Process for the production of a condensation product. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a new condensation product by reacting methylcyclohexanone with crotonaldehyde in the presence of an alkaline condensation agent, which is characterized in that, to initiate the reaction, the aldehyde is added to an excess of methylcyel.ohexanon at a lower level Temperature.
The reaction mixture can then, after adjusting to pg 5-7, be heated to a higher temperature for some time, if necessary in vacuo or under pressure, with volatile components being removed. After neutralization, the condensation agent can also be removed by separating off the aqueous layer and then heating.
An aqueous or alcoholic solution of alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxides can be used as the condensing agent. carbonates or amine bases can be used. The product obtained, which is always a mixture composed of the same compounds, is a clear, linseed oil-like, air-drying oil with a faint odor, the color and viscosity of which are different depending on the conditions used in its manufacture.
Example: 1120 parts by weight of methylcyclohexanone are heated to 30-70 parts by weight of 7-15% sodium hydroxide solution and 700 parts by weight of crotonaldehyde are added to this mixture over the course of a few hours. The reaction mixture is z. B. with sulfuric acid set to p $ 5-7 and the crude oil layer which is deposited is separated from the aqueous layer if necessary.
The volatile components are removed from the crude oil by heating to 100-300 in a vacuum, whereupon the condensation product obtained is further heated, if necessary at elevated pressure, until the desired viscosity level is reached.
