使用专用数据信道将电子节目指南(EPG)信息传递到机顶盒(STB)。所述EPG信息可包含(但不限于)节目的经调度呈现开始及/或结束时间、节目频道及描述性信息。节目的描述性信息可包含节目的标题、表演者或演员的姓名、创建日期及/或描述节目的情节或剧情的概要。任何适合信息可包含于节目信息中。

因此,需要实现EPG信息的更高效且更快速的获取。
发明内容
揭示经由反向信道链路接入电子节目指南(EPG)的系统及方法。示范性实施例具有:节目内容流接口,其经配置以接收至少一个节目频道及其中具有EPG信息的第一部分的EPG数据信道;反向信道接口,其经配置以建立到远程EPG内容系统的通信链路且经配置以接收EPG信息的第二部分;及处理器系统,其通信地耦合到所述节目内容流接口及所述反向信道接口。所述处理器系统从EPG信息的所述第一部分及EPG信息的所述第二部分构造EPG。

示范性媒体装置102经配置以经由适合控制装置(例如但不限于示范性远程控制件136)从观看者接收指令。远程控制件136包含一个或一个以上控制器138。观看者通过致动控制器138中的一者或一者以上而致使远程控制件136产生指令并经由无线信号140将所述指令发射到媒体装置102以控制在EPG 142上展示的信息的呈现。替代地或另外,媒体装置102本身可具有位于其上的一个或一个以上控制器,所述控制器经配置以从观看者接收指令。因此,观看者可输入使EPG接入系统100产生并在可用显示器上呈现EPG 142的指令。
将通常由观看者使用来自远程控制件136的命令而选择的选定感兴趣节目从节目缓冲器114或DVR 116流式输出到呈现装置接口118。呈现装置接口118通信地耦合到具有显示器148的媒体呈现装置146。因此,将选定感兴趣节目从呈现装置接口118传递到媒体呈现装置146。选定节目的视频部分在显示器148上呈现且音频部分经由扬声器 (未展示)提供。媒体呈现装置146的非限制性实例为电视。
偶尔地,观看者将希望在其媒体呈现装置146上观看EPG 142。因此,从存储器112中检索EPG信息126并从EPG信息126构造EPG 142且经由呈现装置接口118将EPG142传递到媒体呈现装置146。为使EPG 142成为对用户有用的工具,EPG信息需要为当前的。也就是说,当前可用节目编排及经调度以用于进一步呈现的节目编排必须可在EPG 142中呈现。EPG接入系统100的实施例使媒体装置102能够接入远程EPG内容系统106,以便可从远程EPG内容系统106中检索节目信息并将所述节目信息并入到所显示的EPG 142中。
媒体装置102包含反向信道接口122。反向信道接口122经配置以经由反向信道系统104通信地耦合媒体装置102与远程EPG内容系统106。反向信道接口122可为可操作以经由通信网络144通信的任何适合通信装置或系统。
将通信网络144图解说明为类属通信系统。在一个实施例中,通信网络144包括因特网。因此,反向信道接口122为调制解调器或其它类型的因特网通信装置。或者,通信网络144可为电话系统、射频(RF)无线系统、微波通信系统、光纤系统、内联网系统、局部接入网络(LAN)系统、以太网系统、有线电视系统、射频系统、蜂窝式系统、红外线系统、卫星系统或由多种类型的通信媒体构成的混合系统。在此些实施例中,反向信道接口122经配置以在视需要的基础上建立与通信网络144的通信链路等,且经配置以经由其耦合到的特定类型的通信网络144进行通信。
非限制性示范性远程EPG内容系统106包括处理器系统150、反向信道接口152及存储器154。存储器154的一部分存储当前EPG信息156。用当前节目调度信息及其它信息选择性地更新当前EPG信息156。所述更新可周期性地或在新的EPG信息变得可用时发生。可以任何适合方式更新当前EPG信息156。
在各种实施例中,当前EPG信息156经结构化以便可经由反向信道系统104供媒体装置102使用。因此,当在媒体装置102的反向信道接口122与远程EPG内容系统106的反向信道接口152之间建立链路时,媒体装置102可接入存储于远程EPG内容系统106处的当前EPG信息156。
在示范性实施例中,反向信道系统104为基于因特网的通信系统。因此,远程EPG内容系统106的反向信道接口152为服务器或类服务器装置,其从web浏览器代理程序(此处为媒体装置102)接受使用超文本传送协议(HTTP)请求的命令及信息。在示范性实施例中,媒体装置102的反向信道接口122为调制解调器或类调制解调器装置。浏览器128使媒体装置102能够接入远程EPG内容系统106处的当前EPG信息156。
