<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

a -COOH or -SOH group and

R represents a halopyrimidyl radical containing 1 to 3 halogen atoms or a low molecular weight alkanoyl or alkylene group comprising at least one halogen atom and in which the rings A and B together have 1 to 3 sulphonic groups .
The metals taken into account for the metallization are preferably copper, nickel, chromium and cobalt.
The process for the manufacture of these Metalliferous szo compounds consists of treating an azo compound corresponding to the formula
EMI2.1
in which A, B, X and Y correspond to the above definitions, with an agent which transfers metal ions and to introduce into the nucleus B before or after the metallization the group -NH-R according to the usual method.
For this, one can couple 1 molecule of the dizoic compound of an ortho-amino-hydroxyl derivative optionally containing suitonic groups, with 1 molecule of a 1- (3'- or -4'-amino) -pheny1-5- pyrazolone, transform in the amino-azo dye thus obtained the amino group into -NH-R group by condensation then treat the colo-

rant with a metal ion transfer agent, the order in which the metallization and the condensation are carried out can also be reversed. The above amino-azo dye is also obtained if a 1- (3'- or -4'-acylamino) -pheny1-5-pryazolone or 1- (3'- or -4'-acylamino) -pheny1-5-pryazolone or a 1- (3'- or -4'-nitro) -pheny1-5-pryazolone.
The acylamino or nitro-azo dye thus obtained is saponified or reduced according to the usual methods. Finally, it is also possible to use as coupling component a pyrazolone which already contains in position 3 'or 4' the radical -NH-R. There then remains only the metallization to be carried out.
It is also possible to copper by oxidation an azo compound corresponding to

