Additional patent to main patent No. 298510. Process for the production of a copper-containing azo carbon. It has been found that a valuable copper-containing azo dye can be obtained from the two verbs of the formulas
EMI0001.0006
products obtainable by condensation in an aqueous medium containing alkali hydroxide are treated with copper-releasing agents,
that with splitting of the alkoxy group in the o-oxy-o'-alkoxy group, the o, o'-dioxyazo copper complex is formed.
The new dye forms a dark powder which dissolves in water with a brown color and dyes cotton in brown shades of good lightfastness.
For the condensation of the two compounds of the formulas (1) and (2) in an aqueous, alkali metal hydroxide-containing medium, it is advisable to use a 2- to 80% alkali hydroxide solution and this reaction takes a long time, e.g. B. 5 to 24 hours, at elevated temperature by, for example in an open vessel at the boiling point of the reaction mixture and under reflux cooling or at even higher temperatures and under pressure.
A copper ram is advantageously used as the copper-releasing agent.
Example: 55 parts of the sodium salt obtained by coupling dianotized 4-nitro-4'-aminothilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid with oxybenzene in an alkaline sodium carbonate. Monoazo dye obtainable by means of methylene chloride and methylation of the oxy group with 44 parts of the amino disazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0036
(obtainable by coupling of diazotized
2-Amino-1-oxybenzene-4-sulfonic acid with 1-amino-3-methoxybenzene, further diazotization of the aminomonoazo dye obtained and coupling with 1-amino-3-methylbenzene) 'and 750 parts of 6 o / o sodium hydroxide solution refluxed for 15 hours.
After cooling, the solution is filtered off (to remove any sparingly soluble by-products that may be present), the excess of sodium hydroxide is neutralized with hydrochloric acid and the dye is salted out and filtered off.
The dye paste thus obtained is dissolved in 1500 parts of water, treated with 20 parts of monoethanolamine and a solution of 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate, 50 parts of 25% ammonia and 100 parts of water and the whole is kept at 95 for 8 hours. The resulting copper compound is then salted out, filtered off and dried.
