Loom without shuttle In a loom without shuttle, there are means for: - inserting the pick; - pack the pick; - opening and closing the crowd as in any loom currently in use.
The present invention relates to a shuttle-less weaving loom comprising means for inserting the weft, beating the pick and controlling the shed, characterized in that the insertion of the weft is obtained by a weft-puller, rigid and rectilinear, with an angle-shaped section, the two wings, horizontal and vertical, joining forward in a tapered point, a gripping member of the weft being placed near said point and protected from the wing vertical, so that said weft-pulling member, after having entered the shed empty and having crossed it over its entire width, catches the weft thread and deposits it in the shed during its return movement,
the rear end of this weft-pulling member being secured to a slider sliding in a slide extending laterally in front of the loom, this slider being connected to a horizontal balance controlled by a connecting rod itself controlled by a crank placed just below the web of pulpit threads and wedged to the upper part of a vertical shaft which, located in the vertical median plane of the body of the loom, constitutes the main motor shaft and further comprises, on the one hand, a cam ensuring the reciprocating movement of the leaf by a single pusher secured in its middle, which constitutes a central control thereof, and, on the other hand, at its lower part,
a pinion link transmitting movement to a secondary shaft for controlling the harness.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the weaving loom forming the subject of the invention. FIGS. 1 and 2 are overall views, respectively in plan from above and from the side, in elevation.

Fig. 17 is a perspective view showing the guide means of the weft-pulling member and its connecting means to its propellant member; it also shows a ramp ensuring the release of the pick.
Fig. 18 is, in perspective, a view corresponding to that of FIG. 10, with the addition of an associated device for permutation of two different frames.
In fig. 1, 2 and 3, 2 designates the frame of the loom carrying, along its rear edge, the beam roller 3 and, along its front edge, the fabric winding roller 4. The frame 2 laterally carries an electric motor 5 which, by a belt 6, drives a pulley 7 wedged on a shaft 8 placed vertically in the plane of symmetry of the body of the trade. This shaft carried by and rotating in bearings 9 carries at its top, a crank 10 and, at its base, a bevel pinion 12. Lapoulie 7 is formed by a plate, in the upper face of which is formed a circular groove 13 deformed by a sinuosity 14 over a portion of its periphery.
The crank 10 is articulated at the end of a tubular connecting rod 15 ending, as shown in FIG. 1 and 6, by a yoke 16 making it possible to couple it, in an adjustable manner, to an arm 17 formed of braced tubes. This arm 17 is itself, by one of its ends, articulated to another arm of the same type 18, pivoting in bearings 19 with a vertical axis, carried by the frame 2 of the loom. At its other end, the arm 17 is articulated to a cursor 21 mounted in a slideway 22 carried by the frame 2, along its front edge and which will be discussed more fully below.
This slide extends over a length greater than twice the width of the fabric. It is, in fact, called upon to allow the movement of the slider 21 on which is mounted a weft-pulling member 23 and this, so that said weft-pulling member can be withdrawn entirely out of the shed and beyond. , in order to allow threshing.
The weft-pulling member 23 is therefore driven in a continuous back-and-forth movement via the rotary shaft 8, the crank 10, the connecting rod 15, the lever 17 and the slider 21 It rests not only on the cursor 21, but also, near the entrance to the crowd, in a short corridor 24. On the other side of the loom is arranged another corridor 25 located in the extension of the corridor 24, and in which the head 26 of the weft-pulling member 23 engages to be put in the correct position under one or more dies 27 distributing the weft 28 coming from a reserve 29 placed laterally on the frame of the loom. Between the two lanes 24 and 25, the weft-pulling member 23 is suspended along the comb 31 (fig. 2 and 5) by an projection 70 of the leaf 33 (fig. 5).
This comb 31 is carried by a fitting 32 (fig. 2 and 5) fixed to the top of the leaf 33. The latter, formed by braced tubes, is articulated at its base around an axis 34 carried by the frame. 2. Near its upper part, it comprises a cylindrical cross member 35, surrounded by a bearing 36 with which is articulated at 37 an arm 38 which, mounted to slide in a slideway 39 integral with the frame 2, carries, at its end rear, a roller 41 engaging in the groove 13 of the pulley plate 7.
This plate being suitably wedged on the main shaft 8, the leaf 33 remains im mobile, in the rear position, as long as the roller 41 rolls in the circular part of the groove 13, then is suddenly moved forward to beat the weft, when said roller moves in the sinuosity 14 of said groove; during the duration of this displacement, the weft-pulling member 23 continues to move outside the crowd.
Given the very small section of the title-frame organ 23 and of its head 26, it suffices to open the shed 42 very little (FIG. 5) to allow it to pass. This is why the loom shown is provided with a particularly simple device for controlling the heddles 43, in the case of simple weaves for plain fabrics.
