Abstract

Description
本文中所述的发明涉及一种在整个处理区域内颜色和密度均匀的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材。为了得到该聚合物浸渍木材,将一种母体木材(parent wood)浸渍一种含有至少水、糠醇、稳定剂和至少一种引发剂的可聚合糠醇单体混合物。本发明也涉及一种呋喃浸渍木材的制备方法及其用途。
糠醇在酸介质中聚合(树脂化)。酸引发该聚合反应。强酸引起因猛烈而具有有限有用性的急剧聚合。但使用弱酸例如有机酸可以控制该聚合反应。当希望使用糠醇作为木材等多孔性材料的浸渍剂时,已经发现,重要的是选择一种不会随着它进入该多孔性介质而与该糠醇分离的弱酸。利用对该木材有化学亲合力的弱酸也是有用的。对木材有更强亲合力的非分离性混合物是WO 02/30638(Marc Schneider)的基础。
对于一些用途来说,理想的是用比WO 02/30638中更少引发的糠醇浸渍木材等多孔性材料。已经发现,该木材中糠醇聚合物(也称为呋喃聚合物或呋喃树脂)的较低浓度还会以较低成本和外观较少变化来提供有用的性能。按照WO 02/30638制备的木材是颜色非常暗的。用较低浓度时,从浅褐色到暗棕色的颜色是可能的。
该多孔性材料中呋喃聚合物浓度的控制方法是使用该引发糠醇的一种液体载体。使该载体和糠醇一起浸渍到该多孔性材料中。浸渍后使该载体从该多孔性材料中脱除,使到位的引发糠醇留在该多孔性材料内。引发的糠醇的聚合可以在该惰性载体提取之前、期间或之后发生。木材和木质材料是本发明的主要客体,但其它多孔性材料例如砖、(普通)水泥混凝土和石材也可以类似地浸渍。
水是一种环境友好的、不昂贵的化合物。糠醇可溶于水,因此,水可以用来作为稀的未引发糠醇的一种载体,但它不会有用地聚合。
当有机酸引发剂与糠醇混合时,生成一种酯。该酯在水中的溶解度有限。发生一种两相混合物。当搅拌时,形成一种乳状液。在利用这种混合物的早期工作中,假定该乳状液不会充分渗透木材,因而进行了一些实验以探索使该混合物变成单相的途径。这些实验显示,某些化学品的添加产生了与催化的糠醇和水的稳定单相混合物,这是WO02/060660的基础。所发现的第一种有用的化学稳定剂是硼砂和木质素磺酸的钠盐。
含有一种有机酸引发剂、然后与水混合而无稳定剂的糠醇会慢慢聚合。该缓慢聚合反应产生酸,这加速该聚合。这一过程限制了该混合物的有用寿命。用这些混合物的进一步工作指出,该稳定剂的主要功能是使该混合物的酸度保持稳定而不增加,从而延长该混合物的有用寿命。这项进一步工作也指出有为数众多的化学品可以充当稳定剂。首先使用的硼砂和木质素磺酸的钠盐只是这些众多可能性的实例。
该进一步工作用一种不含稳定剂的引发糠醇的水乳状液浸渍木材。以水的基准,其浓度是1%马来酐和12%糠醇。剧烈混合后,形成一种混浊混合物,该混合物能充分浸渍木材并在加热后在该木材内部聚合。其它浓度也构成可工作混合物。因而,对于木材的某些用途和工艺来说,没有必要在引发的糠醇-水混合物中使用稳定剂。
该进一步工作发现,引发剂、糠醇和水的混合顺序并不重要。无论将引发剂加到水中然后加糠醇还是将糠醇加到水中然后加引发剂,都形成相同的两相混合物。
在制作稳定的混合物时,发现pH值是重要的。该混合溶液的某一特定pH范围会给出长的贮存寿命,也会在引起聚合的加热期间变成足够多的酸。然而,在制作稳定的混合时,混合顺序可能是重要的。糠醇在酸性方面会因批号、贮存时间和贮存条件而异。如此先使糠醇与水混合然后添加正确数量的酸性引发剂和缓冲稳定剂以达到目标pH,是得到均匀、稳定的处理混合物的一条良好途径。
