Abstract
The increase in the heat resistance of the refractory barrier of nickel-based or cobalt-based super alloys is produced by the application onto the substrate of a refractory coating consisting of two separate materials. The first, in direct contact with the surface of the substrate, consists of a metal binder which is an alloy of Cr, Al, Y with one of the elements Fe, Co, Ni or Ni-Co alloy. The second material is zirconia-based. These two materials may either constitute separate layers or layers which interpenetrate so that the zirconia content of 100 % on the outside varies gradually and continually to 0 % at the interface between the substrate and the binder.
