Briquet automatique.
Le dessin annexé montre, à, titre d'exemple, deux formes d'exécution -de ce briquet: Les fig. 1. 2 et 3 sont trois coupes vetti- cales @du briquet, respectivement en position de fermeture, -de demi-.ouverture et d'ouver ture :complète; La, fig.4 est un détail en section selon la ligne a-a de 1,â, fig. 1;
Automatic lighter. The object of the invention is an automatic lighter: of the type where the cover is opened when a button is pressed. controls the carpet and ignites the spark, -characterized in that the closing mechanism is:
constituted by a latch hooked into a nose of the cover and actuated by a button, which exits to the outside by passing through a groove -of the lighter box and can slide vertically in this groove, so that pnlzr to be able to press the button inwards e1 =, kir on the lock to cause the opening, of the lighter,
it is necessary to first slide the button down until the whole body of the button coincides with the groove, which prevents any accidental opening of the lighter.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of this lighter: FIGS. 1. 2 and 3 are three vertical sections @of the lighter, respectively in the closed, half-open and open position: complete; La, fig.4 is a detail in section along the line a-a of 1, â, fig. 1;
Figs. 5 and 6 are two vertical cuts of an alternative embodiment of the lighter.
The lighter comprises a butted box: e formed: of a body 1, on which the cover 2 is articulated by means of a screw 3. Said body 1 is provided inside with a substantially horizontal dividing wall 5 , which leaves at the lower part the fuel deposit 4, while at the upper part @de: this wall is mounted the igniter mechanism.
The plate 5 carries at its front part a tube 9 at the upper end of which the spout 10 is screwed. The tube 9 which is suitably riveted and welded to the plate 5, in order to avoid fuel losses, has .a suitable height, a collar: or circular rim 11.
The threaded connection between the- spout 10 and the tube 9 in which a washer can be interposed, if desired, forms, in the example of figs. 1 to 3, a tight seal which also prevents any escape: of gasoline between the nozzle 10 and the tube 9.
In addition, the wick passes very easily inside the tube 9, which also contributes to. avoid that, by the capillary effect, the gasoline can rise between the mècha and the hibe and come out in liquid form and wet the knob 6.
The wheel f> is controlled by the mauve of the cover 2 of the lighter by means of a connecting rod 12, so that, when the cover of the lighter is opened, the wheel turns causing the spark to shoot out of the stone. ferro = cerium 8, while when the lid of the lighter is closed, the wheel does not turn and therefore no sparking occurs.
The connection between the connecting rod 12 and the mo lette 6 can have different shapes; in the drawing there is shown an arrangement in which the wheel 6 is: mounted loose on its axis, and coaxially with it is provided a disc 14, coupled at a point of its circumference at one end of the connecting rod 12, this disc as well as the wheel being held on the axle by means of the screw 7.
The wheel 6 is hollow, and in its interior is disposed a coil spring, the end of which is suitably fixed at a point 20 of the disc 14 and is disposed -so that. when the cover 2 is closed, the disc 1.4 partially rotates from position ide in fig. 3 to that of, fig. 1, and, due to this movement, the spring contained inside the dial rolls up or contracts, ceasing to be in contact with the inner walls of the dial, so that the disc 1.1 turns and also the spring, while the.
. dial 6 remains stationary ,. On the other hand, when the lid is opened, the disc 14 rotates in the opposite direction and passes from the position of FIG. 1 to. : that of the fi-. 3; in this movement the spring relaxes, adhering to the internal walls of the. wheel, and strongly couples this wheel to the disc 14, forgetting to turn with the disc, and causing the spark to spring.
The articulation axis 3 of the cover 2 is surrounded by two helical springs 15, 16; the first one rests by an idea its ends on the bottom of the cover and by the other end on the ferro-cerium stone $, pressing Bette stone 8 radially against the wheel 6. The other spring 16 also rests by one of its ends on the bottom .du cou vercle -et form, in the example of fig.1 to.
3, at the same time an elastic support for the cap 17 adapted to the end of the arm 18, articulated around the same axis 13, so that, when the cover is closed, the cap 17 rests on the tip of the nozzle 10 and adapts exactly to this point thanks to the pressure of the spring 16, thus extinguishing the flame.
The lower end of this spring 16 serves at the same time as an elastic stopper for limiting the movement of the cover when it opens. as seen in fig. 3. In this way, the cover, due to the speed at which it opens, is prevented from damaging the edge of the rear part of the lighter box.
