A cet effet, l'étrier 83 (fig.
<I>Indicateurs spéciaux.</I> -- Les indicateurs que Von vient d'exposer ,concernent les mon tants.
Le goujon 309 est d'ailleurs. engagé dans une.fente incurvée 314 du (levier 310, mais i2 est normalement main tenu à l'extrémité de droite de cette fente par une plaque de guidage 315 figée au bâti de la, machine et dont l'arête 3.16 est -concen trique à l'arbre 16;
Pour que M'indicateur 289, ("Crédit") reste clans l'une de ses deux positions supérieures, une fois que de coupleur de touches est re venu -en position normale et qu'il n'entraîne pas, par conséquent, de son propre poids;

Indicator mechanism for cash register. Indicator mechanisms are known for cash registers, comprising two superimposed indicator bodies provided:
each of a series of numbers. and capable, on the one hand, of rotating and, on the other hand, of sliding in the vertical direction, so as to bring into a position of visibility through appropriate skylights, either the numbers or signs marked on one of the body, or the numbers or signs marked on the other body.
<B> In </B> rest position, one of the bodies is located opposite the indication windows and if, for a given operation, a digit of this body is selected, the set is not not moved vertically, whereas on the contrary if a figure of the second body is selected, a vertical sliding brings said figure opposite the indication windows.
This arrangement requires a fairly large space below and above the skylights for that of the two indicator bodies which is momentarily in the inactive position.
The object of the invention is an indicator mechanism for a cash register, comprising two superimposed indicator bodies each provided with a series of digits, the desired series being brought into the visibility position by a vertical movement of said figures. body, this mechanism being further characterized by the fact that in addition to.
Indicators with digits, it comprises, for the indication of special data, - fixed indicators and movable indicators which can be brought in front of the fixed indicators, so as to hide all or part of the latter.
These special data indicators, such as symbols, vendors, category or transaction, can be arranged in the necessary space mentioned above, both at the front and at the rear of the dome. indication.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the indicating mechanism which is the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is a front view of a mechanism for transmitting the values of money to the indicators; Fig. 2, -is a side view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1; Fi-. 3 is a side view of an indicator intended for vendor symbols; Fi-. 4 is an analogous view of a transaction indicator; Fig. 5 is a partial elevational view of the amount indicators and symbol indicators;
Fig. 6 is a side view of a device for lifting the indicators of my so much; Fig. 7 is a corresponding front view; Fig. 8 shows an indicator locking control member; Fig. 9 is a side view of a main shaft actuator; Fig. 10 is a plan view of the indicating mechanism; Fig. 11 is a corresponding elevational view, partially cut away;
Fig. 12 is a front view of the members operating the differential corresponding to the cents from the keys of the odd multiples of five cents; Fi-. 13 is. a corresponding side view; Fig. 14 is a vertical section of the indicator bodies with figures; Fi-. 15 is a corresponding plan view; Fig. 16 is a section taken along line 16-16 of FIG. 14; Fig. 17 is a schematic plan of the control keys.
The illustrated embodiment of the indicating mechanism is assumed to be applied to a cash register controlled by lever keys, the keyboard having two keys I and II (Fig. 17) for salespeople, "Credit" and "transaction keys. De think ", then three keys for the unit of francs and finally eighteen keys for multiples of five centimes. Each of the keys. listed above has a corresponding indicator fitted in the indicator dome on both the seller and buyer sides.
No "Cash" key has been provided, as this type of operation is the most common and a "Cash" indicator is automatically in the active position when no transaction key is dark.
The lever buttons 63 (fig. 2) are mounted on a shaft 62 and are kept in the rest position, shown in fig. 2., by a coupler 64 which extends over the path of all the keys.
The coupler 64, pinned to a shaft 65, supported by side walls 60 of the machine, makes it possible to partially lower several keys one after the other and to continue the movement of all the keys by pressing only one. of them, means being provided to prevent the key or keys from re-mounting before they have completed their travel.
