Musical movement The present invention relates to a musical movement which comprises, like many known musical movements, a motor connected by a gear train to a speed regulator and driving a cylinder provided with needles. actuating the tuned vibrating blades of a keyboard fixed rigidly by its foot on a frame.
This musical movement differs from known movements by the fact that the regulator and the keyboard are located one above the other in such a way that the orthogonal projection of the regulator on the plane of the keyboard is at least partially inscribed. inside a rectangle formed by the keyboard, by the fact that all the moving parts of the movement as well as the keyboard itself are included within a space, limited by two first parallel planes which, at the height of the cylinder, are spaced from each other by a distance substantially equal to the diameter of the cylinder provided with its needles, by two second parallel planes, perpendicular to the first two, and the spacing of which is substantially equal the diameter of the cylinder fitted with its needles,
increased by the length of the keyboard and, finally, by two third parallel planes, perpendicular to said first and second planes, as well as to the axis of rotation of the cylinder, and containing bearings carrying the cylinder, the spacing of these two third planes planes being substantially equal to the length of the cylinder increased by the length of the bearings carrying the cylinder.
The appended drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the musical movement according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line 11-11 of FIG. 3.
Fig. 3 is a side view along arrow A, some parts being broken away and other sectional views.
Fig. 4 is a side view along arrow B, hundreds of parts being broken away. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along the line V-V of FIG. 2.
According to the appended drawing, the musical movement comprises a keyboard of tuned vibrating blades 1, the foot 2 of which is rigidly fixed by screws 3 on the middle part of a base 4 having the general shape of a U. A cylinder 5 , provided with needles 6 cooperating with the free end of the tuned blades, is rigidly fixed to an end wall 7 integral with a toothed wheel 8. The second end of the cylinder rotates freely on a skirt 9 carried by a wall end 10 fitted with a toothed wheel 11.
This cylinder is carried, on the one hand, by a pin 12, one end of which is engaged in a bearing 13 arranged in a side wall 14 fixed to the external face of one of the wings of the base, while the other end is carried by a stud 16 integral with the wall 10 and engaged in an axial bore 15 of the axis 12 and, on the other hand, by a journal 17 integral with the end wall 10 and rotating freely in a bearing 18 arranged in a side wall 19 rigidly fixed to the external face of the second wing of the base 4.
A winding member 22 provided with a threaded rod 21 is screwed into a threaded axial bore 20 of the journal 17.
The motor consists of a spring 23 wound around the axis 12 and one of the ends of which is engaged in a housing 25 formed in the cylinder, while its other end 26 is engaged in a housing 27 formed in the cylinder. skirt 9.
The musical movement comprises a device for retaining the skirt 9 in its angular position. This device comprises a pinion 28 meshing with the toothed wheel 11 and housed in a recess 29 made in the base 4. This pinion 28 is secured to an axis 30 parallel to the axis 12 of the cylinder and rotating in bearings arranged in the side wall 19 and in the base. A retaining pawl 31, mounted on a pivot 32 integral with the base 4, is subjected to the action of a spring 33 tending to keep it in engagement with the teeth of the pinion 28.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the pinion 28 still meshes with a pinion 34 integral with an axis 35 perpendicular to the axis 12 of the cylinder 5 and rotating freely in a bearing 36 arranged in the base 4. The pinion 34 is housed in a housing 37 and the axial position of the axis 35 is fixed by an elastic ring 38 engaged in a circular groove 39 of this axis. This pin 35 has a threaded axial bore 40 opening onto the lower face 41 of the base and intended to receive the control member 22, if desired. A gear train 42 mechanically connects the toothed wheel 8 to a pinion 43 integral with the drive shaft 44 of a speed regulator 45.
The regulator is housed in a recess 46 made in the base 4 below the keyboard, and its axis 44 is parallel to the axis 12 of the cylinder. The gear train 42, on the other hand, is housed in a side housing 47 formed between the base and the side wall 14.
The speed regulator comprises two elastic arms 48 fixed by one of their ends on a ring 49 integral with the drive shaft 44. A weight 50 is attached to the free end of each arm 48. Each weight carries a braking member 51, preferably of plastic material, which, under the action of the centrifugal force acting on the weights 50, cooperates with the internal surface 52 of the housing 46.
The movement comprises a starting and stopping device constituted by a lever 53 articulated on an axis 54 integral with the base 4 and capable of oscillating between a Stop position , for which a finger 57, carried by this lever is located on the path of the protrusions 55 of the arms 48, and an on position defined by a stop 56.
