a presente invenção se refere a materiais compósitos resistentes a projéteis de armas de fogo que têm alta flutuabilidade positiva em água. mais particularmente, a presente invenção fornece materiais compósitos flutuantes isentos de espuma e fabricados com o uso de técnicas de processamento a seco. os materiais compreendem estratos fibrosos que são parcialmente revestidos com um aglutinante particulado que é termoprensado para transformar uma porção do aglutinante em retalhos descontínuos elevados ligados às superfícies de fibra/fita, enquanto uma outra porção do aglutinante particulado permanece nas fibras/fitas como partículas não fundidas. a presença das partículas de aglutinante não fundidas mantém espaços vazios dentro dos materiais compósitos que aumentam a flutuabilidade positiva dos compósitos em água.
