背景技术
近来,商业上生产了以等离子显示板(以下,也称为PDP)作为尺寸大而厚度小的彩色显示板的等离子显示器。
PDP配置有通过充有放电气体的放电空间而相对地设置的前玻璃基板和后基板,前玻璃基板用作显示表面。前玻璃基板形成有多个条形行电极,行电极在显示表面的内表面(即,与后基板相对的表面)上在其行方向延伸。同时,后基板形成有多个条形列电极,列电极沿显示表面的列方向延伸。在这种情况下,一对相邻行电极(以下,称为行电极对)用作为一条显示线。在行电极对和列电极的交叉处,在结构上形成了用作像素的放电单元。
此外,PDP配置有:用于向行电极施加多种脉冲(后文中说明)的行电极驱动器;以及地址驱动器,用于向列电极施加与输入视频信号相对应的像素数据脉冲。
行电极驱动器首先向所有行电极对同时施加复位脉冲,以引起所有放电单元中的复位放电。通过这样的复位放电,在所有的放电单元内形成壁上电荷(on-wall charge)。随后,地址驱动器每次一条显示线地向列电极施加对应于显示线的多个像素数据脉冲。在这段持续时间内,行电极驱动器顺序地向行电极对中的一个行电极施加扫描脉冲,从而每次一条显示线地使得属于该显示线的放电单元成为放电对象。在这样的情况下,在同时向其施加了高压像素数据脉冲和扫描脉冲的放电单元内部选择性地引起地址放电,从而擦除残留在该放电单元内的壁上电荷。随后,行电极驱动器交替地且重复地向所有行电极对的行电极施加维持脉冲(sustain pulse)。这样,每次施加维持脉冲时,仅在具有残留壁上电荷的放电单元中才会发生维持放电。维持放电提供发光(luminescence),以使得图像对应于输入视频信号出现在前玻璃基板的显示表面上。
然而,上述驱动引起了不在图像显示中涉及的发光放电,例如复位放电和地址放电,从而引发显示图像中对比度降低的问题。
因此,已经对PDP提出了建议,以实现通过抑制由复位和地址放电而引起的发光来提高显示图像的对比度,就象例如在日本专利申请特开No.2003-86108(以下称为专利文献1)中所公开的那样。

在图1所示的PDP中,每个放电单元由显示单元C1和复位-地址放电单元C2构成,显示单元C1只用于引起维持放电,复位-地址放电单元C2用于引起伴有在图像显示中不涉及的发光的复位和地址放电。显示单元C1和复位-地址放电单元C2具有各自的放电空间,二者的放电空间通过如图2所示的间隙r相通。复位-地址放电单元C2内部引起的地址放电通过间隙r向显示单元C1扩散。这把显示单元C1置于以下两种模式中的任一种:在施加维持脉冲的情况下允许维持放电的壁上电荷形成状态(点亮模式),以及不允许维持放电的壁上电荷形成状态(关闭模式)。因此,仅在设为点亮模式的显示单元C1内,施加维持脉冲才引起维持放电。如图2所示,由放电引起的光通过前玻璃基板10向外部辐射。另一方面,在复位-地址放电单元C2中,形成如图2所示的黑色或暗色的光吸收层18,以阻止由复位和地址放电引起的光向外部辐射。
因此,通过光吸收层18,可以减少由复位和地址放电引起的光向显示表面的漏失量,由此提高显示图像的对比度。在此,为了在复位-地址放电单元C2内引起地址放电,实际上使用恰在此时之前在显示单元C1内引起的维持放电。即,通过显示单元C1内引起的维持放电,产生通过图2所示的间隙r向复位-地址放电单元C2渗漏的带电粒子。这使得可以稳定地在复位-地址放电单元C2内部引起地址放电。
然而,遇到了一个问题:由于大量带电粒子从显示单元到复位-地址放电单元C2涌出,基于显示单元内维持放电的发光的效率降低。
发明内容
为了解决该问题提出了本发明,并且其一个目的是提供一种能够使放电稳定并且提高发光效率的显示设备。
