<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The invention is described more particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of one form of construction of the device, with the cover open.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan view.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of another form of construction.
Pin 4 is a vertical section of another form of construction.
Fig. 5 is a schematic vertical section of another form of construction.
Fig. 6 is a corresponding end view,
Fig. 7 is a detail view of another form of construction.
A strip 1 of paper or similar flexible material, rolled up on itself as shown in 2, is intended to be received in a partially circular cavity of a box formed by a folded metal strip 3 of which an extension 4 forms a surface to which the paper web or the like 1 can be drawn, this paper web having images 5 arranged on it in spaced positions, and having perforations 6 by means of which it can be moved opposite a window opening 7 made in a cover plate 8 by means of advancement pins 9 mounted on the ends of two spring arms 10 made of metal wire, wound around a rod 11 and fixed by the end opposite to the base 12 of the device by a screw 13.
It is obvious that instead of the wire 10 one can use a single leaf spring fixed by one end to the base 12 and carrying at its other end the pins 9; the elastic support for the pins 9 is provided with an open console 50 in which can be placed a crank arm 51 formed advantageously of a strong mor-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
wire ring engaged in perforations of the side walls 14 and 15 of the device and provided with a crank 16,
It can be seen that by these means, if the crank 16 is rotated clockwise, the crank arm 13 engages the open socket 50 and draws down the pins 9 completely out of engagement with the strip of images made of paper or the like, against the action of the spring 10, up to a position, shown in broken lines 4 in Fig.l,
in which the subsequent rotation of the hand crank allows the pins 9 to re-engage with the paper web in a new position spaced rearwardly and adjusted so that a pair of perforations fits in one position immediately ready to receive pins 9.
Following the rotation of the crank brings its arm out of reach of the sleeve 50 so that the energy stored in the spring 10 then serves to quickly move the spring arms 10 from the position shown in dotted lines towards the position in solid lines, their movement then being stopped by a rubber buffer or the like 60.
The repeated movement, from the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 1 to the position shown in solid lines, is preferably somewhat slowed down towards the end of this movement by the fact that the upper part 4 of the box is placed. into an arcuate curve which intersects the path of the underside of the elastic support for the pins 9 and thus frictionally engages it.
Leaves of springs such as 17 and 18 are provided on the box and intended to give a frictional resistance to the accidental return of the paper strip and also to the additional accidental advance of the paper strip, due to its inertia, this prevents accidental tearing of the paper strip at the location of the perforations 6.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It will be noted that there is no need to wind the strip of paper on a reel. It can be wound on itself and slipped elastically into the cavity formed by the cylindrical part 3 of the body, as is 'represented.
In the construction of Fig. 4, the pins 20 engaging the paper web are hinged at 21 to support rods 22 pivoting at 23 on the box and attracted to the right by means of tension springs 24, a A rubber tongue or similar resilient tongue 25 being provided between a point of the pins 20 and the end of the rods 22 to allow articulation of the pins and provide flexible engagement with the paper web. The rods 22 are actuated from a crank 26 by means of a cam 27 engaging a roller 28 on the rods 22, so that energy is stored in the spring 24 until the cam releases the roller 28.
In this construction, the strip is prevented from sliding forward or backward by means of a spring roller 61, pivoting at 29 and having a roller 30 on an arm 31 intended to receive the action of the cam. 27, and elastically attracted into contact with or disengaged from the paper web 1.
In the construction modified according to Fig. 3, the pins 32 engaging with the sheet of paper 1 are carried on one end of a lever 33 connected as by button and button at 34 to a rod 35 fixed to the rod. device boot; an arm of a crank 36 attached to the hand crank engages an open stop 37 on this arm, in a manner analogous to what is achieved for the stop 50 described above, energy being stored during part of the rotation of this crank in springs 38, 39.
A spiral cam 40 acting by gravity, made of rubber or a similar material, articulated on the box, allows
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
band 1 to move in front of it but prevent the latter from receding accidentally.
In the construction of Figs. 5 and 6, the pins 41 are mounted on a plate 42 bent at one end to form sockets 43 constituting a button and buttonhole connection with a rod of the crank 44, which engages an open stopper 45 of plate 42, this plate being retained by a torsion spring 46. In addition, plate 42 has notches 47 on each side, so that in one position it is stopped by stops 48 of the box but is released by the hand crank, and is lifted out of reach of these stops to allow the energy stored in the springs 46 to bring it from the position shown in Fig. 5 to a position against a buffer 49.
In the construction shown in Fig. 7, one end of the coil spring 52 is fixed to the drive shaft 53 and the other end to the rod 54 so that when rotating the shaft 53 in the direction clockwise, the rod 54 is drawn downwards, which forces the end 9 to be withdrawn from the perforation of the strip and disengage from the stop 55. The rod 54 then moves in a circle to engage the next perforation of strip 1 and drive the latter rapidly to complete one cycle of operation.
To ensure that the end 9 of the split rod 54 engages correctly in the next perforation of the film
1, after it has moved into the inactive part of the revolution, an extension 56 provided with a roller 57 can be provided so that at the point where the end 9 of the rod 54 must be s' to engage in the perforation of the strip 1, the roller meets the inclined face 58 of the fixed projection 59 to force the rod 54 to move upwards in order to come into engagement with the strip, while the radial face 60 of the projection 59 ensures that the former
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
end 9 of the rod 54- remains in engagement with the strip 1 until the stop 55 is reached.
Summary.
In summary, the invention relates to:
1. A stroboscopic apparatus in which an image strip is jerked, in front of a window opening, by means of one or more advancing pins moving in a closed path during a part of which the one or more pins are positively actuated by means of a hand crank and during another part of the travel by a spring, the operating energy being stored in the spring during the period of positive control.
