<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
milieu aqueux.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Les colorants pouvant être utilisés pour colorer.les matières textiles cellulosiques conformément à la présente invention peuvent être obtenus par des procédés connus et peuvent contenir du nétal lié coordinativement, comme le cuivre. Par exemple, une proportion moléculaire d'un composé amino-mono- ou -polyazolque (dont le groupe amino peut être monosubstitué) contenant au moins un groupe ionogène solubilisant, par exemple -SOH ou -CO?H, peut être condensée avec une proportion moléculaire d'un halogénure cyanurique comme le chlorure ou le bromure cyanurique pour donner des colorants contenant un groupement dihalogénotriazine;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to a coloring process and more particularly to a coloring process for obtaining solid colorations on cellulosic textile materials.
Main Patent No. 543,218 describes a process for dyeing cellulosic textile materials in which the textile materials are impregnated in an aqueous medium with a monoazo or polyazo dye which is characterized in that it contains at least one solubilizing ionogenic group and at least one. times an amino or substituted amino group carrying as N-substituent a 1: 3: 5-triazine radical containing at least one halogen atom attached to a ring carbon atom. triazine after which these textile materials are subjected to the action of an acid-fixing agent in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
aqueous medium.
It has now been found that this process can be modified by carrying out the treatment with the acid fixing agent before the treatment with the dye and that in this way dyes can be obtained on cellulosic textile materials which are very resistant to the treatments by wet process as in the case of the invention described in the main patent and also without having to manufacture an alkali-cellulose as described in the prior processes.
The manufacture of alkali cellulose as described in known methods involves treating the cellulosic material with concentrated alkali, preferably in alcoholic solution, for a considerable period of time, while in the coloring process which makes up the process. object of the present invention, the alkali is used in dilute aqueous solution, conditions under which the formation of alkali-cellulose, described in the prior processes, does not take place. One of the advantages of the process of the present invention is that no alkali cellulose is formed and therefore the strength of the cellulosic material is not affected.
Further, in the coloring process of the invention, the use of high alkali concentrations and the use of solvents as described in known processes are not required and these advantages, together with the relatively short duration of The treatment which is necessary makes application much easier by means of existing dyeing apparatus.
According to the present invention, therefore, in a method of dyeing cellulosic textile materials with a monoazol or polyazo dye containing at least one solubilizing ionogenic group and also at least one 1: 3: 5-triazinyl-amino or amino group. N-substituted containing at least a halogen atom attached to a carbon atom of the triazine ring, the textile material is impregnated with an acid-fixing agent in an aqueous medium and the textile material is then treated with a solution. knotty of the dye.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
As suitable diacid fixing agents for the new process, mention may be made, for example, of caustic alkalis such as soda, or caustic potash, moderately alkaline metal oxides such as magnesium oxide or salts of weak inorganic alkali metals such as diacids. sodium and potassium carbonates and bicarbonates, trisodium phosphate and sodium metasilicate.
The concentration of the diacid binding agent solution or suspension used can be 0.1 to 3.0%.
In some cases, even smaller proportions of this agent can be used, for example 0.01%.
When carrying out the method described above, the excess of the acid fixing agent solution can be removed before treatment with the dye. Before treating the material impregnated with the dye, the latter may; if desired, be dried at any suitable temperature, for example a temperature between 80 and 110 C. Therefore, in one aspect of the invention, the treatments with the acid binding agent and the dye. can be carried out in the form of two larding operations. In another aspect, the impregnation with the acid fixing agent can be carried out by a padding operation and the dye can be applied by printing the impregnated textile material with a thickened printing paste containing the dye. .
As a variant, the treatments with the acid fixing agent and with the dye can be carried out successively in a single bath; by first immersing the cellulosic material in a solution of the acid binding agent and then adding the dye thereto.
When the dye solution and the acid fixing agent are applied by padding operations, separately or in a single process bath, it is usually found that it is desirable to heat or vaporize the material. treated for a short period of time, for example 1 to 5 minutes, these heat treatments generally reducing the amount of colorant removed in subsequent washing operations.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Dyes which can be used to color cellulosic textile materials in accordance with the present invention can be obtained by known methods and can contain coordinatively linked netal, such as copper. For example, a molecular proportion of an amino-mono- or -polyazole compound (of which the amino group can be monosubstituted) containing at least one solubilizing ionogenic group, for example -SOH or -CO 2 H, can be condensed with a proportion molecularly of a cyanuric halide such as cyanuric chloride or bromide to give dyes containing a dihalotriazine group;
it is also possible to use the products obtained by replacing a second of the halogen atoms of the cyanuric halide by a hydroxyl, thiol or amino group or by an organic radical linked by an oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atom; one can also use the products obtained by the reaction of a 2-alkyl- or 2-aryl-4: 6-dihalogenotriazine such as, 2-methyl-4: 6-dichloro-s-triazine and 2-phenyl-4 : 6-dichloro-s-triazine with a molecular proportion of an amino-monoazo or polyazo compound containing at least one solubilizing ionogenic group.
