Description

Process for the preparation of a new quaternary salt. It has been found that a new quaternary salt is obtained if the methyl ester is reacted with pyridine from the sulfochloride obtainable by sulfating the cymol with chlorosulfonic acid.
The new quaternary salt forms a colorless, water-soluble mass that can be used as a textile auxiliary.
EXAMPLE 22.8 parts by weight of the methyl ester from the sulfochloride obtainable by sulfonating the cymene with chlorosulfonic acid are heated with 8.8 parts by weight of dry pyridine to about 45, a vigorous reaction set in with self-heating. The mixture is heated in a boiling water bath for another hour and allowed to cool.
The reaction product is an oil which is soluble in water and which solidifies to a colorless mass when rubbed with petroleum ether.
The methyl cymene sulfonate can be obtained as follows: 217 parts by weight of cymene sulfonic acid chloride, which can be obtained, for example, in a known manner from cymene with the help of chlorosulfonic acid and which contains about 90% pure sulfochloride, are 67 parts by weight Methanol mixed.
A solution of 39 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide in 48 parts by weight of water at about 12 to 25 ° C. is then added dropwise in about 1 hour while stirring. The mixture is stirred for about 1 hour at room temperature and left to stand overnight.
The methyl cymolsulfonate formed is then dissolved in a solvent, e.g. B. ether, added, washed with water, dried = example, with calcium chloride, and finally freed from the solvent. plan receives the methyl cymolsulfonate in the form of an oil.
The new quaternary salt can be used as a printing aid or mixed with raw cresol or alkali-resistant sulfonated oils as a mercerizing wetting agent.
A printing paste can be prepared as follows, for example:

The pressure obtained in this way is stronger than a pressure produced in the same way, but without the use of the auxiliary material mentioned.