These rails are carried by frames 44 integral with the frame 45 (Fig. 2 and 3) free to slide vertically in the notches 46 (Fig. 3 and 4) integral with the frame 2. Each of these frames 45 is provided at its base , in its middle part, of a rod 47 which, mounted freely in a vertical slide 48 integral with the frame 2, carries a roller 49. Under the effect of gravity and the traction that springs 51 exert on the frames 45 , these are, by their rollers 49, maintained directly applied to cams 52 wedged on a shaft 53, each being located in the plane of the heddle-carrying frame that it controls.
This shaft 53, placed along the median longi tudinal plane of the body of the loom, carries, at its rear end, a bevel gear 50 meshing with the pinion 12 carried by the main shaft 8. Being a taffeta weave, in the example shown in the drawing, the two cams 52 are wedged at 180 ° to each other on the shaft 53 and the two heald carrier frames are alternately lifted by said cams.
When the ratio of the sprockets 12-50 is not less than 1/2, which is the case when using a taffeta movement, the driving of the roller 4 receiving the fabric can be performed from the secondary shaft 53; the latter in fact carries an eccentric 54 (FIG. 2) which, by means of a crank pin 55 causes the pivoting of a shaft 56 carrying another crank pin 57, to which a rod 58 is articulated; the latter, driven by a reciprocating movement in bearings 59, is provided, at its top, with a pawl 61 in elastic contact with a toothed wheel 62.
This wheel is carried by a shaft 63 provided with an adjusting handwheel 64 and a worm 65 with which engages a toothed wheel 66 driving the roll of fabric 4. This position provides an advance of the fabric two strokes by two. blows.
The head 26 of the weft-pulling member, which will be described more fully below, constitutes the front end of this title-weft member 23. This member (fig. 7 and 14) consists of a metal section forming, with the head 26 to which it is welded at 26a, a continuous, rigid and light assembly. This profile, obtained by shaping a thin metal sheet, has a section in the form of an angle or L, the two wings 23a and 23b are returned in the form of a gutter, at their ends 23c and 23d respectively. The two wings of the head 26 meet forward in a tapered point.
The vertical wing 23a is lined on the outside with a longitudinal pad 71 which, made of a light material, but resistant to friction, such as chipboard or plastic, constitutes the guide member of the pulling member. -trame 23, first inside the corridor 24 (fig. 1 and 17), then, then, along the comb 31, if necessary to lean against it.
At its rear end (fig. 1, 7 and 17), the member 23 is provided with an added boss 72 in which is drilled a hole with an axis perpendicular to the horizontal flange 23b of the weft-pulling member. ; this hole allows the passage of the rod 74 of a bolt securing said weft-pulling member 23 on the slider 21 animated, as indicated in the above, with a back-and-forth movement in the slide fixed 22.
The member 23 is therefore thrown into the crowd, like a billiard cue in the hands of a player; the cursor 21 corresponds to the hand which pushes the tail, while the lane 24 corresponds to the hand which guides it.
Figs. 8 to 16 and fig. 18 relate essentially to the composition and to the functioning of the elements constituting the head 26 of the member 23 and intended to grip the weft thread 28 at the desired moment to drive it, then subsequently to release it.
These elements consist of two plates 81 and 82 (fig. 15 and 16) placed one above the other and fixed head-to-tail on the horizontal flange 23b of the head of the member 23. The plate 82 makes contact with the plate 81 which it covers in part, so as to form therewith a sort of V whose base is their point of contact and the opening of which is turned towards the rear part of the organ 23.
For this, the upper plate 82 is slightly raised in the form of a beak 82a on the side of one of its ends which is free, this beak 82a being directed in the direction of retreat of the member 23.
On the other hand, the lower plate 81 exerts elastic pressure against the upper plate 82, so that it is possible, by lowering said plate 81, to eliminate this point of contact.
In the aforementioned contact zone there is a stud 83 carried by the upper plate and freely passing through the lower plate 81 through a hole 84 which the latter presents.
These elements are located in the shelter of the vertical wing 23a, this vertical wing descending gently towards its tapered point 85. It will be understood that any wire 28 presented below the level of the nose 82a of the plate 82 engages between it and the plate 81 during the backward movement of the member 23 and only during this movement.
On the other hand, due to the presence of the vertical wing 23a, no warp wire 42 can under any circumstances be hung.
When the weft thread 28 has started to engage between the two plates 81 and 82, it tends to get stuck there all the more strongly as it opposes a greater resistance to the advance. To increase this wedging effect, the plates 81 and 82 can be provided at their point of contact with ridges 86 (FIG. 15).
The role of the stud 83 is to limit the sinking of the wire 28 by giving it, each time, a precise position. This stud also facilitates subsequent release of the wire.
Fig. 9 shows how the weft thread 28 coming from the reserve 29 (fit. 1) and passing through the die 27 bringing it below the level of the spout 82a of the plate 82, between this spout 82a and the vertical wing 23a of the member, is engaged between the two plates 81 and 82 when the retraction of the member 23 begins.