可使用适合视频数据标准(例如但不限于移动图片专家组(MPEG)数字视频广播(DVB)标准或美国电视标准委员会(ATSC)标准)对远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156进行格式化。因此,使用可由媒体装置102中的浏览器128选择性地接入的共用因特网协议(IP)格式来编码EPG信息。举例来说,可使用HTTP或XML格式。
在基于因特网的环境中,媒体装置102经由通信网络144(例如但不限于万维网(WWW))建立到远程EPG内容系统106的链路。所建立的反向信道系统104可为持久连接。可能持久型连接的非限制性实例为HTTP保活型(keep-alive)或HTTP连接再用型(connection reuse)。在其它实施例中,尤其是在可快速建立反向信道系统104的情况下,在视需要的基础上建立反向信道系统104。
在一些实施例中,媒体装置102的激活起始在媒体装置102的反向信道接口122与远程EPG内容系统106的反向信道接口152之间建立链路。将来自远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156的EPG信息更新推动到媒体装置102。将所接收的EPG更新并入及/或保存到媒体装置102的当前EPG信息126中。然而,如果所述更新为广泛的,那么可需要显著的时间量来将完整的EPG更新从远程EPG内容系统106传送到媒体装置102。
举例来说,可在启动时间启动媒体装置102。基于启动时间,将EPG信息推动到媒体装置102。EPG信息在实质上所述启动时间开始,例如在最近的前面一小时或半小时。所推动的EPG信息包含调度到在启动时间或最近的前面一小时或半小时之后的某一预定义时间的节目的节目信息。为了说明,假设在8:15p.m.启动媒体装置。将在8:00p.m.开始且在12:00a.m.结束的EPG信息推动到媒体装置102。因此,跨越四小时周期的EPG信息可用于构造EPG 142。预定义时间周期可在媒体装置102处规定且传递到远程EPG内容系统106、可经预定义且保存于远程EPG内容系统106处,或者可为在EPG接入逻辑124中编码的时间。
在一些实施例中,媒体装置102“选择”哪一者为其需要的最直接相关的EPG信息。媒体装置102接着“拉动”感兴趣EPG信息且将选定的感兴趣EPG更新并入及/或保存到媒体装置102的当前EPG信息126中。举例来说,观看者可能正在其媒体呈现装置146上观看节目频道“x”。此处,媒体装置102选择当前所观看节目频道“x”的EPG更新并从远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156拉动所述EPG信息。当观看者改变到另一节目频道时,媒体装置102会选择新选择的节目频道的EPG更新并从远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156拉动所述EPG信息。
在一些实施例中,整个EPG信息驻存在远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156 中且可在动态基础上来填充。与经由EPG数据信道提供的整个EPG信息轮播几乎一样,媒体装置102从远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156接收所有其EPG信息。当在媒体装置102处接收到整体的EPG信息时,可断开或结束反向信道系统104。此处,可智能地确定EPG信息的检索的方式及次序。举例来说,可首先检索当前所收看节目频道及/或最喜爱节目频道的EPG信息。另外或替代地,可首先检索最当前的EPG信息,之后检索稍后调度的节目编排的EPG信息。
远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156可包含观看者可感兴趣的补充信息。举例来说,额外节目描述信息可包含关于节目情节或剧情的额外信息、与节目演员或演奏者有关的额外信息,且/或可提供关于相关节目编排的信息。通常,此补充信息太庞大而不能与EPG信息一起包含在EPG信息轮播中。将补充信息存储于媒体装置102中的存储器要求可太昂贵以致不能证明存储器成本为合理的。接收包含EPG中所描述的每个节目的补充信息的整个EPG信息轮播的时间可太长以致为不实际的。因此,在观看者正选择用于当前观看的特定节目及/或节目频道时,媒体装置102选择当前所观看节目频道“x”的EPG补充信息并从远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156拉动所述EPG信息。EPG补充信息可并入到媒体装置102的当前EPG信息126中或者可暂时存储到存储器112中或存储到另一适合存储器(未展示)中。