根据本发明,提供了一种显示设备,用于通过根据以输入视频信号为基础的基于像素的像素数据,在形成一个场(field)的多个子场中的每一个子场中引起像素发光,从而显示图像。该显示设备包括:显示板,其具有相对设置且夹有放电空间的前基板和后基板;由介电层覆盖且设置在前基板内表面上的多个行电极对;以及设置为与电极对交叉的多个地址电极,其中电极对和地址电极的各个交叉处形成有一单位发光区域。该单位发光区域具有:第一放电单元和第二放电单元,第二放电单元具有设置在前基板侧的光吸收层;寻址单元,用于在各个子场的地址周期中,在顺序地向行电极对的一个电极施加扫描脉冲时,与扫描脉冲同时地向列电极施加对应于像素数据的像素数据脉冲,从而在第二放电单元内引起地址放电;以及维持单元,用于在各个子场的维持周期中,向行电极对施加维持脉冲,从而在第一放电单元中引起维持放电,其中包括在维持周期中最后施加的维持脉冲在内的N(N:等于或大于2的整数)个连续维持脉冲中的至少一个维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅大于其它维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅。

具体实施方式
在形成一个场的多个子场中的每一个子场中,为了引起像素的连续发光,在维持周期(在其中重复施加维持脉冲)的后段中要施加的维持脉冲中的至少一个具有设为比其它维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅大的脉冲电压振幅。
图3是表示根据本发明的作为显示设备的等离子显示设备的配置的图。
如图3所示,等离子显示设备包括作为等离子显示板的PDP 50、X电极驱动器51、Y电极驱动器53、地址驱动器55和驱动控制电路56。
在PDP 50中,形成有各自沿显示屏幕的垂直方向延伸的多个条形列电极(地址电极)D1-Dm。另外,如图3所示,在PDP 50上,形成有多个条形行电极X1-Xn+1和Y1-Yn,它们以编号的顺序交替地沿显示屏幕的水平方向延伸。在这种情况下,相邻行电极的对(Y1,X2)、(Y2,X3)、(Y3,X4)、...、(Yn,Xn+1)分别用于PDP 50的第一至第n显示线。在显示线和列电极D1-Dm的交叉处(图3中单点链线的区域)分别形成用作像素的单元(以下,称为像素单元)PC。即,在PDP 50上,存在矩阵形式的设置:属于第一显示线的像素单元PC1,1-PC1,m、属于第二显示线的像素单元PC2,1-PC2,m、...、以及属于第n显示线的像素单元PCn,1-PCn,m。
图4至7是从不同方面表示PDP 50的内部结构的部分的图。
具体来说,图4是从显示表面侧观察的平面图。图5是从图4所示的线V1-V1观察的截面图。图6是从图4所示的线V2-V2观察的截面图。图7是从图4所示的线W1-W1观察的截面图。
如图4所示,行电极Y由一总线电极Yb(行电极Y的主体部分)和多个与总线电极Yb相连的透明电极Ya组成,其中总线电极Yb为条形并在显示屏幕的水平(行)方向延伸。例如,由黑色金属膜形成总线电极Yb。透明电极Ya是用诸如ITO的透明导电膜形成的,并且在总线电极Yb上,在与各列电极D相对应的位置处分别设置透明电极Ya。透明电极Ya在与总线电极Yb正交的方向上延伸,并且透明电极Ya的一端和另一端都被构造为如图4所示的加宽形式。即,可以将透明电极Ya理解为从行电极Y的主体部分凸出的凸出电极。同时,行电极X由一总线电极Xb(行电极X的主体部分)和多个与总线电极Xb相连的透明电极Xa组成,其中总线电极Xb为条形并在显示屏幕的水平(行)方向延伸。例如,由黑色金属膜形成总线电极Xb。透明电极Xa是用诸如ITO的透明导电膜形成的,并且在总线电极Xb上,在与各列电极D相对应的位置处分别设置透明电极Xa。透明电极Xa在与总线电极Xb正交的方向上延伸,并且透明电极Xa的一端和另一端被构造为如图4所示的加宽形式。即,可以将透明电极Xa理解为从行电极X的主体部分凸出的凸出电极。如图4所示,将透明电极Xa和Ya的加宽部分设置为通过放电间隙g的预定宽度而彼此相对。即,将透明电极Xa和Ya,作为从成对的行电极X和Y的主体部分凸出的凸出电极,设置为通过放电间隙g彼此相对。