Note that this thread is still part of the previous pick to which it still holds at a point B on the edge of the fabric.
It is easily understood that if the member 23 continues to move back (direction of the arrow, fig. 9), the wire must necessarily break between said point B and point A </ I> where it comes out between the two plates 81 and 82.
However, to avoid an abnormal force on the selvedge threads and an unclear breakage, the loom shown includes a cutting member on the path AB, so that the thread is applied to the cutting edge by the effect of its reversal as shown in the fia. 9, 10 and 18. As seen in fig. 16, the plate 82 may be provided with a cutting edge 87 on a bent and sharp part 88.
Fig. 14 shows in perspective the weft thread 28 being cut on the edge 87. It can also be seen that the free end of the weft thread 28a cut off at the edge of the fabric is over a certain length naturally turned inside out in the crowd. This feature makes it possible to obtain, on the edge of the fabric concerned, an excellent selvedge 91 with tucked-in ends. To ensure that this upturned end is held in position, the end of the weft-pulling member may include on its edge a few brush bristles 89 which, as they pass, push it well to the bottom of the crowd; this arrangement, which is optional, is shown only in FIG. 18.
It can therefore be seen that the simple recoil of the weft-pulling unit 23 has triggered a series of operations without the use of any kind of articulated members, cams, levers, etc.
The loom shown also comprises means so that, when the head 26 of the unit 23 has passed through the shed, driving the weft thread 28 over a suitable length, this weft thread is released between the plates 81 and 82 For this purpose, a pusher is mounted in a fixed manner on the loom so that the member 23, at the end of its travel, presents to it a projection which, bearing on said pous evening, forces the plates 81 and 82 to separate by moving away from one another, the pressure of these plates against each other being obtained by an elastic phenomenon.
The lower plate 81 is constituted by a leaf spring, the free end of which bears elastically with a certain force against the plate 82, from bottom to top, which avoids the need for any articulation.
On the other hand, its free end is not entirely covered by the plate 82 and extends in width between the beak of the plate 82 and the vertical flange 23a of the member 23.
It is fixed at 90 to the horizontal wing 23b by its other end and extends cantilevered above a rectangular window 92 made in said wing 23b.
On the other hand, a slight boss 93 is carried by this plate 81 in the zone situated between the plate 82 and the wing 23a so that the rectilinear path of this boss is spaced from that of the plate 82. This boss can come from the material of the plate itself, suitably bent.
When the head of organ 23 is about to emerge entirely from the crowd, the bos sage 93 of the plate 81 passes under a ramp 94 (Figs. 11, 12 and 17) suitably adjusted in position and carried by a 95 adjustable position support.
When the boss 93 engages under the ramp 94, it undergoes a thrust which imparts a downward movement to the end of the elastic plate 81.
The contact of the two plates 81 and 82 having disappeared, the wire 28, to which a slight tension is given by an appropriate braking, is released and instantly ceases to be entrained. The position of the support 95 of the ramp 94 being adjustable, it is possible to determine the length of the pick very exactly, and in particular to obtain that the free ends 96 (FIG. 11) form the opposite edge of the fabric 100, by using a pitch device. gauze.
Note that the upper plate 82, fixed at 97 on the member 23, has its end 82b opposite to that 82a, also in the form of an upturned beak, but in the opposite direction, to come into a hole 98 made in the wing 23b and thus avoid, in all circumstances, any catching of the wire (fig. 14, 16 and 18).
As indicated above, the wire 28 passes through a die 27 whose lower end is presented below the level of the spout 82a of the plate 82, and in the space between the vertical wing 23a and the wing horizontal 23b of the member 23.
This die is carried by an arm 102 articulated at 103 and several dies 27, 27a can be placed side by side (two in the case of FIG. 18, through which threads 28 and 28b respectively pass).
It will be understood that if, under the effect of a linkage system 104, a die is lifted, the corresponding weft thread is out of reach of the spout 82a of the member 23.
If, on the contrary, the die is lowered, its thread is again in a state to be hooked by the spout 82a. In the case of fig. 18, the die 27 is shown lowered and its wire 28 is picked up by the gripping elements, the die 27a is lifted and its wire 28b is on hold. Any suitable mechanism, acting on the rods 104, can instantly effect, between two passages of the weft-pulling member, the permutation of the threads 28 and 28b.
The guide passage 24 of the member 23 is delimited by a plate 105 (FIG. 17) fixed to the end of the slide 22; this plate 105 supports a plate 106 ensuring the guiding of the member 23 along the return 23c of its wing 23b and a support 107 along which slides the guide shoe 71 of the member 23.
On the support 107 is fixed, longitudinally adjustable by a screw 108, a rod 109 serving as a support for the support 95 to which is fixed, at an adjustable height, by means of elongated holes and bolts 110, the push-bar 94.
The shuttleless loom shown is extremely simple and trouble-free to operate and which requires only a narrow shed opening allowing the warp threads to work in excellent conditions.
