"PROCESSO PARA OXIDAR CELULOSE, CELULOSE OXIDADA, E, DERIVADO DE CELULOSE". Um processo para oxidar celulose, no qual um composto de nitroxila tal como TEMPO é oxidado usando um agente oxidante na presença de um complexo de um metal de transição tal como Mn, Fe, Cu, e um agente complexante tal como uma poliamina, ou uma enzima oxidativa, e o íon nitrosónio resultante é empregado para seletivamente oxidar os grupos 6-hidróxi-metileno de celulose a grupos carbaldeído e a grupos ácido carboxílico.