如图5所示,在用作PDP 50的显示表面的前透明基板10的背侧上形成行电极Y(由透明电极Ya和总线电极Yb组成)和行电极X(由透明电极Xa和总线电极Xb组成)。此外,在前透明基板10的背面形成介电层11,以覆盖那些行电极X和Y。在介电层11的表面,在对应于各个选择单元C2(在后文说明)的位置处,形成从介电层11向背侧凸出的凸出介电层12。凸出介电层12是由含有黑色或暗色颜料的条形光吸收层形成的,且如图4所示在显示表面的水平(行)方向延伸。凸出介电层12和没有凸出介电层12的介电层11的表面被未示出的MgO保护层所覆盖。在与前透明基板10平行放置的后基板13上,设置有多个列电极D,其以预定的间隙而彼此平行,并且在与总线电极Xb和Yb正交的方向(列方向)上延伸。在后基板13上,形成白色的列电极保护层(介电层)14覆盖列电极D。在列电极保护层14上形成间隔壁15,间隔壁15包括:第一水平壁15A、第二水平壁15B、和垂直壁15C。在列电极保护层14上与总线电极Xb相对的位置形成第一水平壁15A,将其形成为在显示表面的水平方向延伸。在列电极保护层14上与总线电极Yb相对的位置形成第二水平壁15B,将其形成为在显示表面的水平(行)方向延伸。在等间隔设置于总线电极Xb(Yb)上的透明电极Xa(Ya)之间的位置形成垂直壁15C,将其形成为在与总线电极Xb(Yb)正交的方向延伸。如图5所示,在列电极保护层14上,在与凸出介电层12相对的区域(包括垂直壁15C以及第一和第二水平壁15A和15B的侧表面)中形成二次电子发射材料层30。二次电子发射材料层30是由功函低(例如,4.2eV或更低)但所谓的二次电子发射系数高的高γ材料形成的层。例如,二次电子发射材料层30使用如下材料:诸如MgO,CaO,SrO和BaO的碱土金属氧化物;诸如Cs2O的碱金属氧化物;诸如CaF2和MgF2的氟化物;TiO2和Y2O;通过晶体缺陷或者杂质掺杂而增大了二次电子发射系数的材料;或者其它类似材料。同时,如图5所示,在列电极保护层14上,在除了与凸出介电层12相对的区域以外的其它区域中(包括垂直壁15C以及第一和第二水平壁15A和15B的侧表面),形成荧光层16。荧光层16包括固定地分配给像素单元PC的三种荧光层:用于红色发光的红色荧光层、用于绿色发光的绿色荧光层、以及用于蓝色发光的蓝色荧光层。在二次电子发射材料层30及荧光层16和介电层11之间存在充有放电气体的放电空间。如图5和7所示,第一和第二水平壁15A、15B以及垂直壁15C的高度不至接触到凸出介电层12或者介电层11的表面。因此,如图5所示,在第二水平壁15B和凸出介电层12之间存在间隙r,使得放电气体可以流通。然而,在第一水平壁15A和凸出介电层12之间形成有介电层17,其在沿第一水平壁15A的方向延伸,从而防止放电气体的串扰。同时,如图6所示,在垂直壁15C和凸出介电层12之间,在沿垂直壁15C的方向,断续地形成有介电层18。
在此,提供由第一水平壁15A和垂直壁15C包围的区域(图4中的单点链线表示的区域)作为用作像素的像素单元PC。如图4和5所示,由第二水平壁15B将像素单元PC划分为显示放电单元C1和选择放电单元C2。如图4和5所示,显示放电单元C1包括:用作一条显示线的一对行电极X和Y的透明电极Xa和Ya;以及荧光层16。同时,选择放电单元C2包括凸出介电层12、二次电子发射材料层30、与一条显示线相对应的一对行电极中的行电极Y、以及与相应显示线上方的相邻显示线相对应的电极对中的行电极X的总线电极Xb。另外,如图4所示,设置在透明电极Xa的加宽部分和透明电极Xb的加宽部分之间的放电间隙g位于显示放电单元C1内的总线电极Xb和总线电极Yb之间的中间位置。
如图5所示,在显示表面的垂直方向(图5中的左-右方向)上彼此相邻的相邻像素单元PC各自的放电空间由第一水平壁15A和介电层17所隔断。然而,如图5所示,属于同一像素单元PC的显示放电单元C1和选择放电单元C2各自的放电空间通过间隙r连通。此外,如图6所示,在显示表面的左-右方向上相互邻近的选择单元C2各自的放电空间被凸出介电层12和介电层18所隔断。然而,在显示表面的左-右方向上相互邻近的显示单元C1各自的放电空间彼此连通。