As this device is well known, we will dispense with the description. It suffices to see that when a key is lowered, the coupler performs a pivoting in the senestrorsum direction.
On the shaft 65 is fixed a lever 70 (fig. 9) articulated to a rack 73. When the shaft 65 rotates in the senestrous direction with the coupler, the lever 74 lifts the rack 73 which, by toothing 74, rotates a pinion 72 - through a certain angle. On the return of the rack, it is a set of teeth 79 which is this time engaged with the pinion 72 which, consequently, continues its rotation in the same direction.
Therefore, the lowering of a key and its return to the rest position have the effect of imparting to the pinion 72 and to a main shaft 71 a complete revolution. A stop wheel 80, in cooperation with a pawl 81, prevents the shaft 71 from rotating in the other direction.
Each lever key 63 is provided for odd multiples of five cents, but with the exception of that of five cents, acts, by a cam track 94, on an omnibus rod 82 fixed to a differential member 93. A rod different omnibus 122, (fig. 1) is provided for. units of francs and another rod 92 for the lever - five cents. The paths 94 of two levers assigned to the same ten (for example 10 and 15 or 20 and 25) have the same shape and a change of shape takes place only when the tens is changed.
The -different paths: 94 are indicated in dotted lines, at 91, in fig. 2. By the parts -described, the movement of a key is transmitted, pToportionnellemenrt to, its value, to the omnibus rod 82 and, consequently, to the differential member 93, of which an anterior extension ends in a heel 89 and a rear toothed part engages with a pinion 103, (fig. 1) fixed on a shaft 10'4.
The lever -of five cents also includes a cam track 94 cooperating with the rod 92, to advance a differential member 118 (Fig. 1) of five divisions. A bracket 83 (fig. 2), arranged below the keys 63, has a shape such that the depression of any key of an odd multiple of five cents, moves the rod 92 of the same. distance than in the case of lowering the key "5 ets".
To this end, the bracket 83 (FIG. 12) has a recess below each key 63 bearing a number which ends in zero, while projections 85 of this bracket are provided directly on the path of the keys 63 bearing a number that ends in a five.
As a result, the depression of this latter type of key causes the caliper 83 to pivot on the shaft 6'2 and, as the arm 86 (FIG. 13) of the caliper 83 is secured to a plate 87 to -cam path 8.8 of the same shape as that of the "5 cts" key, the differential member 118 is also moved when one of said keys (multiples, odd of 5 cts) is used.
The differential member 93 is normally retained by a pivoting pawl 90 (fig. 2) fixed to a caliper 10,1 which, under the action of a spring 10-2, is in contact with the lower edge of the keys 63 decimes, thus preventing, normally, the rotation of the component 93. When one of these keys is depressed, the caliper 101 rocks in the direction 6enestror- sum around the shaft 62 and the pawl 90 releases the 'differential. organ 93.
As indicated above, the movement of the differential member 93 is transmitted, by a pinion 103 (fig. 17), to a shaft 104, the other end of which carries a pinion 105, (fig. 2) meshing with a differential member 106, also mounted on the <B> '</B> shaft 61.
The member <B> 10: 6, </B> -is provided with a cam path 107 cooperating with a roller 10-8 carried by a link 109, artieuke moreover to an angle fixed to the coupler 6'4 . The length of the cam track 107 depends on the stroke of the coupler so that when the latter is moved to the maximum, the roller 1018 is in the upper part of the cam track 10-7.
A d-entâ sector 111, mounted idle on the shaft 61 next to the .differential member 106, comprises a pear-shaped recess 112 in which the roller 108 is extended. Thanks to this arrangement, the sector 111, which controls indicators, each time is brought to its new position in the shortest way.
