Description

1 :~ 6598~

method oE cleanillcJ moulds in a lon(J moul~l bcd Eor casting consecutive concrete clcmcnts and a rail-bound mould-cleani3lc~ carria~e Tccllnical lield ~'he present inventi.on relates to a method of cleanin~
moulds Eor castinc~ consecutive concrete elements, such as concrete sleepcrs, a lonc3 bed comprisi.nc3 a plural.ity of mutually adjacent, vertically movable SUCIl moulds or 10 Eorms.

Background art A method of manufacturinc~ a plurality of sequential pre-tensioned concrete elements, for example concrete sleepers, in a lonc~ mould bed is described in Swedish Patent Speei;Eication No. 77 05021-9. US Patent 3 732 04 describes a production line for products of prestressed concrete comprisinc~ certain installations for cleanlnc~
i and oi~linc3.
O~jects o~ .invention __ 'rO enable conerete elements to be Inanufacturcd in accordance with factory standards, it is L~articularly important that the various moulds i.n the mould bcd can b~ -thorou~hly cleaned of concrete resi~lues aEter thc rnould-strippinc~ operation. The cleanincJ o~eratlon obtains, moreover, particular si~nificance in tllose instanees, when the mould shall be prepared in a manner to enable separate inser-t elements, sueh as rubber ; 30 plates, to be east i.n the eonerete elements. ~s will be unde~stood, any eonerete parti.eles whieh rcmain in the mould may cause the insert elements to be positioned obliquely when placed in the mould, which has disastrous consequences in respect of the quali.ty of the cast concrcte clcment. r.xpcriments havc shown tllat it is not suLficient to vacuum clean the mould, because of the strenc~th with which residual concrete particles adhere to the sides of the mould. Thus, in orcler to remove concrete residues the mou]d sides must be subjected to some ~ind of mechanical workincl, althouc~l experiments have sho~n that this does not provide a fully satisfactory result either. It has surprisinyly been found, however, that mechanical wor~incJ of the rnould sides by means of sui-table scrapinc~ devices, e.g. scraper plates, while blowinc~ air under hicJIl pressure into the mould throuc3h nozzles let into the mould provides a very cJood result.

Brief summary of invention lS In the method accordinc3 to the invention the moulds are c1eaned from concrete residues by the combined action oE b:lowinc3 and scrapinc~ with thc use oE
vertically movable scraper devices arrancled to contact the inner surfaces oE the mould, and with tl~e use of blower nozzles inserted in the mould.

The blower no%zles, wllich are suit.lbly in the Eorm of fan valves, produce a linear jet of air whlch cuts like a knife ac3ainst concrete particles adherincJ to ; 25 the mould. The scraper devices are, in turn, used primarily to remove concre~e particles in the rec3ion where tlle insert elements are later to be mounted, since it is of particular importance that said insert elements are placed correctly in the mould.
Because the scraper devices move up and down in the mould, an effective mechanical cleaninc3 operation is effected, while subjectincJ the adherinc~ concrete particles to stronq jets of air at the sar,le time. The `~ 35 removed concrete resiclues collect in the bot-tom of the mould, from which they can be reaclily removed .

~ 3 65~8'1 with the aid of a vacuum-cleaner suitably arranged on a rail-bound carriage ollowing said mould-cleaning carriage.
A preferred embodiment of a cleaning carriage provided with scraper devices and blow nozzles, for use when applying the invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.
According to one broad aspect -therefore, the present invention relates to a method of cleaning a mould employed in the casting of concrete elements, including the steps of (a) imparting longitudinal movement to a cleaning carriage located above said mould, said carriage including at least one scraper mechanism having at least a pair of scraper plates and at least one blowing mechanism havincl at least a pair of nozzles; and (b) alternately lowering and raising said scraper mechanism into said mould to engage said plates with mutually opposed walls of said mould; and simultaneously admitting air under pressure to said nozzles so -that the latter emit jets o air directed to impinge on said mutually opposed walls, said plates and nozzles thereby removing concrete particles from said walls.
According to another broad aspect, the present invention relates to a rail-bound cleaning carriage or use when manufacturing consecutive concrete elements, ln an elongate bed of sequential moulds, said carriage including a frame s-tructure provided with rail-bound wheels and a drive motor, characterized by means for releasably fixing the carriage in an exact location relative to the mould, 1 1 65a~