这样,PDP 50中形成的像素单元PC1,1-PCn,m都分别构造有显示放电单元C1和选择放电单元C2,所述显示放电单元C1和选择放电单元C2各自的放电空间彼此连通。
X电极驱动器51根据从驱动控制电路56提供的定时信号,向PDP 50的行电极X1-Xn+1施加各种脉冲(以后说明)。Y电极驱动器53根据从驱动控制电路56提供的定时信号,向PDP 50的行电极Y1-Yn施加各种脉冲(以后说明)。地址驱动器55根据从驱动控制电路56提供的定时信号,向PDP 50的列电极D1-Dm施加像素数据脉冲(以后说明)。
驱动控制电路56首先将输入视频信号转换成例如表示各个像素的亮度等级的8比特像素数据,并且对像素数据执行误差扩散处理(errordiffusion process)和抖动处理(dither process)。例如,在误差扩散处理中,首先将像素数据的高6位作为显示数据,而将其余的低2位作为误差数据。对与各周边像素对应的图像数据的误差数据进行加权求和,从而反映到显示数据中。通过该操作,以伪表示方法(pseudo-representationfashion)通过周边像素来表示原始像素的低2位的亮度。因此,通过使用少于8位的6位显示数据,可以使得亮度色调表示(luminance tonalexpression)等同于8位的像素数据。对由误差扩散处理得到的6位的误差扩散像素数据执行抖动处理。在抖动处理中,将多个相互临近的像素作为一个像素单位。通过分别指定数值不同的抖动系数,将与一个像素单位中各个像素相应的误差扩散像素数据进行相加,从而获得抖动相加的像素数据。根据该抖动系数相加,从1像素单位上看,可以通过仅仅使用该抖动相加的像素数据的高4位来表示对应于8位的亮度。因此,驱动控制电路56提取该抖动相加的像素数据的高4位,作为多调(multi-toned)或多灰度(multi-gradation)像素数据PD。根据图8所示的数据转换表,将PD转换为包括第一至第15位的15位像素驱动数据GD。从而,如图8所示,将能够用8位来表示256级的像素数据转换为15位像素驱动数据GD的总共16种模式。随后,驱动控制电路56根据分别与像素单元PC1,1-PCn,m对应的像素驱动数据GD1,1-GDn,m,将像素驱动数据GD1,1-GDn,m在同样的位置处分开,从而获得如下的像素驱动数据位组DB1-DB15:

在此,如图9所示,驱动控制电路56在组成视频信号场的15个子场SF1-SF15中的每一个中,对X电极驱动器51、Y电极驱动器53和地址驱动器55进行基于地址周期W和维持周期I(下文中提到)的驱动控制。在这段持续时间中,驱动控制电路56在每个子场SF1-SF15中的地址周期W中每次一条显示线(m个)地向地址驱动器55提供与相关子场SF对应的像素驱动数据位组DB。驱动控制电路56只有在起始子场SF1中才执行基于地址周期W之前的复位周期R(下文中提到)的驱动控制,并且只有在最后的子场SF15中才执行基于紧随维持周期I之后的擦除周期E(下文中提到)的驱动控制。
图10是表示X电极驱动器51、Y电极驱动器53和地址驱动器55根据上述驱动控制的执行而施加给PDP 50的各种驱动信号的图。另外,图10仅仅示出了图9所示的子场SF1-SF15中的起始子场SF1。
首先,在复位周期R中,X电极驱动器51产生正极性的复位脉冲RPX并将其同时施加到PDP 50的行电极X1-Xn+1。在复位脉冲RPX的施加期间,如图10所示,Y电极驱动器53产生减速下降的负极性复位脉冲RPY并将其同时施加到PDP 50的行电极Y1-Yn。在此期间,地址驱动器55产生正极性的复位脉冲RPD并将其同时施加到列电极D1-Dm。