The automatic closing mechanism or spring lock to open the lighter has a special device that absolutely prevents the lighter from accidentally opening. This closure is constituted by a part 21 which can slide horizontally and which is guided through. the. rear part of the lighter, by the extension ?? passing through an opening of the. part 19 and is: actuated by the spring 23 which tends to push it to the left of the drawing.
At the front part of the lighter, that is to say to the left of the drawing, this part forms the lock 24, which. extends upwards forming the hook 25 which takes in the nose 20 of the lighter cover, so that, when the part 21 moves to the right, the hook 25 releases the nose 26, as seen in the figure fig. 2, and the cover then obeying the action of the springs 15, 16 opens until it takes the position @de the fi-. 3, operating knob 6 and the spark emerge.
As can be seen in fig.4, the part \ 11 is folded to. its anterior part by forming two -branches which remain guided by the tube 9 of the spout and maintained so that they cannot be lifted by the head 10 of said spout. With such a device the movement of the part 21 is perfectly guided, so that it can never stray from the correct position.
To push the part 21 from the outside, there is provided a -déclick or pressure button 27 consisting of a hollow metal part in the end, which protrudes outside the briquet through a groove 28 (fig. 1). seen in the wall of the box 1, so that this part 27 can take a veitica.l movement in this groove.
When the bri quet is closed, in the position of fig. 1, part 27 cannot be pushed directly inward because its upper edge 30 meets the upper bound of box 1 and also because the lower extension 29 (fig. 1 and 4) of this part 27 meets the projection 11 of the tube 9.
But if one exerts a downward pressure on the button 27 and at the same time towards the interior of the box 1, it follows that the button 27 goes down, as shown in FIG. 2. until its upper edge is in correspondence with the groove 28 and ion lower extension 29 remains below the. projection 11 of the spout.
In this position, the same pressure made with the thumb introduces the button 27 inside the lighter box, thanks to. what, this button by means of its fins 31 (fig. 4) exerts pressure on the slide 21, as seen in fig. 4, and pushes this part towards the right, thus detaching it from the nose 26 of the cover and allowing the latter to open.
So that, when one stops exerting pressure on the button 27, the latter returns to its normal position, as shown in FIG. 3, we expect .to. the interior of this button 27, a spring 32, the end of which, which forms an inclined plane, is introduced into one or opening 33 -of the closing part 24. Observing FIGS. 2 and 5, it can be seen that, when: we stop exerting pressure on the button 27, the spring 23 will push the part 21 to the left of the figure and will therefore also push the button 27, making it come out at outside the box.
Then, the spring 32 acting through its end which forms an inclined plane on the edge of the opening 33, will raise this res out 32 and the button 27 until they are placed in the position of FIG. 3.
It is understandable because it has been described that the operation of this mechanism is completely safe and that in no case can the opening of the lighter occur accidentally, since to open it it is necessary to exert pressure on the lighter. button 27 down and inward. This is not difficult when you want to open the lighter, because thanks to the position of the hand, when you open the lighter, this pre-ssion is done in a natural way and without any violence.
With the construction described, if it is desired to remove the wheel 6, it is necessary to start by dislocating the connecting rod 12. This is a very simple operation and which moreover hardly ever needs to be done.
The invention is not, moreover, limited to the only example described and represented, all .modifications of .detail being able to be made therein which do not alter the principle thereof.
Thus, in the example of fig. 5 and 6, the nozzle 10a is stamped (or turned) and mounted elastically with respect to the tube 9 of the wick, thanks to the spring 10b housed in. the interior of said spout. This still pushed upwards, but retained by the collar 10c. always fits tightly to the cap 17, which no longer needs to be resiliently mounted as in the previous example. This cap 17 is then riveted to the arm 18.
The nozzle 10a will never heat up, thanks to its hollow shape leaving an insulating air mattress between .lui and the tube 9, the gasoline will not risk coming: wet the wheel.
A: another modification that Won can note in the execution example according to fig. 5 and 6 consists in that the latch 24, forming a hook 25, is elastic and fixed, at its end 24a., To the wall of the lighter, the part 21 being omitted, hence a no table simplification -of construction .
On the other hand, a flat spring 21a is provided to form a stopper when opening: of the cover 2.
