Additional patent to main patent no. 171371. Process for the production of a new sulfur dye. It has been found that a new sulfur dye is retained if the 2- (4'-oxy) -phenylamiiioiiaphthalii) is sulphurised to a large extent with the exclusion of water. Under these conditions, the sulphurisation proceeds in such a way that a sulphurous dye is produced which dyes cotton in intensive black, chlorine-proof colors.
The new dye forms a blue-black powder that dissolves in sulfuric acid with a pure blue color and dyes cotton from the sulfur-sodium bath black and chlorine-real.
Example1: In 30 parts of molten sodium sulphide, 12 parts of sulfur are added. It is heated to dissolve the sulfur and evaporated at about 140 0 . This concentrated solution is added to 100 parts of alcohol. 9 parts of 2- (4'-oxy) -phenylaininoiiaphtbalin are then added and the mixture is refluxed for 48 hours. The alcohol is distilled off, the alcohol distilled off being replaced by water. The dyestuff is precipitated from the aqueous solution thus obtained with common salt or ammonium chloride.
Example 2: A concentrated polysulfide solution is prepared by dissolving 15 parts of crystallized sodium sulphide with 7 parts of sulfur and the solution at 1,400 evaporates. This solution is added to 50 parts of cyclohexanol. Then 3 parts of sulfur and 8 parts of 2- (4'-oxy) -phenylaminonaphthalene are added. You then cook for 4 hours. After the cyclohexanol has been driven off with steam, the dye is precipitated with common salt, ammonium chloride or hydrochloric acid.
Example3: 15 parts of sodium sulphide crystallized, 10 parts of water, 18 parts of sulfur , 10 parts of 2- (4'-oxy) -pheriylaminoiiaphthalit) and 4 parts of benzidine are intimately mixed and dried in vacuo. The mixture is baked at around 190-200 ' until no more hydrogen sulfide escapes. The melt is treated with hot sodium sulphide solution and the dye is precipitated from the filtrate in the usual way.
