Description
Process for the preparation of a p-Ogydiarylaminocarboxylic acid. In the Swiss patent specification. No. 141533 and its additives are the presentation of 2- (4'-oxyarylamino) naphthalenecarboxylic acids described, whereby the alkali salts of 2- (4'-oxyphenylamino) naphthalene and its homologues under pressure with carbonic acid at a higher temperature he heats up.
It has now been found that p-oxydiphenylamine and its derivatives, which contain no sulfo groups and in which an ortho position to the hydroxyl group is vacant, are capable of this reaction, and that in this way valuable oxydiarylamine carboxylic acids arise.
The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of a p-oxy-diarylamine carboxylic acid, characterized in that an alkali metal salt of 4-oxy-4'-methyl-diphenylamine is heated to a higher temperature with carbonic acid under pressure. The acid formed crystallizes from benzene and has a melting point of 165 to 166; Their alcoholic solution gives a deep blue color with ferric chloride. The product can be used as an intermediate in the manufacture of dyes.
Example: 796 parts of 4-oxy-4'-methyldipheny lamin are brought into solution with 2.60 parts of caustic potash and 1500 parts of water in an autoclave equipped with a stirrer and the water in a vacuum up to complete dryness of the potassium salt formed is distilled off.
After the reaction mass has cooled down, carbon dioxide is passed up to a pressure of 10 atm. and heated to 150 to 170 for 16 hours. The cooled melt is dissolved in hot water, filtered and the carboxylic acid formed is precipitated with hydrochloric acid. For further cleaning, it can be dissolved in water with soda or sodium acetate and precipitated again with hydrochloric acid.
