Thread grinding machine. Known thread grinding machines are, in general, provided with a device for profiling their grinding wheel, a device which must operate in a fixed position. relative to the grinding wheel, so that the profile thereof is always generated in an immutable position. For this purpose, the profiling device is fixed on the grinding wheel support or on the table which carries the workpiece.
In the first case, the profiling device is brought into the working position by a radial movement towards the center of the grinding wheel.
In the second case, the machine table, which then carries the workpiece and the profiling device, must be moved on the frame of this machine, along its slides until the profiling device is present in front of the grinding wheel, in a position which must be immutable with respect to the longitudinal axis of said slides. This longitudinal translation of the table is effected by means of the lead screw of the machine which turns in a nut carried by the frame.
A profiling device disposed on the table of the machine (in general, it is placed in front of the latter) is more practical than a profiling device mounted on the grinding wheel holder, because the worker does not have to leave his working position to maneuver it; on the other hand, the movement for bringing the device to be profiled into its working position. is necessarily slow, because it is produced by the mother screw and we cannot. rotate it at high speed and, moreover, the table must be stopped with great precision in the fixed profiling position.
The machine forming the object of the present invention, and which comprises a profiling device mounted on the workpiece table, overcomes this drawback by enabling the profiling device to be quickly brought into the exact working position. This machine is characterized by two stops carried by the frame of the machine and cooperating, one with a stop carried by the table and the other with a stop carried by the nut of the lead screw, a nut which is mounted in the table, so as to be able to slide without turning with respect to it, by a device exerting a horizontal tra = ction on the table and by a hand control device making it possible to change the direction of this traction,
so as to apply either the stop of the nut against the corresponding stop of the frame, position in which the. workpiece, or the stop of the table against the corresponding stop of the frame, position in which one can profile 1 a. grinding wheel.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section thereof. The fi-. 2 and 3, show a detail from two different views.
In these figures, 1 denotes the grinding wheel carried by a support: special 1 ,, and 9 is the table of the machine, which can slide on the frame 19 thereof. This table, intended to carry the workpiece, whose net must be rec tified, present, to. For this purpose, a spindle 2 that can rotate in the spindle holder and a tailstock 3 between which this part is placed, to which the spindle 2 gives a rotational movement. 4 is the profiling device of the grinding wheel 1 placed at the front of the table 9. 5 -is the drive pinion of the.
spindle, 6 the head carrying the reduction gears whose composition determines the pitch of the thread to be ground, 7 the drive pinion of the. lead screw 10 held rotatably, but without axial play in a bearing 8 integral with the table 9.
The lead screw 10 a, its. threaded part 11 engaged with a tubular nut 1.2 movable axially in a bore 14 of the table. To this nut 12 is fixed radially a rod 15 which is engaged in a slot of a rod 16 fixed to the table 9, or which is constantly applied against this rod, then full, by a spring not shown; those rods keep the nut from turning, everything. leaving him there. possibility of sliding.
The nut 12 ends in a stop grain 17 which, during grinding, bears on a fixed stop 18 integral with the frame 1.9.
The table 9 carries a second stop 20 which must come to rest on a stop 21 also integral with the frame 19 when the profiling device 4 is to be brought into the working position in front of the grinding wheel 1.
This will be achieved by actuating, by means of a pinion 23, a rack 22 guided in the table. 9; this pinion, carried by the table, is integral with an axis 24, on which is placed a control arm 25 provided with a stop button 29 which can immobilize it: on the table in two distinct and fixed positions 3 () and 31 (see fig. 2 and 3).
The chain 32 of the counterweight 33 is articulated at 26 on the rack 22; it passes between two return rollers 217 and 28, on one or the other of which it will partially wind depending on the relative position of the attachment point 26 with respect to the table 9.
We see from the above that the nut 1 \? has no rigid and permanent connection with the frame 19 and that it can quickly move away from the fixed stop 18 when it is desired to pass from the grinding position to the profiling position.
This is achieved when the machine is in the grinding position shown in fig. 1 by causing, by means of the lever 25, not sant from position 30 to position 31, and of the pinion 23, a sliding of the rack 22 carrying the attachment point 26 of the chain of the counterweight 33 which exerts on the table 9 a traction ensuring the contact of the stops 17 and 18 as long as the chain passes over the roller 27.
As soon as the movement of the point, of attachment 26, under the action of the lever 25, will cause the chain 3.2 to pass from the rollers 2 7 to the roller 28, the traction exerted by the counterweight on the table will take a reverse direction and will stress the table so as to bring the stop 290 into contact with 21. This contact will be maintained by the irreversibility of parts 22, 23, 24 and 25 obtained by the 'immobilization in 30 or 31 of the arm 25.
We see that with this machine, all that is needed is the rapid action of a hand control lever to alternately pass the table from the grinding position of the workpiece to the profiling position of the grinding wheel, ensuring the consistency of these two positions by the action of stops, which ensures high precision.