The "5 @ ets" key and its plate 87 directly position the differential member 118 (fig. 1) and a sector 119. The member 118 transmits its position to a pinion 121 and to a T <B>, </B> 120 and, from there, one: addition mechanism to a 'bre neur and to a printing press.
The keys of the units of francs command a differential member 123i (fig. 1), the shape of which corresponds substantially to that of the members 93 and 118. Its movement is transmitted by a pinion 124, a shaft 125, a second pinion 126 and -of. sectors 127 and 128, to the corresponding indicator. The bond between segments 127 and 128 is analogous to what is described above with respect to sectors 106 and -111.
The transaction keys (Credit, De: think) control, via a -shaft 12.9, a sector 130, a pinion 131, a shaft 132 and a pinion 133, two sectors 134 and 13-5 (see also fig. 4) which position the corresponding indicator.
One of the clerk keys, for example the one marked "I", does not exert any action on the corresponding indicator because, for simplicity, the number 1 -is normally in the visible position and is not. hidden only when using the vendor key II. The movement of the key II is transmitted by a pin 141 (fig. 1), a pinion 142, a shaft 143 and a pinion 144, to two elements 145, 146 similar to the sectors described above and which position the indicator corresponding.
Indicating device. - The side walls of the frame 60 (fig. 7, 10 and 11) support crossbars 155 constituting the upper frame - of the indicators. On -other sleepers 156 (Fig. 6) are mounted pivots 157 receiving the lower end of square shafts 191-196 (Fig. 10), the other end being retained by the sleepers. 155.
Each square shaft carries a helical-pitch pinion 159 intended to transmit the values to the indications proportional to the key pressed. The shafts 191, 192, 193, support the indicator bodies arranged: on the seller's side, the shafts 194, 195, 196 support the indicator bodies arranged on the customer's side.
The indicators 160 and 161 (fi ". 10) are -commanded by the five cent times and multiples keys, the indicators 162, <B> 163 </B> by the decimal keys and the indicators 164, 16- 5 using the franc units keys.
As the differential members 106, 119 and l28 are not in the same plane as the corresponding indicators, intermediate members have been provided for the transmission of movement to the indicators. A sleeve 167 (fig. 1 and 11), mounted on a shaft 166, is integral with an input sector 168 which mesh with the member 119. This sleeve 167 is also fixed to a sector 169 whose den ture helical is engaged with a pinion 159 fixed on the square shaft 191. Furthermore, a toothed sector 170 is engaged with a pinion 181 fixed on a shaft 182 supported by the side walls 60. On this shaft is fixed a pinion 183 meshing with a toothed sector 184.
The latter is connected by a. man chon 18-5 (mounted on shaft 166) to a sector 186 meshing with a pinion 159 mounted on square shaft 194.
The shaft 166 also carries (FIG. 1) a sleeve 18-7 integral, on the one hand, with a pi gnon 188 and, on the other hand, with a sector 189 with helical teeth. The pinion 188 meshes with the sector 111 and the sector <B> 189 </B>. With it the pinions @ 159 which is fixed on the shaft 19 <B> 2 </B>. A sector 190 with helical teeth, fixed to the sleeve 187, meshes with that of the pinions 159 which is fixed to the shaft 195.
Finally, the shaft 166 carries a third sleeve 199 (fig. 1 and 11) secured to a pinion 200 meshing with the differential member 128. This sleeve is also secured to a sector <B> 2111 </ B > with helical toothing engaged with that of the pinions 159 which is fixed to the shaft 193. The sleeve 199 is also integral with a sector 212 meshing with a pinion 213 fixed on a shaft 214 (FIG. 1).
The latter carries another pinion 215 in engagement with a sector 216 connected, by a sleeve <B> 217, </B> to a sector 218 which meshes with that of the pinions 159 fixed on the shaft 196.
The indicator members are constituted by pentagonal prisms 219, 220 (fig. 14 to 16), each indicator comprising two superimposed series of figures. The upper prism 219 is offset 36 from the lower prism 220.
