Process for the production of a condensation product. The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a new condensation product by reacting methylcyelohexanone with a mixture of acetaldehyde and crotonaldehyde in the presence of an alkaline condensation agent, which is characterized by
that to initiate the reaction, the aldehydes are allowed to act on an excess of methylcyclohexanone at low temperature.
The reaction mixture can then, after adjustment to pg 5-7, be heated to a higher temperature for some time, if necessary in vacuo or under pressure, where volatile components are removed. After neutralization, the condensation agent can also be removed by separating off the aqueous layer and then heating.
An aqueous or alcoholic solution of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides can be used as the condensing agent. carbonates or amine bases can be used. The product obtained, which is always a mixture composed of the same compounds, is a clear, linseed oil-like, air-drying oil with a faint odor, the color and viscosity of which are different depending on the conditions used in its manufacture.
Example: 1120 parts by weight of methylcyclohexanone are heated to 30-70 with 150 parts by weight of 7-15% sodium hydroxide solution and a mixture of 220 parts by weight of acetaldehyde and 350 parts by weight of crotonaldehyde is added here over the course of a few hours. wear. The reaction mixture is z.
B. with sulfuric acid set to p $ 5-7 and the crude oil layer which is deposited is separated from the aqueous layer if necessary. The volatile components are removed from the crude oil by heating to 100-300 in vacuo, whereupon the condensation product obtained is further heated, if necessary at elevated pressure, until the desired degree of viscosity is reached.
