Apparatus for supplying fuel to the cylinders of an internal combustion engine The present invention relates to an apparatus for supplying fuel to the cylinders of an internal combustion engine, comprising a housing in which is mounted a drive shaft driving a member. distributor distributing the fuel successively to fuel outlet orifices, characterized by a rotor driven in rotation by the motor shaft and comprising a part constituting an injection pump and having radial bores in which the pistons of this pump slide,
this rotor comprising the distributor member which is coaxial with the part constituting the injection pump and a member forming part of a fuel measuring device in communication with the part forming the injection pump.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention. FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along II-II of FIG. 1, viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows. Fig. 3 is a section taken along III-III of FIG. 1, viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows. Fig. 4 is an end view of this embodiment through the drive end.
Fig. 5 is an end view of this embodiment through the dispenser end.
Fig. 6 is a view of a detail.
Fig. 7 is a view of another detail. The apparatus shown comprises a housing body 10 closed at one end by a cover 11 and at the opposite end by the dispensing head 12.
The motor shaft 13 drives a rotor 14 arranged in the housing and this shaft 13 is coupled to the rotor 14 by the keyway device 15.
On the shaft 13 is fixed the pinion 16, which meshes with the pinion 17 to constitute the feed pump, the fuel arriving through the orifice 17a and the duct 17b and being discharged through the duct 18a towards the orifice outlet 18, connected by a pipe, not shown, to a suitable filter, which in turn is connected by another pipe, not shown, to the inlet port 19, of the housing 10 , which is thus kept constantly filled with fuel at the supply pressure.
On the motor shaft 13 is mounted so as to be able to see it move longitudinally without rotating, a sleeve 20, which carries, by means of a thrust bearing a collar 21. The sleeve 20 is integral with a cup 23 in which are arranged balls 22 driven in rotation about the axis 13 by a cage 22 '.
The balls 22 roll on a fixed ring 23 'and when the speed increases, the balls 22 moving away from the axis of the shaft 13 separate the cup 23 from the ring 23' and thus push back the sleeve 20 and the collar to the right (fig. 1).
The collar 21 is disposed between the branches 25 and 27 of a fork-shaped lever articulated on an oscillating bracket 24. The branches 25 and 27 carry lugs 25a sliding in grooves 27a of the collar 21. The free end of the branch 25 is articulated to a fuel adjustment rod 26. The free end of the branch 27 carries an adjustable stop 28 intended to cooperate with a stop plate 29 .
The rotor comprises a cylindrical bearing surface 30 provided with an axial channel 33 communicating with the central chamber 34 of the fuel injection pump and on the other side a distributor member 32 having an axial channel 35 also communicating with the chamber 34 of the injection pump.
The bearing 30 has a surface recess 36 limited on one side by a helical edge and a groove 36 'parallel to the axis of the bearing 30 and communicating with the recess 36.
This recess 36 and this groove 36 'communicate with the channel 33 via the radial channel 37.
On the bearing surface 30 and forming with it the measuring device is mounted the sleeve 38 comprising the filling and leakage orifices 39, the number of these orifices being equal to that of the fuel outlet orifices 40 of the distribution head 12. The sleeve 38 is prevented from rotating and has a transverse groove in which is engaged an eccentric projection 42 carried by a shaft 41, the rotation of which is controlled by the rod 26.
Thus the rod 26, by rotating the shaft 41, adjusts the longitudinal position of the sleeve 38 on the bearing surface 30, which varies the quantity of fuel injected by adjusting the quantity of fuel which leaks back to the formed tank. by the case.
During each suction stroke of the plungers 57, of the injection pump, fuel is sucked through that of the orifices 39 which communicates with the recess 36, the channel 37 and the axial channel 33 in the chamber 34 of the pump.
During the delivery stroke of the plungers 57, the fuel first returns from the chamber 34 inside the housing 10 through the channels 33 and 37, the recess 36 and the orifice 39 in question until that the helical edge of the recess 36 covers this orifice 39.
At this moment the fuel is discharged from the chamber 34, through the axial channel 35 of the distributor member 32 and the slot 56 of the latter, towards the orifice 40 corresponding to the orifice 39 envisaged, and the injection start. It continues until the moment when, towards the end of the delivery stroke of the pistons 57, the orifice 39 envisaged arrives opposite the groove 36 ', which interrupts the injection, the excess fuel returning to the 'inside the case 10.
The same set then begins again with the next hole 39, which corresponds to another hole 40 of the head 12.
The quantity of fuel injected depends on the axial position of the sleeve 38. In fact the angular displacement of the bearing surface 30 between the closing of an orifice 39 at the helical edge of the recess 36 and the opening of this orifice. by the groove 36 'depends on the axial position of the sleeve 38.
At its periphery, the sleeve 38 has a longitudinal groove 43, (FIG. 7) in which is engaged a lug 44 carried by a lever 45, mounted on a pivot 46, this lug preventing the sleeve from rotating.
On the two branches 47 of one of the fork-shaped arms of the lever 45 bears the spring seat 48 of the regulating springs 49 and 50, the opposite ends of which bear against the spring seat 51 applied against the member stop 52. The spring seat 51 and the bearing surface of the stop 52 have a spherical shape at 53 to ensure the automatic centering of the seat 51, and the stop 52 has a hole 54, which allows access to the stopper. spring seat 51 to facilitate the replacement of the regulating springs 49 and 50, because this hole allows a member to pass through and the seat 51 to be pushed back to release it from the stopper and facilitate the removal of the seat 51 and the springs 49 and 50.
The branches 55 of the other fork-shaped arm of the lever 25 bear on the sleeve 20 and thus, under the action of the centrifugal force acting on the balls 22, this sleeve 20 moves against the sleeve. 'action of the regulating springs 49 and 50. When the lever 45 oscillates, the lug 44 engaged in the groove 43 causes the sleeve 38 to undergo an angular displacement modifying the instants of the start and the end of the injection with respect to the position of the rotor 14. The slot 56 of the distributor member comes to cider successively with the orifices 40 at each delivery stroke of the pistons 57, to ensure injection into the various combustion chambers successively.
The central part 31, constituting the injection pump of the rotor 14, comprises two opposed plungers 57 sliding in radial bores. These pistons are controlled by the internal cam 58, by means of rollers 59 housed in shoes 60 mounted so as to be able to slide in the spaces 61: The pistons 57 move outwards under the combined action of the centrifugal force and fuel supply pressure, as they are pushed inward to perform their discharge stroke by the protrusions of the internal cam 58.
This has as many pairs of diametrically opposed projections as there is an injection stroke the pistons 57 per revolution of the rotor, that is to say that there are outlet orifices 40, and orifices 39 of the sleeve 38.
A manual control lever 62 is mounted on a shaft 63 and controls the position of the caliper, that is to say the position of the articulation axis of the lever 25 on this caliper.
A relief valve can be mounted in the channel 35 of the distributor member 32.
By giving the internal cam 58 such a shape that the protrusions of each pair of protrusions are offset so that the movements of the pistons are not synchronous, and by suitably arranging the rest of the arrangement one could obtain a pre-injection, i.e. that is, a small injection before the main injection.
