<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

In a loom without a shuttle or find means to: - Insert the pick, - Pack the pick, - Open and close the shed as in any loom currently in use.
The main problem of a shuttleless loom resides in obtaining adequate means to insert the pick in good conditions, the other operating principles of a shuttleless loom may not differ from those of shuttle looms.
The main object of the present invention is therefore a weft driving member of extremely simple operation and without misfires requiring only a small shed opening and allowing the warp yarns to work under excellent conditions.
It also relates to means for moving this organ.
On the other hand, as a consequence of the small dimensions of the shed, it is aimed at means for controlling the leaf and controlling the harness using mechanical arrangements forming an innovation in the art of building looms.
Ultimately, the object of the invention is a shuttle-less weaving loom comprising new means for ensuring: the presentation of the weft to a driving member; - the gripping of the weft thread by said member; - loosening the thread at the right time, when a sufficient length has been pulled through the shed, - severing the weft thread, - obtaining selvedges, - back-and-forth control - comes from the driving organ, - the shutter control, - and the crowd control.
The invention will in any case be well understood by referring to the accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of this loom:

Fig. 18 is, in perspective, a view corresponding to that of FIG. 10, with the addition of an associated device for permutation of two different frames.
In Figures 1, 2 and 3, 2 designates the frame of the loom carrying, along its rear edge, the beam roll .2 and, along its front edge, the fabric winding roll.
The frame 2 laterally carries an electric motor 1 which, by belts 6 drives a pulley 1 wedged on a shaft 8 placed vertically in the plane of symmetry of the body of the trade. This shaft carried by and rotating in bearings carries at its top, a crank 10 and at its base a bevel pinion 12. The pulley.7 is formed by a plate, in the upper face of which a deformed circular groove 13 is formed. by a sinuosity 14 on a portion of its periphery.
The crank 10 is articulated at the end of a tubular connecting rod 15 terminating, as shown in Figures 1 and 6, by a yoke 16¯ allowing it to be coupled, in an adjustable manner, to an arm 17 formed of braced tubes. This arm 17 is itself, by one of its ends, articulated to another arm of the same type 18¯, pivoting in bearings 19 with a vertical axis, carried by the frame 2 of the loom. At its other end, the arm 17 is articulated to a slider 21 mounted in a slide 22 carried by the frame 2, followed its front edge and which will be discussed more fully below.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This zipper extends over a length greater than doubling the width of the fabric. It is, in fact, called upon to allow the movement of the slider 21 on which the weft-pulling member 23 is mounted, so that said weft-pulling member can be withdrawn entirely from the shed and beyond. beyond, to allow threshing.
EMI3.1
The weft-pulling member 3 is therefore driven in a continuous back-and-forth movement via the rotary shaft 8, of the crank.

Between the two colors 24 and .25., 'The weft-pulling member 23 is supported along the comb 31 (Figs. 2 and 5) by the usual projection 70 of the leaf.
EMI3.4
This comb .lI .. is carried by a fitting (Figures 2 and 5) fixed to the top of the leaf 33. The latter, consisting of spaced tubes, is articulated at its base around an axis ± carried by the frame 2, near its upper part, it has a cylindrical cross member

This plate being suitably wedged on the main shaft. 1, the leaf 33 remains stationary, in the rear position, as long as the roller 41 rolls in the circular part of the groove; 1, then is suddenly moved forward to beat the weft, when said roller moves in the

cloudiness there of said groove; during the duration of the movement the weft-pulling member 23 continues to move outside the crowd.
Given the very small section of the weft-pulling member 23 and of its head 26, it suffices to open the shed 42 very little (FIG. 5) to allow it to pass. This is why the loom, object of the invention, is provided with a particularly simple device for controlling the heddles 43, in the case of simple weaves for plain fabrics.
These rails are carried by frames 44 integral with chassis 45 (Figures 2 and 3) free to slide vertically in notches 46 (Figures 3 and 4) secured to the frame. 2. Each of these frames 45 is, provided, in its base, in its middle part, of a rod 47 which, mounted freely in

The head ± which will be more fully described below constitutes the front end of the weft-pulling sword 23. This sword (Figures 7 and 14) is made up of a metal section forming, with the head 26 at the-

At its rear end (fig. 1, 7 and 17), 1'µµée 23 is provided with an added boss 72 in which is drilled a hole with an axis perpendicular to the horizontal wing 23b of the sword; this hole allows the passage of the rod 74 of a bolt or other ensuring the fixing of said sword 23 on the slider 21 animated, as indicated in the above, with a back-and-forth movement in the slide fixed 22.

