Les fig. 7 et 8 représentent une forme d'exécution avec deux tambours et deux ban- des de friction, extérieure et intérieure pour former deux étages d'amplification d'effets disposés en série, dont la bande extérieure est destinée à travailler sous compression, tandis que la bande intérieure est. ,destinée à travailler sous tension;
Ser vo-motenr. The present invention relates to a servomotor which uses the principle of friction by winding, such as it can be, for example, employed in the synchronous amplifying-control mechanisms described in patent No. 122412.
The servomotor according to the invention comprises at least one flexible traction element with winding friction and at least one rotary drum, movable relative to one another and arranged to rub against each other on a common surface, and means for applying a control force and a working force at different points of said friction element by winding, in combination with a device for the application of an additional extraneous force on the element friction by winding between the points of application of the control force and the working force,
this additional external force being applied tangentially to the frietian element by winding in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the drum and possibly being constituted by a spring attacking said traction element at a point situated between its ends , one, command, and the other, working.
The additional foreign force thus applied makes it possible to compensate for certain factors such as the weight, the stiffness and the initial deformation of the friction element, the surface friction due to gummy or liquid materials on the friction element or the drum, electro-static conditions, centrifugal forces, all factors any of which may act on the friction element so as to generate friction between it and the drum with which it cooperates, even in the absence of a control force applied to this friction element.
The friction thus generated has the result of creating tangential forces in the friction element which, although completely independent of the control force applied. act in the same direction as the control effort. These tangential forces are. hereinafter referred to collectively as the "training reactions". Furthermore,
EMI0001.0017
the, aforementioned additional force also makes it possible to amplify an adjustment -of the working force varying between wide limits by the control force varying between the narrow limits.
For example, in a device that does not include the application of this additional extraneous force, having a "rolling angle" of three turns and a coefficient of friction of 0.6, a working force of 40,000 kg can be controlled theoretically by a force of about 0.5 kg. If the working force must be doubled, the control force required in the theoretical case would be 1 kg, and so on; in other words, in the theoretical case, the work and control efforts vary proportionally.
Rather, by applying an extraneous force to the friction element, by means. of a spring for example or otherwise, it is possible to increase the force required to move the control end of the friction element, when the working force is .10,000 kg, up to, in a given case, 50 kg for example. If then the working force is doubled, the force required at the control end of the friction element would no longer be 100 kg, but 50.5 kg. In other words, the control force can be made to vary between comparatively narrow limits even if the working force varies between relatively wide limits.
It is further possible, by increasing the length of the contact arc, to reduce the control force, in the event that the extraneous force is applied to the friction element, down to 0.5. kg, when the working force is 40,000 kg. In such a case, if the working effort is to be doubled, the control effort would be of the order of 0.505 kg. In other words, it is not only possible to obtain-narrow limits in the variation of the control force, but it is also possible, by increasing the. arc length - contact., - compensate for loss of sensitivity.
The additional extraneous force furthermore makes it possible to reduce fluctuations in the control force, due to changes in the coefficient of friction which occur from time to time in service, as will be seen. It will be assumed that a friction element is employed with a large number of winding turns for effect amplification purposes and that a spring acts tangentially on each winding revolution of the friction element.
The command force will be combated mainly by the antagonistic force of the first spring, located at a distance - of one turn - from this command force, this antagonistic force being: constant at the location of its point of 'application, but being, when measured at the control end, reduced in an inverse proportion to the amplification ratio of that single turn. This amplification ratio will change if the coefficient of friction varies.
but since the ratio is small, a small percentage change in the coefficient of friction will produce only a moderate change in the amplification ratio, and hence the control effort against this. first spring will be practically constant.
The control force must also be resisted by the force due to the second spring, located at a distance - of two turns - from the control end; the force transmitted by this second spring will be much smaller, given that the amplification ratio between the control end and the second spring is much greater; it will be assumed, for ease of explanation, that all springs are of the same size. The same reasoning applies to the third spring and the following ones, with the result that a change in the coefficient of friction produces only a moderate change in the control force.