The operation of the mu sic movement described is as follows. The lever 53 being moved manually to a Stop position, its stop finger 57 is then located on the path of the extensions 55 and opposes the rotation of the speed regulator. Thus, the torque exerted by the end 24 of the mainspring 23 on the cylinder 5 has no effect. The user, by actuating the winding member 22, causes the winding of the mainspring 23, and the skirt 9 is held against the torque exerted on it by the end 26 of this spring, by the retaining pawl 31 held in place. , by its return spring 33, engaged with the toothed wheel 28.
When the mainspring 23 is reassembled, it suffices to push the lever 53 as far as the on position to remove the stop finger 57 from the path of the extensions 55 and thus release the regulator. The latter is then driven in rotation by means of the gear train 42 and the cylinder 5. The centrifugal force acting on the weights 50 causes them to move apart against the elastic action of the arms 48 and the braking members 51 slide the along the cylindrical surface 52 and thus limit the speed of rotation of the axis 44 to a defined and constant value.
The cylinder is therefore driven in a rotational movement of constant speed and its needles 6 successively actuate the tuned vibrating blades 1. This operation is therefore similar to that of known musical movements. However, as shown in the accompanying drawing, the speed regulator and the keyboard are housed, one above the other, in a space delimited, on the one hand, by two planes a </ I > and b parallel and tangent to the toothed wheels 8 and 11 and, on the other hand, by two planes c and d parallel and perpendicular to the planes a </ I> and b, one of which is tangent to toothed wheels 8 and 11, while the other passes through the end of foot 2 of the keyboard.
Thanks to this feature, the elastic arms can be provided with a length approximately equal to the width of the keyboard (fig. 1 and 2) so that it is possible to make a sensitive regulator without increasing the overall volume. total movement to music.
It should be noted that in practice, the diameter of the toothed wheels 8 and 11 is substantially equal to that of the cylinder provided with its needles.
The retaining device and the gear train multiplier being housed in lateral recesses formed between the base 4 and the side walls 14 and 19, it follows that all the members of the musical movement are housed in a delimited parallelepiped space by planes a, b, c, d and by these two side walls. These two side walls 14 and 19 are in planes perpendicular to planes a, b, c, d and to the axis of rotation of cylinder 5.
These walls contain bearings 13 and 18 carrying the cylinder and the wall 19 is adjacent to the end wall 10 carrying the toothed wheel 11, while the wall 14 may be adjacent to the toothed wheel 58 carried by the first axis 59 of the train of gears 42 driven by cylinder 5. The thickness e of this parallelepiped is substantially equal to the diameter of cylinder 5 provided with its needles, while the length f of this parallelepiped is equal to the length g of the keyboard increased by the diameter of the cylinder 5. Finally, the width h of the musical movement is little greater than the length i of the cylinder.
The ratio h is obviously variable depending on the length of cylinder 5 and may vary, for example, from 1, 1 in the case of cylinders with a length greater than 5 cm to reach for example 1.3 and a maximum of 1.5 in the case of cylinders less than 1 cm long. This stems, on the one hand, from the fact that the thickness j of each side wall cannot be reduced below a certain value necessary to produce bearings whose range is sufficient to avoid premature wear and, on the other hand apart from the fact that the thickness of the toothed wheels 8 and 11 cannot be reduced below a certain value necessary to avoid premature wear of their toothing.
To these thicknesses, it is still necessary to add a minimum thickness at least equal to the width n of the first large toothed wheel 58 - of the multiplier gear train 42. Thus, the total width h is actually smaller. than that shown in the drawing, the spaces between the toothed wheel 58, the wall 14 and the toothed wheel 8 having been deliberately exaggerated for greater clarity of the drawing.
The width n of the toothed wheel 58 is preferably equal to the width of each of the toothed wheels 8 and 11, so that the spacing between the outer faces of the walls 14 and 19 is substantially equal to the length of the increased cylinder. the length of the bearings 13, 18 and three times the width of the toothed wheel carried by the first axis 59 of the multiplier gear train.
Thus, thanks to the fact that the motor is housed inside the cylinder and to the fact that the speed regulator and the keyboard are arranged one above the other, all the organs and elements of the musical movement can be housed in a minimum bulk having the shape of a parallelepiped, the dimensions of which are fixed by those of the two main organs of the mu sic movement and which are the cylinder, fitted with its needles, and the keyboard. Indeed, the diameter and the length of the cylinder depend on the duration of the melody to be reproduced and the number of different notes that this melody comprises.
On the other hand, the width of the keyboard and its length depend on the number of different notes in the melody to be played and the desired sound power. Thus, the special arrangement described makes it possible to reduce the overall volume of the musical movement to practically the single volume of the parallelepiped enveloping the two main organs of the movement. The flyweight speed regulator could be replaced by a vane speed regulator.
