Fuel injection pump. The present invention relates to a fuel injection pump, in which a piston is intended to slide and rotate simultaneously in a bore made in the body of the pump, the sliding movement causing the discharge of the fuel and the rotation ensuring distribution in the different cylinders to be supplied, the piston having a part intended to ensure the delivery of the fuel and a part intended to ensure distribution, said part intended to ensure the delivery being housed in a delimited compression chamber through said bore and into which the fuel is admitted for delivery,
these two parts being connected by a channel in which is housed a retaining valve intended to prevent the fuel from returning to the compression chamber after it has been discharged therefrom.
The injection pump according to the invention is characterized in that said body also has a leakage chamber in which a leakage channel emerges, this channel making the leakage chamber communicate with the compression chamber, in order to allow part of the fuel contained in the compression chamber to escape into said leakage chamber, by correspondingly reducing the quantity (the fuel discharged to said part ensuring distribution.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment (the pump forming the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the pump according to said embodiment.

In all the figures of the drawing, the same reference numerals designate. corresponding elements. The apparatus shown comprises a fuel adduction pump 1, an injection pump 2 and a regulator 3, assembled to form a relatively sized block. small, compact, and can be mounted as is on an engine and removed from it.
The adduction pump 1 can. be a conventional gear pump or other construction. It is possible to provide a pump constituted by a separate member comprising a delivery duct connected to the injection pump, instead of mounting this pump directly on the injection pump of the manual shown. Adduction pump 1 is arranged to receive fuel from a tank through a conduit which connects the tank to see suction pipe 5, while the fuel delivered by adduction pump 1 passes through the delivery pipe 6 in the inlet pipe 38 of the injection pump.
The injection pump 2 is constituted by a head 7 fitted in a cavity formed in the main body 8, and fixed to this body by bolts 9 or other fixing elements.
The injection pump 2 is arranged to be actuated by the cam 10 of the camshaft 11, which is, for example, coupled to a four-stroke engine, and intended to operate at or at half speed. the speed of that engine. The cam has a number of lobes equal to half the number of outlet ports if the pump is running at engine speed, and a number of lobes equal to the number of outlet ports if the pump is running at half the speed of the motor. engine. In this case, the pump shown has six outlet pipes, the cam therefore has three lobes arranged to actuate the piston which performs three outward and return journeys on each rotation of the camshaft 11 and of the cam 10.
The camshaft 11 is rotatably mounted at its ends, respectively in the ball bearing 12 and the bearing 13. The flange 14 is provided for mounting the assembly on the engine.
The camshaft 11 carries a helical-toothed pinion 15 which it drives in rotation and which meshes with another helical-toothed pinion 16 integral with the shaft 17, on which the adduction pump 1 is mounted.
In the head 7 is formed a bore 18 in which the piston 19 is mounted so as to be able to slide and pivot. The bore 18 is connected by a number of delivery channels 20 to the corresponding outlet pipes 21, each of which is connected by a pipe 22 to the corresponding cylinder of the engine. In the head 7 is formed a cylindrical chamber 23 having the same axis as the bore 18. This chamber contains the discharge valve 24 which allows fuel to pass, at each stroke of the piston, from the bore 18 into the pipe 25. The fuel then arrives in the peripheral groove 26 made in the piston 719, from where it arrives in the distribution groove 27 intended to communicate with each of the outlet channels 20 as the piston 7 9 slides. and turns.
This piston 19 has one axial bypass channel 28 starting from its upper end and leading to the leakage orifice 29 which communicates with the peripheral groove 30 of the piston. 1.9.
In the head 7 is formed a leakage chamber 31 in which is mounted the adjusting ring 32 surrounding the piston 19, the ring whose axial position is controlled by an off-center journal 33 integral with a rotating shaft 34. The latter is connected by a lever 35 and a connecting rod 36 to the regulator 3, in the manner described below.
The leakage chamber 31 is connected by a channel 37 to the intake manifold 38 to which is connected the delivery pipe of the adduction pump 1, and from which the fuel passes through the channel 39 into the Bore 18. Another channel 37a connects said chamber to pipe 38a which communicates with a fuel return pipe comprising. an overflow shutter no. shown, this shutter making it possible to maintain the desired fuel pressure in the pump supply duct.
This is lubricated by flax channel 40 to. through which passes a certain quantity of oil passing through the filter -11 and then arriving through the channel 42 in the lower part of the bore 1.8. Another part of the oil passes from the chamber 40 through the channels 43 and 44 to lubricate the guide piston 54 and the bearing 13 respectively.
A screw cap 46 closes the upper end of the chamber 23. This cap can be removed in order to replace the check valve or the discharge valve 24. The pinion 15 meshes with another pin 47 which turns the shaft 48 , whose end opposite to the pinion 47 carries another pinion 49 in engagement with a pinion 50 intended to rotate the piston 19 in the manner described below.