The accompanying drawing, given by way of example, represents several embodiments of the object of the invention; Fig. 1 shows a flexible friction strip used, in one of its embodiments; Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 show schematically simple embodiments with different arrangements of springs for applying to the friction element an additional extraneous force:
Figs. 7 and 8 show an embodiment with two drums and two friction bands, outer and inner, to form two effects amplification stages arranged in series, the outer band of which is intended to work under compression, while the inner band is. , intended to work under voltage;
the fib. 7 is a cross section taken along the line VII-VII of the fi ;. 8, and fig. 8 is an axial section taken on line VIII-VIII. Of FIG. 7 The threads ;. 9 and 10 show an embodiment with another .disposition of res sort to apply additional force extraneous to. two friction bands forming two amplification stages, in which the band of each stage works under tension:
fig. 10 is a cross section taken along the line X-X of FIG. 9.
Referring to fib. 1 and 2, the flexible friction-wound traction element 10 consists of a thin strip with sections 11, 12 and 13, joined together by transverse parts 1.4 and 15.
The longitudinal strip sections and the transverse strip portions are preferably made of metal, but they can be made of any other suitable material. A mechanically actuated rotary drum 16 (fib. 2) is -disposed so as to.
be able to be driven in the direction indicated by the arrows and is journaled clans bearings carried by appropriate supports, not shown. The flexible friction element 10 is arranged to be folded and wound around the drum 16 (see fig. 2), so that it surrounds the drum about one and a half times, the control part 17 and the drum. working part 18 of this element being parallel to one another. A tension spring 19 is connected at one end to the strip section 13 at 20 and the other end of this spring is attached to. naked fixed point, as shown at 21, on the support of the drum bearings.
When moving the control end 17 of the friction summer 10, the working end 18, thereof will move a corresponding distance. The tension spring 19 exerts on the friction element 10, in aid.dition to the forces exerted therein, a tangential force sufficient to prevent this element 10 from rubbing on the drum 16. The tension of the spring 1.9 is roughly uniform. since element 10 only moves a relatively small distance.
In fig. 3, the spring 19 'is connected at one end to the strip section 13, as shown at 20', and its other end is attached to the transverse strip portion 14, as shown at 21 '. By this provision, the. tension of the spring 19 ', which neutralizes the driving reactions of the friction element 10, remains constant throughout the extent of the admissible movement of the control end of this. friction element 10.
In fig. 4, a flat spring 22 is in engagement with the strip section 13, as shown at 23, and extends in opposite directions to engage with the strip sections 11 and 12 as shown at 24 and 25 respectively. The initial tension of this spring is sufficient to push the strip section 13 back in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the drum. Here again, the. layout is. such due. tension of spring 22 remains constant throughout the desired extent of movement of the control end (the friction element 10.
Fig. 5 shows a friction strip 26 in the form of a cable with its control and working ends 27 and 28, respectively, this cable being wound helically around a drum 16. In this position, springs 29, 30 and 31 of a substantially equal force are connected, by one end, as shown at 32, to the support for the bearings of the drum and are connected by their other end, to the turns of the friction cable at points 33, 34 and 35, respectively. The springs exert equal tangential forces on each of the turns of the friction cable and oppose the driving reactions.
The arrangement is furthermore suitable in the event that it is desired to see only small variations in the key force commanded for considerable variations in the work force.
Fig. 6 represents. a provision similar to that of. fig. 5, except that the friction strip 36 goes. by decreasing in transverse section over its entire length, its largest section being at the working end 37. Springs 38 and 39 are connected by one end to the friction strip 36 at points 41 and 42, respectively, and by their end opposite the support for the: drum bearings. In this case, the springs exert different forces, which are preferably proportional to the cross sections of the. band 36 at the respective connection points.
Such an arrangement would be suitable in cases where it is desired to minimize the effect on the control force of a change in the value of the coefficient. of friction.
It is obvious that we could substitute keys suitable weights for the springs employed in the devices shown in the figures. 2, 3, 5 and 6.
