Abstract

矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,既改善扫描电极的选择比,也大幅度减少电压值的变化,具体作法是令扫描电极驱动信号按正交函数彼此重叠,再顺次将其加到毗邻的扫描电极上。通过维持重叠期间的中间电压电平使数据电极驱动信号的电压电平变化,然后将其加到各数据电极上。不然也可将极性相反的扫描电极信号定期加到毗邻的各扫描电极上。这样,既改善扫描电极的选择比,又最大限度地减少波形差异的产生,从而减少图像中产生的串扰。

Description

液晶显示器的驱动方法
技术领域
本发明涉及一种矩阵液晶显示器(LCD)的驱动方法,这种驱动方法既改善了扫描电极的选择比,又显著地减小了电压值的变化。
背景技术
矩阵液晶显示器主要由许多控制着显示器的扫描线的扫描电极所组成。矩阵液晶显示器在选择各扫描线时控制着显示在各像素上的数据电极。采用使用多路传输的行序驱动法的电压平均法被标定为简单的矩阵LCD驱动法。然而,这种方法是只有在液晶响应慢,即LCD的响应时间在400毫秒左右时,在不失去图像对比度的前提下使用的。因此,在要求高速响应特性即要求对计算机鼠标的转移速度或对动画显示速度快速响应的领域,都采用多行扫描(MLS)法或主动寻址((AA)(active adaress))法。
首先,按照行序驱动法,依次将所选取的脉冲加到各行来驱动各扫描电极。图1A至图1D是2×6个像素组成的简单矩阵LCD借助使用行序驱动法的电压平均法驱动时扫描电极和数据电极驱动信号和按扫描和数据电极驱动信号加到各像素上的信号的波形图。按照行序驱动法,电压Vs的脉冲(扫描电极驱动信号)依次加到扫描电极1、2、3、4、5和6上,如图1A所示,电压+Vd和-Vd的脉冲(数据电极驱动信号)加到数据电极1和2上。因此,如图1D中所示,LCD由图1C所示的像素信号(电压Vd、2Vd、3Vd和-Vd)所驱动,这些像素信号是通过求出电压Vs和Vd的平均值形成的。这时,各扫描电极的选择比由显示器的驱动占空率确定。这样,若LCD的响应变快,图像的对比度就因帧响应而降低。因此,这种方法用在图像转移速度要求快的器具(例如计算机的鼠标)实际上有困难。
此外,由于加到数据电极的数据电极驱动信号的电压本身很大,因而电压切换的间距极大,从而使加到非选取的扫描电极上的电压波形有差别,使图像中产生串扰。
其次,如图2中所示,按照MLS法或AA法,同时选取多个扫描电极然后顺次加以驱动。图2示出了LCD用AA法予以驱动时加到扫描电极和数据电极上的信号。从图2中可以看到,按照AA法,在时间t同时选取多个扫描电极F1至F5,然后加以驱动。在此时间t,等于-cF1(t)+cF2(t)-cF3(t)+cF4(t)+cF5(t)的数据电极驱动信号G1(t)加到数据电极G1,于是两个像素“接通”。
这种方法的好处是,可以通过同时驱动多个电极应用到因LCD的占空因数增加而快速响应的LCD。然而,这种方法要求许多数据电压电平。此外还要求另外供屏面数据用的存储器和操作电路,从而提高驱动装置的造价。
发明内容
本发明的目的就是要解决上述问题,提供驱动矩阵LCD的一种方法,从而既改善了扫描电极的选择比又减小了显示的屏面上的串扰,具体作法是在改变数据电极驱动信号时减小非选取的扫描电极上产生的波形差异的电压。
为达到上述目的,本发明提供的一种矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,它包括下列步骤:
驱动各扫描电极,即往各所述扫描电极依次加上正交函数扫描电极驱动信号,该信号由选择脉冲和补偿脉冲混合组成,补偿脉冲宽度比选择脉冲窄预定的宽度,且二者极性相反,因而加到毗邻扫描电极的扫描电极驱动信号的选择脉冲彼此重叠预定的间隔;和
驱动各数据电极,即往液晶显示器面板的各所述数据电极上加极性彼此相反、电压电平相同的脉冲组成的数据电极驱动信号,其中所述数据电极驱动信号通过在重叠间隔内保持预定的中间电压电平,加到施加于毗邻扫描电极的各选择脉冲的间隔,从而使所述数据电极驱动信号的脉冲电压电平通过所述重叠间隔的所述预定中间电压电平而发生变化。
在本发明的扫描电极驱动步骤中,以不选择扫描电极时驱动信号的电压电平为基础,选择脉冲电压电平的绝对值最好与补偿脉冲电压电平的相同。
数据电极驱动步骤中数据电极驱动信号预定的中间电压电平与不选择扫描电极驱动信号时的中间电压电平相同。
在数据电极驱动步骤中,以不选择扫描电极驱动信号的电压电平为基础,数据电极驱动信号脉冲电压电平的绝对值最好比扫描电极驱动信号的选取或补偿脉冲的电压电平的绝对值小预定的电平。
在扫描电极驱动步骤中,扫描电极驱动信号最好从选择脉冲至补偿脉冲或从补偿脉冲至选择脉冲的顺序混合使用。
在扫描电极驱动步骤中,扫描电极驱动信号最好从补偿脉冲至选择脉冲且至补偿脉冲的顺序混合使用。
在扫描电极驱动步骤中,扫描电极驱动信号最好重叠具有选择脉冲和补偿脉冲的信号的总周期的半个周期。
在扫描电极驱动步骤中,扫描电极驱动信号最好按交替驱动以半个总信号周期的单位改变其极性或预定比例改变其极性。
在扫描电极驱动步骤中,极性与扫描电极驱动信号的选择脉冲和补偿脉冲相反且选择脉冲和补偿脉冲混合起来的扫描电极驱动信号定期按预定顺序加到各扫描电极上,以便维持电压变化的平衡。