The dyes used in the process of the invention can be applied to any cellulosic textile materials, for example cotton, linen and regenerated cellulose.
When it is desired to treat the entire surface of the material with the dye solution, commonly used dye bath adjuvants, for example sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium alginate, can be added to the dye solution. water-soluble alkyl ethers of cellulose and urea.
In the printing process of the invention, the pastes. The printers used may contain the adjuvants commonly employed, for example urea and thickeners such as methyl cellulose, starch and locust bean gum, but it is preferable to use an alginate, for example alginate of sodium.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
After having treated the textile material with the solution of the dye, the colored textile material can be washed, for example by rinsing in water, in order to remove the dye which is possibly poorly fixed, the acid fixing agent and the dye or printing paste bath additives present in the textile material. The fastness of the dyed textile material to wet treatments, and to rubbing is usually increased by subjecting it to washing in a boiling aqueous solution of a soap or detergent.
This wash, preferably carried out for 5 to 15 minutes, is much more severe than that normally: used as a wash phase during dyeing or printing with most commercial direct dyes, because these dyes would be removed from the fiber by a washing treatment of this nature.
The new process is particularly interesting for the monoazo or polyazo dyes defined above, which when applied in a neutral dye bath, have a low substantivity on cellulose, and especially those which have a lower affinity for cellulose than chrysophenin. G.
The terms "substantivity" and "affinity" used herein have the meanings given on pages 172 and 102, respectively; of "The Physical Chemistry of Dyeing", second edition, by T. Vickerstaff, published in 1954 by Oliver and Boyd, London.
By applying the process of the invention to cellulosic materials, colorations of excellent resistance to light, to wet treatments and to rubbing are obtained. The process is advantageous in its ease of application compared to existing processes used to achieve colorations of similar fastness properties, using, for example, tank dyes, solubilized tank dyes and azo dyes. These colorations are even obtained by the single bath process described herein using conventional batch dyeing apparatus.

The invention is illustrated, but not limited, by the following examples in which the parts and proportions are expressed by weight.
EXAMPLE 1. -
100 parts of a plain-temperature plain-weave cotton fabric were padded with an aqueous solution containing 1.0% sodium hydroxide, the fabric was squeezed between rolls until its weight was 200 parts and then dried at 100 C. The fabric is then padded in an aqueous solution containing 2% of the red dye obtained by coupling diazotized orthanilic acid with 1- (4 ': 6'-dichloro acid -s triazin-2'-ylamino) -8-naphthol-3: 6-disufonic, the tissue is squeezed until its weight is about 200 parts and then subjected to spraying at 100 C for l 'minute.
The fabric is then rinsed thoroughly in water -., -,. The residual caustic alkali is partially neutralized by treatment in aqueous sodium bicarbonate and the fabric is then boiled in a dilute soap solution, followed by treatment with aqueous sodium bicarbonate. rinse it in water and dry it.
The fabric is dyed a strong bright red in the wash and light.
EXAMPLE 2. -
A cotton fabric is padded in a 3% aqueous solution of caustic soda, it is expressed between rollers until the weight of solution retained by the fabric is equal to the weight of the fabric and it is dried.
The treated fabric is printed with a printed paste prepared by mixing together:

The fabric is then dried, subjected to spraying for 5 minutes, rinsed in water. It is washed for 5 minutes in a boiling 0.3% aqueous solution of a neutral detergent, rinsed again in water and dried.
The cog impressions obtained have good fastness to washing and to light and the shade is united on the colored part. On the other hand, on a cotton fabric treated in an identical manner except that the padding solution contains 15% by weight of caustic soda, the prints obtained are not united on the colored part.
In a similar way, one obtains respectively united and non-united yellows if the dye used in the printed paste is-replaced by the dye obtained by coupling diazotized 2-naphthylamine-4: 8-disulfonic acid with m-toluidine and by condensing the resulting aminoazo compound with a molecular proportion of cyanuric chloride.
EXAMPLE 3.-
100 parts of plain weave cotton fabric are padded with a 0.5% aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate or the fabric is squeezed between rollers until its weight is 200 parts and then dried at a temperature of 80 ° C. The dried fabric is then padded with a 1% aqueous solution of the red dye used in Example 1 and is unpressed between rollers until its weight is 200 parts. The fabric is then dried in a dryer at 110 C for 2 minutes and rinsed thoroughly with hot water. It is then washed for 3 minutes in a boiling aqueous solution. 0.3% detergent and dried.
The fabric is dyed bright red with excellent fastness to wet treatments.