在其中反向信道系统104实现高速通信的一些实施例中,可在动态基础上填充远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156。因此,不使用存储器112中的永久存储器存储容量来存储EPG信息。在此些实施例中,不再使用EPG信息轮播且消除EPG数据信道132。因此,媒体装置102可操作以在动态实时基础或近实时基础上检索感兴趣EPG信息。举例来说,在观看者正起始在媒体呈现装置146上呈现EPG 142时,可从自远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156拉动的信息构造EPG 142。在观看者浏览所显示的EPG 142时,检索额外EPG信息。
在一些实施例中,可减小整个EPG信息轮播的大小。举例来说,可将整个EPG信息轮播的大小减小到几天、一天或甚至几小时。在媒体装置102的操作开始时及/或在观看者浏览EPG 142使得需要超过EPG信息轮播所覆盖的时间周期的EPG信息时,可检索远程EPG内容系统106的当前EPG信息156。也就是说,可视需要接入超过EPG信息轮播所覆盖的时间的时间周期。因此,需要存储器112的较少存储器容量来存储整个EPG信息轮播。此外,检索整个EPG信息轮播的时间可显著降低,因为由于EPG信息轮播所囊括的时间周期较短而包含较少节目信息。
应强调,EPG接入系统100的上述实施例仅为本发明的实施方案的可能实例。可对上述实施例做出许多变化及修改形式。本文打算将所有此些修改及变化形式包含于本发明的范围内且由以上权利要求书保护。

Claims (18)

1.一种用于通过媒体装置接入电子节目指南EPG信息的方法,所述方法包括:
在所述媒体装置处,接收至少一个广播节目内容流,其中所述至少一个广播节目内容流包括EPG信息轮播,所述EPG信息轮播描述预定义周期内多个节目频道上可用的多个节目,其中在所述至少一个广播节目内容流中将所述EPG信息轮播周期性地广播到所述媒体装置,其中以串行格式将所述EPG信息格式化;
在接收EPG信息轮播期间,在所述媒体装置的存储器中存储接收到的EPG信息轮播;
接收指令以在显示器上呈现EPG,其中所述EPG是用以呈现识别节目的信息以及在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道,其中所述当前时间周期比所述EPG信息轮播的预定义周期短;
接入所存储的EPG信息轮播,以获取识别所述节目的信息和在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道;
当识别所述节目的信息和在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道不可用时,在所述媒体装置处,在所述媒体装置与远程EPG内容系统之间建立通信链路;及
响应于在所述媒体装置与所述远程EPG内容系统之间建立所述通信链路,经由所述所建立的通信链路从所述远程EPG内容系统接收EPG信息的当前部分,其中,所述EPG信息的当前部分包括识别所述节目的信息和在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中根据数字视频广播DVB标准及美国电视标准委员会ATSC标准中的至少一者以移动图片专家组MPEG格式传递EPG信息的所述当前部分。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:
将所述EPG信息的所述当前部分从所述远程EPG内容系统推动到所述媒体装置,其中EPG信息的所述当前部分为预定义的。
4.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其进一步包括:
在启动时间启动所述媒体装置,其中将EPG信息的所述当前部分推动到所述媒体装置在实质上所述启动时间开始且包含囊括所述当前时间周期的节目信息。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:
将所述EPG信息的所述当前部分从所述远程EPG内容系统拉动到所述媒体装置,其中EPG信息的所述当前部分由所述媒体装置选择。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其进一步包括:
识别感兴趣节目频道,其中EPG信息的所述当前部分对应于当前时间周期内在所述所识别的感兴趣节目频道上可用的节目编排。