The fi-. 7 and 8 show a two-stage friction amplifier device, in which 43 designates a rotating drum of tine to be driven by a continuous rotational movement in the direction indicated by the arrow. In the drum is formed an annular recess, open on one side, so as to form a cylindrical inner surface 45 and a cylindrical hub 46, which protrudes from the rear wall 44 of the drum along the same axis as the surface 45. The hub 46 is preferably in one piece with the drum 43 and has an axial bore for receiving the working shaft 47. It itself also forms a drum.
An interior friction strip 48 is disposed near the interior surface 45 of the drum 43 and is connected at one end to a stud 49, projecting laterally from the working arm 50, clamped on the working shaft 47. The other end of the. band 48 is connected to the arm 51 of the crankshaft 52, which is pivotally mounted on the stud 53, also protruding laterally from the working arm 50.
A control friction band 54 is wound around the drum 46, and one end of this band is connected to the arm 55 of the lever 52, while the other end of this band is connected to the stud 56 which projects laterally on the control arm 57, which is fixed to the control shaft 58. (: 'c, the latter is mounted so as to be able to turn in the axial bore 59 of the working shaft 47 and extends beyond of this working tree through a Quverture 60.
An elongated opening 61 is provided in the wall of the bore 59, to allow the control arm 57 to project outwardly from this bore at the end of the bore. shaft 47, and this opening 61 is wide enough to allow limited relative angular movement between the work shaft and the drive shaft. A coil spring 62, working at the. tension, is connected by one end to the arm 51 and is fixed by its other end to a stud 63, projecting laterally on the working arm 50. This spring 62 exerts on the end of the strip 48 a force which is of direction opposite to the. direction of rotation of the drum 43 and which is intended to neutralize the driving reactions of the belt 54.
As this spring 62 is fixed to the working arm 50, it is subjected to a substantially constant tension whatever the angular position of this working arm. Movement of the control arm '57 in the opposite direction to that of the clockwise movement will cause the band 54 to clamp onto the hub-drum 46, and the friction thus generated will exert a powerful traction on the drum. arm 51 of lever 52, will do. toggle the latter and press it. band 48 in strong contact with the work surface * 45, with the result that band 48 will rotate. with the drum 43 and will produce the movement of the working arm 50 so as to rotate the working shaft 47.
With reference to fi-. 9 and 10, these show a type of servomotor, with two amplification stages, comprising two friction bands which cooperate with the same rotary drum. In the latter arrangement, 63 designates the drum around which are wound a light friction strip, or control strip 64, and a stronger friction strip or working strip 65. The drum 63 has an axial bore for receiving at gentle friction the working shaft 66, which is provided with a radially extending working arm 67. The control shaft 68 is mounted inside the working shaft 66, in the manner previously described with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8. The drive shaft 68 includes an arm (the radial drive 69.
The control friction strip 64 is connected by one of its ends to a stud 70, which extends laterally from the control arm 69, and is fixed by its other end to the. oscillating piece 71, that is. pivoted on the stud 72, projecting laterally on the working arm 67. The working friction strip 65 is connected by one of its ends to the oscillating part 71 and by its other at the end, a stud 73, projecting laterally on the working arm 67.
In res out to. coil 74 is connected at one end with a stud 75 protruding from the working arm 67, is attached by its allt - (- end to the oscillating part 71 and acts in such a way as to neutralize the driving reactions of the control strip 64 on the surface of the drum 63. Means are provided for continuously rotating the latter in the direction indicated by the arrow.
When the control arm 69 is moved in the direction of clockwise movement, it clamps the control friction strip 64 on the drum 63 and, as a result of the rotational movement of the latter, it tilts. part 71 and: wanders the working friction bard 65 over the drum, which in turn moves the working arm a distance corresponding to the angular movement of the control arm 69.
Although it has been shown in the various embodiments of the invention a friction element by winding consisting of a continuous strip, it is well understood that instead of such a continuous strip, it is possible. also employ a friction traction element comprising several sa bots or similar articulated members in appearance. .