<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The oxidative copper plating which is optionally carried out can be carried out according to the process described in German Patents Nos. 807,289, 889,196 or 893 * 699, preferably however according to the process described in Examples 1 and 4 to 10 of German patent no. 807.289 with a soluble copper salt and water. oxygenated at temperatures between 20 and 80 C.
The possible de-coppering can be done by treating the copper complex in a mineral acid medium at temperatures between and
20 and 1000 C @ ensuring that the reactive radical or any other radical present is not modified.
Once the o.o-dihydrooxy-azo dye has precipitated in an acidic medium, the copper salts which are in dissolved form are removed by filtration.
De-coppering can also occur when, in a copper complex dye which contains a substituent which readily converts to an amino group, this substituent is converted to an amino group.
For example, if a copper complex containing a nitro group is converted to an amino-azo dye by reduction with sodium sulphide or hydrosulfide, or a corresponding dye containing an acylamine group by hydrolysis. 4 hot with mineral acid, de-coppering occurs and an o.o'-dihydroxy-azo dye remains.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The substituent transforming an amino group can be a nitro group or an acylamine group (eg, an acetylamine, benzoyl-amino, oxalylamine or carbalkoxy-amino group). The conversion to the amino group takes place by reduction of the nitro group, for example by treatment with an aqueous solution of sulphide or hydrosulfide. '' sodium, preferably at temperatures between 60 and 90 C, or by hydrolysis of the acylamino group, for example by dissolution in 10 to 20 times the amount of concentrated sulfuric acid and.
dilution with water up to a concentration of 80% sulfuric acid, so that the temperature rises to approximately 100 C, or by heating in an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxides, preferably in a solution of 5 to 10% sodium or potassium hydroxide between 70 and 100 C.
The conversion of o.o'-dihydroxy-azo dyes into their copper or nickel complexes is preferably carried out in aqueous solution, in a weakly acidic medium (eg in the presence of acetic acid) to weakly alkaline at temperatures between 20 and 70 C and in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a low molecular weight monocarboxylic acid. The quantity of metallizing agent which is made to act on a dye molecule must contain 1 metal atom. The conversion of o.o'-dihydroxy-azo dyes into their chromium or cobalt complexes is preferably carried out in in an aqueous solution or in an organic medium such as formamide or in the concentrated aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
The amount of metallizing agent which is made to act on two mono-azo dye molecules must contain less than two, but more than one metal atom.
Chromium compounds suitable for metallization are, eg chromium fluoride, chromium sulphate, chromium formate, chromium acetate, potassium chromium sulphate, chromium sulphate. ammonium and chromium. It is also possible to use chromates such as sodium or potassium chromate or dichromate,
It is better to work here in a strongly alkaline environment, adding reducing agents if necessary.
Among the cobalt-containing compounds which can be used, mention should be made of cobalt formate, cobalt acetate and cobalt sulfate. If the metallization is carried out in the solution. As a concentrated acid of an alkali salt of a low molecular weight monocarboxylic aliphatic acid, insoluble metal compounds such as cobalt hydroxide or cobalt carbonate can also be employed.
It is particularly advantageous to carry out the metallization in an aqueous or alkaline medium by adding the metallic compounds in the presence of bodies which, with the heavy metals, form soluble complexes in caustic alkali medium, such as, for example, tartaric acid. , citric acid and lactic acid.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
The charomiferous and cobaltiferous azo dyes which are obtained are homogeneous metal complexes in which in principle two mono-azo dye molecules are linked to a metal atom. In other words, they are 1: 2 complexes in which one mono-azo compound molecule is bonded to about 0.3-0.7 metal atoms.
The metal complexes thus obtained are precipitated from their aqueous medium by adding salt, if necessary after having poured the solution into brine; they are then filtered, possibly washed and dried.
These new metalliferous reactive dyes are suitable for dyeing leather. They are suitable for dyeing, padding and printing animal fibers such as wool, silk, synthetic polyamide fibers such as nylon, cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp, and regenerated cellulose fibers, such as viscose, copper rayon, fibranne, as well as mixtures thereof or articles based on these fibers.
The optimum application conditions vary depending on the type of fiber and the dyes used. Animal fibers and synthetic polyamide fibers are preferably dyed or printed in an acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline medium, for example in the presence of acetic acid, formic acid, sulfuric acid, ammonium sulfate , sodium metaphoaphate, etc.
It is also possible to dye in an acetic or neutral bath in the presence of leveling agents such as polyoxethylated fatty amines or their mixtures with ethers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
alkoly-polyglycolics and weakly neutralize or alkalize the bath at the end of the dyeing by adding small amounts of an alkaline reacting agent such as ammonia, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, etc. or compounds which give an alkaline reaction with heat, such as hexamethylenetetramine or urea.
Finally, the dyes are rinsed thoroughly and optionally acidified with a little acetic acid.
The dyeing, padding, printing or fixing on the cellulose fibers is preferably carried out in an alkaline medium, for example in the presence of sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium or potassium hydroxide, sodium metasllicate. sodium, sodium borate, trisodium phosphate, ammonia etc. In order to avoid reduction phenomena, it is often good to add a mild oxidizing agent such as sodium 1-nitrobenzene-3-sulfonate when dyeing, padding or printing the fibers.
On cellulosic fibers also, the fixing is generally carried out hot.
Dyes and prints on cellulosic fibers are particularly characterized by their extraordinary wet fastnesses which result from the formation of a stable chemical bond between the dye molecule and the cellulose molecule.
Often not all of the dye is involved in the reaction with the fiber. In this case, the unbound dye part is removed by an appropriate operation such as rinsing and / or soaping, possibly at elevated temperatures; Synthetic detergents such as, for example, alkylarysulphonates, sodium lauryl sulphate, the sodium salt of sulphated lauryl polyglycol ethers as well as mono- and dialkyl-phenyl-polyglycol ethers can be used for this purpose.

The mixture is stirred for about 2 hours at 60 under reflux.
The pH of the solution is maintained between 5.0 and 6.0 by adding in portions a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate.
When all the amino-azo dye has disappeared, the solution is allowed to cool after having filtered it, and then the dye is released by means of potassium chloride. After filtration, the wet dye is dissolved again in 40 parts of water and then 2.5 parts of crystallized sodium acetate and 11.5 parts of approximately 14% copper sulfate solution are added to this solution. (molar solution). Thereafter, 35 to 40 parts of a 5% hydrogen peroxide solution are added dropwise over a period of 4 hours, while maintaining the pH between 4.5 and 5.0 by means of a little. of an ammonia solution. The copper complex dye is precipitated with potassium chloride, it is filtered and then dried.
