Process for the preparation of a quaternary aminoacetic acid amide derivative. It has been found that by converting chloroacetyl-N-lorylariilide, which can be produced from N-lorylaniline and chloroacetyl chloride ("Loryl" is the alkyl radical, which corresponds to the mixture of higher molecular alcohols obtained from goos oil) ,
dimethylamine to dimethylamino-acetic acid-N-loi-ylanilide and treatment of the latter with dimethyl sulfate to the corresponding quaternary ammonium compound. The new compound, in the solid state an ointment-like to waxy mass of light color, dissolves very easily in water and has strong, capillary-active properties.
The new compound is intended to be used as a plasticizer, a stripping agent for naphthol AS and vat dyeing and as an agent for improving the waterfastness of directly dyed natural and reprecipitated cellulose.
Example: 300 g of chloroacetyl-N-lorylanilide, prepared from N-lorylaniline and chloroacetyl chloride, are added dropwise to 600 g of aqueous dimethylamine solution of 20.4 / o. Initially, the reaction mixture barely heats up, only when everything has been added does the temperature rise to 40-54o C. The reaction mixture is heated to 80-90 ° C. in the course of 3-4 hours and stirred at this temperature for a further 20 hours. The end product still has an alkaline phenolphthalein reaction and should be clearly soluble in acids. It is poured into 500 cm3 of water and the separated oil is separated off.
Then add 1 liter of water to the dimethylamino-acetic acid-N-lorylanilide and make Congo acidic with hydrochloric acid. The strongly foaming solution is freed from small amounts of byproducts with ether, the aqueous solution is made alkaline with soda, the end product is separated from the aqueous layer, dried and distilled in vacuo.
34.6 g of dimethylamino-acetic acid-N-loryl anilide are very slowly combined with 12.6 g of dimethyl sulfate so that the temperature does not exceed 50 ° C. Afterwards the mixture is left to stir for a further 1 / 4-1 / 2 hour at this temperature. The product is then completely and clearly soluble in water. The new compound is obtained as an ointment-like to waxy mass which dissolves very easily in water and has very pronounced, capillary-active properties.
The new compound is said to be used as a plasticizer, a stripping agent for naphthol-AS and güpen dyeings and as an agent for improving the water resistance of directly dyed native and reprecipitated cellulose.
