En général, un ressort 10 et une biellette 14 seront prévus sur chaque côté du siége; cependant l'emploi de tels organes sur un seul côté du siège est compris dans le cadre de l'invention Il doit âtre entendu aussi qu'on pourra,sans s'écarter de celle- ci varier la forme 'de la ferrure 2, du support Si et du montant 8, des deux derniers pouvant d'ailleurs être formés d'une même pièce;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPORT PATENT Improvements to armchairs for theaters
The present invention relates to armchairs with tilting seat for theaters or meeting rooms and relates to an armchair of this type from which the construction is started. extremely simple, easy to assemble and smooth and quiet operation.
According to this invention, the seat is requested to straighten up around its pivots under the action of a torsion spring, one end of which is fixed to one of the chair's mounts and the other end of which is connected to the chair. rear seat by a connecting rod. The arrangement of these organs is such that when the seat is lowered and loaded with the weight of the spectator, it is retained by the rod and the spring then working partly by longitudinal traction, so that the stop of the rotation of the seat in the direction of @ lowering is obtained without any impact against a fixed stopper and therefore without any noise.

To facilitate assembly and disassembly, the articula-% ion of the brandie 13 of the spring 10 is constituted by. a head 16 integral with this branch and provided with a circular groove cooperating with the narrow part alune buttonhole 17 formed in the rod 14, the wide part of this buttonhole .ce being provided to give free passage to the head 10.

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
13 wraps around this axis.
This rotation stops when the branch 13 no longer forms a fairly small angle with the axis of the rod, that is to say when there is equilibrium between the two components parallel to this axis = 11 , component of the effort P produced at 13 by the weight of the seat and of the spectator seated on the front part of the seat, and R1, component of the force produced at 16 by the spring tension. It will be understood that this position of equilibrium is reached in an elastic manner, without any shock or noise; it is moreover practically stable because the directions of the branch 13 and of the connecting rod 14 then form a very acute angle, and significant variations in the weight acting on the seat no longer significantly modify in the vicinity of this position. , distance 9.15.
When the spectator stands up, the tension of the spring 10 will immediately return the rod 1 = downwards, and consequently the front of the seat upwards, until the components take the rest position (fig.l) , or. there is still other balance the efforts in play; the dimensions are preferably chosen so that the seat does not strike the backrest, when rising, especially in the case of non-upholstered armchairs, in order to avoid any annoying noise.
In general, a spring 10 and a link 14 will be provided on each side of the seat; however, the use of such members on only one side of the seat is included within the scope of the invention. It should also be understood that it is possible, without departing from this, to vary the shape of the fitting 2, of the support Si and the upright 8, the last two can also be formed from the same part;
in particular, adjustment means can be provided making it possible to modify the height at the inclination of the seat, taking into account the presence or absence of padding, the inclination of the ground, etc. :. ; for example we prevoa on each upright series of holes such as 18 allowing to fix
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It is also possible to provide braking in the seat lift, using a damping spring, cam or any other suitable means.
Apart from the simplicity of construction and the absence of any operating noise, it should be noted that the disassembly and reassembly of the seat are extremely simple; it suffices in fact to release the articulation members 16 from the buttonholes 17 so that the seat can be instantly withdrawn, the pins of which 3 are then released freely from the notches 5 from bottom to top.
The great simplicity ae construction and the advantages of the chair according to the invention result from the fact that the spring 10 fulfills several functions at the same time: it serves to raise the si.e, it serves as a stop to limit its downward and forward rotation. the top, and it also serves to retain the journals 3 engaged in the notches 5, so that the seat does not risk being inadvertently withdrawn from its supports.
