Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an EL panel having brightness required for practical purposes and a lone life, by forming a luminescent layer consisting of EL phosphor particles fixed within sintered titanium oxide, between two electrodes at least one of which is transparent.
CONSTITUTION: On a transparent electrode 2 is formed a luminescent layer by using a mixture obtained by mixing (i) EL phosphor particles (such as ZnS type), (ii) an organic metal complex of Ti, and optionally (iii) transparent or white inorganic powder (such as barium titanate) which is harmless to component (i) and has a particle diameter smaller than that of component (i). Then, onto the layer is formed a back electrode 5 by vacuum evaporation of Al. Then, the assemblage is fired at about 450°C for 40W60min to remove moisture in the luminescent layer and at the same time to decompose component (i). In this way, an EL panel having a luminescent layer 3 in which component 31 (i) and component 32 (iii) are fixed within sintered titanium oxide 33 is obtained.