vertically movable scraper means arranged to engage the inner surfaces o~ -the mould to clean said surfaces of concrete residues, vertically movable blow nozzles arranged for lowering into the mould, and a compressor and a plurality of magnet valves connected to blow nozzles for delivering an air stream under high pressure therefromO
Brief Description of the Drawings .
Figure 1 is a plan view of the cleaning carriage.
Figure 2 is a front view of the carriage illustra-ted in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side view of the carriage illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 4 illustrates on the left side thereof part of the side view of the carriage according to Figure 3 in laryer scale, while to th~ right of Figure 4 is illustrated a corresponding part ; of the carriage in front view and in the same scale as the left part o~ the figure.
Description of the Preferred Embodiment When casting consecutive concrete elements such as concrete sleepers in a long mould bed comprising a plurality of mutually adjacent, vertically movable moulds with the use of carriages arranged for movement along the bed on rails, subsequent to casting and hardening the concrete elements the moulds are successively stripped. For that purpose special devices (not shown) may be used located on a carriage and arranged to withdraw ~ .

~ ~B~9~L1 -the mould holders of respective moulds and to release the cas-t concrete elemen-ts by pressing the mould down agains-t ver-tically movable mould holder elements swung in beneath the mould. The cast concrete elements may -then be removed by using special carriages for this purpose.
The work of preparing the mould for renewed castiny shall then begin. The prime work in connection herewith is the cleaning of the mould, whereat there is used a separate cleaning carriage which will be described hereinafter. The mould shall also be oiled, which is suitably done after placing in the mould separate elements, such as rubber plates (not shown), which are to be cast in the concrete elements.
The il:lustrated cleaning carriage comprises a robus-t frame structure 61 having four wheels 62 arranged to run on rails 30 and driven by a reversible air motor 63 via a chain. The carriage has four pneumatic cylinders 64 and -two pneuma-tic cylinders 65 for moving holders 66 up and down. The holders 66 carry a plurali-ty of fan-liXe blow nozzles 67 arranged -to produce linear air flows under high pressure against the sides of the mould. The nozzles co-act with sixteen scraper plates 78, arranged to engage the sides of the mould and therewith to cleanse said sides of concrete residues. The scraper plates 78 are arranged to move up and down under the action of cylinders 65A and 65B which carry out a slow, oscillating movement. Also arranged on the carriage is an air compressor 68 and magnet valves 69A-69D
(Fig. 1).

~ ~5~4 The cleaning carriage is also arranged to move along -the mould bed at two speeds. Thus, the motor 63 drives the carriage at a maximum speed until the motor receives a signal for creep driving. The carriage then moves slowly forwards until it reaehes its correct position, whereat the motor stops and the cylinder 64 locks the carriage in -this position. The cylinder 65A then begins to move under the action of a limit switch (not shown), whereat the magnet valve 69A opens. The eylinder 65A then returns until a further limit switeh (not shown) is activated, whereat the direction of movemen-t of the cylinder is reversed, etcetera. At the same time a time relay (not shown) is activated, which causes eyelie closing and opening of the valves 69A and 69B, whereat air under high pressure is delivered from the nozzles 67 at suitable intervals.
When the eylinder 64 has moved to its starting position, the motor 63 is started and a new eycle commenees.
~ The earriage is also provided with an anti-collision deviee having a safety switeh 79. Separate proteetive plates 18 pxevent eonerete residues from splashing against the nozzles, for example, during a eleaning operation.
