Additional patent to main patent No. 298510. Process for the production of a copper-containing azo dye. It has been found that a valuable copper-containing azo dye can be obtained from the two compounds of the formulas
EMI0001.0005
products obtainable by condensation in an aqueous medium containing alkali hydroxide are treated with copper-releasing agents,
that with splitting of the alkoxy group in the o-oxy-o'-alkoxy group, the o, o'-dioxyazo copper complex is formed.
The new dye forms a dark powder which dissolves in water with an olive color and dyes cotton in olive shades of good lightfastness.
For the condensation of the two compounds of the formulas (1) and (2) in an aqueous, alkali metal hydroxide-containing medium, it is advisable to use a 2- to 8 / o-strength alkali hydroxide solution and carry out this reaction for a long time, e.g. B. 5 to 24 hours, at an elevated temperature, for example in an open vessel at the boiling point of the reaction mixture. and under reflux cooling or at even higher temperatures and under pressure.
A copper amine is advantageously used as the copper-releasing agent.
Example: 55 parts of the sodium salt obtained by coupling diazotized 4-nitro-4'-aminothilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid with oxybenzene in an alkaline sodium carbonate agent and methylation of the oxy group using methyl chloride available monoazo with 47 parts of the amino disazo of the formula
EMI0001.0036
(available by coupling from
diazotized 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4-stllfonsäure with 1 amino-2,5-dimethoxybenzene, further diazotization of the aminomonoazo dye obtained and coupling with 1-amino-3-methylbenzene) and 750 parts 6o / oiger sodium hydroxide solution boiled 15 hours on the reflux condenser.
After cooling, the solution is filtered off (in order to remove any sparingly soluble by-products that may be present), the excess sodium hydroxide is neutralized with hydrochloric acid and the dye is salted out and filtered off.
To convert the dye into the complex copper compound, the paste obtained is dissolved in 1500 parts of water with the addition of 40 parts of monoethanolamine, an ammoniacal copper sulfate solution of 25 parts of crystallized copper sulfate is added and the whole is kept at 95 for 6 hours. The resulting complex copper compound is salted out, filtered off and dried.
