Dazu gibt man 312-5 Gewichtsteile l-Chlor-2-nitrobenzol-4.

Process for the preparation of nitro dyes.
It has been found that very valuable, brown nitro dyes are obtained by using nitro compounds of the general formula
EMI1.1
where Z is halogen or an alkoxy group and X is a sulfamide radical, condensed with p-aminophenylarylamines including their homologues, substitution products and hydrogenation products. The dyes dye the animal fibers in very uniform, brown shades with good fastness properties, in particular very good lightfastness.
The condensation takes place in water or in organic solvents or in mixtures of both by methods known per se. The reaction can be carried out either by heating on the reflux condenser or under pressure.
Examples:
1. 321 parts by weight of 4'-acetamino-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid are suspended in three times the amount of water and converted into the sodium salt when heated; 293 parts by weight of 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene-4-sulfodiethylamide and 22 parts by weight of magnesium oxide are added. The mixture is then kept at reflux until the condensation has ended. After cooling, the condensation product crystallizes out. The nitro dye is dissolved in about 6-8 parts by weight of hot water, 69 parts by weight of potassium carbonate are added and the mixture is filtered. Most of the potassium salt crystallizes out, the rest is precipitated with potassium chloride. The dye gives very uniform and lightfast, yellowish brown dyeings on wool.
It is also suitable for dyeing leather and produces lightfast, even, yellowish brown tones.
2. If 294 parts by weight of 4'-methoxy-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid are condensed in a manner analogous to that in Example 1 with 265 parts by weight of 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene-4-sulfodimethylamide in the presence of 69 parts by weight of potassium carbonate, a Dye which, like that described in Example 1, dyes the wool in yellowish brown shades of very good uniformity and lightness.
3. If instead of 4'-acetamino-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid, 264 parts by weight of 4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid are used and this is heated in the form of the sodium salt for 20 hours with 237 parts by weight of 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene-4- sulfamide in the presence of 54 parts by weight of eaten sodium carbonate, a dye crystallizes out which dyes wool a bit more yellowish brown than the product obtained according to Example 1, but also gives uniform and lightfast dyeings.

4,264 parts by weight of 4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid are dissolved in about 2000 parts by weight of water and the calculated amount of hot sodium carbonate. 312-5 parts by weight of 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene-4 are added. sulfanilide, heated to boiling with stirring and allowed to add dropwise% equivalent of an aqueous sodium carbonate solution in about 4 hours. The mixture is then heated to the boil for about 1 hour, the rest of the sodium carbonate solution is slowly added and the mixture is heated to the boil for a few more hours. The solution becomes the nitro dye of the following formula
EMI2.1
salted out with sodium chloride and sucked off. The brown powder obtained can be recrystallized from water.
With this dye, yellow-brown dyeings are obtained on wool which have good perspiration and water fastness and which can withstand light washing.
A dye with similar properties is obtained if the 264 parts by weight of 4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid in the above example are replaced by 321 parts by weight of 4'-acetamino-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid.
5. If the condensation described in Examples 2 and 4 is carried out with 294 parts by weight
EMI2.2
Dyes of similar properties.
6. If the 4'-acetamino-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid used in Example 1 is replaced by 285 parts by weight of 4'-acetamino-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-carboxylic acid, a dye with similar properties is obtained.
Instead of the nitrohalobenzenes used in the preceding examples, the corresponding nitroalkoxybenzenes can also be used for the preparation of the dyes.
Dyes with similar properties are obtained if the condensation is, for example,

diphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid, 3'-chloro-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-sulfonic acid, 4'-carboxy-4-aminodiphenylamine-2-carboxylic acid.