无缓冲稳定剂的、有用的引发的糠醇-水乳状液典型地有接近于2.3的pH,此值当加热固化时降低到1.4。
稳定剂使有用处理混合物的pH保持直至该木材浸渍之后。然后该pH降低(变得更酸),从而有利于固化。能充分贮存的稳定混合物典型地有3.5~4.0之间的pH值。当加热以引起聚合时,该pH降低到2.5~2.8范围。
本发明的一个目的是通过用与WO 02/30638中公开的那种相同的化学单体但使用数量较少的化学品来改变木材细胞壁而提供一种呋喃聚合物浸渍的木材。
本发明的另一个目的是通过使用水作为一种环境友好且生产友好的稀释剂,给出活性化学品在该木材的处理区域中的均匀、可控、低的保留率,从而提供该化学品在呋喃聚合物浸渍木材中的均匀分布。
本发明的又另一个目的是提供一种有改善性能例如尺寸稳定性、腐败和耐候性的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材。
按照本发明,上述目的及其它目的是用如专利权利要求书中所公开的产品、方法及其用途达到的。
在本发明的一种实施方案中,提供的是一种呋喃聚合物浸渍的木材,是通过用一种可聚合糠醇单体混合物浸渍木材得到的,该混合物至少含有水、糠醇、一种选自水溶性木质素衍生物及其组合的稳定剂、和一种引发剂,其特征在于使用一种进一步选自碳酸钠、碳酸氢钠、柠檬酸钠、磷酸盐和水溶性木质素衍生物例如木质素磺酸的钙盐和铵盐的稳定剂,和一种选自马来酐、邻苯二甲酸酐、马来酸、苹果酸、邻苯二甲酸、苯甲酸、丙二酸、抗坏血酸、硼酸、柠檬酸、氯化锌、氯化铝、其它环状有机酐和酸、及其组合的引发剂。
为了得到合理的贮存期限和最佳的聚合条件,所述糠醇混合物的pH是2.5~4.0。
要说明的是,所述稳定剂可以单独使用,也可以与至少另一种稳定剂组合使用。这同样适用于所述引发剂。
在本发明的另一种实施方案中,提供的是一种呋喃聚合物浸渍木材的制备方法,该木材是通过用一种可聚合糠醇单体混合物浸渍木材得到的,该混合物至少含有水、糠醇、一种稳定剂、和一种引发剂,其特征在于所述稳定剂选自碳酸钠、碳酸氢钠、柠檬酸钠、磷酸盐和水溶性木质素衍生物例如木质素磺酸的钙盐和铵盐、及其组合,和所述引发剂选自马来酐、邻苯二甲酸酐、马来酸、苹果酸、邻苯二甲酸、苯甲酸、丙二酸、抗坏血酸、硼酸、柠檬酸、氯化锌、氯化铝、其它环状有机酐和酸、及其组合,随后一个固化步骤。
可以提供该呋喃聚合物浸渍木材的任何用途。然而,较好的是作为下列的用途:建筑部件(横木、檐、板壁、底木、框、工厂机械)、船只部件(桁、船壳板、甲板)、海洋设施(船坞、码头、龙虾捕捉器具、堰桩)、室外设施(家具、台面板、栏栅和梯级、人行道、木板铺成的路面、运动场设备)、桥部件(梁、栏杆、桥面)、铁道枕木、冷却塔板条、电线杆、重型木材、围栏柱、大木桩、高速公路设施(护栏柱、护栏板、信号杆、灯杆)、地板和容器(槽、水桶)。
本发明的两个关键是1)使用水作为受催化糠醇单体的稀释剂和2)使用稳定剂,使得已引发单体成为水溶性并在贮存时保持稳定。
如果1)单独混合,则得到贮存寿命有限的乳状液。这种乳状液可以浸渍到木材中并在使用时少数几天内在木材中固化。当贮存较长时间时,受催化的糠醇就聚合得足以使该混合物不能用于浸渍木材。使用2)给出一种能稳定地贮存若干个月的混合物。