To the. part 221 forming. transition between two superposed prisms, the indicator comprises a spacer 222 provided with ten radial branches 223 engages art alternately in each of the angles of the two upper and lower prisms. In the center of the spacer 222 is a hub 22'4 with a square perforation 225 for mounting the indicators on the square shafts 191-196.
Each indicator member is closed at its upper part by a cover 2-26 including a ring 231, hollowed out at 227, as a guide for the square shafts. The cover 22.6 is fixed by means of tabs 228 folded so as to come into contact alternately outside and inside the prism 219 of the indicator.
To prevent the cover 22'6 from moving vertically independently of the indicator body, said cover is connected to the spacer 222 by a tube 229 (Fig. 14): comprising three tabs 2-30 at each end. These tabs 230 penetrate through the appropriate openings of the spacer 222 and the cover 226.
To facilitate assembly, the recesses. of the means 224 intended <B> to </B> -receive ir the legs 230 are arranged so that one of the sides of the square shafts is parallel to one of the surfaces, indicative 232 of the prism higher 2! l9.
The transmission device described above, between the keys and the indicators, operates in such a way that the. trees. 191-193 turn in the opposite direction: shafts 194--196, so that it is also necessary to arrange accordingly, that is to say in the reverse order, the numbers marked on the prisms, depending on whether they are, on the seller's side or on the buyer's side.
The indicating device is closed by plates 23, 3 and 234 (fig. 2 ,, 5: and 10) provided with skylights which reveal only one: figure per indicator. We see for example, in FIG. 11, the window 235 showing the figures of the units of francs, the window 236 the figures. of the decimes and the lu carne 23: 7 the figures of the pennies.
In fig. 2, the machine is supposed to be at rest and the skylights 235-237 show the: (even) numbers provided on the upper prisms 219.
The following device has been provided for lifting a group of two indicator prisms and bringing any number of the lower prism into the visible position: A horizontal shaft 239 (fig. 2, 6 and 7) can be moved parallel to it. even, in the -vertical direction, in guide slots 242 made in the side walls 60. This shaft starts with two pinions 240 and 241 cooperating with racks 243 and 244 fixed to the walls 60.
These racks are especially intended to ensure the horizontability of the shaft 23.9 during its vertical reciprocating movement, because this shaft 239 is controlled, at one of its ends only, by a connecting rod 2145 . The:
lower end of this connecting rod 245 is articulated to a crank arm 246 (fig. 6 and 7) integral with a toothed wheel 247 pivoting at 248 ,. The toothed wheel 247 meshes with a wheel 249 fixed on the main shaft, 71 and makes a complete revolution with each operation.
Two connecting rods 261 and 2i6'2 are suspended from the shaft 2:39 (fig. 7) and are connected by brackets 263, 264 (fig. 6). A stud. of guiding 265 moves: in the vertical slots: 242. The stirrups are extended by a series of arms <B> 2G6-2-71 </B> substantially directed upwards and whose purpose is: to raise Your indicator lights.
These arms are folded at their upper part and the folded part has a recess allowing passage to the trees: square 191-19.6. These arms penetrate inside the indicator body until the folded portion touches the above-mentioned spacer 222. The indicators are raised with each operation and those for which a figure of the lower prism must be visible are retained: in this position, while the others fall immediately.
A slider 2-72 is able to move on the brackets of the walls 60 (fig. 10). Normally, this slider is retained by a spring <B> 9-7à </B> in its right-hand position for which a stirrup 3.18, attached to the ganoh-e end of the slider 272, is in contact with a guide rail 327 (fig. 11) fixed to the side wall 60 ,.
Below the slider 2'72 is fixed an angle 27G (fig. 6, 7 and 10) which, by a forked part, engages with a roller 277 carried by the arms: a lever 278, pivoting in 279- on a 280 console.