通过施加复位脉冲RPD、RPX和RPY,在PDP 50的每个像素单元PC的选择放电单元C2内,在列电极D和行电极Y之间处引起复位放电(写放电)。在选择放电单元C2内形成壁上电荷。另外,通过施加复位脉冲RPD、RPX和RPY,列电极D被置为相对于行电极X和Y的阳极。随后,复位放电通过图5所示间隙r向显示放电单元C1移动,以在显示放电单元C1内的电极Y和X之间引起放电。通过放电的移动,在每个像素单元PC的显示放电单元C1内形成壁上电荷。
这样,在复位周期R中,在PDP 50的每个像素单元PC的显示放电单元C1内形成壁上电荷,以将每个像素单元PC初始化为点亮单元模式。
随后,在地址周期W中,Y电极驱动器53在向所有行电极Y1-Yn施加正极性电压V1的同时,顺序地向行电极Y1-Yn施加具有正极性电压V2(V2>V1)的扫描脉冲SP。在此期间,X电极驱动器51将行电极X1-Xn+1置为0V。地址驱动器55将与子场SF对应的像素驱动数据位组DB的每个数据位转换为像素数据脉冲DP,该像素数据脉冲DP具有与数据位的逻辑电平对应的脉冲电压。例如,地址驱动器55一方面将逻辑电平为0的像素驱动数据位转换为正极性且高电压的像素数据脉冲DP,另一方面,将逻辑电平为1的像素驱动数据位转换为低电压(0伏特)的像素数据脉冲DP。与扫描脉冲SP的施加定时同步地,每次一条显示线(m个)地向列电极D1-Dm施加上述的像素数据脉冲DP。即,地址驱动器55首先向列电极D1-Dm施加像素数据脉冲组DP1,该像素数据脉冲组DP1包括与第一显示线对应的数量为m的像素数据脉冲DP,然后向列电极D1-Dm施加像素数据脉冲组DP2,其包括与第二显示线对应的数量为m的像素数据脉冲DP。在这种情况下,在同时向其施加了具有正极性电压V2的扫描脉冲SP和具有低电压(0伏特)的像素数据脉冲DP的像素单元PC的选择放电单元C2内的列电极D和行电极Y之间引起擦除地址放电。由于该擦除地址放电,放电通过图5中的间隙r向显示放电单元C1移动。因此,在显示放电单元C1内的行电极Y和X之间引起放电。通过如上所述的放电从选择放电单元C2到显示放电单元C1的移动,显示放电单元C1内形成的壁上电荷消失。另一方面,在施加扫描脉冲SP的同时向其施加了高电压像素数据脉冲DP的像素单元PC的选择放电单元C2内不发生上述的擦除地址放电。因此,由于没有发生如上所述的这种从选择放电单元C2到显示放电单元C1的放电移动,显示放电单元C1内的壁上电荷原样保持其形成状态。即,在壁上电荷存在于显示放电单元C1内部的情况下,仍然保持原样。在其不存在于显示放电单元C1内部的情况下,保持壁上电荷的未形成状态。
这样,在地址周期W中,根据与子场相对应的像素驱动数据位组的数据位,在像素单元PC的选择放电单元C2内选择性地引起擦除地址放电,从而擦除壁上电荷。这将其上保留有壁上电荷的像素单元PC设置为点亮单元模式,而把除去了壁上电荷的像素单元PC设置为关闭单元模式。
随后,在维持周期I中,X电极驱动器51反复地向行电极X1-Xn+1施加负极性的维持脉冲IPX,同时Y电极驱动器53反复地向行电极Y1-Yn施加负极性的维持脉冲IPY。此外,如图10所示,在维持周期I内最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE具有脉冲电压振幅VS2,VS2比在那时之前施加的那些维持脉冲IPY和IPX的脉冲电压振幅VS1高出大约10-50伏特。同时,在各个子场的维持周期I中,维持脉冲IPX和IPY被施加了为相应维持周期I所属的子场指定的次数。当施加维持脉冲IPX或IPY(包括IPYE)时,被设置为点亮单元模式的像素单元PC的显示放电单元C1内的透明电极Xa和Ya之间引起维持放电。由于该维持放电引起的紫外线,如图5所示,引起了显示放电单元C1内形成的荧光层16(红色荧光层、绿色荧光层、和蓝色荧光层)中的激励,从而引起与荧光颜色对应的穿过前透明基板10的辐射。即,基于维持放电,按照为维持周期I所属的子场指定的次数反复地引起发光。以与所述次数相称的亮度获得视觉感觉。即,根据图8所示的像素驱动数据GD的16种模式来进行驱动,仅仅在子场SF1-SF15之一的地址周期W中引起擦除地址放电(以实心圆表示),以使得像素单元PC进入关闭单元模式。即,在各个像素单元PC中,在从在起始子场SF1的复位周期R中设置为点亮单元模式直到在子场SF1-SF15中任何一个的地址周期W中设置为关闭单元模式的时间段中,根据维持放电,按照指定给子场的次数反复地引起发光(以空心圆表示)。在这种情况下,以与基于一个子场内引起的维持放电的发光的总次数对应的亮度获得视觉感觉。从而,根据基于如图8所示的第1至第16灰度等级驱动的16种发光模式,16个等级中的中间亮度(对应于由空心圆表示的子场中引起的维持放电的总次数)得以表现。