该引发剂对木材有类似于糠醇的亲合力,而且能与糠醇化学结合,因而能进入木材中,并在深达它所穿透的位置保持在溶液中。在该溶液穿透到达的任何位置,它都是可聚合的。该引发剂选自任何水溶性有机含酐化合物以及酸,包括马来酸、苹果酸、邻苯二甲酸、柠檬酸、和苯甲酸。然而,较好能使用选自马来酐、邻苯二甲酸酐及其组合的化合物,更好只使用马来酐或邻苯二甲酸酐。稳定剂除以上提到的那些外也可以包括硼砂和木质素磺酸的钠盐。为了制作一种在2)下有长期稳定性的处理混合物,将这些引发剂中至少一种、较好这些引发剂中只一种,和这些稳定剂中一种或两种溶解在水中。然后添加糠醇,形成一种在室温下有几个月有用寿命的混合物。替而代之,可以将糠醇溶解在水中,然后添加稳定剂和引发剂。
如果需要有限面积浸渍或横纹穿透,则可以使用以浸渍混合物进行的刷涂、辊涂、喷涂或浸涂。
对于可容易浸渍的木材来说,当不需要深层渗透时,可以只使用真空。对于深层且均匀的渗透来说,有三种方案:a)单独加压(1~10bar),b)先抽真空后加压(全细胞工艺),c)先大气压或低压(1bar)后加压然后最终抽真空(空细胞工艺)。
对于难以渗透的木材像云杉来说,可以使用振动加压法。
所有这些工艺所需要的时间取决于很多因素,包括设备能力、木材尺寸、树种和所希望的渗透。
按照本发明一般使用的浸渍方法(全细胞工艺)如下:
i)将木材装入容器中,将荷入物固定,使得它不会漂浮,
ii)关门,抽适当的部分真空,
iii)使该容器充满处理混合物,同时保持真空,
iv)将浸没的木材加压到5~10bar(75~150psi)范围内的压力,这取决于树种及其它因素,
v)在压力下足够时间之后,将压力降低到2~3bar,并利用剩余压力排出该处理液,
vi)释放全部压力,开门,将处理的木材移到固化区。
在要处理的区域中,木材湿含量必须低于纤维饱和点(约30%MC)。湿含量越低,可以浸渍的化学品就越多。如果需要特定目标量的化学品,则必须考虑该木材的湿含量和所浸渍混合物的数量,从而调整该处理化学品的浓度。
下列实施例用于进一步说明本发明,但不要理解为对本发明范围的限制。
我们已经成功地试验的处理混合物的浓度,以水的重量为基准,包括:

因所希望的产品聚合物负荷和材料性能而异,可以使用所有其它水中糠醇浓度(以溶液为基准,约5%~几乎100%)和成比例数量的引发剂与缓冲剂。
低于约5%时,木材中生成的聚合物太少而不能有用地改变性能,而接近于100%时其性能变得非常接近于WO 02/30638。然而,低浓度可以用于固定通常可溶出的防腐剂例如以硼和铜为基础的那些。
混合操作通常始于将水加热到大约40℃,这有利于马来酐或邻苯二甲酸酐和稳定剂(当使用稳定剂时)的添加。当这些固体添加剂完全溶解于该水中时,将溶液冷却到20℃~25℃,然后在搅拌下掺入该糠醇,并在15℃~20℃的温度贮存。替而代之,可以将糠醇添加到水中,然后添加其余成分。然而,这在高温度实际上无法进行,因为聚合会在该混合物中发生。因而这种方法要求较长的固体成分溶解时间,因为它必须在室温或更低的温度下进行。
固化可以在从约25℃起至约140℃的温度范围内进行。较低的温度(低于约40℃)需要长时间(数天或数周)才能固化。在约70℃~约100℃的温度下,固化时间是数小时。在100℃以上的温度下,固化时间甚至更短,但通常必须控制湿度条件,因为要不然迅速干燥会发生从而引起木材龟裂和裂开。