The other branch of this lever is connected by a connecting rod 285 there an arm 283 mounted idle on a shaft <B> 1312 </B> (fig. 8), this arm carrying a ga let 2 $ 2 which cooperates with the groove: of a cam 28-1 fixed to the main shaft 71. The shape of this groove is such that the slide <B> 2,755 </B> is, during the first half of each operation, moved away from its position normal to be brought back later.
Each of the 191-196 square trees bears, to. its upper end, a rusting worm wheel 291 in the teeth of which engages a pin 286 carried by lateral arms 273 of the slide 272, so that the indicators are locked in their position of rest.
When the slider 2172 moves to the left, under the control described above, the studs 286 move away from the teeth of the wheels 29,1 and the indicators can turn and assume their new position, after which the slider come back to the right to lock the cogwheels 291 and, the. inclinator @ rs in this position.
As can be seen at the end of the <B> 10, </B> 14 and <B> 15, </B> cover 2.26 of each indicator is provided with five hooks <B> 287 </B> at the under which the legs 2.88 of the slider 272 are placed, but only when it comes to making visible a figure of the lower indicating prism 220.
Slider 272 is moved to the left before the indicators are raised and is returned to its extreme right position before the indicators are lowered. If a digit of the lower prism 220 is to be made visible, a tab 288 will be located below the corresponding hook 287 and will hold the indicator until the start of the next operation.
If, on the other hand, it is a digit of the upper prism 219 that is to be made visible, the indicator is lowered before the cursor 272 returns to the far right position. As the means used for this purpose do not form part of the invention, they will not be described.
<I> Special indicators. </I> - The indicators that Von has just explained relate to amounts. Since the machine can carry out different transactions (cash or credit sales, expenses), the mechanism has special indicators relating to the types of transaction.
It has already been mentioned that for cash sales it. Just do not, press a transaction key, because in, this eye, they designation "Cash" is visible.
The designation of the transaction "Spend" is marked on the luminous plates 233 and 234 (fig. 5) - and if, for example, a cash or credit transaction is carried out, plates bearing corresponding indications hide the designation "Expense".
A fixed screen 251 (fig. 2) is placed in front of the plates 233 and 234 and hides all indications except the skylights 235-237 and the designation "I De Think".
A 289 indicator for the. "Credit" transaction (fig. 4, 5, 10 and 11) and an indicator 2-90 for the "Cash" transaction are made up of plates connected in <B> U </B> by turning, as shown. see in fig. 10, 'the left part of the digit indicators, and can be moved vertically in front of the plates 233- and 234.
The indicator support 289 ("Credit") is provided with two guide flanges 302 (fig. 4 and 11) ensuring perfect vertical movement of the indicator. The displacement of this indicator 289 is effected by means of a connecting rod 303 connected by a stud 304 (FIG. 4) to the indicator 289.
The stud 304 is guided in a yoke 305 provided on the side wall 60. The indicator 290 ("Cash") is also guided in <B> the </B> same wall 60, but below, and this by analogous means, that is to say a connecting rod 306 connected to the indicator by a stud 307.
In fig. 4, indicator 2 "(" Cash ") is represented in the normal position, in which <B> la- </B> it hides the designation" Expense "marked on the plates 233 or 234.
When performing an expense transaction, indicator 290 is lowered just below the indicator window, causing the designation "Expense" to appear. During this operation, the indicator 289 ("Credit") is also lowered slightly, but still not enough to be visible.
When the "Credit" key is pressed, the indicator 290 ("Cash") remains below the window, as in. the expenditure operation, while. that the indicator 2'89 ("Credit") drops a little further to the visible position, in which it masks the designation "Expense".
The connecting rods 303 and 306 (fig. 4) are connected by means of studs 308. 309 to a lever 310 mounted loose on the shaft 166. This carries a pinion, 311 (fig. 11) connected by a g ON orjon 3-12 (fig. 4 and 11) to a plate 313 screwed to lever 810.