图3示出了本发明用正交函数信号驱动各扫描电极时扫描电极和数据电极驱动信号的波形。
具体实施方式
图3中,由三个+Vs脉冲电压和一个-Vs脉冲电压组成的扫描电极驱动信号在两个扫描电极(图3各扫描电极N-1、N、N+1和N+3中的每两个扫描电极)按例如(1,2)、(2,3)、(3,4)……顺序重叠整个选择周期的半个周期,即一行的时间。因此,所有的扫描电极是在与其毗邻的各电极重叠的情况下驱动的,但只有一个电极没有单独驱动。
从图3可以看到,采用扫描电极驱动方法,数据电极驱动信号的电压电平是经基准电压(V0)的中间电压电平而变化的。因此,数据电极驱动信号的电压电平不是象采用传统行序驱动方法时那样改变了2Vd,而是改变了Vd。这样,相邻的非选取的各扫描电极产生的波形差异较小,因而大大减小了图像中产生的串扰。此外,扫描电极驱动信号的极性可能以交替驱动的行时间的单位变化。在此情况下,数据电极驱动信号的极性也发生变化。所以,用交替驱动法可以校正LCD象素的工作频率。
图3示出了本发明的实施例,其中扫描电极驱动信号全都是处于高-高-高-低电平。然而,为了维持电压变化的平衡以便最大限度地减小对各数据电极产生波形差异的影响,可以采用低-低-低-高的信号组合。虽然附图中没有示出,但在本发明的另一个实施例中,扫描电极驱动信号可以取低-高-高-高或高-低-低-低的顺序。在本实施例中,补偿脉冲领先选择脉冲。
综上所述,按照本发明的LCD驱动方法,令扫描电极驱动信号彼此正交函数地重叠,然后顺次加到毗邻的各扫描电极上,且令数据电极驱动信号通过维持重叠间隔的中间电压电平的步骤改变其电压电平,再将其加到各数据电极上;不然也可以定期将极性相反的扫描电极驱动信号加到毗邻的各扫描电极上。这样就改善了扫描电极的选择比,最大限度地减小波形差异的产生,从而减小了图像中产生的串扰。

Claims (10)

1.一种矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,它包括下列步骤:
驱动各扫描电极,即往各所述扫描电极依次加上正交函数扫描电极驱动信号,该信号由选择脉冲和补偿脉冲混合组成,补偿脉冲宽度比选择脉冲窄预定的宽度,且二者极性相反,因而加到毗邻扫描电极的扫描电极驱动信号的选择脉冲彼此重叠预定的间隔;和
驱动各数据电极,即往液晶显示器面板的各所述数据电极上加极性彼此相反、电压电平相同的脉冲组成的数据电极驱动信号,其中所述数据电极驱动信号通过在重叠间隔内保持预定的中间电压电平,加到施加于毗邻扫描电极的各选择脉冲的间隔,从而使所述数据电极驱动信号的脉冲电压电平通过所述重叠间隔的所述预定中间电压电平而发生变化。
2.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,以不选择所述扫描电极时的驱动信号的电压电平为基础,所述选择脉冲电压电平的绝对值与所述补偿脉冲电压电平的相同。
3.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述数据电极驱动步骤中,数据电极驱动信号的预定中间电压电平与不选择扫描电极驱动信号时的中间电压电平相同。
4.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述数据电极驱动步骤中,以不选择所述扫描电极驱动信号时的电压电平为基础,所述数据电极驱动信号脉冲的电压电平的绝对值比所述扫描电极驱动信号的选择脉冲或补偿脉冲的电压电平的绝对值小预定的电平。
5.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,所述扫描电极驱动信号从所述选择脉冲至所述补偿脉冲的顺序混合使用。
6.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,所述扫描驱动信号从所述补偿脉冲至所述选择脉冲的顺序混合使用。
7.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,所述扫描电极驱动信号重叠具有所述选择脉冲和所述补偿脉冲的信号的总周期的半个周期。
8.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,所述扫描电极驱动信号以交替驱动的每半个总信号周期为单位改变其极性。
9.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,所述扫描电极驱动信号按交替驱动的预定比例改变其极性。
10.如权利要求1所述的矩阵液晶显示器的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述扫描电极驱动步骤中,极性与所述扫描电极驱动信号的所述选择脉冲和补偿脉冲相反的扫描电极驱动信号定期按预定顺序加到各所述扫描电极上以便维持电压变化的平衡。
