧等浸入制成的有机电致发光元件内部,在密封基板30的内侧粘贴具有干燥功能的薄膜45,进而利用密封树脂(图示略)将该密封基板30与基板20密封。作为密封树脂,可以使用热固性树脂和紫外线固化性树脂。另外,这种密封工序,优选在氮气、氩气、氦气等惰性气体气氛中进行。
经过以上工序制作的有机电致发光装置1,在两电极之间施加例如10V以下的电压,就能从像素电极23一侧很好地取出光线。
而且,在上述实施方式中,虽然是采用蒸镀法和溅射法等气相工艺方法形成阴极50的,但是也可以代之以采用含有导电性材料的溶液或分散液的液相工艺方法形成。
也就是说,例如阴极50由与发光功能部60接触的主阴极和层叠在此主阴极上的辅助阴极构成,能够共同用导电性材料形成主阴极和辅助阴极。而且这种主阴极和辅助阴极都可以采用液滴喷出法等液相方法形成。
作为形成上述主阴极用的导电性材料,例如可以使用含有亚乙基二氧代噻吩的高分子化合物组成的导电性高分子材料。具体讲,作为导电性高分子材料,可以使用3,4-聚亚乙基二氧代噻吩/聚苯乙烯磺酸的分散液。而且作为构成主阴极50的导电性材料,既可以用金属微粒以代替导体上述的导电性高分子材料,也可以与导电性高分子材料同时采用这种金属微粒。特别是使用导电性高分子材料与金属微粒的混合材料形成主阴极的情况下,不但能在较低温度下将主阴极烧结,而且还能确保主阴极50的导电性。作为金属微粒,可以具体使用金和银、铝等。其中除金、银等金属微粒之外,还可以采用炭黑糊料。
上述辅助阴极,为提高阴极50全体的导电性而被层叠在主阴极上。辅助阴极具有将主阴极覆盖以保护其防止氧和水份进入的功能,可以由具有导电性的金属微粒形成。作为这种金属微粒,只要是化学上稳定的导电性材料就无特别限制,可以使用任何物质,例如金属或合金等,具体讲可以使用铝、金和银等。
如此,若采用液相工艺方法形成阴极50,则无需采用气相工艺方法所需的真空条件,因而能够在发光功能部60形成之后连续进行阴极50的形成,这样能使制造变得容易并提高生产性能。而且若用液相工艺方法形成像素电极(阳极),则能够使由阳极、功能层(空穴注入层、发光层)和阴极构成的有机电致发光元件全部都采用液相工艺方法形成,因而能使制造变得更加容易并进一步提高生产性能。
还有,在上述实施方式中,虽然是以底部出射型为例加以说明的,但是本实施方式并不限于这种情况,无论顶部出射型,还是底部和顶部两侧出射光线型的都适用。
根据本实施方式的制造方法,由于功能性有机物层,例如空穴注入层、有机发光层和电子注入层都采用液相工艺方法形成,所以与采用气相工艺方法的情况相比,能够容易形成各层。
5.电子仪器
以下说明本发明的电子仪器实例。本发明的电子仪器,是具有以上述的有机电致发光装置1作为显示部的设备,具体讲可以举出例如图6所示的移动电话机。
图6中符号1000表示移动电话机主体,符号1001表示采用了本发明的有机电致发光装置1的显示部。图6所示的移动电话机,由于备有由本发明的有机电致发光装置构成的显示部1001,所以是显示特性优良的仪器。
另外,作为本实施方式的电子仪器,除这种移动电话机之外,还可以用于文字处理机、个人电脑等便携式信息处理装置,以及手表型电子仪器、纯平显示器(电视机)等。
本发明并不限于上述的实施方式,也适用于利用低分子型有机电致发光元件的情况。
而且在上述实施方式中,虽然是说明了采用有机电致发光元件的显示装置,但是本发明并不限于这种情况,也可以用于喷墨打印机喷头等。
Claims (10)
1.一种有机电致发光装置,是具有在电极间形成的发光功能部的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,所述发光功能部由有机材料、金属络合物、金属化合物的微粒构成。
2.根据权利要求1所述的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述金属化合物和所述金属络合物具有共价键。
3.根据权利要求1或2所述的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述有机材料是高分子有机材料。
4.根据权利要求1~3中任何一项所述有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述有机材料事先被混合并分别具有相分离界面。
5.根据权利要求1~4中任何一项所述的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述金属络合物是铱络合物。
6.根据权利要求1~5中任何一项所述的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述金属化合物是金属氧化物。
7.根据权利要求6所述的有机电致发光装置,其特征在于,其中所述金属氧化物是氧化锆。
8.一种制造权利要求1~7所述的有机电致发光装置的有机电致发光装置的制造方法,其特征在于,其中采用液相工艺方法将所述发光功能部制膜。
9.根据权利要求8所述的有机电致发光装置的制造方法,其特征在于,在所述液相工艺方法中,使用将权利要求1~7中任何一项所述的有机材料、金属络合物、金属化合物的全部微粒混合的溶液。
10.一种电子仪器,包括权利要求1~7中任何一项所述的电光学装置。