The pinion 311 and the lever 3.10e therefore rotate, when a transaction key is actuated, via a cam track 94 formed by aniseed key, of the rod 129, of the sector 130, of. pinion 131, - of the shaft 132, of the pinion 133 and sectors 134, 13.5.
The lever 310 can occupy three different positions, the rest position of which ("Cash") is shown in FIG. 4. When the lever 310 turns about 45 in. the direction dexti7orsum, the indicator 290 is lowered below, the indication lights.
The stud 309 is from elsewhere. engaged in a curved slot 314 of the (lever 310, but i2 is normally hand held at the right end of this slot by a guide plate 315 fixed to the frame of the machine and whose edge 3.16 is concentric to shaft 16;
6. When the lever 3.10 has turned 45 in the dextrorsum sense, the pin 309 escapes the concentric ridge 816 and can move into the slot 314, which is necessary because the indicator guide pin 2.99 290 has reached @ at this time., The lower end of guide path 305.
The lever <B> 3110 </B> is able to rotate a further, 45 angle in, extrorsum direction, but, like the, 306 connecting rod then pivots around 30'7, the indicator 290 remains stationary. During the last rotation of 45 of the lever 310, (the indicator 290 ("Cash") therefore remains below the reads, indicating values 23'5-237.
During the first 45- rotation of lever 3t10, indicator 2189 ("Credit") is also lowered, but not enough to be visible. During the second rotation of 45, this indicator is effectively brought into the visihlle position, in which it hides the designation "Expense". During his return movement,
that is, in the senestorsum direction, the lever 310 reverses the movement of the indicators.
As the lever 310 may be, at the time of depressing a transaction key, in any of three positions. it is the sector 135 which determines in which direction the lever 310 should turn.
In order for M'indicator 289, ("Credit") to remain in one of its two upper positions, once the key coupler has returned to the normal position and therefore does not cause its own weight;
the movement iclusecteur 135, - a bracket 319 has been provided, following the bracket 318 fixed to the slide 272 (fig. 5), bracket which is placed below the pin 3.04 sokdaire of the indi cator 289,
when it is in its upper position. The & sort 31.8 comprises a second bracket 320 which comes to be placed below the stud 304 when the indicator 289 is -in @ its intermediate position, that for which it shows [the designation “Expense”.
During the positioning (transaction indicator ballasts, the slider 272 (fig. 10) is in its extreme left position, so that the brackets 319 and 320 escape the vertical movement of the pin 304.
As co.udisseau 272 resumes its. normal position (to the right) before the coupler begins its return movement, 1 -; 'flag is held sufficiently at. time to not puas, drive the .sector 135 by its own weight.
No retaining device of this kind was provided for the lower position of indicator 289, because for this position the 11th pin: 299 of indicator 290> is at the bottom of the guide path 30-5 and in any case prevents the rotation of the lever 310.
Finally, it is possible to retain the indicators 289 and 290 elastically in their upper position, independently of the brackets 319 and 3.20, for example during a series of consecutive cash operations. For this purpose, a - (elbow lever 322 fitted with a roller 321 (fig. 4)

The differential member 323 is integral with an arm 324 (fig. 3) connected by a connecting rod 325 to a U-shaped indicator support .326, the active part of this indicator being just large enough to mask the number I (fig. 11). The seller's indicator 326 is guided, by flanges 328 on a rail 327 (fzg. 3, 10 and 11) fixed to the wall 60.

In fig. 3, the arm 324 and the connecting rod 325, forming a sort of crutch, are represented in: rest position, that is to say in non-visibility position. When yes, press button II, arm 324 rotates and the stand, by disarticulating, allows indicator 326 to descend sufficiently to mask the sign I (fig. 11).
So that Finder 326 does not drop out. Its own weight, the connecting rod 325 includes a cro chu extension 341 which engages a stud 342 carried by the arm 324.