按照本发明,在约70℃~100℃的温度范围内的水蒸汽或热湿空气固化,在该范围内的某一固定温度就能顺利进行。此外,温度可以随着固化和干燥的进行而提高。基本上,这就是惯常温度窑干燥。在70℃~120℃温度的热油中固化和干燥,无论在该范围内的某一固定温度还是随着固化和干燥的进行而在该范围内升温,都能顺利进行。在100℃~120℃范围内的某一固定温度或升温,在受控湿度下的固化和干燥也能顺利进行。基本上,这就是高温窑干燥。以所使用的糠醇/引发剂比值,在这些温度下,糠醇将容易地固化。10mm~20mm厚的材料会在2~3小时后固化,但干燥到最终湿含量需要更长时间。
起始原料是木质材料,通常是锯材,这包括板条(厚锯材),但也可以是木质复合材料例如取向线材板和碎料板。可以利用任何尺寸的木质材料。
该木质材料的长度对于处理时间和浸渍均匀性是重要的,因为该处理混合物沿长度方向移动非常迅速但沿(垂直于树轴的)横纹移动非常缓慢。对于像山毛榉和桦木这样可渗透木材来说,处理的均匀性决定于处理混合物在它沿长度方向移动以及从孔隙到纤维的移动时均匀性保持得有多好。当可渗透木材的浸渍完成时,用这种方法形成的木质材料有十分均匀的性能。颜色、机械性能、以及耐湿性、耐天候老化性能和耐恶化性能是十分一致的。不同的树种,甚至相同树种的不同板材,可能由于可渗透性的差异而不同地浸渍。这是木材本质上固有的。对于可渗透性低的木材来说,沿横纹的浸渍是缓慢的,跨越横纹方向可能是主要浸渍途径。在这种情况下,处理混合物和所得到的性能在深达该混合物所能渗透的位置都能保持均匀。
包括廉价类型和碎片材料在内的木质材料可以用来生产贵重木材产品,例如仿柚木、桃花心木等,而且也给它们提供新型性能例如耐水和耐天侯老化性能以及更简单和减少的维修要求。
尝试了各种引发剂和稳定剂类型和数量,试图得到一些会导致有有用货架寿命的水溶性可固化混合物的组合。在多次尝试之后,几件事情变得显而易见:
1.马来酐是所试验的最佳聚合引发剂。它也是一种所希望的成分,因为可以认为它起到一种对木材的粘结剂的作用。
2.稳定剂有助于使该混合物在较长时间内保持均匀。否则,它会分离成各成分和部分沉降到底部的成分。为了使该混合物没有稳定剂也有用,需要强烈振荡以形成乳状液。该乳状液在聚合使之不能用浸渍之前有有限的寿命。
3.有稳定剂的混合物要求其pH在微酸性范围内,才能形成一种后来可以在木材内部聚合的均匀、稳定混合物。
4.当该混合物加热时pH降低(更酸),从而引起固化。
将表面活性剂(皂类和洗涤剂)和缓冲剂作为稳定剂进行试验。硼砂(四硼酸钠十水合物)制作了能充分渗透木材的均匀混合物。已发现含有30%糠醇和硼砂的混合物在室温下贮存一年多之后仍然可用。进一步的工作确定其它稳定剂例如洗涤碱(碳酸钠)和小苏打(碳酸氢钠)也很管用。这些稳定剂能使该处理混合物保持在稳态pH(它们使其缓冲)直至该木材浸渍之后。然后该pH下降(变得更酸)从而引起聚合。能很好地贮存的缓冲混合物典型地有3.5~4.0的pH。当在固化过程中加热时,该pH降低到2.5~2.8范围并发生聚合。碳酸氢钠缓冲的混合物显示出良好的货架寿命。碳酸钠缓冲剂在比要么硼砂要么碳酸氢钠甚至更低的浓度也能产生可工作混合物。也发现木质素衍生物能单独起稳定剂的作用。然而,木质素通常使浸渍不太均匀。
无缓冲性稳定剂的催化乳状液典型地配制得具有近似2.3的pH,并在加热固化时降低到约1.4。
已经发现,以水为基准约8%~900%糠醇浓度(以溶液为基准9%~90%)的混合物能给该木材提供湿度和腐败防护,且浓度越高表现得越好。然而,较低的浓度能改善性能,使其对于那些未处理木材会恶化的用途具有吸引力。这些较低浓度因其低成本和浅颜色而具有特殊意义。但为了保护可望实用和有用的全浓度范围,建议采用下列水系混合物百分率(以溶液为基准)区间:

Claims (13)
1.一种呋喃聚合物浸渍的木材,它是通过用一种可聚合糠醇单体混合物浸渍木材得到的,该混合物含有至少水、糠醇、稳定剂和引发剂,其特征在于所述稳定剂选自碳酸钠、碳酸氢钠、柠檬酸钠、磷酸盐和水溶性木质素衍生物或其组合,和所述引发剂选自马来酐、邻苯二甲酸酐、马来酸、苹果酸、邻苯二甲酸、苯甲酸、丙二酸、抗坏血酸、硼酸、柠檬酸、氯化锌、氯化铝或其组合。
2.权利要求1的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材,其特征在于所述糠醇混合物的pH是2.5~4.0。
3.权利要求1的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材,其中所述水溶性木质素衍生物是木质素磺酸的钙盐和铵盐。
4.一种呋喃聚合物浸渍木材的制备方法,该木材是通过用一种可聚合糠醇单体混合物浸渍木材以及随后的固化步骤得到的,该混合物含有至少水、糠醇、稳定剂和引发剂,其特征在于所述稳定剂选自碳酸钠、碳酸氢钠、柠檬酸钠、磷酸盐和水溶性木质素衍生物或其组合,和所述引发剂选自马来酐、邻苯二甲酸酐、马来酸、苹果酸、邻苯二甲酸、苯甲酸、丙二酸、抗坏血酸、硼酸、柠檬酸、氯化锌、氯化铝或其组合。
5.权利要求4的方法,其中所述水溶性木质素衍生物是木质素磺酸的钙盐和铵盐。
6.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于所述固化是在25℃~40℃的条件下进行的。
7.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于所述固化是在70℃~140℃的条件下进行的。
8.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于所述固化要求窑干燥进行,其中温度范围为40℃~70℃。
9.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于所述固化要求窑干燥进行,其中温度范围是70℃~100℃,该温度要么是固定的,要么始于该范围内的下限并随着固化和干燥的进行而提高。
10.权利要求4的方法,其特征在于固化是通过使浸渍的木材浸没于热油中进行的,固化温度要么是固定的,要么始于该范围内的下限并随着固化和干燥的进行而提高。
11.权利要求10的方法,其中所述热油是80℃~120℃的热油。
12.按照权利要求1~3中任何一项的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材或如按照权利要求4~11中任何一项的方法制备的呋喃聚合物浸渍木材的用途,其作为建筑部件、船只部件、海洋设施、室外设施、桥部件、铁道枕木、冷却塔板条、电线杆、重型木材、围栏柱、大木桩、高速公路设施、地板和容器。
13.权利要求12的用途,其中所述建筑部件为横木、檐、板壁、底木、框、工厂机械,所述船只部件为桁、船壳板、甲板,所述海洋设施为船坞、码头、龙虾捕捉器具、堰桩,所述室外设施为家具、台面板、栏栅和梯级、人行道、木板铺成的路面、运动场设备,所述桥部件为梁、栏杆、桥面,所述高速公路设施为护栏柱、护栏板、信号杆、灯杆,或所述容器为槽、水桶。