在此,维持脉冲IPX和IPY具有设置为相对较小振幅的脉冲电压振幅VS1,从而带电粒子不会因为由施加维持脉冲引起的维持放电而向选择放电单元C2扩散。从而,因为消除了显示放电单元C1的放电空间内形成的带电粒子由于维持放电而导致的流出,所以可以提高发光效率。通过为维持脉冲IPX和IPY设置相对较小的脉冲电压振幅,可以抑制介电层11由于维持放电而劣化,从而可以增长PDP 50的寿命。而且,将维持周期I中最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE的振幅VS2增大至以下程度:由维持放电形成的带电粒子可以通过如图5所示的间隙r向选择放电单元C2扩散。从而,因为带电粒子仍可恰在下一个子场SF的地址周期W之前保留在选择放电单元C2的放电空间中,所以在地址周期W中可以稳定地引起地址放电。
此外,在图10所示的实施例中,为了使显示放电单元C1中形成的带电粒子向选择放电单元C2扩散,为将在维持周期I中最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE设置脉冲电压振幅VS2,该脉冲电压振幅VS2大于在那时之前施加的维持脉冲IPY的振幅VS1。然而,这不是限制性的。
例如,如图11所示,可以为将在维持周期I中最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE设置脉冲电压振幅VS1,同时可以为恰在维持脉冲IPYE之前施加的维持脉冲IPY设置大于振幅VS1的脉冲电压振幅VS2。同时,如图12所示,可以仅为将在维持周期I中最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE和恰在那时之前施加的维持脉冲IPY设置脉冲电压振幅VS2。
简单地说,令人满意地,为在包括将在维持周期I中最后施加的维持脉冲IPYE的连续N(N:等于或者大于2的整数)个维持脉冲IPY中的至少一个脉冲设置大于其它维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅的电压振幅。
同时,虽然图10-11所示的实施例采用如下驱动:将列电极D作为相对于行电极Y的负极性,从而引起地址放电,由此可以向行电极施加负极性的维持脉冲以引起维持放电,但是在驱动中可以翻转极性。即,可以相对地将列电极D作为正极性侧从而引起复位和地址放电,由此可以施加正极性的维持脉冲IP以引起维持放电。
在上述实施例中,采用诸如X-Y、X-Y、X-Y、X-Y的排列作为PDP 50的行电极对的排列,分别对应于PDP 50的第一至第n条显示线。然而,排列可以是诸如X-Y、Y-X、X-Y、Y-X。在这种情况下,属于奇数线的像素单元PC内的选择放电单元C2和属于偶数线的像素单元PC内的选择放电单元C2被设置为彼此相邻。

1、一种显示设备,用于根据以输入视频信号为基础的基于像素的像素数据,通过在形成一个场的多个子场中的每一个子场中引起像素发光,从而显示图像,该显示设备包括:
显示板,其具有:相对设置且夹有放电空间的前基板和后基板、由介电层覆盖且设置在前基板内表面的多个行电极对、以及设置为与电极对交叉的多个地址电极,其中电极对和地址电极的各个交叉处形成有单位发光区域,该单位发光区域具有第一放电单元和第二放电单元,第二放电单元具有设置在前基板侧的光吸收层;