The sword z is therefore thrown into the crowd, like a billiard cue in the hands of a player; the cursor 21 corresponds to the hand which pushes the tail, while the lane 24 corresponds to the hand which guides it.
Figures 8 to 16 and Figure 18 relate essentially to the composition and operation of the elements constituting the head 26

of the sword 23 and intended to seize the weft thread 28 at the desired moment to drive it, then to release it.
These elements consist of two plates 81 and 82 (Figures 15 and 16) placed one above the other and fixed "head to tail" on
EMI4.9
the horizontal wing 23b of the head of the sword 23. The plate 82 makes contact with that 81 which it partially covers so as to form therewith a sort of V whose base is their point of contact and whose the opening faces towards the back of the sword.
For this, the upper plate 82 is slightly raised in the form of a beak 82a on the side of one of its ends which is free, this beak 82a being directed in the direction of retreat of the sword 23.
On the other hand, the lower plate ± exerts elastic pressure against the upper one 82, unhitching so that it is possible, by lowering said ± plate, to remove this point of contact.
In the aforementioned contact zone there is a -teton83 carried by the upper plate and freely passing through the lower plate 81 through a hole84 which the latter presents.
EMI4.10
These elements are found in the shelter of the vertical wing 2'3a of the sword ± ±, this vertical wing descending gently towards its sharp point 85. It is understood that any wire 2g presented below the or-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
calf of the beak 82a of the plate 82 engages between it and that 81 during the recoil movement of the sword 23 and only during this movement.
On the other hand, due to the presence of the vertical wing 23a, no warp wire 42 can under any circumstances be hung,
When the weft thread 28 has started to engage between the two plates 81 and 82, it tends to get stuck there all the more strongly as it opposes a greater resistance to the advance. To increase this wedging effect, the plates 81 and 8e can be provided at their point of contact with ridges 86 (FIG. 15).
The role of the stud 83 is to limit the sinking of the wire 28 by giving it, each time, a precise position. This stud facilitates, moreover, the subsequent release of the wire.
The figure shows how the weft thread 28 coming from the reserve 29 (fig. 1) and passing through the die ± bringing it below the level of the beak 82a of the plate 82, between this beak 82a and the wing vertical 23a of the sword, is engaged between the two plates 81 and 82 when the recoil of the sword 23 begins.
Note that this thread is still part of the previous pick to which it still holds at a point B on the edge of the fabric.
It is easy to see that if the sword 23 continues to move back (direction of the arrow in FIG. 9), the wire must necessarily break between said point B and point A where it comes out between the two plates, 87 and 82.
However, to avoid an abnormal force on the selvedge yarns and an unclear breakage, the invention provides for placing a cutting member on the path AB so that the yarn follows applied to the cutting edge by the effect of its reversal as shown in figures 9, 10 and 18.
According to a preferred embodiment, FIG. 16 shows the plate 82 provided with a cutting edge on its part 88. suitably bent and sharp.
Figure 14 shows in perspective the weft thread 28 being cut on the cutting edge 87.
It can also be seen that the free end of the weft thread 28a sect: b n- born at the edge of the fabric is over a certain length naturally returned to the shed. This feature makes it possible to obtain, on the edge of the fabric concerned, an excellent selvedge 91 with tucked-in ends. To ensure that this upturned end is held in position, the end of the weft-pulling member may have on its edge a few brush bristles 89 which, as they pass, sink well into the bottom of the shed; this arrangement, which is optional, is only shown in figure 18.
It can therefore be seen that the simple recoil of the drag or sword drive member triggered a series of operations without the use of any kind of articulated members, cams, levers, etc ...
The invention also provides means so that, when the head 26 of the sword 23 has passed through the shed by driving the weft thread 28 over a suitable length, this weft thread is released between the plates 81 and 82. In general, a pusher is provided fixedly mounted on the loom so that the sword at the end of its travel presents to it a projection which, bearing on said pusher, forces the plates 81 and 82 to rest. separate by moving away from one another, the pressure of these plates against each other being obtained by an elastic phenomenon.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