The piston 19 is provided with a flat extension 51 which is coupled to the pin 50 by the sleeve 52 and the cup 53 intended to receive the springs 58 and 59. The rotation of the pinion 50, produced in the manner previously described, causes therefore simultaneously the rotation of the piston 19. The guide piston 54, intended to support the lateral thrusts exerted by the cam 10, is provided with a roller 55 cooperating with this cam of the shaft 11. During the rotation of this shaft 11 , the lobes of cam 10 therefore push back piston 19 relative to the axis of cam 10, that is to say in the direction of delivery.
The end of the piston 19 is fixed to a conical member 56 on which the spring valve 57 engages. The coil springs 58 and 59 are provided to move the piston 19 during its return stroke. The ends of these springs 58 and 59 are applied against the cups 53 and 57. The diameter of the spring 58 is smaller than that of the spring 59, and the spring 58 is placed inside the latter.
The regulator 3 is mounted in the housing 60 which is fixed to the main body 8 by screws 61 or other suitable elements.
The governor shaft 62 is coupled to the camshaft 11 so as to rotate therewith.
The shaft 62 of the regulator has a splined part 63, and the support 64 is rigidly mounted on the splined part 63 of the shaft 62. This support 64 carries the articulated massages 65 of the regulator. Each of the weights has a portion 65 ′ intended to exert an axial force on a flange 66 of a sleeve 67, this by means of a ball bearing 68. The sleeve 6 7 is mounted to slide axially on the sleeve. regulator shaft 62. The opposite end of the sleeve is provided (the cups 69 and 70 against which the springs 71 and 72 rest respectively.
The lever 73 of the regulator is in the form of a caliper 74 whose branches extend on either side of the shaft 62 of the regulator. Each branch is pivoted on the cup by means of a pivot (not shown) which can slide relative to the cup, and is pivoted at its lower end on the adjustable lever 75. The connecting rod 36 is connected to the lever 73 at 73a.
When the shaft 62 rotates, the parts 65 'of the weights will exert an axial force on the bearing 68 and the sleeve 67 which, when the shaft 62 rotates sufficiently quickly so that this axial force can overcome that exerted by the springs 71 and. 72, will move to the right by deforming said springs. This will result in a corresponding displacement of the lever 73, since this is connected to the bowl 70, as well as a displacement of the connecting rod 36. This connecting rod in turn will move the adjusting ring 32 relative to the groove 30 of the piston. 19, so as to cause a reduction in the flow, this until the resulting reduction in engine speed has allowed the sleeve 67 to return to its rest position, this under the action of the springs 70 and 71.
The lever 73 of the regulator has a cam 76 destiv.ée to cooperate with the platelet? 77, which is adjusted so that the cam just touches it when operating at high speed and full load.
A spring 78 and an adjusting screw 79 are provided to stabilize the operation of the motor in the event of trial and error.
During operation of the apparatus, the adducting pump 1 receives. carburetor; through the conduit. inlet 5 and delivers it through the outlet pipe 6 to the inlet 38 of the injection pump 2. This fuel passes through the channel 39 in the bore 18 and also fills the pipes 38a and 39a. Thanks to the bypass shutter communicating with the. tubing 38a, the desired fuel pressure is maintained inside the pump.
This arrangement is used when the adduction pump 1 is of the gear type. If another adduction pump is used, for example a conventional diaphragm pump, it is not necessary to provide the bypass plug and return pipe running from 38a to the tank. In this case, the tubing 38a can be closed off by a plug. The arrival of fuel in the channels 39 and 39a is maintained at all times. As the piston descends, fuel enters bore 18.
When, during the delivery stroke of the piston 19, the fuel pressure is sufficient in the bore 18 to overcome the thrust of the spring of the check or discharge valve 24, this valve is removed from its seat and the fuel is discharged to through this valve in the channel 25 of which it passes into the peripheral groove 26 of the piston 19 and then into the distribution groove 27 which distributes it successively to the various starting channels 20, as and when it comes to be placed in look at these Ba nals.
Part of the fuel contained in the bore 18 passes through the axial channel 28 of the piston 19 and escapes through the orifice 29 into the leakage chamber 31. The duration of the fuel leakage into the chamber 31. depends on the position of the ring in this chamber, and it is controlled by the adjustment of this ring 32 in a direction parallel to the axis of the piston 19. This adjustment of the ring 32 therefore also controls the quantity of fuel which passes through the valve. retainer 24 before fuel pressure in bore 18 is reduced by leakage through axial channel 28 and port 29, as previously described.
This leak reduces the fuel pressure in the bore 18 until the thrust of the discharge valve spring is sufficient to replace this valve in its seat and thus to prevent any further backflow of fuel into the channel 25 until. at the next stroke of the pin 19, the adjustment of the control ring 32 is effected automatically by the rotation of the shaft 31, which is itself produced by the lever 35 and the connecting rod 36 connected to a.11 regulator 3 intended to automatic control.
During each stroke of the piston 19, the latter is driven in. rotation by the pinion 15 integral with the camshaft 11, which pinion rotates the pinion 47 and, consequently, the shaft 48, the spur gear 49 and the spur gear 50, to bring the. distribution groove 27 successively. next to each of the outgoing channels 20.
The lever 35 is provided with a lug 80 arranged to be moved by the shoulder 81 of. shaft 82, to stop the pump and, consequently, the motor.