7.根据权利要求6所述的方法,其中所述感兴趣节目频道对应于当前从所述媒体装置传递到媒体呈现装置的当前节目频道。
8.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其进一步包括:
识别感兴趣时间,其中EPG信息的所述当前部分对应于在所述感兴趣时间开始且囊括预定义周期的可用节目编排。
9.根据权利要求8所述的方法,其中所述感兴趣时间对应于当前时间。
10.根据权利要求8所述的方法,其中所述感兴趣时间对应于EPG信息的所述当前部分的结束的时间。
11.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:
对所述媒体装置的调谐器进行调谐以随EPG信息轮播接收所述至少一个广播节目内容流。
12.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:
从所述远程EPG内容系统拉动感兴趣补充EPG信息。
13.一种媒体装置电子节目指南EPG接入系统,其包括:
节目内容流接口,其经配置以接收至少一个节目频道及其中具有EPG信息轮播的EPG数据信道,其中所述EPG信息轮播描述预定义周期内多个节目频道上可用的多个节目,其中在节目内容流中将所述EPG信息轮播周期性地广播到所述媒体装置,其中以串行格式将所述EPG信息格式化;
存储器,其经配置以在接收所述EPG信息轮播期间,存储接收到的EPG信息;
远程接口,其经配置以从远程控制接收指令从而在显示器上呈现所述EPG,其中所述EPG是用以呈现识别节目的信息以及在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道,其中所述当前时间周期比所述EPG信息轮播的预定义周期短;
反向信道接口,其经配置以当识别节目的信息和在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道在存储于所述存储器中的EPG信息中不可用时来建立到远程EPG内容系统的通信链路,且其中与当前时间周期对应的EPG信息的当前部分是响应于建立到所述远程EPG内容系统的所述通信链路而经由所述通信链路接收的;及
处理器系统,其通信地耦合到所述节目内容流接口、所述远程接口及所述反向信道接口,其中所述处理器系统从可用的所存储的EPG信息及在所述反向信道接口接收的EPG信息的所述当前部分构造EPG。
14.根据权利要求13所述的媒体装置电子节目指南EPG接入系统,其进一步包括:
其中所述远程接口经配置以从远程控制件接收节目频道选择,
其中所述处理器系统基于选定节目频道而识别感兴趣EPG信息,且
其中所述所识别的感兴趣EPG信息被传递到所述远程EPG内容系统,且其中所述远程EPG内容系统经由所述通信链路将EPG信息的对应于所述所识别的感兴趣EPG信息的所述当前部分传递到所述媒体装置。
15.根据权利要求13所述的媒体装置电子节目指南EPG接入系统,其中所述反向信道接口为调制解调器,其中所述通信链路经建立而经由因特网到达驻存于所述远程EPG内容系统处的服务器。
16.根据权利要求13所述的媒体装置电子节目指南EPG接入系统,其中所述所接收的至少一个节目频道及所述EPG数据信道驻存于卫星信号中。
17.一种将电子节目指南EPG信息轮播提供到媒体装置的EPG接入系统,所述媒体装置在经由数据信道接收EPG信息轮播期间存储EPG信息轮播,其中所述EPG信息轮播描述预定义周期内多个节目频道上可用的多个节目,其中在节目内容流中将所述EPG信息轮播周期性地广播到所述媒体装置,其中以串行格式将所述EPG信息格式化,所述系统包括:
反向信道接口,其经配置以在当识别节目的信息和在当前时间周期内可用的相关联频道在所存储的EPG信息中不可用时来建立到所述媒体装置的通信链路,且响应于所述媒体装置建立与所述EPG接入系统的所述通信链路,所述反向信道接口进一步经配置以经由所述通信链路将EPG信息的当前部分传递到所述媒体装置,其中所述当前部分对应于所存储的EPG信息中不可用的EPG信息的时间周期;
存储器,其具有所存储的当前EPG信息;及
处理器系统,其通信地耦合到所述反向信道接口及所述存储器,其中所述处理器系统基于经由所述通信链路接收的从所述媒体装置接收的信息来构造EPG信息的所述当前部分。
18.根据权利要求17所述的EPG接入系统,其中所述反向信道接口为服务器,其中所述通信链路经建立而经由因特网到达驻存于所述媒体装置中的调制解调器,且其中所述服务器响应于来自在所述媒体装置中执行的web浏览器代理程序的超文本传送协议HTTP请求。