According to a preferred embodiment, the lower plate 81 is constituted by a leaf spring, the free end of which bears resiliently with a certain force against the plate 82 from the bottom up, which avoids the need for any joint.
On the other hand, its free end is not entirely covered by the plate 82 and extends in width between the beak of the plate 82 and the vertical wing 23a of the sword.
It is fixed at 90 to the horizontal wing 23b by its other end and extends cantilevered above a rectangular window 92 made in said wing 23b.
On the other hand; a slight boss 93 is carried by this plate 81 in the zone located between the plate 82 and the wing 23a so that the rectilinear path of this boss is spaced from that of the plate 82. This boss can come from the material of the plate itself, suitably angled.
When the head of the sword is about to emerge entirely from the crowd, the boss 93 of the plate 81 passes over a ramp 94 (Figures 11, 12 and 17) suitably adjusted in position and carried by a position support 95 adjustable.
When the boss 93 engages under the ramp 94, it undergoes a thrust which imparts a downward movement to the end of the elastic plate 81.
The contact of the two plates 81 and 82 having disappeared, the wire 28, to which a slight tension is given by an appropriate braking, is released and instantly ceases to be driven. The position of the support 95 of the ramp 94 being adjustable, pn can very exactly determine the length of the pick, and in particular obtain that the free ends 9¯6 (FIG. 11) form the opposite edge of the fabric 100. by using a device for no gauze.
Note that the upper plate 82, fixed at 92 on the sword 23 has its end 82b, opposite to that 82a, also in the form of an upturned beak, but in the opposite direction, to come into a hole 98 made in the wing 23b and thus avoid, in all circumstances, any snagging of the wire (figures 14, 16 and 18).
As indicated above, the wire 28 passes through a die 27, the lower end of which is presented below the level of the nose 82a of the plate 82 and between the vertical flange 23a of 1. ' sword.
The invention provides for this die to be carried by an arm 102 articulated at 103 and to have several very close die 27, 27a (two in the case of FIG. 18) through which the wires 28 and 28b pass respectively.
It will be understood that if, under the effect of a linkage system 104, a die is lifted, the corresponding weft thread is beyond the reach of the mouthpiece 82a of the sword.
If, on the contrary, the die is lowered, its thread is again in a state to be hooked by the spout 82a.
In the case of FIG. 18, the die 27 is shown lowered and its wire 28 is picked up by the gripping elements. The die 27a is lifted and its thread 28b is on hold. Any suitable mechanism, acting on the rods 104, can instantly achieve, between
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
two passages and the weft-pulling member, the permutation of the threads 28 and 28b.
The sword guide passage is delimited by a plate 105 (figo 17) fixed to the end of the slide 22; this plate 105 supports a plate 106 ensuring the guiding of the sword along the return 23c of its wing 23b and a support 107 along which slides the guide shoe 71 of the sword.
On the support 107 is fixed, longitudinally adjustable by a screw 108. a rod 1.0 .2 serving as a support for the support ± to which is fixed, at an adjustable height, by means of elongated holes and bolts 1110 the push-button ramp 94.
CLAIMS.
1. - Shuttleless weaving machine comprising means for controlling the shed, means for inserting the weft and means for beating the pick and in which the insertion of the weft is obtained by a rigid drive member and rectilinear, characterized in that this driving member is provided with a device for gripping the weft thread consisting of two surfaces resting elastically on one another and forming a sort of V, the base of which constitutes their point support and the open part of which is oriented in the direction towards which the pick is to be driven, so that, when the wire is presented at the level of the opening of said V,
the displacement of the driving member engages it at the base of this V where it gets stuck and leads it into the crowd causing it to break on the side where it is still connected to the previous pick, said break being able to be promoted by a sharp fulcrum and means being provided to stop the contact of the two surfaces at the end of their travel, with a view to making them let go of the weft.
