<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Exemple 1

is subjected to a carbazolation reaction under the action of aluminum chloride, with the addition of a tertiary base free from hydroxyl groups, preferably a pyridine base.
The dye of a reddish gray which is obtained by this process is characterized by very good fastness to light and to washing, but has the drawback, however, of not being solid to chlorite.
The present invention relates in particular to a process making it possible to prepare a solid chlorite dye, with a shade ranging from gray to gray tending to olive. This process is characterized by the fact that, during the carbazolation of linear tetranthrimide, at least 2 parts, and preferably 4 to 6 parts of aluminum chloride, as well as the amount of etranthrimide, are used for one part of etranthrimide. - corresponding to a tertiary base, the carbazolation being carried out for at least 3 hours, and preferably for 5 to 8 hours, at a temperature between 130 and 150.
The compound dE) of the above formula which serves as a starting material for the present process can be prepared from one mol of 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthrimide technical and 2 mol of 1-chloroanthraquinone or from a 4-halogeno-1,1'-dianthrimide and 4-amino-1,1'-dianthrimide or

also from a 1-halogen-anthraquinone and lamitlo-l, ¯l!, t, ltl-trianthrimlc1e, by reaction in a high-boiling solvent, such as nitrobenzene, with the addition of Agents capable of binding acids and catalytic amounts of copper salts or copper powder.
As an example of a tertiary base suitable for the implementation of the present procedure, it is necessary to mention

3a triethylamine. Cyclic bases such as quinoline i.lacridirie. 9 and especially pyridine bases, such as pyridine itself and its immediate homologues, for example: .ethYlpyridines, such as lta-picoline or mixtures of fyridine bases such as the technical mixture of P and -picoline, however, are particularly suitable.
The ratio between the aluminum chloride and the tertiary base must be chosen so that at approximately 100,
EMI3.3
a well-stirred melt is formed. When using pyrlelinic bases, a ratio of 1: 1.6 to 1: 2 between the aluminum chloride and the tertiary base turns out to be advantageous.
The temperature Day 3 of carba. ', Olation between 1.30 and 150 0 is advantageously chosen around 14 ° / and it does not differ, for example, by more than a few degrees,
In the non-limiting examples which follow, and unless indicated, the parts and percentages are understood by weight, and the temperatures are indicated in degrees centigrade,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Example 1
