An office machine, in particular a typewriter, fitted with a device for controlling the movements of the cylinder and the carriage. In typewriters, calculators, or office machines of this kind, the angular displacements of the cylinder are generally controlled by a lever actuated manually at the end of the line. This lever, which is pivoted on a part of the carriage, acts by means of a pawl on a ratchet wheel integral with the cylinder. In these machines, the longitudinal movements of the carriage are controlled with this lever, at the same time as the angular displacements of the cylinder.
There are machines in which the movements of the carriage are controlled by an electric motor. The latter then acts either by means of a tape passing over the front part of the machine on the control lever of the movements of the cylinder, or on a special lever placed on the rear face of the machine, the hand control lever being then suppressed.
The present invention relates to an office machine, in particular a typewriter, provided with a device for controlling the movements of the cylinder and the carriage. It is characterized in that the movable part carrying the cylinder comprises two interline levers, one for the manual control, the other for the mechanical control of the interline and the return of the carriage, the movements. ment of these two levers being transmitted to the cylinder by at least some of the members of one and the same mechanism.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, a partial embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view thereof, in which only the parts necessary for understanding the invention have been shown.
Fig. 2 is a detail view.
With reference to FIG. 1, 10 represents the frame of a typewriter urn, with -racks 11 for a carriage 12. This latter carries at its ends casings 13 in which are arranged the bearings of a cylinder 14. For more than Clearly, from the drawing, the housing cover 13 is removed. In the housing is mounted a support 15 on which is pivoted in, the usual interline lever 16 for the manual control of the spacing and the return of the carriage.
This lever 16, which is driven, acts on the cylinder by means of a connecting rod 17 articulated, on the one hand, on its end 18 and, on the other hand, on the end of a freely rotating lever 19. on an axis 20 integral with the housing 13. On the axis 20 freely rotates a second lever 21 on the end of which is articulated a connecting rod 22, connected by its other end to a ring 23 (Fig. 2) rotating freely on the axis 24 of the cylinder and bearing. a pawl 25 subjected to the action of a spring 26. This pawl 25 engages a ratchet wheel 27 integral with the axis of cylinder 14.
The lever 19 is subjected to the action of a return spring 28 tending to make it rotate in the direction of clockwise.
The connecting rod 22 is subjected to the action of a return spring 30 which also tends to rotate the lever 21 in the direction of clockwise. This lever has a stop 31 which comes together with the lever 19, as well as another stop 29.
On the axis 20 freely rotates another lever 32 subjected to the action of a return spring 33 tending to rotate it in the direction of clockwise. On the end of the lever 32 is articulated a connecting rod 31 connected to a lever 35 integral with an axis 36 rotating in the frame of the carriage 12 and at the end of which is fixed an interline lever 37 for the. mechanical control, for example by means of a motor, a pedal or other means not shown.
The lever 32 is arranged so as to move in the plane of the stop 29 of the lever 21 with which it is normally in contact, as shown in FIG. 1. Its spring 33 is intended to keep it in the position shown in the drawing, when the stop 29 moves when the lever 16 is actuated.

The <SEP> stop <SEP> 31 <SEP> of the <SEP> lever <SEP> 21. <SEP> is <SEP> disposed <SEP> of
<tb> way <SEP> that, <SEP> when <SEP> .the <SEP> lever <SEP> of line spacing <SEP> 16
<tb> is <SEP> activated <SEP> in <SEP> the <SEP> direction <SEP> of <SEP> the <SEP> arrow <SEP> .1, <SEP> it
<tb> causes <SEP> to <SEP> rotation. <SEP> of the <SEP> lever <SEP> 19 <SEP> in <SEP> the <SEP> counterclockwise and drag the lever 21 in the same movement through its stop 31.
The stop 29 of the lever 21 also causes the rotation of this lever in the counterclockwise direction when the lever 37 is actuated in the direction of the arrow B. In this case, the lever 19 and, consequently, the lever 16 remain stationary.
On the other hand, when the lever 16 is actuated, the levers 32 and, consequently, 37 remain stationary.
In both cases, the drive of the pawl 25 controlling the cylinder 14 is effected by at least some of the members 17, 19, 21, 22, 23 of one and the same mechanism. which together form a parallelogram.
38 is a stop limiting the movement of the interline pawl 25.
As is clear from the foregoing description, the levers 16 and 37 for the manual and mechanical control of the line spacing act independently of one another on the same group of control members.
We can of course. also provide another transmission mechanism than the one described, and consisting of a parallelogram of levers.
It is clear that to also allow the control of the return movements of the carriage other than manually, for example by the motor acting on the lever 37, the latter can be connected by a tape 39 to a control device subjected to the actiop of the engine.
Instead of being rotated on the. rear face of the carriage 12, as shown in the drawing, the lever 37 could also be pivoted on another parttie die the latter, for example on its upper or lateral part.