寻址单元,用于在各个子场的地址周期中,在顺序地向行电极对中的一个电极施加扫描脉冲时,与扫描脉冲同时地向列电极施加与像素数据对应的像素数据脉冲,从而在第二放电单元内引起地址放电;以及
维持单元,用于在各个子场的维持周期中,向行电极对施加维持脉冲,从而在第一放电单元中引起维持放电;
其中,包括要在维持周期中最后施加的维持脉冲在内的N个连续维持脉冲中的至少一个维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅高于其它维持脉冲的脉冲电压振幅,N是等于或大于2的整数。
2、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,还包括第二放电单元的设置在后基板上的二次电子发射材料层。
3、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,还包括复位单元,用于恰在地址周期之前向行电极对中的一个行电极以及列电极施加复位脉冲,该复位脉冲具有的脉冲电压将列电极置于相对正极性,从而引起第二放电单元内的复位放电,
寻址单元产生扫描脉冲和像素数据脉冲,扫描脉冲具有的脉冲电压将列电极置于相对负极性,维持单元产生负极性的维持脉冲。
4、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中第一放电单元和第二放电单元在单位发光区域内具有各自的彼此连通的放电部分,
寻址单元将第二放电单元中引起的地址放电扩散到第一放电单元,从而将第一放电单元设置为点亮模式和关闭模式中的一种状态,所述点亮模式允许在维持周期中维持放电,而所述关闭模式不允许在维持周期中维持放电。
5、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中在第一放电单元包括的一个部分中,行电极对中的一个行电极和另一行电极通过放电空间内的第一放电间隙而彼此相对,
在第二放电单元包括的一个部分中,所述一个行电极和所述列电极通过放电空间内的第二放电间隙而彼此相对。
6、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中行电极对中的一个行电极和另一行电极各自具有主体部分和凸出部分,主体部分在行方向延伸,凸出部分在各个单位发光区域中通过第一放电间隙相对并在列方向从主体部分凸出,
在第一放电单元包括的一个部分中,凸出部分通过放电空间内的第一放电间隙而彼此相对,在第二放电单元包括的一个部分中,所述一个行电极的主体部分和所述列电极通过放电空间内的第二放电间隙而彼此相对。
7、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中显示板具有间隔壁和分隔壁,该间隔壁具有垂直壁和水平壁,垂直壁在行方向上限定彼此相邻的单位发光区域的放电空间,而垂直壁在列方向上对其限定,并且分隔壁对单位发光区域内的第一放电单元的放电部分和第二放电单元的放电部分之间的分隔进行限定,
由间隔壁将各单位发光区域的第二放电单元的放电部分相对于相邻单位发光区域的放电部分封闭起来,行方向上相邻的单位发光区域的第一放电单元的放电部分彼此连通,其中单位发光区域内的第一放电单元的放电部分彼此连通。
8、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中仅仅在第一放电单元内形成用于在放电状态下发光的荧光层。
9、根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中单位发光区域内的第一放电单元和第二放电单元各自的放电部分彼此连通,
包括将在维持周期中最后施加的维持脉冲在内的N个连续维持脉冲中的至少一个维持脉冲具有如下程度的脉冲电压振幅:通过施加该维持脉冲而引起的维持放电从第一放电单元扩散到第二放电单元,另一方面,
其它维持脉冲具有如下程度的脉冲电压振幅:通过施加该维持脉冲而引起的维持放电停留在第一放电单元内。
